I saw Zoolander 2 on my birthday. I haven't celebrated a birthday since.
I really liked "Daddy Day Care" with Eddie Murphy, Jeff Garland and Steve Zahn. It was a dumb but relatable/believable concept with some very funny moments. The sequels "Daddy Day Camp," and then "Grand-Daddy Day Camp" were really bad, just reusing the concept of the original plot with Cuba Gooding Jr in Murphy's role, and no Garlin or Zahn and then 3rd movie that had nothing to do with the first two were really just a waste of time and the studio trying to get people to watch just on the name of the first movie that was a marginal success (60 mil budget, 164 box office)
You know its a bad sign when the OG cast is like "oh you making another one? (*Reads script), no thanks, I'll pass!"
Trash
One movie that I would have loved to see a sequel to was Heavyweights. It’s an early Apatow script and very funny for a Disney movie of that era, so I figure it deserves to be listed alongside Superbad as maybe deserving a sequel that we’ll never get.
Superbad why not. 80s classic stripes wouldve been fun.
Nobody Seymour Butts than you, Uncle Tony.
Sequel that was unexpectedly funny: lethal weapon 4
Sequels almost always use the first film as a template because of audience expectations, and audience expectations are a creative straightjacket.
That’s actually a pretty clever analogy :3
Aw man now I'm an hour in and can't believe I forgot Austin Powers. I didn't love Wayne's World 2 but that's a me problem. I get that it wasn't a huge diminishment from the original.
I got nervous when you mentioned Home Alone 3, I was the voice of the parrot
Roger Ebert loved your work
Just occurred to me the movie reviewer I listen to is blind…
Another great one guys, very insightful. When you played the second trailer in the episode, "Weekend at Bernies 2" Mike said the thing i was thinking, i miss those old trailers. The stupid music, that same announcer voice, the dumb one liners that might not even be in the final movie. Just engaging the algorithm guys, good luck!!!
Thanks!
an epic film better than the first comedy is Jim Carrey's Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995) .. Ace Ventura Junior (from 2009) not so much 😂 Even though Josh Flitter is a good sport about it.
Clerks 2 was a personal disappointment for me, but I did enjoy Clerks: The Animated Series.
Despite having a cornier plot line and replacing an exiting Chris Tucker with Mike Epps, I think Next Friday is equally as funny as the first Friday movie.
I watched both Clerks 2 and Clerks when I was 15 and I found the sequel to be much funnier. I'm sure as an adult it's probably the opposite
Love both
Son of the Mask is the worst comedy sequel I've ever seen and might be the worst movie period I've ever watched. It's horrendously bad. A good comedy sequel I always cite is Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, better than the first I think. Even the recent Bill and Ted movie was pretty decent, a solid trilogy all round!
Dumb and dumberer was good. Fight me.
Bob Saget was hilarious in it... don't remember the rest of it though.
Hitting tards is against the law for some reason.
"My new haircut" went super viral on youtube but the follow up was aweful.
I know its the hangover ..mike is.about to say the worse and i yelled hangover at work
An interesting series for me is Scary Movie, because it fits in both categories. It both has great sequels with Scary Movie 2 and honestly even 3, and then some of the worst sequels ever.
I'm not even a movie guy but I enjoyed this episode. Great show boys!
That’s totally true. I think he ruined his comedic standing with me and the majority of the country with his unwanted and unnecessarily stupid attempts to “take down” the trump administration which most people liked despite the Hollywood medias stupid slanted bubble world
My vote for the worst sequel is Blues Brothers 2000. Ugh, I loved the original and this was just awful
The sequels to National Lampoon's Vacation are drastically inferior to the original.
Also, what about the Police Academy franchise? The first three are pretty good. But after that, the drop is huge.
A joke I’ve heard from the show Modern Family; Ed O’Neills character makes a joke, trying to sweet talk a female officer out of a ticket.
He says “I’ve seen all the Police Academy movies.”
She says “no one’s seen all the Police Academy movies.”
And she gives him a ticket, lol
European Vacation was a very good comedy sequel.
I always thought of it as their character is shaped by the plot and what it allows them to create in the first movie, and in the sequel, they’re just trying to remember what they did.
Also: The Mask 2 was pure crap
Ben Stiller pretty much admits that in one of the clips.
How could anyone-ANYONE-think that Weekend at Bernie’s 2 is a bad movie?
What about City Slickers and City Slickers II?
This was another quality WAYL Maybe a follow up? There so many more to critique. Including my suggestion "The Odd Couple 2", which in no way influenced my opinion. I do fear that Mike will say that he doesn't find Neil Simon funny and then I will have to swap his moisturiser for boot polish.
Plenty we can still get to!
@@BlindMikeProject Woohoo!
Duece Bigelow and scary movie had some good sequels
Siskel and Ebert let's go!
Animal House did have a "sequel." They did a spin off series that only had one season and followed Bluto's younger brother/cousin. It had half of the original cast and completely flopped. Episodes are out there but the quality is bad
A series? I'll have to check that out
@@BlindMikeProject I managed to find it, it's called Delta house and you can find the episodes on youtube
Idk how Ace Ventura Pet Detective ranks because I owned the sequel on vhs but never saw the original
That's one people seem to love.
I didn't hate the Hangover 2 however the Hangover 3 is the Gregg "Opie" Hughes of movies.
Anchorman 2 was a huge disappointment
I thought 22 Jump Street was funny and better than 21 Jump Street. The whole movie is a parody of sequels in general.
All the Ernest movies were great sequels
I might need to rewatch Super Troopers 2. I loved the original, hated the 2nd. Also, against popular opinion, I loved Broken Lizard’s follow-up to Super Troopers, the movie Club Dread with the great Bill Paxton.
Long time, first time: my 2¢ for BEST comedy sequels Scary Movie 2 and Naked Gun 2 1/2, the Smell of Fear.
Fletch Lives is pretty solid but I agree comedy sequels are usually rough.
Fletch Lives stinks
"Horrible Bosses 2" better than the first. No argument
for a while I heard they were planning to Make a Superbad/Pineapple Express combination sequel/spinoff, where the characters from each movie meet.
Starring Seth Rogen AND Seth Rogen?
Oh, that would’ve been…really funny. Just kidding, it’s sounds terrible.
They’d be “calling back” to so many jokes & quotes from the first movies.
Honestly the whole “dude bro!” comedy Rogan did with those movies only worked well in the 2000’s for weed addled late teens/20’s demographic of audiences.
Pineapple Express is an amazing comedy in general, & it’s actually clever AF. Superbad is funny, but the whole “underaged drinking & sex, dude!” humor stopped being funny the older I get, IMO.
They kind of did that with This is the End
@@yaboityler2617 IMO, that movie was awful. It’s mood just felt like a celebrity circle-J. Kinda like how people view the Oscars these days as “celebrities patting themselves on the back.”
Make movies with the same actors but new plots.
Twins > Junior
Step Brothers > Holmes and Watson
Also Blues Brothers 2000
The naked gun, airplane and first 4 police academy movies are great
Btw these member videos - unlike other youtube videos normally... if I close my phone the playback stops. This only happens on member vids
Interesting. I'll see if we can change that or if it's a RUclips issue
Stop being a cheap bastard and become a member
Dumb and dumberer comes to mind as a terrible sequel
Yo b-mikey! Whats up!
Hello!
Debbie Does Dallas
No Blues Brothers 2000?
We also forgot Airplane 2. May call for a sequel of our own!
I have bought copies of this terrible movie, usually a dollar or less, and threw them in the trash...no one should see Blues Brothers 2000
My vote for best sequel is meet the fockers
Ace Ventura sequel was just as good
best sequel was bill amd ted 2
Theres nothing wrong aith Anchorman 2 unless youre one of those idiots who think that Anchorman 1 was Dr. fucking Strangelove.
hangover 2 was better than the 1st.
Interesting take
Movies in general are dead. It's now about how woke and how much money you can lose
That’s a pretty narrow & short sighted way to look at things.
If you look hard enough, a lot of movies since the introduction of Hollywood have had malicious intent woven into their narrative. Like Forrest Gump, & even the Stepford Wives.
That whole “things USED TO be good” is absolute BS.
You just gotta avoid the biggest dumbest loudest cash grab movies. Just like you used to, but for different reasons
Oh shocking they liked the clearly leftist propaganda movie borat 2
Yep. That's why it was on this episode.
They liked it so much, they added it to a list of "the worst comedy sequels of all time."
