MetalCloak Stubby Front Bumper Swap for the Jeep Wrangler JKU

  • Here is the video that shows the AutoEdit Jeep Wrangler Rubicon getting a Stubby... Front Bumper. This is the MetalCloak frame built stubby bumper with the end caps that have mounting holes for your stock fog lights or aftermarket lights and the tubular winch guard.
    I am replacing the Warn Crawler mid length bumper because the larger Maxxis tires where hitting it in extreme situations and now I'll get the more aggressive look and capability a stubby bumper allows.
    Here's a link to the Metalcloak website for this bumper:
    metalcloak.com/frame-built-bu...
    Plus I added a Factor 55 combo hook with eyelet for a D Ring. Check out the link to that thing:
    factor55.com/product/new-ultra...

    It’s funny because I clean and prep the area before I put a new part on. Good to see other people do that as well. Love the build. Definitely love the stubby look!

    Great Video! Factor 5 offers a hard cover for the front of that winch hook that will cover the rope and protect it from impact/ elements, etc. It installs right over the rubber bumpers, using the existing holes. Love that bumper!

    I didn't think the other bumper looked bad but this new one looks sweet! btw, every time I watch one of your videos it makes me want to work on my own vehicle. Only issue is mine is currently under 3"s of snow.

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  6 лет назад

      Thanks! Yeah I got used to the other bumper and it didn't really bother me but once you are a flexed out on an obstacle and hear your tires rub that thing... it's stressful because it just doesn't give at all so it had to go. Plus, once I looked at this thing and the location of the winch sealed the deal for me!
      Take care out there in the snow!

    Jason (AutoEdits), Great video! My 2016 Hard Rock did not make things easy for me. I had to work through a bunch of issues during my install. In the end, it all came together, and I love the new look of the front end. I'm still not 100% happy. The winch control box is just touching the jeep's grill. I'm not sure if I'm just going to live with it or relocate it. I definitely don't want to get rid of my Warn though.

    I love the shape of the bumper itself, but personally not a fan of the push bar. I prefer it when they are welded (or bolted) to the main structure of the bumper. How does the push bar mount in this case? Oh, and will you be doing a tire review at some point for those maxxis tires? Hopefully will be lifting and doing tires this spring. Love the video as always!

    Great vid and that bumper looks fantastic! Can you mount a light bar to the winch guard bar or are those two holes on each side of the winch on top of the bumper for the light bar mount? Thanks+

      Thanks and yes you can mount a light or anything you want to that bar... it is very solid.

    Ive been watching all your video since you got your jeep, you've done a really cool job with it. I have a question regarding the bumper, How do you like it so far? Im between getting the metalcloak set bumpers or the smittybilt xrc gen 2 bumpers

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  6 лет назад

      I'm very happy with the front bumper... the fact it mounts the winch down low like that is it for me!

    Here's my thing. I have a Warn rear. I have an old Mopar front. I want a matching Warn front... which is the same as what you have/had on yours. I thought about a stubby. I like the Brawlers... and the Smittybuilt SRC Stinger bumper.... but I'd end up with mismatched bumpers again. Almost everything I've put on my JK has been second hand because of my budget. Which is why I have mismatched bumpers as it is. :-/

      I hear you... the miss match didn't really bother me that much but I'm really happy now that they are matched.

    Very cool bumper but I didn’t think the other one was bad. I definitely like the fact that the winch sits lower. What made you go this route? One last question how are you liking these tires in comparison to the BF Goodridges?

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  6 лет назад +2

      I keep meaning to do a tire review but am swamped right now... but I will. I have a MetalCloak bumper on the rear and REALLY like it so thought to match the front and that winch position just made better sense to me.
      Here's a quick thought on the Maxxis vs. BFG. The BFG KM2's are better all around tires, you could leave them at 20 psi... drive around town and hit the hills and do great. The Maxxis are not awesome on the road at lower pressures... better on the highway at 30 plus but at 8-10 off road, they made me feel like I was a much better driver than I actually am... really great in that extreme.

      autoedit as always I love watching the upgrades and I am glad you are getting your Jeep to where you want it. I still like the BFG’s but you have had both I’ll take your word on the MAXXIS. Awesome work as always.

    I don't recall did you already install an air compressor? If not that would make a good vid.

    • @AutoEdits

      I don't have an on board compressor but that is a great suggestion!

  • @estbeta

    Hey Jason! What do you recommend to use: rated underbody recovery points, or the recovery points on the bumper. I have had people telling me that the points in the bumper are dangerous tou use. Second, I’d like to ask what mileage are you getting on the MT tires on the road, meaning can they be used without suffering thinking about wearing them out?
    Thanks a lot and great work!

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  6 лет назад +1

      Using the recovery points on a quality bumper like this one is completely safe and I will use them for sure. As for mileage on the Maxxis tires... I bought them to use so I do. The Jeep is a daily driver still, around town and commute to work or roadtrips. Unfortunately, big tires are expensive but that's just what we all have to deal with.

    You should do some bead locks for serious wheeling

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  6 лет назад

      I do pretty serious wheeling just like it is and hang with all my friends and their beadlocks.
