Wow! That was too close for comfort. Thank you for sharing that specific length of video. It is an incredible example of how easy it is to get into an incursion situation at a large, unfamiliar airport. Fantastic job of getting on the bakes before the controller recognized the problem. The aviation community is best served by examples that good pilots like you are willing to share with the rest of us! I really appreciate your channel and your beautiful aircraft.

As a non-pilot, (passed ground school test, very few hours in left seat) I find I learned MORE from this type of video than some instructional videos, because this was a "real" flight in progress with real issues arising as they came about along the route. The pilot simply stated what the issue was, and explained it briefly w/out explaining the issue to death. Points of interest in this video: talking to ATC, IFR issues, real Wx issue problems and solutions w/ATC, descent and dealing w/other traffic via ATC instructions and finally ground work and staying ahead of a distracted ATC controller and failure consequences briefly explained. Loved this video for keeping it real. Other instructional videos are very good too, but I like the real time experience in addition.

First of your videos I have watched. This airport taught me the lesson back in the 70’s to better job of knowing location of FBO and basic taxiways. First time I flew in was at dusk and got so lost that when I finally made it to FBO, I was tired and nervous and a little upset at not being prepared. I locked the keys inside the aircraft by mistake so I called it a day and went to the hotel. Fueled and continued on the next morning.

If you guys we're in the Ocala area and we had the money to do it, I would love to buy the fuel to go around the field. I solo'ed my daddy's Piper Cherokee 140 when I was 17, then I flew with my Father in Law (at that time) then when the both of them sold theirplanes I kind of got out of it. But I'm trusting the Master to get back into flying again. Anyway, it's so wonderful to watch God's People and see the Lord all over them. Blessings Bishop Keith And Jeanette Kirby.

You do a nice job. I have a suggestion regarding ATC and deviations. When you request them, request left or right deviations only. No need to estimate how many degrees you need. If ATC has a restriction in mind, they’ll tell you. If you only say “left deviations for weather”, you can adjust whatever you need without calling them again. I find it easier than trying to figure out how much of a deviation you need, the trying to get back in when you realize you may need more. Hopefully that makes sense, and I’m sure you probably already knew that, but I figured I’d throw it out there.

I would have filed a NASA report for that runway incursion.

Hi Steven. Technically, there was no incursion as I was able to come to a full stop just before the hold short line and received a clearance to cross in order to make the turnaround. Are you saying I should have still filed one?

@@MalibuFlyer I agree even though you didn't have an incursion it was still way too close, maybe filing will cause that guy to pay a little more attention next time.

@@MalibuFlyer You are completely correct, no runway incursion. NASA reports have a 10 day window to file. I follow the rule of when in doubt, file one. They don't cost anything, take a few minuets and the data collected helps focus training.

You might want to stay ahead of the Aircraft. Have your ILS, Tower and Ground Freq. in well BEFORE You Land!

You didn't do anything wrong. Foreflight could have helped you find the FBO and warn you of the approaching runway. Ground guy tried to screw you over like an examiner. I thought it was strange he asked you to keep speed up for a G-ride behind you, on the ground.

At lunch and at midnight Memphis is one of the busiest airports in the world. Had Fedex been launching they would have ate you up. You were totally not prepared and at fault for not having a airport diagram and familiarize yourself with the layout. You fly a nice complex aircraft but don't know how to find your way to the barn. One of my instructors once told me you have to fly yourself all the way to the barn, just because you land doesn't mean your done!
