Good to see some of the new generation of diy enthusiasts have taken a love to old machinery. Attention to detail with your machining is outstanding. Very nice job on the lathe makeover by the way. I was always told (by a machinest) never to run your lathe with an empty chuck. The centrifugal force can damage the scroll inside the chuck. Of course, spinning by hand or running at a very low rpm would be insignificant. Anyone else heard this before ???
That scared the bejessus out of me, I don't ever want to see a chuck coming at my face. Sorta reminds me of the trade school. Things would fly there! You are a funny fella.
Sitting here at work watching a nice soothing video during my break time, then I was very quickly reminded it was time to get back to work. Great job, I really enjoy your videos. Gary
Anyone can assemble stuff...even I can assemble lots of stuff. It takes vision to be able to 'see' the finished product before you even start. Great work Ca...
It's more like a tribute to This Old Tony, and I watch his videos over and over and over. He's a awesome and chill guy, and I think he likes this video :)
Cà Lem, Great machining, not everybody knows they need to protect the ways when machining cast. I am always amazed at your level of talent. I watch you tear machines down and rebuild them, make super cool belt grinder. Really cool anvil vise!! I'm always excited to see when you have a new video because I know it will be interesting. Wish I had half your talent.
A great idea to put the blanket over the ways to collect cast iron chips. A old machine tool dealer once told me "cast iron dust mixed with way lube is worse than lapping compound". And when the lathe chuck flew off I tried to dodge it LOL!
That guard is an awesome idea and one that I will be copying. I’m doing some cast part turning for a customer and am getting tired of hot curly metal bits in my hair.
Mesmerising - great work, again. What material are the lathe cutters made from? Hardened steel? Titanium? Tungsten carbide? Are there different materials used depending on the depth of material you want to remove? Such a great video to see how to do this - great videography / editing and a skilled machinist. Thank you!
lathe cutters? as in your tooling they can be made from anything really as long as its harder than your material but most of the time it will be carbide of high speed steel
Why is necessary to use cast iron instead of steel? Economics? Dampening vibrations? Dimensional stability? Anti seizing? I need to make one plate for our CNC lathe and I associate cast iron with broken machinery parts. I thought that parts were made of cast iron to reduce manufacturing costs but then I read somewhere that the flakes of carbon make cast iron very effective dampenig vibrations, so I wonder if your choice is related to that property.
This video is just perfect! also I have a question if you don't mind, I noticed that you put some cover on the lathe bed to keep the iron chips from getting on it, why though? are iron chips abrasive and wear the lathe bed quickly?
Nice work Cà Lem, LOL I had to laugh when I heard " This Old Tony " voice over at the start of your videoclip! There might be copyrights using "This Old Tony" muscial voice? keep up the nice work Cà Lem, cheers
Holy damn that ending made me jump haha
Yes I so
It's like horror movie :D .... unexpectedly, Like!
Me 2. Don`t do that :) As usual, great vid!
IKR! I was like WTF just happened? 😁🤣🤣
Me too, dammit !
I really hope this old tony sees this. I bet he would love it.

The way I've heard it is to never run your chuck with the *jaws* empty (and not clamped together), which is understandable.
ain't gonna lie,i'm kinda freaked out a bit after i heard ole Tony voice
Blew my mind for a few minutes! I had to double check things! Lol!
Thought I was tripping!
Make me jump much?! Lol that got me, I wasn’t expecting it hahahahaha! Great job as always!
I second that.
That was a good one!
I freaked!
My heart is still beating fast.
@Bryan Barnard Two for flinching! 💪🏻💪🏻
That scared the bejessus out of me,
I don't ever want to see a chuck coming at my face.
Sorta reminds me of the trade school.

You are a funny fella.
You have an amazing skill, I grew up in machine shops watching guys that have been doing this for 30 years or more, and you are just as good as them.
Very nice!! Great idea for a chip deflector.
the trick with the sheet metal is pure genius
I second that, top tip.
thats basically what you get from people in poorer countries, they make stuff work with pennystock where we buy the 10000$ chip guard
@@SharkyMoto Japan a poor country !!!!!!
Wish u good luck haha

Dear Sir,
There is nothing more satisfying that precise work. Very well done. Kind regards.
That ending was awesome! Worthy of TOT!.
Cà Lem is TOT of Vietnam.
That piece over the cutting is ingenious!
Your clean shop is one to be admired 👌🏻
You got me there, I even went back to the previous page to see if I clicked on the wrong video!
omg The flying chuck at the end scared me like hell.
Ducking awesome video man.
Thank you for bringing us along on your journey.
That was great! Loved the homage, but you really made it your own too. Great job on the back plate!
Sitting here at work watching a nice soothing video during my break time, then I was very quickly reminded it was time to get back to work. Great job, I really enjoy your videos. Gary

I love that shroud around the cutter! Going to try that next time I'm turning cast iron.

I really have enjoyed watching your videos. You're very talented. Thank you!
Awesome machining! I definitely jumped back from my iPad at the ending. Well done😊👍
I like your little cover over the tool. You had me at the end, my greatest fear came true, miss by head by an inch.
Very funny opening! for those who don’t get it, it’s from TOT on his backplate video.
A great idea to put the blanket over the ways to collect cast iron chips. A old machine tool dealer once told me "cast iron dust mixed with way lube is worse than lapping compound". And when the lathe chuck flew off I tried to dodge it LOL!
thank you ;)
I enjoy your sense of humour, shaken but not stirred
As someone who has forgotten. An indicator in a mill spindle that ending sure made me jump.
Great stuff! You make me laugh. Genuinely funny editing, and a nod to the master TOT! Thanks bro
Now that's funny. I jumped back like that chuck was going to come through the monitor. Nice job Ca' lem
OMG, I jumped so hard that wife asked me what was going on. She had headphones on watching some movie. Great video!
Aw you got me at the end. Great cinema. 👍🏿
At the last moment when chuck flew away.I was thrilled and took away my face from the screen.
terrified.
Tricks and tips fromThis old tony!
Me too🤣🤣🤣👏👏👍
I LIKE THE ENDING !!!! dos's your lathe have the time machine option like tony's
yes, of course!
I've been watching TOT for a long time! Now I'm gonna be watching you too! Great Video! The ending was perfect!
worth watching till the end of the video

Your video production is fantastic, just like ToT! great work on the machining as well, very enjoyable.
Okay, sir, at first, I thought you were just uploading Tony's videos, but now you have a new subscriber.
everyboddy that has done lathe work with cast iron hates it. everyone!
Yeah hahaha! I thought brass made a mess, until I had to modify a faceplate...
@@anarcowhatever well yeah brass makes a mess, but it machines like butter. It's my favorite material to turn
My teacher for some reasons love machining cast iron.
@@Trident_Euclid maybe nostalgia?
I love ToT's "cameo"!
He probably not good at that, lol.
Amazing how well your lathe cuts while rotating slowly backwards......
totally got me at the end. Bravo
Awesome as always. Very cool that you were able to use the old man himself!!
LOL, you got me on the ending,, G1!
:)
Good job on you back plate
Thanx for showing
Your chuck cracked my monitor man!
That ending was crazy... flipped me out 😵
That ending was awsome, I really did get scared🤣
I flinched when the cartridge jumped out of the machine!
A VERY NICE JOB AND I LIKE YOUR CHIP GARD
Scared the crap out of me good video great job
I even read the comments before the video finished and it still got me,

Nice, i was waiting for a bit of TOT but the end got me too cheers from OZ.

great job my friend ;)

I can't believe how much I jumped at the end, I pulled my back, and I had to take a flexeril...
Really nice work. Looks like a A style of spindle nose. This is not the easiest to turn due to the both contact with the spindle. Came out nice !
Beautiful work sir.
What the hell is going on here?!
I love your work it’s so fun
You should at least add this old Tony’s link in the description

Somente uma pergunta: Nesse sistema, toda vez que vai retirar a placa tem que tirar ela do flange para retirar o mesmo?
This was really awesome.
