I'm so lazy that I had to summon up the motivation over the course of a week just to watch this video

Oh come on!
Bro I just passed my NCLEX so I’m officially a Registered Nurse and all I gotta say is you were a huge part of why I passed nursing school. Let me explain... I remember coming home one night after bombing an exam the week before my final. I was stressing out because I was going into my final with a failing grade. Any how, that night I binge watched every one of your study tips videos and I swear they helped me pass my final and every test thereafter. Now here I am a Nurse ready to start my new position at the hospital tomorrow! Gonna definitely apply this videos tips to my new career. Thank you my brotha! You are much appreciated! 😁🤙🏽

Kingsley Anand thanks! 🙏
Josh Mendoza congratulations man I feel more motivated after hearing you story man 💪

Josh Mendoza thanks bro 🙏
I was actually struggling with this for a long time and here is my solution to the problem: I have a list of things I have or want to do daily (often), weekly, monthly or infrequently. And every evening I plan 3 - 6 of these activities for the next day. The planning takes 2 minutes, I do it on my phone before sleep. Also, I have rated each activity as Cognitively, Physically or Socially exhausting and I try not to have more than 2 of the same type for the next day. This system works for me well. I use it to plan my free time (or rather not-job time).
Recently I also added routines. E.g. whenever I am leaving my computer, I bring the place to its original state (basically clean the place), or morning/evening routine. These help me build some automatisms in my life and sort of works like your ifs - if I do this, then I do that, then I do that, than the routine is done...
Thank you. It's not that I wasn't disciplined, but more that I wasn't brought up with healthy routines. Now that I'm 23, I have a difficult time knowing what to do when I wake up at 5am. I don't have the fundamental habits to get momentum going. Thank you, again. I needed this.
So what do you do when ur up at 5am? Even when I manage to get up early I get bored and go back to sleep xD
@@xXTiggaBoBXx I try make chores for myself, starting from something real easy like making my bed.
@@Chewychewychoochoo yeah u r right doing simple chores like this actually helps
This is kind of embarrassing of me but I have very unhealthy habits and things I'm not willing to do because of laziness and I'm 14. I was brought up in a less then happy household and never learned basic things. So, now, who I'm living with is shaming me for not showering regurally and forgetting to brush my teeth, etc. Simple things like that, eating habits, other hygiene stuff, etc. It is so embarrasing but I'm working on it and it's hard because I wasn't brought up (even though I'm still a kid) to do these things. I just felt like sharing this with someone else that has or had similar issues.
Alina Titov I hear you. I’m quite older now but I had to go through a few phases of newfound motivation. For me it was unfortunately things like loss of a loved one (times two) and subsequent phases wearing black everyday for years. And that created a sort of a new / old goth mystique that, along with falling in love and having a good job @ a French restaurant, I was motivated towards healthy self-care. I wish you all the best, early bad starts sux, I know. Take good care of yourself.
I stopped smoking 4 days ago, and whenever I reached out for my pocket to grab a cigarette I have to do 5 pushups.. had to do atleast 70 the first day 😁
Its been more than 2 months, still going strong. Not reaching out anymore but still doing 60 push-ups a day
Great!
Gonna adopt this for biting my nails
How are you doing now a year later
@@otaku_god3803 it has been 2 years, and I still haven't smoked since and never will!
@@daanverkuylen1016 why?
I've been waking up at 4:30 consistently for the past month and doing 100 push ups everyday, I'm getting more out of life with this simple habit (not easy, just simple.)
Mars that's brilliant. Waking up early gives you a head start and time in the morning, whereas early exercise gives a dopamine boost to get you in the right mindset to have the best day
I've also noticed that it gives me an extra 2 hours everyday, so I try to use that doing stuff productive :D
why r you bragging?
You're going to give yourself a seriously kyphotic posture without training the posterior chain as well.
@@oscar_jgr why don't YOU start something and be able to brag yourself?
The truth is, building habits at the beginning is always challenging, but once you have it then it's easy. So, in order to building habits I find it very helpful when I know WHY I actually want to do it.
Winny out...for now 😉
Its kinda the definition of a "habit"??
4:41 that's easy, I'd fall asleep on the ground lol
Exactly
Same
Put some spikes on the ground to prevent that xD
Funny thing is that I had already tried something like that myself and I did end up sleeping on the ground hahahaha
I'd suggest resolving to do only one push-up every time, say, for a week. Perhaps up the number of triggers, not push-ups per se. It'll feel ridiculous, but it's super easy to do BEFORE you fall asleep on the ground. And when you eventually increase the number, don't go straight to 50, as that'll bring you back to square one, in terms of mental resistance. Just do tiny gradual increases.
I realized that the "all-or-nothing" mentality was a driving factor in my procrastination problem when I would look back at a wasted day *coughweekcough* and realize that, if I had spent only a small ridiculous amount of time per day I would STILL have been in a better position moving forward. Yet my perfectionism/pride was stopping me from doing these "too small" and "meaningless" efforts that would have opened the door for further improvement down the line, because I had this stupid notion that I HAD to do productive work in 4 hour blocks at a time, and without any gradual build-up. Just a personal observation.
I can’t believe I went so long without knowing this RUclipsr. Keep up the amazing content!

You are not going to like what I'm about to say, but your judgement is too biased if you click the like button even before watching the video fully and evaluating it properly.
Kristina M. Yeah maybe but usually his videos are good 😁😁
Kristina M. If you think clicking the like button before watching the video and evaluating it is just biased, that button will be just for the effort he does and the motivation and support he deserves. I think it is not a matter of whether the video is good or not. If the video needs evaluation or clearing some points, it has to be here in the comments section.
Actually that quote is Will Durant’s words in a discussion of Aristotle.
“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation: we not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather have these because we have acted rightly; these virtues are formed in man by doing his actions; we are we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”
- Will Durant, The Story of Philosophy (1926)

Thanks so much for this video Thomas!
I was too lazy to watch the whole video
As someone who codes for a living and has both those problems (reminders and laziness) holy crap I love this video. I also love how you say its about putting yourself into the position to make doing the habit easier. Also your notes on active learning perf. I also think you'd make an amazing User Experience Designer. Your insight into human behaviors, creative solutions, understand logic concepts and being able to communicate so clearly would make you ace that role. Just a thought since I work in the agency world and wished we had more people like you haha.
I love the style and delivery within your videos, Thomas. You always share such fantastic, simple and very practical advice. Thank you for your vlog 👌🏾

Nice vid, really needed this!!!
This is the first video I've seen of yours but I can tell that you and charisma on command are my two favorite channels like this.
Clear sensible approach to bettering oneself and magic player, you sir have a new sub.
Aristotle was explaining how excellence “τελειότητα" was gained and he said that it was gained by repetitive actions (habits). He didn’t say tho that excellence was a habit but he said that excellence was not a condition but an action. “Η αρετή ού εστι καταστασις, αλλά ενέργεια“.
The biggest thing for me was definitely laziness. Once we get in a consistent flow, our habits come naturally to us, and even if were feeling lazy. Definintely going to use these tips! 😁
Thanks so much for the tips!

Dude, you're just awesome! I'm now reading The Power of Habit, from Duhigg. Even reading I still have some doubts about how to apply that in my life, and you made it easy right when I needed!
Thanks for your work on sharing your knowledge Thomas!
oh my, you're a genius. I'm having bad laziness/procrastination problems all my life and I haven't taken action on it until just recently. I'll try your strategy. If it works, I'll subscribe.
Habit building/ discipline is so hard! I'm in grad school and your videos have helped me so much! (I'm a huge fan of the pomodoro method!) Now I need to work harder to build both physical and mental health habits!
LorvicMeow pomodoro is helpful, kind of like the psychological hiit workout. The key is discipline and working it into routines (or rituals if you like Tony Robbins). Also, to discipline yourself try to do something that keeps your end goal/vision in mind. Vision is fundamental to success
What are you studying?
@@M3Lucky A PhD in Education Sciences :)
This is good advice! It's important to find methods that work for you to encourage your good habits. The If-Then technique is a great idea; for me I think about how I want to be able to describe myself to others. Am I the type of person who goes to the gym? Well I have only been once this week, so not really, I should go today instead of watching another episode. Recently I'll want to quit early, like stopping at 7.5 of my 10k but I'll remember, I've been telling people I do a 10k every other day, if you quit now you'll make a liar of yourself. And so I push through.
But whatever works for you! Just remember, no matter how slow you're going, you're still going faster than the guy who's sitting on the couch.
This is wonderful - thank you!
You don’t know how much I needed this
or find a trigger for your bad habits that you want to change, like biting your nails. Whenever you noticed the trigger, do something that you want to create as a habit.
Credit for The Power Of Habits to propose this way of dumping bad habits and creating new ones

Hey Bro ... awesome presentation skills ... I would say ... deep work ,.,

Want to say a huge thank you for all your study tips I'm a very mature student who went back to college after years out of school but thanks to your tips I got distinctions in all my 8 subjects. I found all your tips amazingly helpful big huge from Ireland ☺️
What a brilliant quote by Aristotle. Back then he had figured out the significance of habits.
One huge thing here is to actually commit to doing the thing. One of my biggest problems with laziness is that the thing that I 'ought' to be doing is something that I'm totally uncommitted to be doing on a psychological level. I am basically caught between not at all being passionate about this career path, and on the other hand not at all wanting to face any alternative path in life either (since I can't imagine being even interested in anything ells).
So I'm basically stuck between somewhat interested and utter disinterest. How to then commit to doing the things that I need to do for the career path that I'm only moderatly interested in?
best video your content quality is increasing love it! How you give us new perspective to see the old things in more better way

And I apologize if I spelled Matt‘s last name wrong, but this video has really gave me some insight on how to be more productive when it comes to not just working on my RUclips channel but growing as an individual as well. It all boils down to having real genuine and honest self discipline and ability to be accountable when you make mistakes. Great video Thomas appreciate it!

I use an app called "Habits". Just put some habits you want to develop and set a reminder so you never forget. I just started with "Make your bed every morning" then added "Do 5 pushups" then I increased it to 10, 15 every week and added another habit, so on.
Is the app just called "habits" I see an app called "habits" by louis franco but it doesn't have any reviews.
Your tips and ideas are always so helpful. Thanks for sharing!

You're supposed to be doing what you are supposed to do but you're on RUclips or on the couch or bed with your smartphone. That's being lazy seeking advice on how to stop being lazy.
One thing that helps is to think about what you want. What is it that you want to accomplish? Keep thinking about that thing. Keep thinking about it. The more you think about it the more your desire for it will build, until your desire becomes a burning desire that compels you to take action and overwhelms your desire to be lazy.
Not if you implement the advice and take action. First thoughts, then action. Repetitive, persistent, goal-oriented action equal habits, however thoughts and a plan always come first so the videos can assist in that. However, all videos and no action is procrastination!!! Lol!!!
I'm actually doing this now
Lazinception
I'm not allowed to be not lazy here.
that's great, TY Thomas.
I'm practicing to reading in English.
But I often get sleepy when reading.
Do you have some trick to resolve this problem.
Try reading outside, or in a public place like a coffee shop or a library! Above all, don't read in a big comfy recliner or anything like that. I always get sleepy if I try to read on a chair that's too comfortable.
Siwaphat Boonbangyang where are you reading? Your environment is key. Also try using alternative ways in reading, such as reading in shorter, but more intense bursts
Siwaphat Boonbangyang I have to have some kind of background noise while reading. Have something on tv that’s not going to distract you, or what I prefer to do is listen to instrumental music. Pick something that isn’t too loud and distracting, but also don’t choose something that will put you to sleep. This helps me stay focused and create a zone where I can read while being able to stay stimulated enough to not fall asleep.
Read something that interests and exites you!
I get a lot of good advice.
Many thanks guys.
If you want to be lazy then work first a hour or two :)
that won't work. atleast work less than 25 mins or less if you feel lazy for you to have that momentum at anything.
