    I've realized this Grevious is so good against Jedi because he fights with a completely unique style. When Jedi are practicing or even fighting Sith, the opponent will have at most two lightsabers and will almost always be using a recognizable form. There's no way to prepare for an enemy who can spin their torso 360 degrees and wield 3+ blades at once while breakdancing

    • @chimerical8746
      @chimerical8746 5 лет назад +2657

      Also, sith and jedi use the force to fight as well which means they both know each others moves a little bit before its shown, not with grievous tho, he has almost no connection to it and that makes him 100 times more deadlier to those who rely on it. Same with magna gaurds and anti jedi droids

      Divide and conquer: 3:25
      staggering opponents/keeping opponents unfocused: 3:39
      also keeping opponents off guard by keeping tactics of fighting unpredictable

      @@mr.angryman3599 I mean for sure he'd be way stronger if he could use the force, but just because he can't doesn't mean you can sleep on him either. Mace was able to do that because he got the jump on Grievous, but it's usually the other way around. And though hypotheticals probably don't matter much, it might be worth noting that most other jedi probably wouldn't do that if they got the jump on Grievous since jedi are only supposed to use the force for defense, but Mace has no chill.

    Honestly the best part for me is at 4:32, something I never appreciated as a kid. At this point, if my memory serves, we didn't know Grievous had any organic material in him. He was just the Droid General. So when he turns and reveals an organic eye, meaning there's an organic brain in that metal shell calling the shots and performing those moves, it's terrifying. Also the fact that the eye betrays no emotion. No glee, no joy, no fear, no surprise, nothing. Just Grievous hunting Jedi like prey.

    • @wrongchew3423

      Honestly I think it would've been scarier (for the Jedi) if he was entirely a droid. The big contrast in the militaries of the Clone Wars was that the separatists had quantity, not quality. The Jedi and Republic overcame the overwhelming numbers of the droid threat by having better troops, better coordination, and the elite Jedi. Imagine the concern the Jedi have when see one droid absolutely annihilate an entire squad of Jedi. Now imagine their fear once they realize that droids are mass producible, and there could be more than one General Grievous.

      Conversely, when Mace Windu engaged him during the Battle of Corusant, Grievous immediately takes out all 4 light sabers to face him before Mace simply force crushes his ribs. But between that scene and this one, it builds up both Grievous & Windu. Grievous knowing that he could easily handle all 5 jedi at once, yet recognizing Windu as far superior and requiring his full efforts.

      2003 Grievous being OP actually made sense if you think about it. The CIS needed some kind of OP balancing factor against the jedi who effortlessly destroyed countless platoons of battle droids by themselves. It honestly made no sense that the CIS were even a threat with how ludicrously superior the jedi and clone army were in every way. There he ambushes them and tries to take out Ki Adi first but when he pushes Ki Adi to using his force abilities, he switches to evasive manoeuvres and avoids the masters until he has taken out the other lesser jedi. From there he uses his spinning blades and unorthodox fighting style to disoriente the exhausted jedi and isolate them. When he is ambushed by the arc troopers he quickly resorts back to evasion and tries to close the distance asap and calls it game only when the gunship arrives.

      The crazy thing? He's isn't just simply OP. He's a smart fighter. Agility and reflexes aside, that is the genius behind Grievous' unorthodox fighting style. He's intimidating the Jedi by keeping on them and storming them with unrelenting force to make them break their guard.
      Moreso, he adds to it with his entrance, scaring the Jedi by abruptly ambushing them and stomping Sha'a Gi into the dirt. His unpredictability makes him scary.
      Dooku taught him this particular style to throw the Jedi off their game, demoralize them, and take advantage of their wavering state to cut them down.

      I genuinely wondered how 2008 grievous even got the job done, man out here losing to anyone slightly above Padawan level. Then losing to crackhead pirates, snail-amphibian people, and a rather unprepared Ahsoka. There's also that one exploding ship part where plot armor saved his metal ass because for some dumb reason, obi wan decided to warn grievous the ship was going to explode instead of being smart and letting him die. Too much plot armor, not enough evidence to support the whole jedi-killer part of his story.

      Gungans are armed with EMP weapons, perfect for dealing with someone who’s entire body is made of metal and circuitry. They are also skilled warriors, having maintained a standing army for a long time. And there were a LOT of them. Grievous would have been overpowered eventually, even if he killed three times more than he did in the actual scene. I personally like to believe that he put up much more of a fight, and the Gungans’ feat is simply exaggerated on-screen.

    I can understand why Lucas wanted Grevous to be a sick weakened character who resorted to running away by Episode III; because of what Mace Windu did to him at coruscant. But for the life of me i'll never understand why the clone wars felt the need to nerf him so much. I mean Grievous was defeated so easily in the series, that it made the threat he represented almost null by the time Episode III came around.

    • @joshuakim5240
      @joshuakim5240 7 лет назад +45

      +Pepe's Kebabs
      If anything, the only real things nerfed regarding Grievous is his intelligence. Dooku's training lesson makes it clear that Grievous only performs THIS well when the jedi have been exhausted, scared, and beaten. So, this version of Grievous uses those before engaging jedi, getting good results.
      However, the 2008+ TCW version of Grievous doesn't use these tactics as Dooku trained him to, making him much more prone to losing because he didn't wear down his opponents like he did here. In the 2008+ series, Grievous is too flaunty and bombastic and thus ignores Dooku's advice. In this series, Grievous is much more reserved and kind of shy, making him follow Dooku's advice almost religiously.
      Both depictions are equally strong and skilled, but this version simply sticks to the methods that he was taught, rather than letting his ego get the better of him like the 2008+ version.

And then it made sense why he was so 'cowardly' in ROTS- since he was pretty badly wounded by Windu's lucky force crush. But Windu's crush didn't quite seem like a cheap shot even- in all other encounters, he kept the jedi off guard. off focus- it made sense they wouldn't have the thought or ability to ruin him with the force. And then the 2008 The Clone Wars came around- and made the greatest general in the separatist army into some two bit villain that lost every other episode, renowned for his cowardice and cheap shots

    • @fuzzydunlop7928
      @fuzzydunlop7928 2 года назад +126

      Mace Windu's gimmick is that he can harness some of his darkside potential without succumbing completely - that he has the discipline and self-control to use those powers in small amounts.
      So when Windu crushes Grievous' torso, it's like a last act of desperation, he dips into that dark potential. Grievous could be picked apart by a darkside user quickly, which is why he's so useful as an asset to Sideous - he's both immensely powerful to everyone else but powerless against a Sith. Not a threat.
      Jedi by their very nature can't do the easy thing of using their force power to just snuff out the life of someone untouched by the force - except for Windu.
      The interaction has so much depth, and both characters had so much potential that was largely wasted. Man, you ever finish typing something out and just think "I'm such a fucking nerd." lol

      HERMIEkid He was a proud warrior of a people whose planet was attacked by a race of sentient insect creatures. They initially drove off the creatures mercilessly but the insects appealed to the Jedi pretending that they were innocently defending themselves. The Jedi fought against Grievous’ people and he himself was injured in an explosion but survived. Mangled and robbed of a warrior’s death he agreed to be rebuilt as a cyborg and lead the separatists’ armies to get revenge on the Jedi

    Can't begin to express how much this scene changed my life when it came to drawing and writing. It's pretty much perfect. So many elements are at play, every character has a personality and every emotion they wanted you to feel, you felt it....all in like a 3 minute time frame.
