I had the pleasure of meeting The Dramatics back in 1978, at their concert at The Cow Palace in San Francisco, CA. And they put on a hell of a show! My favorite songs by The Dramatics are: "In The Rain", "What You See (Is What You Get), "Shake It Well", "Me & Mrs. Jones), Dramatic Theme (Treat Me Like A Man), and "Get Off My Mountain"!
What You See Is What You Get, Get Up And Get Down, The Devil Is Dope, Toast To The Fool, In The Rain, Hey You Get Off My Mountain, Me And Mrs. Jones, Be My Girl, Shake It Well and many more are my favorites by The Dramatics, keep them coming man.
Ron Banks & The Dramatics definitely one of the best R&B groups from the 70's along with Philippe Wynne & The Detroit Spinners; The O'Jays; Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes featuring Theodore Pendergrass; EW&F; and The Isley Brothers and an endless list of others. My favorite Song by The Dramatics is "Door To Your Heart" and favorite album of their's is "Joy Ride."
Now don't even get me started with the Dramatics!!! My all-time favorite soul group!!!! Every last song they've made is my favorite!! #1 Fan!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks, WBPTV. Didn't they do a movie on the original Detroit Dramatics lineup? Loved their music. The classic songs, In The Rain, Get Off My Mountain, What You See and others were some of my favs. Thanks for their story. Fyi, LJ Reynolds also has a classic steppers cut too. 👞👠🎶🎼🎵
🩵🩵🩵 whatcha see is what you get, get up get down out of your seat, in the rain, get off my mountain, “ Could you do a story on the Detroit Emeralds “ my favorite songs: you want it you got it, wear this ring with love
We had so many neighborhood groups from Detroit like the Dramatics, Enchantments, Chapter 8 (Anita Baker), Floaters, Fantastic Four, just countless others they grew up together formed amazing groups and legendary music history especially in Detroit and around the world I had the best time ever growing up to all of them especially The Dramatics ❤❤🎤🎵🎵
Dramatics member Larry Reed's story regarding his encounter w/rogue police officers at the Algiers Motel during the Detroit riots in 1967 was the focus of the movie Detroit. The incident changed his life and he quit the group. Police murdered several innocent black men and tried to cover it up. They let Reed go after he promised he wouldn't speak on it. He was later called to testify at their trial. The officers were acquitted. Reed was traumatized and never sang w/the group again.
The name Dramatics was an appropriate name for this very talented theatrical group. Squirrel, actually choreographed their performances and he choose their outfits. Know one can deny Ron Banks incredible falsetto voice, and William Howard AKA Wheezie's ability to interpret and deliver the emotions as the lead vocalist on the songs "In the Rain," and "What you see, is what you get" was absolutely mesmerizing. I also love, Hey you get off my mountain. They were definitely underrated. I still enjoy listening to their songs ❤❤❤❤❤
Great video coverage Brither 💯 The Dramatics got a hell of alot of Air Play in Chicago. They were right there with the Temptation in singing harmony dancand showmanship. My favorite is Those stars in your eyes 👀 ✨️
The member change ‘shake up’ happened in the middle of one their albums. William ‘Wee Gee’ Howard sang the chorus on ‘Hey You Get Off My Mountain’ but by the time it was released and played in the airwaves he had already left the group. L.J. Reynolds lip synced ‘Wee Gee’ parts on T.V. programs but only briefly. In fact there are two versions of their song ‘Toast To The Fool’. First version on 45 single contains ‘Wee Gee’, the album version came out a little later had L.J. Reynolds singing(not lip syncing) ‘Wee Gee’ ‘s part.
Awesome!🎉Another STELLAR Presentation, Love!♥️👏🏼I Enjoyed the Honor of having worked With, The Dramatics! Ron Banks, Lenny Mays, LJ Reynolds, Willie Ford; and other Super Talented Members throughout the Years, With Our Family, "Add Love Productions!"™️ I also have had the Honor of working with Mr. James Brown, Michael Jackson; and Many other Legendary Recording Artist. Thanks for your great presentation. The Dramatics were fantastic. This story demonstrates that Detroit had so much more than Motown. Golden World, Revilot were examples of great labels brimming with talent that Gordy swallowed up before he fled for California at the end of the sixties
The Dramatics auditioned for Motown but were rejected. The group were caught up in the riots that happened in Detroit in the summer of 1967. They were appearing in the local theatre and staying at the Algiers Motel which was a central spot of the troubles where a series of violent Incidents occurred and their valet was murdered by the Police. This event is a central feature in the 2017 Kathryn Bigelow movie DETROIT
