Post-Covid, its a glorified coupon book, it barely tries to give a crap about travel, and even if you use enough benefits to "beat" the fee, its not worth my time or effort.

Biggest problem, higher annual fees than every competitor with questionable credits to offset them. Second biggest, creators that tell the audience it's easy to use your monthly, quarterly, semi- annual, and annual benefits to justify the high fee
AMEX indeed has higher spending requirements to get the sign up bonus. But they also give you more time to reach that requirement. Many issuers only give you 3 months to hit the target.
Not always. Wells Fargo and citi double cash are both 6 months off the top of my head. Doesn’t change the fact that inherently they’re much more expensive (spend to bonus ratio).
With respect to the "once per lifetime thing"; It's likely that AMEX is internally storing your info (SSN, BD, ext.) and have a digital profile on you linked to every card you've ever had with them. So it probably has nothing to do with the lifecycle of the credit reports.
What I love about amex is that they generally soft pull after you get your first card, AND they don't seem to care about how many new cards you've gotten recently. So they are a great (if not only) ecosystem to exhaust if you want to move very aggressively.

Hi John! I love your videos! I am finally learning about points for travel instead of just using cash back. How do you actually go about finding these flights? I personally use capital one and am having so much trouble finding any flights even just as an example
The Platinum doesn’t make sense to 75% of the people who have it. Good point on the charge cards vs the credit cards. My FICO skyrocketed after getting the AMEX Hilton cards. I do disagree about spending for points. We all spend money, so make it count. AMEX Platinum 1X vs 3X to 4X on other cards is throwing money away.

Your math is wrong with regards to the spend requirements for bonus. Capital One $4000 in 3 mo equates to $1333/mo whereas Amex $8000 in 6mo equates $1333/mo. Also Amex points are more valuable.
I mean it is a flex though. Just because you don’t think it that way doesn’t mean everyone agrees with you. Most amex cards are charge cards not credit card like chase, which means you have to pay it off all your balance month whereas other credit companies lets you go with it. There’s many more reasons why amex is a flex card
@beastwithredpill Hi! In DR, there are several payment processors that handle payment on behalf of the credit card companies, however 3 of them own by far the biggest slice of the pie. Out of those 3 only one (Azul) accepts AMEX (but many of the small ones do accept it as well). So, you are right, in the more affluent and touristic areas (like Punta Cana) you’ll probably won’t have an issue when paying with your AMEX. However you may be pleasantly surprised to find that even in a restaurant in a small remote town your AMEX has a high probability of being accepted.
Ya not at all. I used to have Amex when I was a broke student with no regular income and now get rejected when I’m making way more money and have more than 800 credit scores haha
5/24 should be updated to 3/12 and be based more if/how much balance u carrying. it’s not crazy or risky to get 6 in 24 mos certainly if u carry little to no balance on cards.

@@jayk1701 Yea I found out now, I tried that at first but I was trying to book too close to the date of my trip so nothing was available. Amex is always available up until just weeks before the trip. Hey, the amex card is having a 90k points when spending 6k in the first 6 months, but i don’t spend that much on groceries, but i do spend around that much elsewhere, can i use it to buy all my other things ? Or what is the 1% eligible purchases
Would buying gift cards (let’s say for Walmart or Sam’s club) from a Neighborhood Walmart, still give me 4X points on the AmEx Gold? Those are part of my daily spending habits but I know that buying directly from Walmart or Sam’s foes not give points.
Question, you mentioned that there is a one life time offer for American Express platinum or gold. Two years ago I applied for the American Express platinum and got my welcome bonus for that card. This year I applied for the American Express gold card for the 90k point welcomed offer and I was approved and accepted for this bonus. A little confused why your saying they only offer one lifetime bonus offer when I was accepted for both. I guess this is not the norm for everyone?
Here is the blurb from Amex, they give you a chance to see if you qualify for the 2ed sign up bonus before you accept to sign up for the card. “If you are not eligible for a welcome offer, we will notify you prior to processing your application so you have the option to withdraw your application.”
AMEX protects their customers so any funny business they GO AFTER the merchant and don’t play so YEAH I’m AMEX all day since I’ve had issues with other cards
I apply for AE they said I was approve , but then said We did not receive your acceptance of the card Your application was withdrawn What does this mean I did not receive and other letters or paper work from them Thanks

You can transfer your capital one points to Aeroplan and book ANA through there. That’s how I booked my Japan trip. Hope that helps.
@@jayk1701 Yea I found out now, I tried that at first but I was trying to book too close to the date of my trip so nothing was available. Amex is always available up until just weeks before the trip. But with Venture X I would need to plan like months in advance, which is okay. I'll probably cancel the AMEX when my renew date comes up.
is staying below 30% credit utilization more important than getting to the minium spend threshold to get the points from a sign on bonus?
Amex has the best sign up bonuses right now
No
Thanks!
I've literally never been anywhere where Amex wasn't accepted.
Costco...
Thinking about getting the platinum only because of the concert pre sales
He, why do I have to listen to you for over 17 minutes to know the ...6 problems with Amex...?
you dont ....just click the cross right top 🤣
They also throw words like “you may qualify for a sign up bonus”.
AMEX protects their customers so any funny business they GO AFTER the merchant and don’t play so YEAH I’m AMEX all day since I’ve had issues with other cards
I apply for AE they said I was approve , but then said
We did not receive your acceptance of the card
Your application was withdrawn
What does this mean I did not receive and other letters or paper work from them
Thanks
Amex Green>Gold>Platinum the way to get max points
So lifetime bonus what about retention bonuses? Don’t they give you a bonus to stay(albeit small but still)
QUESTION: where do I buy a “gift of college gift card”?
Im in popup jail for the aspire which is really annoying 😂I put 5-10k of spend on my gold and platinum every month and they are they only Amex cards I have so I have 0 idea why I am ineligible for the bonus
Wow. PUJ for credit card when u only have 2 charge. I haven’t bothered applying for a 3rd cc. Kinda over Amex already after not even a year.
I was in pop jail when applying for the Schwab AmexPlat - and accidentally clicked to continue anyway. I didn’t want it without the bonus, so I cancelled the card. But I still had it, for an hour. Since I didn’t get the bonus though, could I still possibly get it in the future?
Not unless Amex changes rules in future. No bonus for u.
Amex waives the fees for active duty military…. Definitely not a status of making a lot of money by having a card.
4k for 3 month = 8k for 6 month. 1,33k per month
please adjust your Mic boost / bass setting / by- pass swicth.... your voice pop's , too much bass and not natural sounding . please. great info channel.
amex green? can you drop a vid on that pls?
So I already have a quicksilver capital one that I’ve had since last may, should I switch to Amex? Or stick with capital one and get a Savor one and also the venture x? Also I like the Robinhood gold for the cash back 3% but I do see a lot of people saying they’ll slash that at some point within the year
I hate to love AMEX...and love to hate AMEX.
Need chapters!
Can you make a video about how to get a US Amex if you are not a US citizen, Becouse European Amex benefits suck.
And then you will be flagged for a final review and they will freeze your account’s unannounced 😮
Wake up, people who can, get the premium cards for status, not to get stuff. Poor people want free stuff
I got 175k points offer😅!
When did you apply?
@ChantaviaBurton I did not. But I saw this this offer twice on thursday or Friday in incognito mode.
I put about 100-120k spend on my Amex card every year and it provides me with tons of benefits! I fly buisness class all the time with the points. Amex Plat and Gold are keepers!
This is immature but first
You are correct. You’re a loser.
At least you acknowledge it
Yeah my man's got his boxers in a bunch for sure. 😂😂😂😅😅😅 Think he's just having a rough day he'll come around by Monday and be singing the Platinum tunes again
Cringe
I think most people are just waiting to inherit their dead parents money/property.
Fax. Many have parents with assets. I don’t. But oh well. Sux tho when they beat chest and boast how they come from “nothing”.
If you get an Amex platinum for clout and don’t know how to use the statement credits and bonus points you’re just being irresponsible. That’s not a downside to the card, in my opinion, it’s just the consumer not doing their research. That’s just my own opinion though, I do my research for every card I have gotten.
I use my gold for every work dinner and venmo request people😂
So is amex target affluent households or cheap households? I cant tell by this comment.
Visa master just more useful
Ouuuuuu these young millennials gonna be mad at you they throw there Amex platty everywhere ranking up in debt flexing for Social media 😅😅
