Liam, it’s been a while since we’ve gotten to watch you work like this, but this is my favorite part of this channel! You are an amazing craftsman and I love watching you work.
Ha, I even heard in a documentary on Netflix that a flail has in fact never been used in combat ever. Impractical weapon. A myth apparently? I'll do some more research.
Ah ok, found this in the wikipedia page: Despite being very common in fictional works such as cartoons, films and role-playing games as a "quintessential medieval weapon", historical information about this type of flail is somewhat scarce. A few doubt they existed at all due to the number of pieces sitting in museums that turned out to be forgeries, as well as the unrealistic way they are depicted in art. So yeah, the one handed flail was likely a fictional weapon, but two handed long poles with a chainlink and another heavy short part were indeed deployed in some battles, although not very commonly. Cool
Greg Hotbread they existed but primarily as show pieces from what I understand. Not at all practical for use do to the fact potential injury is much higher than that of a mace because it has chain that could come back and assault the user. But if they were to be used like in a duel having a very short chain like the 2 connecters and a link is a lot more practical. However I’d much rather have a halberd and a short sword due to practicality.
I'd like to see more hand forging, especially on that drawknife you once made (or were going to make as far as I know)! That's the most prestigious part of your channel to me
You have a interesting channel lots of info thank you for sharing. I just learned about your channel. Have you heard of island forge? Hope to catch another video 10 months maybe your next one? Look forward to hear from you by for now Ken.
Hey, some years back I bought a $500 Damascus Chef Knife from Autine by John Neeman. I contacted them when the tip snapped off and they told me that their knives aren't hardened to prevent that from happening. Since having the blade reprofiled, I have also gotten nicks in the edge with no knowledge of hitting anything. If I had one of your knives, would the tip snap off and the edge easily nick? I thought knives were supposed to be hardened to prevent this. But I also thought Autine was reputable.
You should have a longer handle on that and shorten the chain one or two links for you know safety reasons like to avoid a spiked metal ball bouncing off what was hit and coming back at you.
Pay attention everyone...I said pay attention! This here is as close as us in the mortal realm can ever get to communing with a God! This is the dude that first tought the cave men all those years ago. He was out scouring the galaxy for exquisite material and in his quest he stumbled upon this planet with such unknowing creatures and he took it upon himself to bless our race with the gift of helping ourselves and setting us on the path to do great things. He figured he would stick around for a bit and has been here forging ever since. Its nothing to him though, time that is, because he is immortal.
All the makers who used to put up regular videos but are part of the makers MOB now only ever post a vid every few weeks at most now to advertise the makers MOB. You, Jessie, Neil, Jimmy all the same... we followed you from the start and ya dropped us like a smelly fart
He means hand forged, as in, he is forging with his hands. Power hammer goes up and down, that's it, he is controlling the forging. Drill press, angle grinder, belt sander has nothing to do with forging.
@@glenndarilek520 yes, handmade garments do in fact use sewing machines, and handmade woodworking projects use power hand tools. They are hand made as opposed to automated, that doesnt mean you have to play amish to make something handmade.
Time to scrap the Maker's Mob thing, I'd gladly buy more T-shirts than join a subscription for makers. We make shit ourselves, we don't need instructions, just ideas. Beautiful forging, hope all is well.
I think a lot of viewers could get useful information from the makers mob setup. A detailed, step by step instructional series on axe making by one of the leading hand crafted axe makers in the world is something that ANYONE who is getting into axe making can appreciate. I just wish makers mob had more content creators in different crafts. Hell, even just another blacksmith cc would be great. Currently it's best for woodworkers unfortunately.
Please make a Connecticut pattern axe head I think it'd be cool for you to make all the patterns of Axe Heads around the world but Connecticut please make a Connecticut pattern axe head
It’s been a while, glad to see you back!!
Liam, it’s been a while since we’ve gotten to watch you work like this, but this is my favorite part of this channel! You are an amazing craftsman and I love watching you work.
Looks great Liam! Although historically the chain was a lot shorter due to the fact in combat the long chain could come back and hit you

That thing is FREAK'N KOOL!
Love that you put a spike on the handle end, increases the chances of hurting yourself.
You succeeded...So glad to see you didn't flail!!!
Good to see a video from you guys. Was nice to see Chad again. He was always good for comic relief...

Good to see you back how's the knife making set up going
Amazing craftsmanship as always liam!

More videos!!!!
Awesome work
I was wondering if you thought heating the ball to expand it then driving the spikes in might make for a stronger fit.
Nice. I guess I need to go to the makers channel to watch you working. Is Chad there with you? You two are always fun to watch.
Better to flail while daring greatly!!!
Better to flail than to have never tried!!!
Cool build!

It's been 7 months, where you at Liam?!
Been missing you uploading more frequently on youtube Liam hope all is well

Dude swung so many sledge hammers he outgrew his head!
Where’s Liam gone? No videos for ages! 😓

Kind of agree with you there
you tubes rules changes they cant make any money
I'm Ok with paying the Mob (have had membership since the start) but feel a little conflicted when its on RUclips for free.
Hi, the ball part is very nice, but you'll have to improve the chain links...! LOL
Thanks for sharing !
Was hoping that we'd get to see you hit something with it. Ah well......good video, anyway. Thanks for sharing it.
oh a hand forged flail... cool...

Hope you are back on youtube. miss your work
Liam can we have a update on your nicks boots?
very cool!
Missed you! This is my asmr
Welcome back
Whadya mean, hand forged? Power hammer, drill press, angle grinder, belt sander

OK, so something that is forged using a machine is hand forged.
@@glenndarilek520 something that is controlled by hand rather than automated, is hand forged.
mjoelhicks
ok. Then one can use a sewing machine to sew a hand-sewn shirt, use a table saw to hand saw a board, etc.

Better to flail with honor than succeed by fraud!!!
