I haven't taken mine off in fear of breaking something when others just ripped it off. But with this it easily popped off with very little force and a satisfying pop. Almost as satisfying as opening a roll of Pillsbury dough

Best tutorial I've see, as someone else said. It's so easy, but if someone doesn't explain it right, you feel like you're going to break it. You were very clear, took your time but didn't go painfully slow. Just clear and concise. Thank you.

Got mine used and the previous owner hadn't cleaned up the console, so I was happy to see how easy it was to take apart and get rid of the dust. This was the best guide I found to help me take off the faceplates without destroying them
thank you for specifically mentioning the sliding part. i knew from other videos it’s not just popping it off cause i did it before, but no one mentions you have to pull up GENTLY while sliding down. don’t just pull up and pop it open you’ll break the locking mechanisms that keep it in place!

The sliding down part is so key. Comes off instantly, thanks! Would definitely have snapped the pegs just pulling it up with force
For the people who were not taking the cover off in fear of it breaking. I was on the same boat. I used the corner head from a vacuum to pick up any dust that I could see from the grills. That worked pretty well for me. Still not sure what to do about the middle part though, but yea.
I take mine off every week to clean it I bought a air blower for cleaning it and it gets all the dust out with no damage or dust left behind

A lifetime of, "Don't take the console apart or you'll mess it up, void warranty etc" bad mojo really made me nervous about removing the panels. I wanted to expand my storage as well as install new plates with better ventilation. I'm glad I found your video. Very easy to follow and I did it without breaking anything. If I had just pulled like a lot of people say to do, it would be of been disastrous.
Great job explaining how to do it. Feels so simple now. Good to know in case the barrage of tutorials explaining how to update the internal storage (once Sony updates everything and everyone) brush over how to open the console to begin with.

Short and simple tutorial. The up and slide technique made it easy to understand and showed just how simple it was to actually remove the plates. Other tutorials would either just pop it off quickly without explaining and just saying "it pops right off." I was scared to break the plates before this tutorial.

Not only does this help in cleaning the fan more easily, it also means you don't have to worry about voiding a warrenty too unlike the PS4/Slim/Pro.

Thanks a bunch for the quick video on how to remove and install the side plates. I got some black ones from Amazon for my new PS5 disc edition but needed to see it in action on how to go about it. After a bit of adjustments in making sure the spikes aligned everything came out perfect and I'm now rocking on a black PS5. I saved my original side plates in storage.

Had my ps5 since launch and although I'm in a very clean house the ps5 was full of dust already, this thing must suck in alot of air to have that amount inside already. For comparison my launch ps4 Pro has less dust inside and that was only ever opened once at the same time I did the ps5.

I was actually scared trying this out, as to everybody else, for not trying to break the interior of the plate covers, but this method actually slid it off easily without worry. It's been over a year now since I've had my PS5 and luckily there wasn't much dust inside. I needed to install my new M.2 SSD inside for this reason since I don't enough space on my storage now

They're just the generic faceplate brown box panels that we had at the local mom-and-pop video game store. You can find these plates on eBay for 30 to $40.

They do have a little bit of light bleed from the LEDs. The more expensive one are thicker plastic so they don't have that but I don't mind because I keep mine horizontal and the light bleed with red panels actually looks kinda cool.

Thanks for this video my son was just notice the dust bunny’s on the outside and I figured wasn’t that bad then I glanced inside and was like whoa 😳 didn’t know how to take off the side and didn’t know you could but glad I did and cleaned it. Buy maguires 2.0 scratch remover .same thing has happened and now im waitin for the scratch remover to come.it actually isnt a scratch that u made.its a paint transfer this mean the paint from the white plate went on to you ps5.the maguires scratch remover helps on cars when theres a paint transfer also and paint transfers on cars look exactly the sameand ive seem people use this product to take the paint transfer of their cars so it should work hopefully 🤞

This video was way more helpful than anything I’ve seen Sony put out officially, they make it sound like plates easily slide right off, but it feels like something might break!
