That owner seemed like a genuinely awesome guy. It was cool to see him coach you. He knew you had the skill set, but saw you were a bit rusty and a little nervous to fly his plane. He was a great teacher and you were an excellent student. It is enjoyable and encouraging to see people get back in the saddle again. Hopefully, you'll be able to left seat in your own plane soon.
Already the way he talked inspired a calming confidence.
Flying a new plane always makes me nervous lol
Yep...the owner is an excellent and thoughtful communicator. Very impressive. Another great video episode👍
Well said sir 🙂
Ditto that.
Great to see 9090J in such great hands. Paul has same enthusiasm for the Malibu that kept my father smiling behind that yoke for 30+ years. Thanks for sharing. It brings back a lot of fond memories.
Thanks Mark. I love that your dad still checks in with me once in a while. He should be coming up on 50 years as an incident free pilot soon. Surely we can find a way to celebrate with him in the left seat.
Awesome plane Paul! If you ever need someone to jump and go for a fly I am your guy! I am about to start working on my pilots license and live in north Texas. I'd love to see this thing!
You were very lucky to have such a beautiful airplane in your family. I'm jealous!!
Mark, I don’t really know you, but know you’re Dad, a long time! What a great man, and happy to hear Paul’s RUclips comments on Bernie. Soo happy to see 90J’s new home.👍
Your dad is an awesome guy Mark
Not sure if the owner of the plane is a CFI or has been in the past but he would make a good one, very patient and great demeanor
100% agree, he's definitely got the stuff to be a CFI
Michael Lloyd
That information is available to the public via the FAA airman database. Paul Dube holds a Private Pilot certificate with Single Engine class and an instrument rating. He also holds a Ground Instructor Certificate, issued in 2013.
It is clear from what I’ve seen on this video that he would make an excellent CFI-A. I don’t think it would be difficult for him to obtain the Commercial and CFI certificates if he were motivated to do so.
I had a CFI but some penicillin cleared it up after about 10 days.
I also think that if you have been flying your whole life and you reach a certain age, you learned how to cope with things and develop a chill attitude to everything naturally.
Ive been flying for 35 yrs and I am no way that calm..he is a hell of a good pilot.
*"Next time you were just sick."*
Great dad.
The owner is a genuinely awesome guy! Have known him for several years and he’s always that patient and willing to let others fly left seat with him...
Now that’s a competent pilot. Great situational awareness. I liked the casual way he just went into his takeoff briefing while just carrying on conversation. Great crew communication skills as well. He’s the kind of pilot we all want to be someday. Great video!
I took care of that aircraft from 1987 to 2017 when it was sold. I replaced all the de ice boot and replaced 4 engines and alot of other things. It is the best one it there. Your wolcome
I'm sure you love having an aircraft owner who spares no expense to keep his baby in top condition. Four engines in 30 years; did the previous owner fly a lot, or replace engines because he wanted top reliability?
that's alotta engines
@@SuperPhunThyme9 Lol was thinking the same
Travis Ryno that’s not really a lot for 30 years. Airplane engines have to be replaced after a few thousand hours. Usually somewhere between 1,500 to 3,000. It’s why airplane ownership is so expensive. Sometimes you can buy a cheap used airplane and spend %50 of your purchase price when it comes time for a new engine a few years later.
Preston Arnold you only have to swap engines if you are part 135. If you are part 91 you never have to change an engine.
That took me back to 1980! Got my license fly out of Modern Aero in 1980. {I still call it Red Bird} I haven't flown in many moons, so I now fly with you and others on RUclips. Thank you sir!!
Wish I had this Malibu, not the crusty Chevy Malibu parked in back.
R. Daniels that’s what I was like when I heard malibu
LOL Yeah, mee too.
I lived in Malibu before the democrat scum took over...
Wow, beautiful plane. I have always loved the Malibu. Goals. Really nice guy too, turning the left seat over to you. You did great.
While building time, back in the 80’s, I worked at an FBO. A regular customer was a company that flew bodies. We had an old man working there, who was extremely superstitious and would leave work, when he saw the hearse pull in, lol! He had worked there so long, he could get away with leaving I guess, but it terrified him. The also had a 182, and two bigger planes. They offered me a job at one point, flying the 182. Reasoning I didn’t need time that bad, I quickly declined. Thanks to Paul for sharing time with this beautiful Malibu ! I love those airplanes and this is among the nicest ! 🇺🇸🛫
Nice work, Bobby. You still got it. Paul was very generous with his plane, his coaching, and bought lunch, too? Too cool!
He sounds like a patient guy, taking two years of constant searching (and several aborted attempts) to find that plane. That's a lesson in and of itself!
Thanks for sharing.
Another great video! Owner seemed like a genuine nice guy and knew his aircraft very well. Also cool to see you in the left seat for this one! hope to see you flying more in the future!
That brings back memories. I believe this model is the first plane I had an opportunity to ride in, the first for a long-distance flight and the first that we lost all electrical at night on a long flight. Just loads of fun. Back when I was a kid of 18, and a friend and his family wanted to fly from Michigan to Florida and back. I did not realize at the time how nice that plane was.
Great to see you in the left seat, Bobby! Awesome airplane, Paul seemed like a very competent pilot. It obvious he's been in a plane his entire life.
Great story there. The Malibu was my dream airplane back in the 80's. Somehow it still is now. An all time classic beauty.
THAT- is a good looking airplane!
Really good episode, Bobby. Paul is such a cool guy, and he has one of my dream airplanes. The fellow that sold him the plane made the right choice, for sure. His baby is safe with Paul. Plus, *left seat’! Good to see! Also, It was reassuring to see you as nervous as I would have been! I just love the Malibu! Thanks for this one.
I'm only 7 minutes in and I love this guy. So calm and clearly so passionate about this plane. His love of this plane and this hobby really pulls me in, I genuinely want to hang out with him.
Very cool to see you sitting on the left side Bobby. Nice job. Thanks for sharing.
What a great aircraft, the series and this one in particular. Nice landing.
Cool plane, cool pilot! You know your a good pilot when you have the confidence to coach someone down for their first landing on an unfamiliar airframe. Seems like he would make a good instructor.
I agree with many positive comments about the owner. Talk about letting someone fly in the left seat reminds me of a day back in college when a fellow student invited me and a buddy of mine to go flying. He had just gotten his pilot's license and as a side note, he was a big guy with many added pounds for good measure. My friend was also a big guy, maybe 6'3" 260 lbs. Between the two of them, I think 500 lbs total was a conservative guess.
They sat in the front of a typical small high wing airplane, while I sat in the back and cracked up because they were so big their shoulders met. But, after cruising around for a while the new pilot asked my buddy if he wanted to fly the plane and he said yes, of course. He took the controls and after some coaching and settling down, he was able to keep the plane "pretty steady" for over half an hour he was flying it. It was now time to go back to the airport, so the pilot talked the newbie down and I thought he was going to let him get close to the airport then take over. Not the case, he committed to guiding the "pilot" into making a landing! That's when I got a little nervous. I didn't say anything, my friend didn't seem to show any signs of panic, nor did he decline the offer to land the plane either. I think he held his nerves together being an ex-police officer.
I remember the airport approach pretty clearly and this happened 50 years ago. Actually, the pilot in "training" kept the airplane on course with not a lot of disturbance, fortunately, there was no wind and the actual pilot was coaching him calmly and correcting him at the same time. From my perspective, as we got close to landing I thought we were going too fast and when we did touch down it was a heavy hit and one bounce before the plane settled down. I thought because of the hard-hit and the passenger payload, we might have popped a tire but that didn't happen. We all shouted out after we got on the ground and I patted my buddy on the back for not killing me. I thought it was a bad idea, to begin with, but a really bad idea to let someone who has never touched a yoke land the damn thing.
Paul's a cool guy.... with a sweet Malibu !!
Yes to both!

Is it possible to convert the to Jet a1 fuel or diesel ??
Now That was a very nice aircraft indeed! It seemed to be a perfect fit for its' owner and he was a lucky man to have found and purchased it from the guy who took very good care of it for all of those early years! Thanks Bernie!
Excellent video. This specific plane was awesome. I loved Paul's due diligence in researching and ultimately purchasing this specific aircraft. I know he's extremely proud of his selection.
Great flight. The two of you were awesome together. Betcha you had fun!
Awesome! I think you’ve really hit the right amount of questions, information, and interactions with the pilots and their planes! Love this channel. Should have over 100K subscribers!
Really nice plane! Thanks to the owner for sharing. Thanks to Bobby for the video.
I'm having Fun binge-watching the last 6 or so, Flying Doodles RUclips Videos, they're all Great! All of us arm-chair/downtime pilots at home appreciate it. It was good to see you 'Captain Bob' in this Beautiful Malibu Airplane (with a little help from the 'Cool Owner of this Airplane). Thank You and keep up the Great Work, and as always, A Big Thumbs UP!
It's awesome to see you in the left seat! Thanks for taking your time to bring us another fantastic video with a sweet plane and a good owner.
The owner looks like a really nice man. Good flying, Bobby!
My introduction to private flying was in Larry Grant's 4319M, the first customer delivered '85 Malibu on a family vacation from Watsonville CA to Puerto Vallata ( non stop) 4 adults 1 child. He's the original owner and still flying that great aircraft! Have to agree, the best single engine aircraft! Happy flying!
I remember reading about this plane when Pipe first came out with it. I still think it's awesome and so was this video. very well presented. Thanks
Good job Bobby, you haven’t lost your touch and a “perfect” landing.
Nice plane!!. Glad to see you seated on the "right"seat, good for you, and nice centerline landing BTW!! Again great vid man, congrats!!!
What a natural instructor/coach. Just superb
I've spent almost 18 months looking for a decent Mooney, but this video revived my long infatuation with the Malibu that I couldn't see myself affording in the early years. I went looking on Tradeaplane and elsewhere after the watching this great video and found some reasonably priced ones that may be do-able with a few partners. Who knows? Maybe the Malibu will eventually edge out my Mooney-lust :D. Nice to see you actually flying from the left seat and for the entire flight, Bobby. You did great! And kudos to the owner as well!
The owner is a kind and patient pilot. It would be good to take lessons with him. I like his logic about long term savings on fuel which could be set asside for general maintenance of the aircraft.
Good job! I fly a M350 with G1000 and I love it. This aircraft is awesome!
That sounds VERY expensive.... And awesome.
@@mincraft2254 start up saving a lot now, cirrus cost $750,000
@@mincraft2254 Good Luck!!!
I love your videos Doodles! The commentary before the flight, narrating, and editing are all great. I wish you mush success and look forward to many more videos!! Cheers
I enjoyed this presentation. Quite fond of these aircraft and also enjoy unfolding the versatility of this airframe for new and existing owners seeking recurring training. Thanks for getting the word out there. 9090J is a classic.
Michael Hemmingsen, CFI for Legacy Flight Training.
Congratulations on a left seat day. Excellent, even the landing. Paul would make an excellent instructor. With A/C and 15gph the Ma.ibu is excellent. Worth spending two years to locate
What a great guy. He let you fly his pride and joy from the left seat, and he was an excellent instructor as well. Good landing, and great video. Thanks.
Cool. This was one of my favourite planes growing up. Nice to see you in the left seat! Nice landing too.
Beautiful aircraft and with those characteristics makes it even more beautiful!
As a life long lineguy, we call this a “single engine Navajo”, that wingspan is outrageous!!
Man, do I love that 4 Blade Prop upgrade ! and what a sweet Glass Panel Package too !!!
Personally, I prefer steam gauges, they are just easier for me to read in day VFR. But I looooove a nice glass cockpit, and this certainly checks that box!
Very kind of the gentleman to share such a beautiful aircraft!
Awesome job Bobby! I’m normally a c210 guy for a fast 6 seat. But that’s a nice bird and pressurized! Love these videos, getting to see different makes and models with an owners interview.
What an incredible piece of machine and man. 30 years on this plane looks amazing. The love and dedication show through from both former and current owners. Thanks for sharing 👍
😊

Enjoyed hanger talk
I was 6 when my dad took his soon to be 1st AP (piper tripacer) for test run with me in the back.
Thanks for sharing
Great flight of a beautiful aircraft. Good seeing you in the left seat. Shalom my brother Shalom.
That Malibu is a dream, the right engine, the right mods.... almost as the one I dream to get some day. Thanks for the ride.
Excellent video! Thank you for sharing! What a great plane and story behind it.
Very nice plane and a very patient and generous owner.
Thanks for another great flying video !!! We get to see a lot of different types of planes on your channel !!! Thanks again, Bobby !!!
This one ticked all the boxes for a great flying video. Super.
What a sweet ride & thanks for insight on the Garmin 1000
Beautiful plane and great video as always 👍🏼
What a great gentlemen and professional. Outsanding!
Great job Bobby. Good to see you back in the saddle again.
The owner seems to be a very nice guy. A good one to fly with.
Thank you both for this video.
Great flying out there. Awesome Video‼️
I am a beginner student pilot; on the much "older" side; I wish I have him as the instructor; it would be awesome; very confident, seems very knowledgeable and excellent demeanour
Beautiful aircraft and a very nice video thanks for the flight.
Another great airplane for your log book, loved every moment of your video.
Great episode! Great plane and good to see you flying.
I’ve always thought this was the sexiest piston cabin class plane on the ramp. So cool to see the inside and I loved the under belly mount to see how fast it is over the ground. Blazing
Talk about a calming individual. 😎 If he's not already he would be a great CFI. Very nice plane.
its such a nice plane and good learning mate to have in flight training...thanks for sharing such an amazing video
This was such a pleasure to watch.
Mark Brown, you hit all the right notes with your comment.
Long time Sailing Doodles fan and FINALLY found you here, in my second passion. Great video and very informational.
Got my private ticket back in the early 80's. Clearly remember the Malibu being featured in/on the front cover of Flying magazine. This plane was an absolute dream for this young wide eyed pilot. Great video and 100% agree with comments regrading the owner.
Great video, great airplane and great destination - my wife and I used to fly to Dallas Executive at least a couple times a month to eat at Delta Charlie’s - great food and lots of fun. Keep making these awesome videos, I love them all. Dave from Granbury TX.
Phenomenal. So good to see you in the left seat Bobby !
NICE I like seeing an owner that puts you in the right (correct) seat! BAM!
YES I've been waiting on a malibu doodle. Great ep
Sounds like u and that plane were meant to be, the fuel economy is amazing. Thanks for the video
Worked for Piper 73 to 86,did all control surface rigging on Malibu's,great aircraft.

What a class act was the owner of that plane. Great video too!
SUPER VLOG...nice flying!
Great to see you in the left seat again. Love the vids
Very smooth, you are a good pilot!
Very nice flow.
I love this aircraft. I'm shopping for 1st one. Was sold on the SR22. Trained in Piper Cherokee, which led me to this. I'm starting to lean strongly this direction.
Great video, and beautiful Malibu
Piper Malibu is an excellent aircraft, but I don't know about being the best 6 seater... I think the A-36 Bonanza would also be a contender for that spot!
I’ll be good to see you flying again thanks for sharing the video keep having fun and have a great day
Nice flying, Bobby!!!
Nicely done Bobby!
Bobby, that was so cool, watchin you fly left seat! Good on you Man!
Im glad to see you flying buddy 😁💪🏽💪🏽
Absolutely gorgeous Piper!
Great to see you flying again, Bobby.
Man, from sailing to flying. You sure keep them videos coming. Subbed for sure
For sure the Malibu is my favorite single engine piston aircraft! It is a true cabin class aircraft.
Cool flying guys. And the Lunch... you made me hungry. 🤗
