This machine has been waiting for someone like you to give it love and care. I love your videos and they are worth waiting for. I hope you are well. Stay safe and blessed. Ashraf from Scotland 🏴
@10:05 That is the way it is supposed to be, it is a safety feature with lathes that have the single-lever power feed control so you don't accidentally crash the machine. More expensive lathes often have one lever for the carriage and one for the cross slide, so it is not an issue. Some older lathes you don't have to reverse, but are much easier to crash if you aren't careful. It is additionally less complex and therefore cheaper to make it the "safer" way. @10:57 Make sure to maintain the spindle brake pad, some lathes it is just cork, and needs one drop of oil per day of use. It can be a pain to replace, and deteriorates rapidly if not maintained. The Mori-Seiki lathes are very good, you will not want to give that one up unless you come across something like a Monarch.
To be honest, the new lathe sounds really quiet and dammm that ground level precision... So perfect. You sure will turn that thing into a masterpiece xD
Thank You for the great video, and keep on posting! Your shop is coming along nicely. Frank Stronach - an Austrian machinist - came to Canada.. bought a Lathe, Mill, and surface grinder.. had to sleep on a cot by his lathe at night.. He is now one of the richest men in the world. A good read is "Magna Man".
Cant wait for the new videos! Please show the whole process of building and rearranging your workshop, its always interesting. and of course the lathe restoration!
That chuck cleaned up very well! And that lathe, even though you can see it has done work in its life, is in great shape. My brand-new lathe, made in a place just North of your country, had more backlash out of the box when I bought it 5 years ago!
That Mori lathe is beautiful man; can't wait to see it restored! It's always hard to say goodbye to a piece of gear you've put so much love into. Keep it up!
Great job on the chuck and congratulations on the new lathe - it looks like a really well-kept machine. You'll have to paint it green now to match the other stuff in your shop, and I am sure the chucks won't mind if you sleep with them. Great video, Ca Lem.
As much as I love my lathe, I have some serious envy of your new purchase. That Mori is in remarkably good condition. I'm glad that it's in the hands of someone as skilled as you are.
Brilliant! I don't know very much, but the new lathe seems very well designed and built. And I was suprised that you scraped off most of the rust before the evaporust; it worked so good! Most people seem to just throw the parts in dirty, and it doesn't work as well. It's a simple thing, but... very nice!
That evaporust is some of the greatest stuff that's ever come down the pike,.. I'm really enjoying your channel and I have a great appreciation for you,,, you remind me of myself if you don't have it build it and you seem to have a pretty good bead on how things should be please keep up the great videos and good work.,
Nice lathe you ended up with there. Not always fun to walk away from a machine, but there's always something better down the road. Good find! Make a small Murphy bed, hang it on the wall..... good to go!
Nice job on the chuck and a very good lathe to join it with. All those machines you have, or had, are very lucky to have met you. Good luck with the update of the shop - I am sure it is worth to wait for the next shop update from you. I have seen different styles of video from you and I love this style too. All the best from the Netherlands!
Great looking new lathe! Sad to see the first one go, but the new one has a great look to it. Happy you were able to get one in very good condition. Thanks for the upload and I look forward to the next!
So glad to see you again!! Your reasoning for selling your old lathe and getting this one is a very sound move. You have some work to do but overall, the new lathe looks pretty good. T truly admire your work ethic and abilities. Take care. :)
@ I have large room in the house right next to the shop that I walk thru from the kitchen to the shop. We don't really use it. Over time I have slowly started putting random things, mostly material (wood) in there to get it out of the shop. One day my wife will notice and I'll have a big problem! Good luck Bro!
Excellent video; your work is always worth waiting for. I have such admiration for you and the zen way you go about being an incredible machinist and human being.
A great purchase and a great lathe - soon to be even GREATER in your hands :-) I'm looking forward to watching the progress and the items made on this lathe. Best wishes :-)
Sweeeeeeet. A new ( to you ) lathe. Too bad the other person was not honest about the lathes he had but I think this one is much better than the two were. Very nice, I am happy for you.
Nice find on the Dmg Mori. That backlash can be fixed and its a great upgrade for you. Is the 4 jaw for this lathe? Awesome restoring job. Glad to see you are doing well. Your skills are right up there with Abom79.
I feel like the lathe will experience a renaissance in your hands! And that it will help you get a new room too 😉! I look forward to a future restoration.
Evaporust is great, used it to restore a little Hobbymatt lathe i have. One thing, i didn’t see you oil over the chuck. Anything i diddnt soak in oil/WD40 went rusty very quickly after. New lathe looks great. Love the “heart break” pictures of the old one.
That's a really nice lathe. You can hang a hammock in the corner and sleep over the lathe. No one could steal your tools. Or maybe build a bedroom over the shop.
Congratulations! I'm not too sure how old that machine is, but whoever ran it before you was very experienced, cared about maintaining the obvious points, or the darn thing was just a dust collector for its life. I didn't see any obvious dents, dings deformations on the cross slide, gear changes and handle movements appeared smooth with clicks and no clunks or grinding, and mostly factory fresh backlash. ( True backlash needs checked in a different manner ) DMG MORI has a long tradition of really going the extra mile with their machines and are solid, reliable and a joy to use. You have a true jewel there and I can't think of anyone else better to own/operate that machine. (Outside of myself of course!) Oh, and one more thing, considering the attachments I see, that machine was designed for high production. You could make a lot of money with it. A lot of hard work tho.
Always good to see another video from you! I just picked up my own old lathe to restore recently, though I think mine will need quite a bit more work than yours...
That's really a nice lathe....the major critical items are in great shape. The machinery gods were looking out for you. Your shop has really come a long way...looking great !! 👍👍
Happy to see your hand has healed up nicely, and great job on the chuck restoration, very well done. The new lathe looks like it's in pretty good shape, the ways look nice, clean and true. It's a bit rough looking but what hard working machine room tool doesn't look like it''s been through a hard days work? Little elbow grease some time and lots of scraping and scrubbing and it will look like your old lathe in no time. With less (was a bit hard to see) than not even a tenth out on the spindle , you will have yourself a good machine once you dress it up a bit. Well done, stay safe and protect your hands! Cheers!
It looks like the Mori Seiki was well taken care of by the previous owner. The way that you take care of your machinery this lathe should last a lifetime. It's almost hard to believe the condition that it's in. I'm happy for you!! Looking forward to the next video.
Apart from the rust and grime collecting over the years and the enormous backlash, this old lathe looks pristine. With some surface scraping on the slide carriage flats (i don't know what they're called in english) it will be a hell of a good lathe. Fellow machinist here; love your videos. You're doing great
I cannot wait to see that lathe cleaned up. It looks like it's in fantastic condition. Great video and voiceover. Keep up the good work! :) Cheers, Craig
Bueatiful lathe. Ways look pretty good - clean! No galling or scoring. Having the other deals fall through is a bummer, but you definitely made the right choice
Great video as always Ca Lem...really admire how quick you can arrange and find a different machine when you need to. I'm somehow to much in love with my machines and I hardly seel or change for another... this course is on me ;)

Theyre selling machines on the street here. Like fishes and chickens. Lol
What a beauty - the new lathe. Maybe you find the time to "restore" (paint and make nice is probably all is needed) it. Would love to watch it!!! Just looking at the gears made my heart go faster!
I like the new lathe. Both my Clausing and Logan have that same issue with the cross slide vs carriage directions needing to be reversed to go in the most common directions.

I think facing out and turning are in the same cutting edge on the tool bit.
Those are very good machines, and they are still being made and many parts will interchange. Currently being made in Korea by Whacheon. Thanks for sharing and while you will always have to do work on an older machine I know you can handle it. Charles
I just got done commenting on you last video and then saw this one. I'm glad you were able to get a good lathe again, and from what you showed that does indeed look like it is in great shape. I really like the Hydraulic brake; that stops sooo fast! I have a new PM1440bv with the VFD inverter drive and it uses the inverter for braking. I love the inverter for the variable drive, but the braking action is so slow.
Ikegai lathes are very good - I almost bought the A20 toolroom lathe. We don't see many Japanese lathes in the UK. I have a 1964 Colchester Triumph Roundhead lathe. It doesn't look very pretty but there is almoszt no wear and it runs like a new machine. 7.5" centre height and will turn 24" in the gap - or 60cm! Pretty big. Only drawback top speed is only 1000rpm - not so good for small stuff with carbide tooling.
So pleased to see you're well. Great work on the chuck! I'm sure by the time you have worked your magic on the lathe, especially with your attention to detail, it will probably be better than new. 👍👍
I have a Moriseiki MR2000G, it was looking really bad and almost all the paint stripped etc. But the ways looked perfect, and that's why I bought it. And partially for the toolpost with 15 holders. The ways both x and z are lubricated automatically so as long as you have oil in the reservoir and don't use it as a cylindrical grinder, the hard ways will have very long lifespan
Very nice Lathe! I got the same problem with my Okuma on the power feed direction of the cross slide. There are a lot of similar design points. I think yours is even better on the ways and slides. Are you going to paint it? I plan to do this in the future. My Okuma video will be out in a week. Will also do some runout test.

Thanks man. I’ll repaint and srcaping the compound dovetails, cross slide as well. Definitely will take it apart and give it some love.
Very nice lathe, well done. Don't worry about losing a bedroom, the lathe has a bed.
Vibration bed and harmorious sounds.
Just put a box spring on it and you're good :)
Very beautiful. You are servicing a lathe. Meaningful
A man with his priorities in order, lathe more important than bed. Can't wait to see this thing making parts!
This machine has been waiting for someone like you to give it love and care.
I love your videos and they are worth waiting for.
I hope you are well.
Stay safe and blessed.

Thanks man!
What better on a cold, rainy miserable day than a video from one of my favourite creators?
From what I have seen of your work in the past, this old lathe is the luckiest lathe on the planet.
@10:05 That is the way it is supposed to be, it is a safety feature with lathes that have the single-lever power feed control so you don't accidentally crash the machine. You are a brilliant machinist and an inspiration to me and many like me. Thank you!
Just got a lathe from my grandpa. Love how you indicated the accuracy of the bed and headstock. Never thought to do that. Thanks.
So glad to see you back making videos, and with a new project.I can't wait to see your new bedroom!
Hardened ways... one less thing to deal with. Looking forward to this rebuild series.
Thanks for sharing,
Cheers

you've done well Brother! that decision to leave those lathes led you to the moriseki - it looks like an amazing machine!
and led him to having to give up a bed and sleep in the dirt, something we all can aspire to !
Lol. A shop with granite floor, toilet, aircon, pink and purple paint, some cool pictures and paitings hanging around. Who need to sleep.
@@heliarcweldandmachine i do anyway! you ever been north hahaha
That chuck cleaned up very well! And that lathe, even though you can see it has done work in its life, is in great shape. My brand-new lathe, made in a place just North of your country, had more backlash out of the box when I bought it 5 years ago!
There is an old saying. "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". Nice recovery with the Mori, a quality machine.
That Mori lathe is beautiful man; can't wait to see it restored! It's always hard to say goodbye to a piece of gear you've put so much love into. Keep it up!
I’m glad you ended up with a good lathe. You are on the right path.
Nice project Calem ! Good luck with all this crazy restoration ... Thanks to share this moment with us !
Great job on the chuck and congratulations on the new lathe - it looks like a really well-kept machine. You'll have to paint it green now to match the other stuff in your shop, and I am sure the chucks won't mind if you sleep with them.
Great video, Ca Lem.
Sure thing ;)
Yes, it has to be Ca Lem green!
@ YOUR NEW ENGINE LATHE IS IT JAPANESE MANUFACTURER .😨 .
As much as I love my lathe, I have some serious envy of your new purchase. That Mori is in remarkably good condition. I'm glad that it's in the hands of someone as skilled as you are.

Cá Lem your a super talented machinist, with a well organized shop. Very detail oriented. 👍✌😁 The world are full of the most wonderful people.

That Moriseiki MS is one of the finest engine lathes ever made. Congrats
They are great lathes. Hope you give it a great home.
Your new lathe was worth waiting for. Best wishes on your planned shop changes - no one ever seems to go to a smaller shop once on that road.
Nice purchase! That lathe seems to be a top quality tool. Can't wait to see the restoration video!!!
Nice lathe you ended up with there. Not always fun to walk away from a machine, but there's always something better down the road. Good find! Make a small Murphy bed, hang it on the wall..... good to go!

Spindle head looks like new. I am glad for you! Never sorry if you looking for better. It is natural for people. So keep that way! Good for you!
Fantastic Ca, really great score. What a beautiful Mori Seiki lathe!! You can always build a skybed over it!!
That lathe is a diamond in the rough. It will look awesome when you are finished.
Best wishes
Great looking new lathe! Sad to see the first one go, but the new one has a great look to it. Happy you were able to get one in very good condition. Thanks for the upload and I look forward to the next!
So looking forward to the expansion and the restoration of the new old lathe!!!
So glad to see you again!! Your reasoning for selling your old lathe and getting this one is a very sound move. You have some work to do but overall, the new lathe looks pretty good. T truly admire your work ethic and abilities. Take care. :)
Giving up your bedroom for your shop is hardcore!
Ive been thinking about that for years. No other options so... but will be a nice shop with toilet and aircon. Who need to sleep.
@ I have large room in the house right next to the shop that I walk thru from the kitchen to the shop. We don't really use it. Nice work on the chuck and really nice lathe!
All the best,
Uncle Robin
Thanks uncle Robin. How do you think about that Riken toolroom lathe. Should i bring it home and rebuild it. Really good price for that machine btw.
Excellent video; your work is always worth waiting for. I have such admiration for you and the zen way you go about being an incredible machinist and human being.
THAT will look fantastic in green! Congrats, mate!

Very Nice, I am sooooo Happy you got another lathe, I look forward to all the new content.!!

those ways look amazing and the runouts look tight. what a beast of a machine..cant wait to see it in green

Beautiful lathe. I know you’re going to restore it and make it awesome! Can’t wait!
I'm thoroughly impressed. Yes, sacrifice is a necessary pain for success... I know your pain all too well. Stay focused, and stay strong.
Ca Lem you have done it again. Both chuck and lathe are in great condition. Congratulations and thanks for sharing. Can you build up?
Nice machine can’t wait to see how u make her look
Nice upgrade, knowing you it will come out looking like new :)
Very nice lathe..good job !
yesss...my night is made. thanks for the vid good to hear of new developments
I know that when you are done this will be like a brand new lathe. Stay safe and well.
Very nice Lathe Machines. 👍👍👍
Да, станок конечно дерзкий и геометрия просто супер.
Good trade. That Ikigai had problems. To bad.
That Mori-Seki your going to LOVE !!! Great Machine !!!
Nicely done 👍👍👍Thanks for sharing
Cool restoration, and very nice condition of new lathe. It"s like new one. Greetings from Ukraine.
Ese torno tiene mucho potencial. Has hecho una buena compra. Un saludo desde España
You can sleep on the lathe bed ;) It's a damn fine machine. Well done.
That is a beautiful lathe! I am sure you will make it run as new in no time 👍🏼
Thanks uncle Yuchol. Hopefully it will be beautiful as your
Glad it worked out with the new lathe. I got screwed over bigly when I bought my current lathe on an internet auction site. Some cowboys out there.
So committed to your work, well done. But it is also important to take rest. 👍🙏💤
this lathe is a miracle
I have a Moriseiki MR2000G, it was looking really bad and almost all the paint stripped etc. But the ways looked perfect, and that's why I bought it. And partially for the toolpost with 15 holders. The ways both x and z are lubricated automatically so as long as you have oil in the reservoir and don't use it as a cylindrical grinder, the hard ways will have very long lifespan
Very little wear on that bed, that lathe looks to be in very good condition. I see another green dream machine in the near future, well done
This guy is bloody amazing!
I hope the lathe will get the green colors!
