At the end of the video, getting to see you greet your daughter was the highlight of the video. You could see the joy on her face getting to see her dad. PRICELESS.
Breaking out on top never gets old. One of my very favorite parts of flying. You can’t help but feel special and sorry for the people on the ground. Enjoy your videos.
Welcome to Tennessee :-) I live in Tennessee and have no idea what that guy said. Graceland is worth seeing. Nice to see a low ifr departure out of KMEM
I just wanted to say thank you for the level of detail that you are showing as you fly. It helps me so much to understand my instrument training. Keep up the great work!
The glass in your airplane is amazing. What a difference it makes for SA. Even the ForeFlight with the plane on the plate is an amazing add to the approach. Happy flying!!
Great video! Great family! Great plane! Thanks for sticking your neck out and letting all of us watch a hand flown ILS approach in choppy conditions with a right crosswind. Considering the conditions it was a passable approach from my perspective.
Big time kudos for sharing this video even though you had your struggles keeping the localizer. Certainly more real than some that only show their perfect approaches/landing through the magic of editing. Great video!
Wow what a Blessing that your Daughter is in the Women's Ministry to get the Word of Our LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST to them and I know you have to be a Proud and Truly a Blessed DAD
GOD is SO GOOD all the Time and we all Truly serve a GOD that loves us and I'm blessed to say that I myself always love seeing family members serving for Him
Hello, I just came across your channel. Awesome stuff. Beautiful aircraft and I like how you teach throughout your videos. Nice camera work! Thank you for posting these. It’s a boon to aviation and now I have ANOTHER aircraft I want to buy when I hit the lottery. 😉
Dear Malibu Flyer, thank you very much for your great Videos. I am flying a Piper Arrow and looking out for a nice Malibu. Which is not easy here. Best regards from Austria!
Super video, with a freshman in college next year, your video hit home. Also a great reminder I need to do more hand flying and not be so reliant on avionics.
I really enjoyed that! I’m doing my instrument training now in a Mooney. (In Memphis actually) I’ve been hand flying every approach before I start using the autopilot. You have a beautiful plane and panel! Thanks for the video!
I thought you were in for a pea soup flight, but it turned out nice once you were up. Nice day above the clouds. Ah, you need to keep in touch with your daughter. It is not so easy to keep contact (more to see them) when they are vast distances away. Take every chance you can to see them.
Cool flight. I also like to hand fly IMC approaches to maintain proficiency. My videos are nowhere as nice as yours though. Keep up the good work. I currently own a Piper Lance and love it. One day I might step up into a Malibu for the FIKI and increased cruise speeds.
Another great video. I love your plane and your videos are some of my favorite because of all the camera angles. You're editing is fantastic. I just wanted to point out that I could hear a slight echo on the audio. I'm not sure if it was my headsets or a feedback in the audio stream. It wasn't enough to disrupt the video, just a slight echo in the background. Like someone in the back repeating everything you say on the radio. I just wanted to point it out in case there was some weird setting that needed to be adjusted. Of course, I could just be crazy...
Hi Michael. You're not crazy. That is the result of the Sony camera I've been using for the forward view. The timecode has a very slight offset from the audio recorder and GoPro's so it's hard to keep perfectly aligned. I'm switching back to a GoPro for that view so it should resolve the echo. Thanks for pointing out.
I really got excited when I saw you we're in the area (Ocala) yesterday. It was a shame we weren't in Ocala. Would have loved to have been just to get a look at your plane and the new engine. Maybe next time. Blessings Bishop Kirby. Great video and information
Wow ide swim the snake river to get a chance to fly in your plane. Looks awesome and I am partial to Piper aircrafts. Thanks for the video and big fan here.
Largest Bass Pro is in Springfield, MO. Highly recommended. Inside in the museum is the complete original Bass Pro store. Don't miss the rifle museum and the archery museum either. Also attached is the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium.
Why do you not use any flaps on takeoff. Just wondering. I have been flying Pipers since 1970 and learned to fly from a 1200 foot grass strip, so I got use to using flaps on takeoff, has been a habit ever since. I love your Piper. Thanks for the videos.
Just so enjoying your videos and if you love wine come see my wife and I in Napa and we can trade wine tours for flying😀 Love the fact that you are Christians also!!
Nice video. My only 2 cents is to just be careful intercepting the glideslope when you're not at FAF altitude. It seems like it wasn't an issue with this approach but occasionally with an ILS, you can get a false glideslope. Awesome to see how operations in a new plane though!
Thanks for the offer. We actually stopped for lunch @ KODO on our way back from Florida a couple weeks ago. They remodeled the Texas Burger and it was great!
Cool video. Love seeing the actual IMC. Curious if it get confusing seeing the runway on the synthetic vision and the LOC needle at the same time? I could see myself bouncing between the two.
If I ever get my license I think I'd prefer to fly IFR because you have folks watching your back and though this may seem more stressful to some I think most would prefer this sort of flying, just my opinion though..
Nice avionics setup. I love that JPI. Quick question, what is the antenna on top of the cowl infront of the windscreen? Is that for a GDL 84 for ADS-B?
Hello. No, that is the #2 GPS antenna. It should have been mounted on the top of the fuselage but the installer wanted to avoid the paperwork for penetrating the pressure vessel. I would have done it differently.
Bumpy, In/Out of IMC and deciding to hand flying the approach definitely a glutton for punishment on that one, BUT good job... We all tend to rely on automation too much, we all need to hand fly a few approaches now and then!! Thanks for reminding us...
Love your videos but have question for you. I have noticed you don’t fly with strobes on. I was curious why you don’t leave them on (other than night in IMC)?
Hello. I was never taught to use the strobes during the day and I'm not sure they really make a difference in direct sunlight. I guess it couldn't hurt.
Malibu Flyer seems fair enough. The FARs do say that you can turn them off (91.209) but I think they do implies that the FAA wants them on when you can. I had just noticed that it seemed part of your flow and as someone always trying to learn was just looking for a reason. Happy flying and keep the videos coming!
I noticed that you climb full rich which consumes almost 40 gph. I was taught to go from full (climb) power to cruise climb power as soon as practical, and cruise climb would be "35, 25, 25" meaning 35" MP, 2500 RPM and 25 gph FF. As far as I can tell my instructor was absolutely right. There seems to be no benefit in burning 40gph vs. 25. Everything is running cool enough and 14 gph saved means 7 gallons over a period of half an hour of climb. Was he wrong in your opinion?
In my opinion, yes. In the Malibu, you climb with full power and mixture full rich. Otherwise, you'll cook your cylinders. As a practice, you should never let your CHT's go above 380º.
Nice looking panel...technology is great. I use to fly the MD-11 which was all glass and loved every minute of it. When we flew into China everything there was in meters...which was one button push...easy. The only mental calculations needed was converting their ground winds from "meters per second" to our MPH.
Hi Rodney. Good question. In addition to being assigned a 190º heading at 8:30, I was also given the ELVIS4 departure with the STWOO transition which has me intercept the MEM 188 radial to STWOO which put me on a ~190º heading.
With ceilings below IFR mins what do you plan to do if there is a serious problem? You cannot land at the airport you are leaving. Don’t understand why you would even try to leave in that kind of weather. Look at what just happened to a PA 28 Arrow in Atlanta in similar conditions.
@@MalibuFlyer The ceiling was right at minimums, the visibility was below. He's getting it from the atis at memphis 200 and 1/4 . minimums at memphis are 200 and 1/2. And please don't edit videos while you're supposed to be piloting the airplane.
Why don’t you have track up on you pfd rather than north up? Orientation is much easier when your aeroplane symbol is moving in the direction you are going
Hello. My airplane symbol does move in the direction I'm going... With north up, I can instantly reference my direction. Track up leaves me confused. :} I guess it's a matter of preference
At the end of the video, getting to see you greet your daughter was the highlight of the video. You could see the joy on her face getting to see her dad. PRICELESS.
That was a fantastic learning video for me. I appreciate the effort and time you put into these videos. I think you're a pretty darn good pilot.
Breaking out on top never gets old. One of my very favorite parts of flying. You can’t help but feel special and sorry for the people on the ground. Enjoy your videos.
THANK YOU for the detail and comments you put into your IFR / IMC videos. I'm in the middle of my IR training and it's really helpful!
Welcome to Tennessee :-) I live in Tennessee and have no idea what that guy said. Graceland is worth seeing. Nice to see a low ifr departure out of KMEM
Excellent. You have the gift of putting me in the pilots seat again......views are excellent........
Nice job, flying on top was really beautiful. Thanks for sharing your video.
I just wanted to say thank you for the level of detail that you are showing as you fly. It helps me so much to understand my instrument training. Keep up the great work!
Great video, I particularly enjoy listening to your thought processes as things occur during the flight....
Peter Smith SO AGREE!!
Great video! thanks for the virtual ride along
The glass in your airplane is amazing. What a difference it makes for SA. Even the ForeFlight with the plane on the plate is an amazing add to the approach. Happy flying!!
Hi (from France)
Your channel is a really nice discovery
Thank you

new subscriber here and I love your videos they make me feel like I'm there with you on the flight deck awesome Thank You
Just wanted to thank you for your great contribution to GA with your videos!! Keep up the great work it’s greatly appreciated!👍👍

loved the ending smile. warms a dads heart
Thanks for the great IFR Departure and that is what is all about getting my Instrument rating
Love watching you fly my dream plane. Currently flying a PA28-236. Keep it up.
Great video hand flying but the best part the last 5 seconds of the video. My daughter lives far away don't see her much either.
I couldn't agree more...
I always loved the Malibu and didn't know this channel existed! Aaaaaaaand SUBBED!
Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for taking us along!

Nice flight - how long between the two cities ? Thanks for sharing - The piper malibu is the best single engine !!
Great job

Filter that prop! No Elvis plane B roll? Yanking the chain :). Nice video!
Very nice video. I like the way you talk to yourself. Something I am guilty of. Where you able to see Greystone airport on your way in to Ocala?
Love the taxi timer
My house (thus me) is 6 miles on the approach to KOCF rwy 36. I kept trying to spot my house but it was way too cloudy. Great video though.
Another good one. Enjoyed it.

Hi Paul. I always take off with 1 notch (10 degrees) of flaps.

dude that Garmin is top knotch.

nice landing!!!
Great flight and even a greater ending. I have a question. Do you use the FPV at all on the approach or are you concentrating solely on the needles?
Hello. I typically align the needles first then fly the FPV primarily while double-checking the needles.
nice panel!

Well.....
If it’s ever too bad.....
Ya got a place to stay!!!
It’s ALWAYS bumpy hand flying ;)
Fox3 JetWarbirds
Ain’t that the truth, I never get smooth air whenI decide to hand fly an approach...
The river fog around memphis is nuts sometimes.
Nice job,
Just found this channel. Great content but being from Tennessee the guy at the 15 minute mark is not indicative of all of us lol.

I fly acro even in jets, so any additional Viz really does help. In fact days like this where it’s VFR on top even more so. Another great video!
Great video! Where do you mount your panel camera?
Thank you. I have a yoke mount that was originally for an iPad.
what is the useful load of a Malibu? I fly a Cherokee Six currently.
Mine is 1328 lbs.
It doesn’t look like you armed your approach, the FD wasn’t giving proper steering commands for the ILS. Good video though, thanks for sharing.

what happens if you lose that engine at 500 ft agl?
