Happy 25th Birthday Gina, have a wonderful day and many more to come in good health and company ;) Al, if you work in a garage with a running engine, just open the outside door an inch or 2, this way you can prevent carbonmonoxide and carbondioxide buildup in the workarea. looking forward on the completion of the new "barn" and the next big project. Short drives are your likely a big cause. When we lived in town and only had short little drives our exhausts rusted out quickly, but with longer drives you get more heat in the system and that burns off the water inside the pipes and results in longer life.

Goood morning! Gotta love the salt on the roads here in the North East. The short trips we make don't heat up the exhaust enough to get the moisture out of the exhaust. That's why the piping further from the engine generally rusts out first. Also, make sure you get the tires all the way into the ramps. It's very unlikely you will drive off them, if anything the ramps will skid on the floor a little.
Thank you for that information. I was driving 35 miles to work each day. That must be why my 6 year old subaru with 200,000 miles isn't having this issue. Yet.

Al you are a jack of all trades ! I’m so impressed with your abilities to tackle any chore around the Homestead I also really enjoyed the new format for the cooking portion of the show. Hope you’re gearing up to Gina having her own RUclips channel soon :-)
Tip for jacking cars. Get a piece of 4x6 about 12" long. Cut a 1" deep 1/2" wide groove lengthwise on the long face. Now you can place it on the jack saddle and directly under the rocker pinch weld. Properly placed, you can easily lift then entire side of the car.
I LOVE the sequence leading into Gina cooking! The camera angles, the lighting, the soothing music with just captioning for ingredients... really relaxing and chill. Great editing!
@@klazyy641 You are sooooo right, the music he's been using is VERY tiresome. The music when Gina started cooking today is really nice and a super change. I didn't even mute my sound when it came on.
Ah, the equivalent to the MOT over here in the UK. My Jeep is seven years old, with similar mileage, and the exhaust is still okay. Good going especially as it's hardly been used this year thanks to Covid. We'd always been huge Land Rover fans in my family, but since getting the Jeep I would be hard pressed to go back to a Landie. Glad the two flocks seem to have mingled okay. Always a worry one might get overly hen-pecked as they sort out the pecking order. You must also be pleased that they're using the nesting boxes in the new coop. Stay safe, everyone.
A family member used to love her Land Rover (a 109, not an 88) back when they were advertised as being "rhinoceros proof". As a family, we had the "pleasure" of riding as passengers for 5 hour trips from CT to VT. One of the most uncomfortable road cars. Great for the bush, but for roads? Owww!
@@samvalentine3206 Hehehehe... Yeah, not known for comfort. We had everything from a series one to the Defender series. The best was the series one, with the optional extra of a heater to defrost the windscreen. 🤣

@@LumnahAcres Rust will do that to ya every time and where you live they use a lot of salt in the wintertime. That causes the rust on metal parts. As a "used to be mechanic" you should remember that.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Gina, I love salmon. Since most of the high end restaurants are still locked down because of the virus, the price of salmon has come down so it is a bit more affordable.
You are such a talented man. I love my husband with all my heart but, he is not the handyman, mechanic type. I am ok with that. I am always just in awe of all you know. It saves you all so much money! AND you put up your tools. It didn't seem like it took you very long at all.
A recipe we've come to love in the last several years is stuffed jalapeno peppers. Take a jalapeno pepper, slice it length ways in half, clean the seeds and fill each half with your favorite cheese. Goat cheese, cheddar, mozzarella or our personal favorite is cream cheese. Wrap each piece with a small strip of bacon and hold together with a toothpick. Bake in the oven on a cookie pan at 375-400 until the bacon is cooked. For added options you can leave a few seeds in to make it hotter or leave all the seeds and veins in for a super hot pepper.
If you're in a region with salt on the roads that can happen. You can get coatings for the undercarriage, but that's best if you get it new. Tuff Kote Dinol is one. Not cheap though.
Here in UK vehicles have an inspection after three years it’s called an M O T (Ministry of Transport) and they are quite keen, it is an annual check costs 54 British pounds (70.11 US Dollar). We have problems here with catalytic converters being stolen from vehicle exhaust systems in broad daylight. If this happens it’s very expensive to get the system repaired. We call your shrimps King Prawns. Delicious however you call them. Great video as always.
In Canada vehicle inspections and licenses are the jurisdiction of each province. In Nova Scotia vehicle inspections must be done every 2 years or when the vehicle is sold. The cost is $29.15 +15% HST( our VAT)
@@BillAndersonNS interesting. I'm in Alberta and I think you only need to inspect a vehicle if it was a salvage or you bought it out of province. I don't think I've ever had to inspect a vehicle before unless I wanted to do so.
My subaru is 6 years old with over 200,000 miles on it and I haven't had to replace anything but the power steering pump, brakes, tires, battery. Not bad. Love my subaru!

Is there ANYTHING you can't do Al? Ur a beast! Great job fixing the car... mechanics is a task I usually make more of a mess than when I started! Oh, and you got me with the title! LOL! "Failed inspection" while standing in front of the new building made my heart drop for u!
I love seafood. I was introduced to ceviche a few years ago on a trip to Mexico. Living in Iowa, I don’t get fresh seafood often, but I like to use fresh tuna to make ceviche.
I too love seafood and fish. I was lucky that my grandparents lived on a river in CT which got stocked with trout. Being homeowners we got to fish on our side of the river as long as we let the fish and game people fish on the other side. 5 fish limit. Delicious to have a fresh trout breakfast within minutes of catching it!
As soon as I saw the prawns I thought "hmm, first time I remember seafood cooking here" - and then immediately wondered if THAT was the next big project?!! A pond? We'll see... :) We eat fish 3-4 times a week - salmon, trout, sea bass, mackeral, tuna, cod, - pretty much the same as easily available to you I imagine, as we share the same sea (ok, not tuna)! Plus, kippers for breakfast, fish and chips for a takeaway. And every time I feel grateful and hope that future generations will have such abundance!
My experience of living in Chicago for 35 yrs. the hard winters are terrible on different parts of your car. You have a new garage now . It will be very nice to put your car in the Winter .
Wow. This is so weird. We got our car inspections at the same time. I have just had my car standing outside my house for over a year. Recharged the battery over a few hours, drove it about 6-7 miles and it went straight through inspections. I have a Skoda Octavia 1,6 2008 with 39'000 miles on it. I think a lot of the rust on it could be from road salt. I live in UK now but in Sweden they throw down a lot of salt. Usually a coating of oil before they start throwing salt protects the car underside somewhat from rusting too bad.
That works pretty well Meta on the frame and body underside but, the exhaust system gets too hot and the oil will either boil off or get so thin that it just drips off.
Good Morning Lumnah Acres! Florida had car inspections years ago. As a young driver I hated it. Dad would make me fix it myself. He also encouraged me to go to Tech School. As a female rebuilding engine's and transmission's were not my favorite, but surely a blessing to have the knowledge. Thank you for sharing your Journey with us. Have a blessed day
Good for you! Now a days, being a mechanic is a good-paying job! When we were kids, being a "grease monkey" was frowned on. Now, the trade jobs are the ones which survive and those in the know are always in demand.
They must use a lot of salt in your area. Here it's use is limited. There are survivor cars roaming the hills that are 40, 50 and 60 years old. I traded my older truck last year for a newer one. It was 15 years old and rust free, even the exhaust. We also don't have vehicle inspections here.
When we use ramps we always make sure all the wheel is on the flat off the ramp and we then choc the wheels on the ramp so that they cannot roll back. NOT A GOOD THING TO WORK ALONE UNDER A CAR. Gena should have at least checked in on you regularly. We like roast mackerel with boiled potatoes peas and parsley sauce.
ikr im surprised no one checked up for so long i kept getting anxious... especially on plastic ramps and just jacks on one side. We usually try to have everyone nearby outside and at least one person out from under the machinery to get immediate help if needed. If one of those plastic ramps snapped man....
@@pugglebiscuit9600 They didn't sound like plastic when they scraped along the concrete floor, and btw plastic would be an illegal material for those stands and that use. I'm sure they are made from good solid steel. They will hold!

A couple of my favorite fish recipes are, sprinkle lemon pepper on any white flesh fish and broil it. Just don't overcook it. Light and flakey. The second is mix italian bread crumbs and parmesan cheese 50/50, bread the fish using egg or milk, then pan fry in a a little oil. I've used olive oil, canola oil, or vegetable oil.

For future reference, try spraying your pipes, inside and out, with high-temperature BBQ or wood-burner paint before assembling. Especially where there might be water trap points and all the fittings. I always did it to my exhausts and rarely had any rust problems after that.

Be careful with them ramps on a slick concrete floor. Don't let anyone stand on the end of the car you're driving up the ramp. I seen a guy get his leg broke when the ramp fired out from under the car as it was almost all the way up the ramp. Four good jack stands are far better than the ramps.

I enjoyed watching you fix the muffler. 🖐✌👍
Al you are a jack of all trades ! I’m so impressed with your abilities to tackle any chore around the Homestead
I also really enjoyed the new format for the cooking portion of the show. Hope you’re gearing up to Gina having her own RUclips channel soon :-)
Yes, I support Gina having her own channel too.
Thanks for sharing everything with us on Lumnah Acres! God bless! 💜
YAY, LORD AL! Is there anything you cannot do? WHAT A MAN!!!!!!!
Good idea - you also spread the weight out over a larger area. Less likely to cause any jack stand damage.

I LOVE the sequence leading into Gina cooking! The camera angles, the lighting, the soothing music with just captioning for ingredients... really relaxing and chill. Great editing!
Agreed! Quality work that's really appreciated. Thank you, Lumnah Family!
@@samvalentine3206 Yup, I was good and tired to the ending 'song' in the former vids---this new music fits the bill! Much appreciated, for sure.
I agree. It was a refreshing change, but regardless, I always look forward to Gina's cooking. Yummy!
Good morning !! My heart sank when I read the title at 4:58am,and then I got mad cause I could not fathom the barn failing!! Very relieved it was the car😃, I guess I’m use to vehicles not passing inspections- if one passed I’d probably faint!!😁😂❤️❤️
We never thought the car would have failed.
@@LumnahAcres in Washington, if you show receipts of $150 they pass you, even if it's still needing more to pass.
@@wendy833 we don't have to have yearly I inspections in Idaho
@@LumnahAcres Rust will do that to ya every time and where you live they use a lot of salt in the wintertime. That causes the rust on metal parts. As a "used to be mechanic" you should remember that.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Gina, I love salmon. Since most of the high end restaurants are still locked down because of the virus, the price of salmon has come down so it is a bit more affordable.
I thought for sure something on the homestead failed Inspector Figaro's inspection!
You are such a talented man. I love my husband with all my heart but, he is not the handyman, mechanic type. I am ok with that. I am always just in awe of all you know. It saves you all so much money! AND you put up your tools. It didn't seem like it took you very long at all.
That was pretty awesome 👍🏻 doing something different was really cool 👍🏻
You can get coatings for the
undercarriage, but that's best if you get it new. Tuff Kote Dinol is one. Not cheap though.
Southern New England, Groton/New London, Connecticut. Lots of Fish, Clams, Crabs and Lobster. Excited about your next big project.
Yes I live in your area. I was born and raised in Georgia though.
Thank you for sharing the comparison!!! Very interesting!!
Just clarify uk mot is after a car is 3 years old then annually
@@lh7501 All UK vehicles require an MOT (inspection) once the vehicle is three years old and then annually on its anniversary date.
My nephew brings me fresh Red Snapper. And living so close to the water the shrimp is awesome!

Do you think it rusted faster bc of all the snow and salt that is used on the roads? Prob need to get the car rust proof undercoated

Good for TOYOTA!
That old video was the first time I saw you. I have been watching on and off ever since. Thanks for the entertainment. Keep up the great work.
Good Mawning Lumnah’s! Have a blessed day from upstate NY!!!!!

Happy Bithday Gina! That’s to bad about the car! Great job fixing it. Take care..
Better the car fail the inspection than the new garage/barn project. A little click-bait there... 🤨
As soon as I saw the prawns I thought "hmm, first time I remember seafood cooking here" - and then immediately wondered if THAT was the next big project?!! A pond? We'll see... :)
We eat fish 3-4 times a week - salmon, trout, sea bass, mackeral, tuna, cod, - pretty much the same as easily available to you I imagine, as we share the same sea (ok, not tuna)! Plus, kippers for breakfast, fish and chips for a takeaway. And every time I feel grateful and hope that future generations will have such abundance!
@S Roberts Ooh, that's a good guess! I wonder if that's what's coming up? Can't wait for Saturday!
My experience of living in Chicago for 35 yrs. the hard winters are terrible on different parts of your car. You have a new garage now . It will be very nice to put your car in the Winter .
Might be worth taking a wire wheel to some of your parts that have surface rust then spray them with black paint.
Happy Birthday Gina!
🎂🎉🥳🎊🎁
Watching this made me decide what I'm cooking for dinner tonight
I bet you are very glad you have a nice warm garage to do this in and out in the driveway😊
They must use a lot of salt in your area. Here it's use is limited. There are survivor cars roaming the hills that are 40, 50 and 60 years old. I traded my older truck last year for a newer one. It was 15 years old and rust free, even the exhaust. We also don't have vehicle inspections here.
Happy Birthday young lady. I hope you have many many more.
I still use the stacked wood ramps my Dad made in the 1970s. They're just stacked wide boards. Much safer than those metal ones. Wider and longer.
@@yvindascanius6061 if plastic is actually illegal for ramps then I've seen far more illegal ones that not oof 💀

Gina you are so lucky that Al is an all around handy man. Mechanic jobs on the car are so expensive even if they just replace a light bulb. Have a Blessed day.
Not only are mechanics expensive, my mom is convinced that they tweak some parts so that another thing breaks down in 2-3months! 😅🤷
Al's name should be Jack, because he's definitely a Jack of all trades!!

That's very kind of you. Bravo!
we live near maryland border, so maryland crab soup and steamed crabs are some favorites.
That sounds delicious!
you could make a mock crab soup shredding cooked chicken and flavoring with "Old Bay" before adding to soup. if crabs are not in season.
@@jetman258 - nothing quite like going to a restaurant down around Maryland and having the crabs on top of the brown paper with some beers! A good old crab-fest! Oysters are good too.
For future reference, try spraying your pipes, inside and out, with high-temperature BBQ or wood-burner paint before assembling. Especially where there might be water trap points and all the fittings. I always did it to my exhausts and rarely had any rust problems after that.
Al, is there anything you can't do? Fantastic job on the muffler. Really enjoyed the older videos you posted. Watching you and Olivia make a breakfast pizza was great. Only I kept saying push your sleeves up Olivia, LOL. I guess it's a mom thing. Love you all, from Wisconsin
Yup, Al seems to be a jack of all trades. Mechanic, carpenter, gardener, butcher, as well as grill master.
We live in the Florida Gulf lots of fish & crabs make up our diet. Oh Happy Birthday Gina.
Be careful with them ramps on a slick concrete floor. Don't let anyone stand on the end of the car you're driving up the ramp. I seen a guy get his leg broke when the ramp fired out from under the car as it was almost all the way up the ramp. Four good jack stands are far better than the ramps.
I have seen that type of ramp collapse at least twice. Holding my breath all the time you are under the car!!
@@thanewalton1080 I've seen it to over the years. We always put a couple of cinder blocks or something else so we didn't get crushed under there if it did happen.
