I have to admit that this is one of the most realistic model railway layouts I have seen. I would love to film it one day if not take part in this exciting operation of this model layout. I love the BNSF trains. Thanks to John Parker for this masterpiece. Respect from Ireland.
VERY impressive layout -- I love the use of modern technology in manifesting, communications, signaling, etc. Obviously takes way more money than usual, but a beautifully done, interesting layout
You do have a great Large HO layout. It is one of the best I have seen on RUclips. Excellent video and would love to operate on it. Mike HO from Australia
An absolutely fantastic model railroad. Everything about this layout is first class from the design, to the construction, and to the end result. John Parker has taken model layout design and operation to the next level. Thank you for an informative video. Five stars! Mike Armstrong
Wow! Incredible layout! Love how serious you guys take this. This isnt just a hobby. You can actually learn something. Man, you put some MONEY into this layout! How much do you think you've invested in this layout to date?
Howzit : I was privileged to visit JP's Layout during the 2017 Narrow Gauge Convention ( Denver ) and to this day; I remain in awe and admiration for what has been achieved; a truly and completely overwhelming experience ! 🤙 PS : As a MR-er of many decades; I have no shame to admit that I got pleasantly LOST during the visit and am certain I was not the first and will not be the last ! 😁
Excellent and Fantastic Operation. Above and Beyond!!! 20 to 22 operators, that’s got to be a lot of pizza and beverages!! Yes, lots of inspiration to make any of your sidings a gem on any layout.
THIS is what makes model railroading the "World's Greatest Hobby" indeed ! Utterly SUPERB the fantastic imagination that went into this every man's dream layout professionally run during operations. It must be overwhelming to behold such a masterpiece, BRAVO !!! Brilliantly executed indeed !!
BNSF Is my favorite RR, I’ve seen several people video your model rail road, this is the first time I think you personally talked about your RR, beautiful layout, design, detail, practicality, I would love to come and just watch the trains run, during a session 🙏🏽❤️❤️🙏🏽
I love this layout I’m going to build the same thing like is layout UP and BNSF and CP/KCS my layout is go to be Texas and Los Angeles California it’s going to be ho scale
Outstanding layout. John, your layout is my all time favorite. Bill, The Track Planner, made my track plan and mentioned your layout to me during the design process my track plan.
Holy cow, I have seen some huge layouts but they were cramped and too busy. This is next level compared to everything else I have seen. The time and money spent must be staggering.
Mr. Parket, this is the most impressive layout I have ever seen. I was wondering if BNSF or UP, ask you to start the training process for new operators. I worked on the old Penn Central during a summer college job. The railroad never left my DNA. I will recommend this layout whoever expresses interest in the railroad as a career. I teach as a Sub in Chicago area, and a lot of kids are looking for alternatives for work. If they see this and maybe a similar layout, might pique their interest. WELL DONE.
Thank you TCG and John for the tour. This is an amazing layout. John said it best. You need the resources and skills to manage a large operating crew, volunteers, and the construction.
Just when you think you have seen some fantastic railroads, you guys arrive with this, OH MY WORD this is something else words fail me. The software, electronics, cctv, dispatch setup. I would love to know how you get the announcements to work. Not to mention the scenary and bridges are beautifully done. Take a bow guys this is pure genius 👍👍

Just listened to you on the "Around The Layout" podcast and had to come see what a mushroom layout was. Definitely not what I had pictured in my mind. Great video of a most impressive layout.. Most clubs I've been to have nothing on this one.
WOW John I am really impressed. I saw the layout progress several times years ago and now it has evolved way beyond what I saw previously. It is astounding. Great video.
Wonderful layout. Well measured and constructed layout representing modern railroading. Thanks to the John’s for bringing it to us. Tim from Perth, Australia.
Wow!! Thanks so much for this video. It's amazing to see a model railroad of this size. Everything is so well thought out. Love the long runs they are absolutely beautiful.
Having had the honor to see this layout three times including once operating on it, I have to assert that this is the hallmark of model railroad grand style to me. John and his gang have created a stunning example of just how far you can take it in this hobby. Good stuff!
Model (??) railroading on the grand scale ! The real thing ! I bet it takes a full year of learning and training to operate safely and smoothly. Great layout, great accomplishment . Awesome !
I've never seen this design concept before where there are two separate elevations of the floor for segmented viewing. Pretty elaborate and very effective. The finished model railroad operates great and the benchwork is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.
Wow!! I can't wait until the technology offers mini color cameras which would be placed inside of the cabs of the power units: Imagine running a power unit, imaging from a computer/desktop/laptop/tablet/phone - watching and controlling 'your' train, viewing as it would appear from the cab. ON that note, my gosh - what a layout!! Thank you for the video.
Wow, yes, but perhaps not quite to that level of sophistication, perhaps still mini hand controllers (or the kb) from a tablet, but yes, super! Thank you. - @@tsgmultimedia
If I had to choose a word to describe the layout it would either be, "elite" or "amazing." Thank you for sharing your layout and providing inspiration.
Excellent video!! Excellent layout!! 2 questions (and you may have answered them in the video and I missed it), 1) how often do you have operating sessions, and 2) can you run a train all the way through the layout by just yourself wout anyone else being present?..
We try to operate monthly. That usually happens. A train can be run around at anytime. The layout is designed as a large “loop,” so trains can be run through staging and back on the layout. No one else needs to be present.
@@bnsfbuff …that’s my din of layout. Congrats!! You’ve done a superb job. If you can in the future, do show a complete “around the loop” train. It would be interesting to see it, and see how long it takes. Again, congrats!!! 👏👏👏
Skip forward to the "Yard" chapter at 8:55 if you just want to see the layout. It really is an amazing layout but the way they operate it isn't for me. Great realism, but I want my hobbies to be a break from work -- these guys seem to make an operating session be like having a second job, minus the pay. 😕
@@tsgmultimedia Thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely check those out. I do like operations, but just not at the level where paperwork and telephones get involved.
The modeling, and scenery are on point. Very well done. But not a fan of the "mushroom" style layout. Just look at 8:57 in; He had this huge open space for a layout, then went and made a warren of narrow tunnels out of it...
@@tsgmultimedia Fundamentally, my not being "a fan of the 'mushroom' style layout" is due to looking at it from the point of view of the European modeling side of the hobby. With that space; there would be virtually no one that would do a double deck layout. It wouldn't even occur to us to do so. The layout would be single level (with one or two large hidden shadow stations under the layout), wrap around the walls, and be more of an Island style as it moves out into the room. A bit more room would have also likely been made for people to walk around the layout with that much space. It's just a different mindset. People seem to really like this layout due to the way it is set up to run 'prototypical operations'. The ideal of running 'prototypical operations' on ones layout (in the form of dedicated operating sessions) is much more dominant in the US model railroading hobby mindset. Not that 'prototypical operations' aren't done by some european modelers. But I've never seen the relentless emphasis on it like you do from the US hobbyists, and in the US hobby literature.
John's design is brilliant only in part because it provides an excellent illusion that you are actually going somewhere far away with your train, and every main area has a view block so you can't see the people who are theoretically miles away even though they're only feet away from you on the other side of the wall. It succeeds at much more, but that alone makes his design worthwhile as an ops-based layout. Have you ever tried realistic model railroad operations?
@@tsgmultimedia If prototypical operations are your jam, I understand the praise. The reasons for this are very well explained in the video. My not being a fan of this particular style of layout is due to just having a different mindset about the model railroad hobby. Running 'prototypical operation' sessions? Absolutely Zero interest. It's just not what I want to get out of the hobby. I fully realise that this is a wholly different outlook than what seems to be the focus of the American side of the hobby. I do find video's like this fascinating due to that contrast. Just compare the contents of Model Railroader to say Continental Modeler, or especially MIBA (die eisenbahn im modell) - once you looks past the similarities, the difference in focus is very clear.

Awesome layout. It looks like endless fun to operate. One question, what do you do to keep all the track clean?
I keep the layout room clean (finished ceiling and carpet helps). I occasionally clean the track and all wheels using mineral spirits.
Just magnificent. Thank you TSG for recording this work of art
