The ZombieMan I just watched the movie and all I got to say is that if they were going to have the joker in it, it should have been darker. It made his scenes cringeworthy. The only reason he was in the movie was to explain harleys story in the movie. Other than that I think they should have done the joker another time.

It would've been more consistent, that's for sure. The final release had the most hilarious identity crisis since Burton/Schumacher Batman films. DC shat their pants after they realized that the pretentious bleak Snyder tone doesn't work on anyone outside the 16 year old edgelord demographic, but the lack of self-awareness made BvS really fun to watch. Wish they did the same with this movie.

+PolskiProdigy Not critical?...Ledger getting the role was viewed as one of the worst castings ever...The comments about him were not just bad, but downright mean. The response to Leto as the Joker was pretty favorable...most people knew what an excellent actor he was...the people who complained just thought he didn't fit the part, and wanted someone else. Based on his career up to that point, there was little reason to believe that Ledger could pull it off....but we know how that turned out. People should just wait for the film before judging, but I guess that's too much to ask.

I thought the movie was okay. I felt like it didn't know which direction it wanted to go though. It had the dark and creepy atmosphere, but with the Eminem music and humor, forced humor that they clearly added during reshoots (because of all the bitching and moaning about how dark BvS was) really threw me off. I felt like this movie was all over the place. Still liked it, but I enjoyed BvS more. Not comparing the two, just stating it since they both were released this year.
You can thank everyone pissing in their beds about how dark BvS was and how DC was "so depressing." WB tried to make a course correction with this film so far into development and it backfired. We have the Internet to thank for this.
What I liked about this take where the joker says "I'm just gonna hurt ya really really bad" is that you could see the joy in his face and you could tell he enjoyed doing that and you could tell how excited he got. it gives me the chills Everytime. but unfortunately they cut this version of the scene out and switched it out for a dumber version

Razz that the point man, Leto has to take a position of an actor who passed away, an actor who most definately would have continued to play the joker in future films, one problem many movies had was changing actors in later movies and with those changed actors changed the voice, and it just kills it in a way, i like the Leto is using a similar voice to ledger, it will make it alot easier on fans to ease out of the idea of Ledger not being the joker anymore, many people liked him in the lore, me included.

How tf does a change of tone help improve this movie? The plot and writing will not change AT ALL. Jared's Joker was terrible! Cutting his scenes in the movie was one of the only good choices made by WB. I won't be able to stand 30 more minutes of Ace Ventura clown gangsta. WB did early screenings for the Ayer cut and the trailer park cut. They both had terrible receptions.

Executive meddling. The original cut of the film was much darker but the executives wanted something more like Deadpool so they had things reshot and changed. The film they released was a mess. An enjoyable mess thanks to some awesome performances, but still a mess.
I can't wait for these DC movies to get underway. What many people don't realize is that the DC movies will help refresh the genre. Don't get me wrong, the Marvel movies have been massively successful and Antman will follow suit no doubt but let's be real. The Marvel movies all follow the same formula/feel/tone. That's why people are increasingly clamoring for the edgier heroes like Punisher, Moon Knight, and Daredevil. I'm ready for a new feel, one that hasn't been felt since the Dark Knight trilogy; call it "dark" if you will. I really don't care. The genre needs both kinds of tones in their movies to flourish or we'll get burnt out.
Osaji Obi Exactly. I've been rooting for Marvel ever since Iron Man, but I think they blew it with Avengers 2. Avengers 2 was proof that they would never do anything too risky with the mood. Guardians and Ant-Man are huge risks, but I mean, they will never go dark. Iron Man 3 was a huge hint, since the trailers made it seem like an awesomely dark and epic thing, but it turned out being the funniest of the Iron Man trilogy. We all thought that Avengers 2 would be the breaking point for the team, and that Hulk and Thor would leave on bad terms with the Earth half destroyed by Ultron, and Iron Man taking so much crap and the heroes facing immense blame. But nah, it was the same as all the previous movies. Winter Soldier was really the only time we saw a cooler, darker side of the MCU, cinematically speaking. Guardians too, despite its weirdness and humor, also did get pretty dark at times. And Daredevil is the best thing ever. So Marvel isn't catching on when they say that the MCU will never take a dark turn. I hope Winter Soldier wasn't the end of it, in the movies. While we have shows like Daredevil, we will still never see Thanos be super scary and kill someone brutally. It'll be accessible enough for the kiddies so that their ticket sales are taken into account. DC though. DC has balls. I understand that Man of Steel (which I liked) was a little too dark, mainly with the 9/11 stuff. But we see all these ballsy moves like having their two greatest heroes fight in a movie, having people called Superman a false god, having Lex Luthor calling Superman a devil, having a team like the Suicide Squad in this universe... hell, even having a movie with the name Suicide Squad. I mean damn. No one (but apparently DC) would dare bring up religious things when it comes to mainstream heroes like Superman and Batman. Marvel screwed up Ultron so we all know that Thanos isn't gonna be too scary. If he is, they should've proved it with Ultron. There was no reason to not make Ultron scary. If they didn't even make Ultron that scary (which is very much possible), then what makes anyone think that Thanos will be any different? Marvel's Phase 2 out of 3 (so far as we know) and still, no scary villain. I was really hoping that Ultron would be just that, but Marvel has since said that it'll never turn dark. So where are the stakes? I just love Daredevil so much that I find it so weird that it's canon with this universe of silly comedian villains like Loki and Ultron.

//Rant// This is what happens when studio heads interfere...this was a fantastic trailer, that had a voice, and atmosphere. The last minute reshoots and re-edits screwed up the original vision this movie had. When you squander around trying to cater to what you think people will like, rather than sticking to the original direction...you lose on all fronts. Why hire a director like David Ayer if you're going to smear it all at the last minute? Nolan's films worked because they were headed by a great filmmaker with little interference. Zack Snyder fails not because his movies are too serious, but because they are written badly with style over substance. It's not that people don't want to see gritty/darkness or something. We just want to see it WELL-WRITTEN, and with a committed style. The studio heads making executive decisions for the DC cinematic universe need to stop scrambling around hoping to get liked, and have the balls to commit to something. Chiros Ie I loved BvS, but don't blame Snyder for his "fails", that should go for Goyer. The good thing about TDK trilogy was that the Nolan's were writing as well, and fir BvS, Terrio is alright by me. This is all just my opinion of course and every comic book writer and joker actor add their own little twist on the character.

Honestly, the only movie i remember Leto from, is Dallas Buyers Club, which was pretty darn good i admit, but Heath killed in The Dark Knight, which also led to make The Dark Knight one of my faorite movies of all time.

THIS is how you make a trailer. THIS is what got people excited for the movie. It only gave us the premise of the film: that these villains are being out together to serve some larger purpose construed by the government or whatever. THIS is not the movie I saw in theatres. This movie is either buried somewhere or locked in Stan Lee's basement
A lot are but the tone is changed through the editing. They made the editing jumpier and more sporadic to add to the "fun" appeal.. clearly didn't work out.
Notice the change of tone from this trailer to the most recent one. This movie wasn't originally going to be Guardians of the galaxy for DC. It looked like it was going to be gritty and dark like Batman V Superman. But after seeing how much better it could be with a lighter tone they re shot some of it and now it looks completely different from this first trailer.
Thought i was the only one thinking like that, ever since it was announced to be pg13 im super pissed, im still hyped tho but we'll never get to see the suicide squad we were supposed to get :(
And thats also probably why the movie sucked. Reports are saying Ayers and DC had two different visions. Ayers wanted it to be dark and gritty a la this trailer, but when DC saw how much everyone hated Batman vs Superman, they hired a company that literally makes trailers for a living to make their version of a movie. And its shows. The movie is sloppy and just seems like a bunch of trailers mashed together and the tone changes drastically from scene to scene in a way that doesn't benefit them at all.
How much better it could be with a lighter tone? DC is supposed to be dark, that many don't like dark tones is a totally different story. If you like light tones you watch Marvel, if you like dark tones you watch DC, simple as that is I just wanna see these characters on the big screen, but everyone should understand that there is not much wrong with the tone of these movies. The wrong comes when the tone has to change to please the audience... that's when movies go wrong (example: the new Ghostbusters)
It's kind of tragic. This was originally the dark tone they wanted to go with for the movie, but the studio got cold feet last minute and ordered re-shoots, which kind a lead to the mess that ended up becoming the film. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie a lot, but I would've been really intrigued to see how the original version was going to go
This is DEFINITELY going to be better than Batman V Superman. Mainly because it has an EXCELLENT selection of actors and actresses, unlike their comparison. This trailer is very well put together.
If you look closely, the scene where the blonde doctor is getting pinned on a table, a guy who looks like Joker is in the background. Then when you see her strapped to the table, the hand on the side of her head is obviously Joker's, you can tell by the glove and arm tattoos. It's pretty safe to assume the end of the trailer, he's talking to this doctor. If you know Harly Quinn's history, it's safe to assume that doctor is her before she went crazy. Unless, of course, he's attacking a different female blonde doctor. So I'm thinking we're going to see Harly before she went nuts.
+Wilson Tomas She became crazy from it because The Joker was never in love with her, he manipulated her and physically/mentally abused her. She was originally his psychiatric therapist. Atleast that's what it was like in the older stories. Her being on the table might be one of the first times he abused her. Although she still loves him throughout the movie. Her choker says "puddin" which was the pet-name she had given The Joker.
I'd have personally been fine if this was the one and only teaser we got for this movie. Didn't need hokey music or jokes to sell me, like the later trailers thought...
Am I the only one who thinks the Joker's line at the end is stupid? I don't think he would say something like that. Y'know what would've fit his character better? In my opinion? Something like, "Oh, I'm not gonna kill you. I'm just gonna have some FUN with you." The Joker doesn't necessarily LIKE hurting people, he just treats pain like a big joke, is all. He doesn't take it (or anything) seriously.Hence Heath Ledger's iconic line, "WHY SO SERIOUS?"
Um speculation has it that the end scene is him talking to robin of course in the DC timeline that would be tricky but who knows, anyways thing is the line at the end isn't stupid at all you just have to be a really deep DC fan to except it. Plus the joker doesn't have a set character. The Joker is a pretty flexible character, he doesn't always have to be funny or sarcastic as seen in this character.

Genesis Campos I don't think he's talking to Robin. At 2:17 you can see who I believe is Harley strapped to a table and the Joker (I assume it's him since the guy is covered in tattoos) touching her. So I feel like they're the same scene, but of course, that's just speculation. And yes, you have a point about the flexibility of his character, but I myself simply feel the line is weak no matter what angle they're going for here. Especially if he's talking to Harley. Truly, I think this Joker has the potential to be great and well portrayed by Jared! It's just.. that damn line, man. It makes me roll my eyes.

This is one of those trailers that does totally spoil the movie by giving away the story completely. BTW, I love the cast and bc of that I think it will be way better than Batman vs Superman. The music is also pretty intense and appropriate
Mbandi Music Isn't that what every trailer does since the beginning of trailers? They don't wanna risk not getting you hooked by holding anything back and people don't even realize how much more they could've enjoyed the movie without having seen the trailer beforehand.
elvancor But a lot of trailers today and even way back when show too much revealing a lot of crucial plot points. For example Prometheus, Terminator Gen., Harry Potter, Passion, Cast Away, Spiderman 3, Quarantine. I could go on but it's clear. Modern Trailers reveal too much.
the jokes in the original version of the film were there to create a sense of unease and tension. in the theatrical release all of those jokes were retooled to make a summer action comedy movie. I love the dceu and all of the people who aren't fans of DC are just saying "make it light hearted like marvel" when the DC universe is inherently darker. it's a shame that these people get pandered to
"But we didn't see that the joke was on us." I would have loved this movie more if it was more darker and intense like I felt Batman vs Superman was. And all the critics hating on Leto's Joker, wake up! Heath's was impeccable, I know! But he sadly passed, and Leto's joker is a reintroduction to it and is really too bad we got to see so little, on his 10 mins on screen I enjoyed his performance. Specially the scene in the helicopter when he is about to rescue Harley Quinn, he nailed the laugh! I loved it!

The ZombieMan I just watched the movie and all I got to say is that if they were going to have the joker in it, it should have been darker. It made his scenes cringeworthy. The only reason he was in the movie was to explain harleys story in the movie. Other than that I think they should have done the joker another time.
They could've just replayed this trailer over and over for two hours and it still would've been better than the actual movie.

It would've been more consistent, that's for sure. The final release had the most hilarious identity crisis since Burton/Schumacher Batman films. DC shat their pants after they realized that the pretentious bleak Snyder tone doesn't work on anyone outside the 16 year old edgelord demographic, but the lack of self-awareness made BvS really fun to watch. Wish they did the same with this movie.

I thought the movie was okay. I felt like it didn't know which direction it wanted to go though. It had the dark and creepy atmosphere, but with the Eminem music and humor, forced humor that they clearly added during reshoots (because of all the bitching and moaning about how dark BvS was) really threw me off. I felt like this movie was all over the place.
Still liked it, but I enjoyed BvS more. Not comparing the two, just stating it since they both were released this year.

Razz that the point man, Leto has to take a position of an actor who passed away, an actor who most definately would have continued to play the joker in future films, one problem many movies had was changing actors in later movies and with those changed actors changed the voice, and it just kills it in a way, i like the Leto is using a similar voice to ledger, it will make it alot easier on fans to ease out of the idea of Ledger not being the joker anymore, many people liked him in the lore, me included.

Executive meddling. The original cut of the film was much darker but the executives wanted something more like Deadpool so they had things reshot and changed. The film they released was a mess. An enjoyable mess thanks to some awesome performances, but still a mess.
I can't wait for these DC movies to get underway. What many people don't realize is that the DC movies will help refresh the genre. Don't get me wrong, the Marvel movies have been massively successful and Antman will follow suit no doubt but let's be real. The Marvel movies all follow the same formula/feel/tone. That's why people are increasingly clamoring for the edgier heroes like Punisher, Moon Knight, and Daredevil. I'm ready for a new feel, one that hasn't been felt since the Dark Knight trilogy; call it "dark" if you will. I really don't care. The genre needs both kinds of tones in their movies to flourish or we'll get burnt out.

Osaji Obi Exactly. I've been rooting for Marvel ever since Iron Man, but I think they blew it with Avengers 2. Avengers 2 was proof that they would never do anything too risky with the mood. Guardians and Ant-Man are huge risks, but I mean, they will never go dark. Iron Man 3 was a huge hint, since the trailers made it seem like an awesomely dark and epic thing, but it turned out being the funniest of the Iron Man trilogy. We all thought that Avengers 2 would be the breaking point for the team, and that Hulk and Thor would leave on bad terms with the Earth half destroyed by Ultron, and Iron Man taking so much crap and the heroes facing immense blame. But nah, it was the same as all the previous movies. Winter Soldier was really the only time we saw a cooler, darker side of the MCU, cinematically speaking. Guardians too, despite its weirdness and humor, also did get pretty dark at times. And Daredevil is the best thing ever. So Marvel isn't catching on when they say that the MCU will never take a dark turn. I hope Winter Soldier wasn't the end of it, in the movies. While we have shows like Daredevil, we will still never see Thanos be super scary and kill someone brutally. It'll be accessible enough for the kiddies so that their ticket sales are taken into account.
DC though. DC has balls. I understand that Man of Steel (which I liked) was a little too dark, mainly with the 9/11 stuff. But we see all these ballsy moves like having their two greatest heroes fight in a movie, having people called Superman a false god, having Lex Luthor calling Superman a devil, having a team like the Suicide Squad in this universe... hell, even having a movie with the name Suicide Squad. I mean damn. No one (but apparently DC) would dare bring up religious things when it comes to mainstream heroes like Superman and Batman.
Marvel screwed up Ultron so we all know that Thanos isn't gonna be too scary. If he is, they should've proved it with Ultron. There was no reason to not make Ultron scary. If they didn't even make Ultron that scary (which is very much possible), then what makes anyone think that Thanos will be any different? Marvel's Phase 2 out of 3 (so far as we know) and still, no scary villain. I was really hoping that Ultron would be just that, but Marvel has since said that it'll never turn dark. So where are the stakes?
I just love Daredevil so much that I find it so weird that it's canon with this universe of silly comedian villains like Loki and Ultron.

This is what happens when studio heads interfere...this was a fantastic trailer, that had a voice, and atmosphere. The last minute reshoots and re-edits screwed up the original vision this movie had. When you squander around trying to cater to what you think people will like, rather than sticking to the original direction...you lose on all fronts. Why hire a director like David Ayer if you're going to smear it all at the last minute? Nolan's films worked because they were headed by a great filmmaker with little interference. Zack Snyder fails not because his movies are too serious, but because they are written badly with style over substance. It's not that people don't want to see gritty/darkness or something. We just want to see it WELL-WRITTEN, and with a committed style.
The studio heads making executive decisions for the DC cinematic universe need to stop scrambling around hoping to get liked, and have the balls to commit to something. Otherwise we have a bunch of half-measures that go nowhere. //End Rant.

The good thing about TDK trilogy was that the Nolan's were writing as well, and fir BvS, Terrio is alright by me. Honestly, the only movie i remember Leto from, is Dallas Buyers Club, which was pretty darn good i admit, but Heath killed in The Dark Knight, which also led to make The Dark Knight one of my faorite movies of all time.

Notice the change of tone from this trailer to the most recent one. This movie wasn't originally going to be Guardians of the galaxy for DC. It looked like it was going to be gritty and dark like Batman V Superman. But after seeing how much better it could be with a lighter tone they re shot some of it and now it looks completely different from this first trailer.

Yeah, I came here to compare it to the most recent trailers and how dark it was going to be but they made it more fun now
And thats also probably why the movie sucked. Reports are saying Ayers and DC had two different visions. Ayers wanted it to be dark and gritty a la this trailer, but when DC saw how much everyone hated Batman vs Superman, they hired a company that literally makes trailers for a living to make their version of a movie. And its shows. The movie is sloppy and just seems like a bunch of trailers mashed together and the tone changes drastically from scene to scene in a way that doesn't benefit them at all.
How much better it could be with a lighter tone? DC is supposed to be dark, that many don't like dark tones is a totally different story. If you like light tones you watch Marvel, if you like dark tones you watch DC, simple as that is I just wanna see these characters on the big screen, but everyone should understand that there is not much wrong with the tone of these movies. The wrong comes when the tone has to change to please the audience... that's when movies go wrong (example: the new Ghostbusters)
It's kind of tragic. This was originally the dark tone they wanted to go with for the movie, but the studio got cold feet last minute and ordered re-shoots, which kind a lead to the mess that ended up becoming the film. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie a lot, but I would've been really intrigued to see how the original version was going to go

If you look closely, the scene where the blonde doctor is getting pinned on a table, a guy who looks like Joker is in the background. Then when you see her strapped to the table, the hand on the side of her head is obviously Joker's, you can tell by the glove and arm tattoos. It's pretty safe to assume the end of the trailer, he's talking to this doctor. If you know Harly Quinn's history, it's safe to assume that doctor is her before she went crazy. Unless, of course, he's attacking a different female blonde doctor. So I'm thinking we're going to see Harly before she went nuts.

Atleast that's what it was like in the older stories. Her being on the table might be one of the first times he abused her. Although she still loves him throughout the movie. Her choker says "puddin" which was the pet-name she had given The Joker.

Am I the only one who thinks the Joker's line at the end is stupid? I don't think he would say something like that. Y'know what would've fit his character better? In my opinion? Something like,
"Oh, I'm not gonna kill you. I'm just gonna have some FUN with you."
The Joker doesn't necessarily LIKE hurting people, he just treats pain like a big joke, is all. He doesn't take it (or anything) seriously.Hence Heath Ledger's iconic line,

Um speculation has it that the end scene is him talking to robin of course in the DC timeline that would be tricky but who knows, anyways thing is the line at the end isn't stupid at all you just have to be a really deep DC fan to except it. Plus the joker doesn't have a set character. The Joker is a pretty flexible character, he doesn't always have to be funny or sarcastic as seen in this character.

Genesis Campos I don't think he's talking to Robin. At 2:17 you can see who I believe is Harley strapped to a table and the Joker (I assume it's him since the guy is covered in tattoos) touching her. So I feel like they're the same scene, but of course, that's just speculation. And yes, you have a point about the flexibility of his character, but I myself simply feel the line is weak no matter what angle they're going for here. Especially if he's talking to Harley. Truly, I think this Joker has the potential to be great and well portrayed by Jared! It's just.. that damn line, man. It makes me roll my eyes.

the jokes in the original version of the film were there to create a sense of unease and tension. in the theatrical release all of those jokes were retooled to make a summer action comedy movie. I love the dceu and all of the people who aren't fans of DC are just saying "make it light hearted like marvel" when the DC universe is inherently darker. it's a shame that these people get pandered to

The Jokers laugh in this trailer was the closest thing to The Joker than the entire movie.
"But we didn't see that the joke was on us." I would have loved this movie more if it was more darker and intense like I felt Batman vs Superman was. And all the critics hating on Leto's Joker, wake up! Heath's was impeccable, I know! But he sadly passed, and Leto's joker is a reintroduction to it and is really too bad we got to see so little, on his 10 mins on screen I enjoyed his performance. Specially the scene in the helicopter when he is about to rescue Harley Quinn, he nailed the laugh! I loved it!
