My 2021 Desk Setup - M1 Mac Mini

- Here is my 2021 Desk Setup. I took the plunge into this setup once the M1 Macs were released at the end of 2020. I was using 2 Macs prior....a 2015 15" MacBook Pro and a 2017 27" iMac. Both served me really well but the updates with Apple silicon were too powerful to pass up. So here we are!
Below I'll have links to all the items I got for this setup.

Have you taken the plunge and bought a M1 Mac yet? What do you think so far?
Nope. Let me me preface that I am a senior tech at Apple. I think they are great machines(some issues because they are first gen that make em a headache for me) but whilst I have a ton of work supplied gear(and Apple does not skimp with it's employees) I do purchase my own personal use stuff and i have a 2013 Imac quad core i7 with 32 gigs of ram and a 2 tb ssd(that total cost and upgrades, I am out 1700 usd which means I am out 212 bucks a year) it is stuck on Catalina but it is driving 1 32 inch curved display, its own Screen and connected to a 4k display(res does not get up, but I got a good deal). Docs say it does not support 32 gigs, but it works in mine.
I do not do music. But I run it is a Plex server, and I can stream HD video to the apple tv in the living room, in my mothers room, and my wife can watch a video in our bedroom while I am fooling around on the web and working in various Adobe products. That being said I am only about 35% use of the resources, and you have to consider that Plex is transcoding on the fly.)
I want a new Mac, and I can get one cheap. But I need 32 gigs of ram to future proof me. 16 will not cut it. Nor will me having to buy a dongle for extra screens. And honestly my 8 year old mac runs like a scalded dog. It is hard for me to justify the money Apple gives me to buy a new machine when my old one runs so well.
BUT. Your video is awesome, and your set up is envious. I have a similar one but I love your desk.
The good thing though is we are bringing back more ports. But keep up the good work, great vid.
@@normitos Thank you! If the machine works, that's what is important.
@Alfredo Zachary Interesting! I'll need to check it out
@Ian Patrick What do you think of it?
I love the adjustable desk height - can you drop a link to buy it?? Thanks
This video is so satisfying that I felt the whole time as if my own desk was being set up.
I appreciate that! It took some time but it was worth it in the end!
You sound very calm and smooth, I like it already!
Glad you like it!
Really enjoyed you showing us the setup process and not just the final setup.
I appreciate it! I figured actually showing how things went down would help some people!
I liked how instead of showing what's in the desk, you showed how you set it up as well. :) Enjoy working at that desk!
Thanks! I figured working through it would help some people for sure.
Now thats what i call a good quality content , Love from 🇮🇳 INDIA
Thank you
Look good going to check that monitor out. Now you need mini desktop speakers and you are set for now, cause we never stop building our work station. Cool video keep on making video all the best 👍
Can't wait!
Wow, this was a super duper cool set up vid. I love your taste in Samsung monitor and Mac Mini.
Hey, thanks!
Love the music in the background! Really good video.
Thanks I appreciate it!
I loved the desk map so cool
Thanks!
Dope video bro.
We have a lot of the same accessories/lights, and I set mine up around the same time... a few months after I got my M1 Mini.
I chose 2 Benq EW2780U monitors with the same brand's double monitor mounts. The double stand is really cool, I like to run one of my monitors vertically when I'm doing information-intensive work.
Awesome! Great minds think alike! Sounds like a solid setup
Can I give a massive YES to you for using the trackpad and mouse together, if people haven't tried that out yet it is a game changer !
Everyone that has an at home set up should try it out, I bought the old generation trackpad for 50 bucks and it works great😎
I couldn't agree with you more! My video editing workflow has benefited a lot from being able to scrub the time line and adjust the zoom. It's changed a lot for me!
@@KelalaSeichi I see this is the only tech video on the channel are you going to keep making more?
@josh jay Yup I intend to put out a lot more. Probably reviewing some items I use for content creation and tips for using them. Here's a playlist of other things I've reviewed. Let me know what you think! Thanks! ruclips.net/p/PLgP7bgUxRBs0nLssl0j_GCgl9RJrjvTja
Two thumbs up on a job well done - the desk set up and the video! Gave me some great ideas for my new Mac Mini/MacBook Air/iPad Pro '21 setup.
Let me know how it turns out!
Nice set up and very nice video 👍👍👍👍
Thanks really appreciate it!
loved the video mate, was searching for something like this since a long time
Thanks I appreciate it! Took a while to build but really enjoying it
Great Video! Gives me cozy vibes. Im personally still deciding between the Mac Mini and the new iMac 24 inch. :)
Thanks! I'd say depending on what you'd be using the Mac for, maybe wait to see what the replacement for the 27" iMac becomes. Could be a 30" iMac?? Just rumors but it's coming!
Very clean setup brotha using it as inspiration for mine ! Subbed !
Thanks for the sub!
Great vid and set up mate. I went with base M1 Mac Mini and I reckon it is awesome. Does all that I need. Maybe upgrade in the future, but for now it's great. Love your desk and I am thinking of getting one myself.
Thanks! Happy you went with the M1 Mini, it'll serve you well!
I like your setup... I just something similar. Only thing missing is a MUST for me is a UPS! Protect your computer investment.
Great investment for sure!
Love showing the removal and install process-giving me Marie Kondo zen vibes~
Thanks I appreciate it!
Great job. I recently moved to the M1 Mac Mini and completely rebuilt my desk set up. Video tour in the works. I've ordered a Vesa mount and I'm going to mount the Mac Mini on a monitor arm hidden behind one of my monitors for an even cleaner desk.
That'll be an sweet setup
@@KelalaSeichi turned out I couldn't get that set up to work, so I screwed the mount to the underside of the desk. Now the Mac Mini is completely hidden, leaving my desk fairly clear
That sounds awesome, can’t wait for the video
Nice desk setup man! 💯👍💪
Thanks alot I appreciate it!
@@KelalaSeichi You’re welcome man. 👍💪
Nice setup. Go bills
Go Bills!
Bro, your setup is 👌🏾! This video has been super helpful as I'm in the market for a new desktop. I currently have an iMac '27 (late 2013) and it's time for an upgrade. I'm a grad student, so my computer needs are mostly for writing and reading, with the occasional RUclips rabbit holes while I'm procrastinating -- which is how I found your video. I was debating between buying the M1 Mac Mini and all of its accessories or waiting for the larger iteration of the M1 iMac (and who knows when that's dropping). I tend to be indecisive with big purchases, so seeing your setup helped eliminate the stress of selecting the "right" monitor and accessories. Thank you!
Thanks for the commet! I'm happy this brought some clarity on what to get. I was confused myself but it worked out! Let me know if there's anything else I can help with
Wow absolutely love this setup! Had to get that monitor stand ASAP. Also, where is that wallpaper from in the end? So sleek I love it!
That wallpaper is default with MacOS Big Sur! Were you able to find a stand that worked?
Great video! You deserve more views
Thanks a lot! Hoping for more!
I got the base model Mac mini also. It's my first Mac, and I love it so far!
Congrats on the purchase, it'll serve you well!
Is 8gb good enough? Im using a 16gb macbook pro and afraid 8gb might not be enough when using multiple apps
Have the same, monitor, monitor arm, Mac mini, keyboard, mouse and trackpad. Thtas for productivity work, for gaming I have a nuc hades!. so great gear man!!! cheers
Cheers!
Awesome video! I’m planning on buying a Mac mini but on a budget and I was wondering do I have to have the Apple track pad to set it up?
Yes I do use the apple trackpad along with a mouse. Gives me easy access to my other desktops
So calm and cozy!
Thanks! It's been great to work on
Nice clean setup. I just re-did my desk after years of using an L-shaped configuration. I find a more minimalistic feel using flat against the wall and cord management is a breeze. Keep it up.
Nicely done! sorry but... what keyboard is that?
I've checked back on Amazon and it appears they dont sell it anymore. This is the keyboard I've since upgraded to: amzn.to/3EFLIf7
Solid video, thanks for the content.
Appreciate it!
Let’s go Buffalo Bills 💪🏾🙌🏾
Bills Mafia!!!
Watched till end even though I know I can't afford. But good video bro👍👌, keep growing. Wish me too... to get one if you can.
Thanks ✌️
Really nice...question for you how did you hook up the monitor to the mini? I mean what cables are you using and which port does it go into. Just asking because I have a ASUS monitor plugged into to a PC and want to get a mac mini but want to know how to install my monitor to it. Thanks
Depends on your ASUS monitor. The Mac Mini has thunderbolt 3 ports as well as an HDMI. My monitor is a thunderbolt monitory so you're able to connect multiple devices to you and have a single cable run to the mac mini at full 40GBPS bandwidth. Both options work really well even if there are limited ports on the mac mini.

Thank you! I appreciate it!
Now that is so clean!
Thanks I appreciate it!
This is creates a vibe to really push ur self to work !!?? 👍👍👍👍🔥🔥♥️
Happy programming on your new workstation!
Thanks!
You made me buy this monitor
Let me know how you like it!
It is amazing!!!! I love it ! Thank you love yur channel :)
I love the extra distance growing channels' creators put in their videos.... I would probably have the new Mac Air or Pro in the same set up in my bedroom, and have a full spec Mac mini set up in the Office..... these M1's are next gen over every Intel Mac and pro's on the market, at a huge discount over intel... cant wait to see how intel catches up in. few years...
Competition is great for innovation! If intel can create a chip at this level it'll benefit everyone in the computing industry. These M1's for me are a gamechanger!
nice presentation mate ! I have the same setup but unfortunately I had to return the monitor within 14 days because of 3 dead pixels, hope yours is fine ! Take care 😇
That sucks about the monitor I'm hoping you found a good alternative
Totally dig the setup ✅ by the way, how’s the monitor arm holding up? I have a 34” too but the product link you provided only shows support up to 17lbs I think, right on the edge of the weight limit for 34 ultrawides
Here's the link to the stand holding my ultra wide. It's performing awesome no issues holding it. Range of weight looks like 6.6lbs to 26.4lbs. amzn.to/3y4Tf5c
@@KelalaSeichi Awesome, thank you! ✌️
I personally think that the M1 MacMini is quite cool comparing to the MacBook Air due to the fan.
That's great to hear! I'm intersted to see what comes with the 16" MacBook Pros
Kelala Seichi They might gonna get more fans than the current model
Love your music selection!!!
Thanks! I've been using a couple different places to try and not get hit with copyright dings.

Loved your simplicity while making the videos... How much in total did you pay for the setup.. 3 to 5K $?
Actually with this setup, we came in roughly around the $2000 mark!
Clean set up man
Appreciate it!
nice setup man!!
Really appreciate it!
which iphone you are using?? cool video btw
Thanks! Took some hard work but love how it turned out. I’m currently using the iPhone 11 Pro in midnight green.
did you use the mini’s HDMI port or the thunderbolt port to plug it in the monitor? and will there be a difference between the two?
I used HDMI so I had the thunderbolt ports available for a future docking station
Congrats bro. I just got my m1 Mac Mini and it's blistering fast. Just cleaned up the desk yesterday and it looking sharp. I have a Hagibis USB dock connetced too. Gonna get a SSD drive and expand the storage. You should look into that- you can add 1TB storage to to Mac mini and have it look just as sleek
That's a great idea...It does cost more to have the storage built in than just go with external. Thanks!
@@KelalaSeichi Yep! Got a 1TB on amazon for $100
Love the content bro. Subbed
Thanks for the sub!
Great instructional video. Man, Macintosh has come a long way. My first Mac was the Macintosh Classic. I went through each evolution up to the Power Mac G5. Fell in love with them. Last week I ordered the Mac Mini M1 (16GB). It will be here in a few days. Anxious to road test it. I also ordered a OWC 14-Port Thunderbolt 3 Dock. Watching your set up has helped me with regards ergonomics: The monitor on a stand and mounting the Blue Yeti (which I have) on a boom stand.
BTW, I love your computer table. Where can I find one like that?
Thank you for sharing your configuration. 🙏
So the table top is this from Ikea: www.ikea.com/us/en/p/lagkapten-tabletop-black-brown-60487017/
The standing desk is this from Amazon: amzn.to/32PcmC6
@@KelalaSeichiThank you! 🙏
Excellent video. The good thing about a mac mini is that, you get to design your own desktop set-up noticed, you have lots of none Apple, Inc. devices which, is pretty cool. I went the other direction, prefer as many of my desktop items as possible to from Apple, Inc. Own a 2010, mac mini (the last model with a built-in DVD super-drive) paired with an Apple 27-inch cinema (none thunderbolt) display which, of course includes a built-in web camera and speakers. Also, I am using an Apple white wireless keyboard and Apple white wireless magic mouse.
That sounds like a solid setup as well!
wish that moniter came in space gray... very nice though! I went with the LG Ultrafine for my son's mac mini, but i'm looking to replace my 34" curved samsung for an ultrawide soon. I want to be able to have my PS5, Windows Stream PC, and Macbook Air M1 to 1 moniter.
That sounds like an awesome setup!
Nice setup, I enjoyed the video. About the speed ramps watch some daniel schiffer, you’ll get them much more smooth. All the best!
I agree the ramps were a little rough. Work to be done for sure. Thanks!
Kelala, awesome set up. Quick question. I’m really torn between this style setup or the new M1 IMac. How much do you miss your IMac display vs this current wide screen unit? Or do you get used to it fairly quickly?
I love this widescreen setup. I have so much more real estate when I'm doing edits or having multiple windows open to do work stuff. On the topic of which to buy...its tough to say, the beauty of the iMac is that it's all in one and no need to buy a separate monitor and stand. However, if I'm thinking what's on the horizon for Apple...there will be a 30" iMac coming at some point that'll likely feature an updated version of the M1 chip. That will be a beast for sure. And again, it'll come with an amazing monitor as an all-in-one setup. For now I'm partial to the widescreen setup here. Hopefully that helps!
@@KelalaSeichi totally does! Thanks 🙏🏻 And again very slick setup!
Enjoyed very much this video Very nice setup New subscriber to your channel
Thanks for the sub! Appreciate it!
Very nice setup
Glad you think so!
Good job bro
Appreciate you
Great video!! how's the mac mini so far? looking to get one soon
I have to be honest, I have a video coming out soon talking about this. I will say that the Mac Mini was a game changer for me. The M1 chip justified me selling 2 computers I had. If you're thinking of getting it, I say do it!! You won't be disappointed. However, I personally needed some mobility. I'll be dropping the vid soon on the M1 Macbook Pro setup I now have. Thanks for watching!
Hello, I have the same monitor as you, and I am about to buy the mac mini, but I was wondering if the screen resolution gives you 3440 x 1440 and 100 Hz? With that mac?
Best regards
Yes, I've recently purchased Mac mini m1(16gb ram w/ 256gb ssd) and I have a dell 144 Hz display and yeah, it gives me 144 Hz Refresh rate with 4k resolution. Depends for what you're using it, I wouldn't suggest you to purchase it for gaming. I use it for coding, multi-tasking, streaming and some normal day-to-day stuff and it works perfectly fine and smooth for me. Also if you want it for video editing, Go for it!
I agree, this monitor has done great for me multitasking and for video editing. Really happy with it.
Ok, I appreciate you a lot for your answer. 👍🏻
Text on a Mac screen always looks sharp. How is the text rendering on the Samsung monitor? Does it appear pixelated?
So far so good for me on my monitor. There are moments where I question if it looks pixalated but then I see text on my other monitors at work and the quality is still better than older monitors I like this widescreen monitor a lot!
Woaaah just realised you only have 800 subs I thought I was watching some tech youtuber
Hopefully it helped!
I just bought the M1 Mac mini base model (faster ssd than the M2). And I had the G9 since 2022. Can you tell me which cable is best for displayport to thunderbolt?
Sweet setup!
Thanks!
Does the m1 mini work well with that ultra wide screen or do you have to drop resolution?
It's worked really well with no dropped frames. However I do not game with it just video editing and other work tasks
I cant help but come up this question, does your Mac mini has run into bluetooth connection issue with your magic KB and trackpad?
cause I am looking into upgrade my 2015 Macbook pro to M1 Mac mini
I have had zero issues with bluetooth connectivity. I know there have been some people who have experienced some issues with the 1st Gen M1 macs but I've been lucky so far. It's very much worth the upgrade!
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Can i get the information of your wireless charger ( idk what is it but so cool )

Does the charging brick come with the monitor, if not what’s the brand and item number?
Yes the charging brick is including thankfully. amzn.to/3ngWqlw
Great setup, but why are most Desk Setups lacking a wrist rest? They really help your wrists, when you work (or play games) for a longer period of time on a computer
That is a really great point! I've been considering one for a while just haven't pulled the trigger yet!

Yes you can! I've found a link to apple support on that topic...support.apple.com/en-us/HT204592
My man, how about to buy cf791 late 2018th or 2019th edition second hand 2 y.o.? External monitor for MBA M1?

Would love a review of the monitor. How do you find using a non retina screen? What refresh rate are you running the monitor at? If it’s 100hz, is there a noticeable positive change vs 60 hz? Thanks.
I'll consider a long term review of the monitor. It's been great so far!
@@KelalaSeichi I'm using it as well. Love the design but the fonts are a little unsharp when connected to my M1 Macbook Pro. Do you have the same issue?
I would never sell my mid-2015 MacBook Pro 15s (the ‘57 Chevy of classic Macs). I am currently shopping for a 2017 iMac 27 (the ‘59 Caddy Coupe Deville)
it's an amazing machine there is no doubt there! In my opinion, never give that thing up! As I'm watching what Apple is doing with the new macbooks, it appears they're going right back to that design!
Great video. Maybe a little slow paced., but well done.
Thanks for the feedback!
hi I wanted to ask a question, which one do you think is a better purchase. A 38 inch lg wn95c connected to a 2018 macboook or the new 8 core imac.
I’m not gonna lie I’m a huge fan of the M1 macs so diving into the new iMacs might be a better choice depending on your workload. However, I’d be patient and wait to see what the new rumored 30” iMac’s turn out to be before pulling the trigger. Might be some sweet surprises there!
@@KelalaSeichi mmm yeah I agree with you. For now I wanna. get a Shure sm7b and just connect. it to my Mac before I pull the trigger on an iMac later on

Is 8 gb ram enough, what application do you use?
I use Premiere Pro as my heavy lifting video editing app. A few others in the Adobe suite. 8 GB actually isn't bad to be honest. However, I moved over to a 16 GB M1 MacBook Pro recently. Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/HkER3MyQXU8/видео.html

Can use Logitech MK235 combo for M1 Mac Mini?
(I bought M1 Mac mini last week but 1 need choose affordable kb & mise)
(MK235's Command , control , function key's shortcuts n tips work properly in mac os???)
I believe you'll get the majority of MacOS functionality with the MK235 but their might be some quirks that might not. I believe the command/control/function keys should work but I'm not 100% sure what wouldn't work. I currently use the MX Keys from Logitech and it works flawlessly with MacOS on the M1 MacBook Pro!
how do you deal with text looking blurry af on non-4k displays with Macs? I went through 4 different ultra wides before settling on a regular 4k which solved the issue. It has something to do with antialiasing being turned off post Mojave.
I will say that this 4k ultrawide has not been blurry at all with regards to text or images. I have MacOS Big Sur as of right now.

I've purchased my first-ever iPad with the M1 and am loving it. I was originally saving for the 14" macbook pro to replace my 13" pro, but got antsy when they didn't announce anything concrete at WWDC. I'm considering selling the macbook pro now and getting a mac mini as the iPad really handles all of my portability needs anyway. I keep going back and forth on my monitor though - from LG 21:9 (3440x1440) to LG 16:9 (4k) and back...I just don't know which screen size I prefer. Something about the "crispness" on the 4k I really enjoy, and don't find myself utilizing the extra space on the 21:9 all that often anyway - as most of the windows I view are placed dead center (in the space that the 16:9 would fit anyway).
I hear you there. If you don't need the added real estate, then I'd say save that money for something else and go with the smaller 4k monitor. The M1 mac mini will be a great match with that!
Question: I saw the link for the “microphone stand.” But, what type of microphone can I attach to this unit 🧐
It's pretty versatile...I'm using the Blue Yeti USB Mic and there's a 1/4" thread on the arm that fits that mic. Most mics out there will be compatible with a 1/4" thread if not they also came with an adapter for smaller threads. Hope that helps!
