Liam, you're very talented. I believe since Alec Steele has moved to America it's time to have a competition. The U.K v.s America. Let's see who can make the best battle Axe. Then let the Black bear forge be the judge.
I was really impressed, when I saw how you smacked the living sh** out of that steel with your hand hammer on forged in fire. A honour to subscribe your channel!
@@OldNorsebrewery wtf every country exept america and some african countries use the metric system on daily basis. Yours is even based on the metric system so you do too
Whether it ended up as you envisioned or not, that's an elegant shape, Liam. And elegant is not a word I'd normally use for a sledge hammer -- so good job. Clyde
Gotta love it when blacksmithing looks easier than mathing. Great looking hammer head despite coming up 2/10 oz short. Just means you need to drive in a 2/10 oz step wedge. 😉
🤣 I was wondering why you were not using those tongs first or second time putting in the forge . Looked to be way better for the big hammer . I know absolutely nothing about forging a hammer though so I figured there was a method to the madness.
Something I have never seen on a smithing channel, is a quick blower set up that can be bumped or pumped to get rid of scale from the anvil or power hammer die. Would be handy, no?
If it were me... I would have likely just cut that scrap in half and then made two of them; because I don't like waste, I always end up letting the material help decide what size things end up being.. I'm always open to change when creating something.
Love the shape of this new 4#15.8oz steel mallet. So close to 5#. "The maths are strong with this one, Me thinks". Don't you just hate it when you cut the wrong side of the line with your bandsaw?
I worked for a large forging company, had upseters)and power hammers ,I maybe wrong looks like power hammer, hand hammer and hydraulic Pierced hammer head.
Hi Liam, fantastic work, i really admire your ability to move steel. Keep up the good work. I also have a question, any chance that I get you to make this idea of forestry tool i have. It's what we here in Europe call a "Forest Hammer" similar to a American splitting maul, they are normally 3 kilograms and 80 cm handel. Would be nice to see if it's possibly to make a smaller one that's like 1,2 kg with a long straigth handel 60-70 cm which you can carry on a belt. We mainly use them for pounds wedges. Best Regards from Denmark.
I have a 3 lb forging hammer that was given to me with a 1/4" chip missing from edge face of the hammer. What would cause a hammer face to chip off like that ?
Bad heat treatment? I have a flame hardened hammer of mine that has a huge crack the whole way up the face, happened when I was striking tools, I think the heat treatment I did had too much of a steep differential between the face and the bulk of the hammer immediately behind the face.
Fantastic video Liam, great looking hammer! Looks like you're comfortable in the new shop. One quick question, is the grinder that you used on the hammer a shop built "no weld" grinder?
Let me just say that I love the design of the hammer and I just found your Chanel and immediately subbed after watching. I do have a question though. I am wondering why 5lb’s? I’ve been told by my mentor that you really don’t need a hammer more than 3 lbs unless it’s for drawing out or striking. And you don’t need to draw out by hand nor have a striker since you have a press and power hammer.
@@nikola12nis no I know it's healthy I mean it's not Tennessee considering Liam's work environment extremely hot sharp poisonous metallic objects bigger veins bigger targets and you can in the videos he has an injury on his hand imagine a veins that big being sliced open

Love how Jacob always tries to make you look as professional as possible and never shows any mistakes you make
I hate that.. It's always easier to learn from mistakes.. and you should always highlight them if you have any interest in teaching people.

No contest. Liam, a production blacksmith vs. Alec, a entertainer vaguely doing metal work.

Love to see the forging process . . . love the new shop.
That's a great shape for for a hammer. The look is real old school. Great video.
The shape of that hammer is just perfect . Well done. Hope to see it handled soon.
Jesus Christ the first 2 mins should just be an advert for the metric system.
Ha I thought that too

Probably skyforge steel

Maybe there will be 0.2oz of wood and wedge inside the eye once it is hung.
love you Liam great video
Yes please! I would love to own a hammer exactly like that one.
Don't forget... It's over 5lbs with the handle..

Please more forging.
I wanna see all that new equipment you got! Awesome hammer, I want a 2.5 -3lb like it with a burned hickory handle, kthxbai:-D

What are you doing with your Eagle Scout medal?
Try the app Hadco just put the steel in and the size and it tells you the weight. Awesome. Different steel weigh different
Iron Eagle Forge it actually was
You gotta have an intense hand grip from that constant hammering.
Dude hammered so much he shrunk his head bro. Don’t mess with Liam. 😂
What steel did you use, is it 4140? I don't know that much about the harder steels. nice hammer
Bruh that auto hammer hitting HARD.

Logan Biren he could have different uses but I Like a heavy hammer around 4-5lbs for punching thick stock and drifting hammers or axes.

The reason you did not hit your mark is you did not take into account the thickness of the marker line when measuring.

Is power hammer concidered "hand forged" over there ?
I was thinking the same thing.....
I'm too.
I would say so, as there's still hands guiding the machinery. Power/Trip/Drop hammers have all been used for centuries.
It’s not the same “hand forged “ that I’ve learned 🙄
be 5 lbs by the time you get the handle on
