Transformers One Trailer Blows: Hasbro In Flames!

  • The first trailer for Transformers One dropped this week. Nothing prepared Transformers fans (not even the Michael Bay films) for a sneak peak this awful. Hasbro needs something outside of Magic: The Gathering to hit with an audience. But his ain't it. Transformers One is a massive turnoff to lifelong fans of Autobots and Decepticons. Things got even worse when Hasbro announced their licensing out Power Rangers to rival toy company Playmates. Wes and Aaron Sparrow marvel at how awful Transformers One looks and how far Hasbro has fallen. Transformers One trailer blows, while Hasbro is on fire.

This is NOT transformers, it's "lightyear" - pixarformers if you will.
I agree with you guys . Hasbro just has no one there that knows how to handle this property anymore. They keep running from the idea it's a war story . There was a lot of crossover with staff from IDW a few years back which could explain some of it. But man Transformers One looks cringe AF.

I think we, as adults, forget that we watched the Transformers (cartoon) when we were kids & that's who it was aimed to. This movie is geared towards kids, that's who it's being marketed to, like the cartoons we are so fond of. This isn't for us, but if you have a kid that's interested in it, you're going to take them. So they got you regardless if you like it or not.

This new Transformers film is definitely going after that Pixar "Cars" age range based on the success of the Spider-verse films, but those other franchises had appeal beyond tweens. This looks to be the intellectual equivalent of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
But I really enjoyed TMNT Mutant Mayhem, which captured the Mirage Studios look better than any previous Turtles media. And I also loved Bumblebee, but I was never a huge Trnasformers fan, having already been familiar with the original Japanese toys that inspired them. Power Rangers were always moronic.

I’m a big Transformers fan. I’ve spent at this point thousands on third party Transformers. I’m invested for the most part. The past year I’ve slowed down on my collection because it’s almost where I want it.
But, I can’t remember the last time I purchased a Hasbro Transformer. Hasbro has increasingly over the past decade shrinking the product size and increasing the price. But for the most part they’re almost knock off level quality.
And normally I agree with Arron but those Netflix Transformers series were terrible. The cheap voice talent was painful to get through. And they were cheap because they didn’t want to use union actors. So RUclipsrs they got.
I’m dubious of the Transformers/GiJoe film ever getting made. Paramount has been in serious financial trouble. So the prospects of it happening will be astounding if they pull funds from somewhere. Also, as much as divisive as the Bay films were they had high level cgi, and spectacle. The characters designs and storytelling are definitely up for debate. Plus attractive women too.
If Hasbro and Paramount were smart they’d adapt the original first three episodes of Transformers G1. Because this new one looks like a turkey. Run of the mill cgi “lol so random humor”.
One thing that was mentioned in Flint Dille’s book The Gamesmaster was when he and the people that worked on the original Sunbow series like Transformers, GIJoe, Vsionaries etc was that the stories were half hour toy commercials. But they also were writing the stories for the adults also watching with their kids, the people who would be buying the toys. So they wanted to make sure they were getting entertained too. That has been getting lost.
Last note: that cgi He-Man show was good. I didn’t like many of the changes from the original. But, it turned out to be more mature than the Kevin Smith train wreck.

We've gotten a lot worse with majority of Bay/live-action movies and Netflix series which was plain BORING. Rise of the Beasts was bad. At least this has humor in it which has been missing for quite while. I'm willing to watch it and give it my own opinion. Hopefully its good. Also it may spark new generation of kids to buy TFs. Earthspark doesn't seem to move much. Hasbro needs to do something. Hasbro use to have gimmick or something with each new line like Cyber keys, minicons, whatever. Now the only thing selling for Hasbro is mainly G1.
As to the toys for it, I think Hasbro may do line just for kids and another more for adults. Usually how it is.

Between this and losing steam with Power Rangers by burning the bridge with Sentai (which is still chugging along with both new seasons and anniversary specials) and banking solely on the Netflix reboot supposedly which will once again double down on MMPR bias/nostalgia (which despite what your cohost says does alienate longtime fans who know the series isn’t just about those 3 seasons), it seems Hasbro doesn’t care about making a profit and just seeing what will stick at this point

Those properties are deader then dead...and it would take a real heavy lift to create new customers for them cause all the old ones are not coming back. And I agree with Aaron too. The basic principles of those properties are SOUND. But I think he'd recognize they would see the need to re-invent them beyond what was necessary to give a 21st century upgrade and end up damaging beyond repair the core principles that could make them sell again. I'm a huge Transformers fan, I love it more than every other pop culture property by a large margin. I will be honest this appeals to me more than the Michael Bay movies but less so then Bumblebee and Rise of the beasts. The only voice I like is Chris Hemsworth, he mentioned in an interview he worked with Peter Cullen to get the voice right and it shows, he sounds like Optimus Prime but clearly younger. Also I know we talk crap about IDW's time with Transformers but that that was mostly towards the end. There was a really good period of around 2008 to 2014 where IDW was making some of the best Transformers stories in the 40 year history of the franchise. I still stand behind stuff like All Hail Megatron, Last Stand of the Wreckers and the first 21 issues of More Than Meets eye as stories every Transformers fan needs to experience at some point. Honorable mention to Megatron Origin creating the most interesting and compelling origin to the formation of the Decepticons.

Look at the Spider-Verse movies, Batman the animated series, Spectacular Spider-Man, I remember as a kid I always preferred those to the cringe of Ultimate Spider-Man and Batman The Brave and The Bold (although this last one I've come to appreciate more as an adult ironically). It is funny that Hollywood thinks so little of children’s interests that they feel the need to dumb it down in order to make them watch it. Some of the most memorable kids films like Toy Story or WALL-E are well written and have moments of humor but don’t use it to degrade their characters. I know when I was a kid the transformers movie I was dying to see was in adaptation of the fall of cybertron video game. If you make entertaining movies that can appeal to more than one age group you will likely make more money and be more favorable to fans. At the very least treat movies using already established franchises with the respect they deserve.

This type of humor and story may have worked For TMNT, but it's not going to work for Transformers! One size does not fit all
Transformers is a totally different genre it needs to be serious, because being serious is what made it popular in the 80s!
I am also tired of the whole Optimus Prime who is unsure of himself and his leadership that was Rodimus Prime's character, not Optimus. Optimus reminded me of John Wayne, someone who was sure of himself and led by example and never faltered.

I thought it looked incredible, I don't think you understand transformers. How would YOU do an origin movie for a cybertron before the wars, it was a peaceful place and the film is trying to be a trilogy, it will definitely get more serious as the films come out. The voice casting being big name actors and not voice actors is kind of a downside but the lead Chris Hemsworth sounds pretty decent for a young Orion in my opinion. The animation looks stunning. I've been a fan of transformers since I was a kid and I KNOW when the series is bad because there have been a LOT of negative stuff with this franchise but I think this will be a great start to get more kids into the series and satisfy lifelong fans. But hey thats my opinion and I respect yours.

    • @Ivoryenperor9
      @Ivoryenperor9 Месяц назад +5

Sure you can have the origins of the Transformers being during peace time , but do you need to do it with moronic jokes that no real person would make like bumblebee calling himself “badass-tron.” Or with characters that don’t seem to take there circumstances seriously in any way. Also should we really trust these Hollywood studios to make it more serious when they haven’t shown these behaviors in the past? As I said in another comment the most highly rated kids films like WALL-E or Toy Story took themselves seriously and were well received by almost everyone. You don’t need constant bad jokes to attract a young audience. I know when I was a kid I wanted transformers stories about the war/fall for cybertron and wanted a serious story. You see this wjth Stories like Star Wars. You have an improbable premise that takes itself and characters seriously and kids and adults loved it. This should be the same with transformers. I totally agree the animation is phenomenal.

Bumblebee is the BEST Transformers film. So all they did was take one of their previously released kids movies, change the characters in them to be Transformers, and decided to call it a new Transformers movie. Seriously listen to the dialogue in the trailer, its the same goofy dumb dialogue you would find in another kids animated movie. So no effort was really made here. They just cloned a script and inserted Transformers characters. This is god awful and no way will I watch this. If I was a kid back watching Transformers I wouldn't watch this either. I don't' need a goofy origin story like this. Distribution has always been a problem with toys, especially once places like Toys R Us went away and you are left with Walmart. Walmart doesn't care about toys. They sell them cause its a simple ad on to their overall categories of items. If you have a small Walmart you will near zero for product as they will devote the space to other items or younger kids toys and Legos that sell. If you have a big Walmart then you will have more space to work with, but probably the same problem. You are also at the whim of whomever is running the department (and the toy department is not separate. It is lumped in with other departments so Walmart can have less managers per department aka less employees) to get the stuff out for sale. And if time/employees are limited then it may sit in back for days to weeks before it goes out for sale. Diamond Comics was always hard with toys cause the discount was never high enough cause Diamond wouldn't order enough, like a Walmart, to get the lower wholesale price. Plus for a very long time you would get the toys a couple weeks after they might already be hitting Walmart or Target. Oh one other thing about Walmart, they are doing inventory now. So any dead product they don't want to count is thrown out on clearance. That includes toys. They blew out the dead McFarlane DC Super Powers figures for $6.00 each after a year plus of them dying on the pegs. Not surprisingly they all sold out then. What you really need is a large branded retailer to come back and show case toys for what they can be. But with the internet, and the ability to specialize to niche and clik groups, that makes it hard to develop as you need wide ranging brands that appeal to a mass customer base. Not a limited high end version made by a Sideshow or a Super 7 that can't be sold in that kind retail environment. HI Aaron!!! WTF20.

This is a follow up to my previous comment about Power Rangers.
However there was some messaging in Cosmic Fury even though id considered it somewhat suttle if you've seen the episode where mucus returns you know exactly what I'm talking about. In a more adult oriented show I would probably agree but you should not be pushing that on to CHILDREN. and at least make it more suttle. Anyone who can rub 2 halves of a brain cell together could point it out. There is literally a reaction of normies, not THE normies just normies, watching the episode and being like "YAAAY" typical idjits 🙄 even if the audience is more teenage and adult it's still a kid show that millions of little kids can, will and do watch. I had no hope for the reboot before but now I'm positive it's DOA. Especially with hackbro smokin the pipe. I'm not even talking about the "woke" pipe they just suck (no pun intended) 😂 im just glad they didnt go full woke with the last season because thats what i anticipated. There was some decent story and character moments but overall it just wasnt good. They did respect previously established characters and lore from previous seasons and thats least we can ask for.
