      You own and love the cb500x? I'm on the market and in research I'm finding that is super reliable and affordable..a big plus.
      I'm going cross country in Thailand and read there's vibration in the handlebars over long trips and it's underpowered compared to others in its class.
      Thoughts, suggestions?
      Also, have you used it off-road?

    I've owned the Versys 650 and the tiger 800 xca. Both are great bikes, they only suffered the mistreatment of a bad rider. The Versys is great for roads and dirt roads, but I wouldn't take it farther than that. The tiger suffered more off-road with me and behaved excellent. I would buy both of them again.

    I had the Honda cb 500x, for a few months but didn't get on with it. I am over 6ft and felt it was a little small and under powered for me. Admittedly it wasn't the latest model which has both a larger front wheel and more power, I believe. I traded in for the new Tenere 700 which I fell in love with on the first test ride. No frills, but very torquey. I absolutely love this bike. It is deserving of all the attention it has received. It handles really well, it is light and has a surprising amount of power for the engine size/ bhp.

    You should of added the Versys X 300. I tried to get a Honda 500 x but could not get one, so I went with the Versys 300 X and glad I did. Thanks Honda for not having it available, lead me down a better path. It came with spoked wheels, engine guard, and center stand, I added some extra lights, and went with trekker 33 liter side bags., also heated grips, hand guards, and a power outlet. With the 17 liter gas tank I get around 450 kilometers per tank. It is geared great for light off road using the first 3 gears and the top 3 for the highway. I do mostly back roads and some light trails, the roads I ride on are 80 - 90 km. but it will handle 100 km roads no problem. Love this little bike at 71 yr don't need the weight of the bigger bikes, or find any reason to go 150 Km + per hour. I have been riding for well over 50 years and this is one of the most fun bikes I have ever had, great for running through the gears on the windy roads. I have had many bikes of 450 to over 1000 cc and did not enjoy them as much as I do the Versys 300 X. PUTS A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE EVERY TIME I TAKE IT OUT.

    I find VERSYS the most pretty (i am still owner of the 2008 model) of all. But i must say that i WANT the TENERE, not because of it's beauty, because you can do anything you want with this bike. The only thing i miss with VERSYS is off road rides, not it's stong feature, but on road is such entertaining.

    It's not just a matter of less expense, I personally just don't like bikes that are huge/heavy or overpowered off road. On-road, either, for that matter. A light, highly maneuverable bike that you can give 3/4 throttle without worrying about it trying to wheelie or kick out from under you is just a lot more fun to me than something super fast and stable that's hard to do anything with and will land me in jail if I really give it the beans.
    Hell, most of these bikes are bigger and more powerful than I want. I ride a TW200 (albeit heavily modified) most of the time. Yeah, it's slow, but it will go ANYWHERE effortlessly, and you can ride it absolutely flat-out in relative safety and legality in most situations. I also have a G310GS with all the Rally Raid off-road stuff on it for when I want to take a longer and/or faster ride, and I think it's just about perfect, but I know they're terribly unreliable and wish there was a similar bike from one of the 'Big 4'. If only Yamaha built like a sub-500cc Tenere variant, I'd buy one tomorrow.
    Luckily, adventure-type bikes have been trending smaller, and I think that sort of thing will come along soon enough.

    YOU NEED TO TEST ADV MOTORCYCLES FULLY LOADED WITH PANNIER CANS OR SIDE BAGS AND TAIL. THATS THE REAL TEST IN OFF-ROAD ROCK, GRAVEL, DEEP SAND CONDITIONS. WE ALL KNOW PAVEMENT WILL BE FINE EXCEPT IN AGGRESSIVE TWISTYS. WE ARE LOOKING FOR THE LIGHTEST ADV BIKE WE CAN GET, ALL THE MODELS ABOVE ARE STILL OVER 400LBS. UNTIL THAT BARRIER IS BROKEN, I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THEY’RE TOO HEAVY FOR A LONG RIDE TO BAJA -CABO AND BACK MOSTLY OFF-ROAD.

      @jmtel1 3 года назад

      It's really hard to say which model, because it does not exist, but the top manufactures need a model that weighs less than 400lbs wet somewhere in the 375lbs range. With at least 70-80 HP preferably a twin, fly by wire throttle cruise control, ABS, TTC off road/ road suspension. There are many models that come close but they can not handle all aspects of a Baja adventure.

Jealousy leaps to mind. Himalayan sure is a great bike though. £4000 on the road, £200 go anywhere fully comprehensive insurance. Proven itself through hundreds of you tube vids. I know it is only 300 cc but the Versys X 300 could be added. It is more than capable for long distance touring and light off road. I put Trekker 33 liter hard bags on and it came with center stand and engine guard, added heated grips and LED lights. Will take this bike on any road paved or dirt, and it will get over 400 km per tank . Have done some light off road but not a lot of ground clearance. It also comes with spoke wheels. Have got just over 7,000 km so far and loving it. I have over 55 yr of riding under my belt and as much as 50,000 miles in one year on every thing form 250 to over 1000 cc and the Versys x has to be one of the most fun to ride. It loves the windy roads, and you can run it through the gears with out breaking the speed limits. Just plane fun. and It will do a tun (160 Km per hour.)

      How is your experience regarding having it fully packed (side bags and a bag on the back rack as well) and a pillion? Im looking at options around 500 to 650 but if its reliable and holds a good speed when fully loaded a 300 wont bother me. Im just wondering if it will hold up on long trips and uphill. Considering the cb500x, trk502x, versys300 and some other options. Efficiency and bang for buck is my goal, im not a speed guy i just want a quality reliable machine.

      @@danieln3757 Loaded up no problem but only ride by my self, most of the time. Have found hills no problem, I stay mostly on the back roads and the speed is from 90 km to 80 km and there is no problem pulling out and passing . I have seen videos where people are 2 up on it on the highway and having no problems. This is a all round bike great for back roads, good on the highway, and some off road at proper speeds. It is geared with a 6 speed the first 3 for off road work great and the top 3 for road and highway, If you do not want to do any off road you can change the front sprocket to keep the revs down, but I like it the way it is. It is a very fun bike to run through the gears, it likes to rev. It is the same engine that is in the Ninga and people have well over 100,000 Km on them with no problems. If you just like to put it in gear and ride it will do quite good but running through the gears it will get up and go. With the 17 liter gas tank you can get over 400 km per tank so not all ways looking for gas. I did not like the Kawasaki bags and I think they are much too small and like the way the Trekker 33 liter bags go on, much more solid. I was looking at the Honda 500 x but could not find one, so looked at the Versys X 300 and glad I did, this is a great bike, light , great through the corners, and just plane fun, also like the spoked wheels, as they are better for off road. The only thing I would change on this bike are the tires, there are not bad but would like a little better for ware and handling off road. By the way gravel roads no problem . Good luck on what ever you get. If you are ever in PEI Tyne Valley is where I am at, drop in . PEI is a great place to go for a cruse, lots of back windy roads with great scenery and great people.

      If you have the option, look at Aprilia's Pegaso 650 Trail. It's not produced new anymore, but if you can find a used one with low miles/km, then it's a proper bike that can easily handle highway as well as the dirt. It's also much lighter than most of the bikes in this list, and very cheap to buy and run. And don't worry about the reliability, the engine is the 660cc single produced by Yamaha and is bulletproof - and Aprilia are known for their decent wiring.
