I bought the RC-5 yesturday and have spent most of today playing around with it. The default drums are loud but they can be easily lowered in the settings and your loop volume can be adjusted easily too. Its a great little unit and definitely well worth the money.

I bought one of these right when they dropped and it’s awesome. The quality of the audio is night and day compared to other loopers. I love this pedal and it’s by far my favorite looper.

    Nice review, thanks!
Is the pressing on the footswitch easy? That is not too high, not needing to travel to much? As the "normal" non-Boss footswitches seem to me shorter

I own one and use it all the time!! Without a doubt, it’s the best Compact RC :) I own the RC-3 and it’s still a good pedal but the new is much easier to use! The screen is great! Sound quality is superior! This makes it much better for recording

Does the knob of the rc5 also function as a volume output control such as wifh the rc3? Thanks

@@Maxi_Me yea, you can change the volume of the drums and the loop with the silver knob.

But one thing I don’t like is that I filled all 99 memory slots and I backed all of them up so now I’d Love to be able to take all my favorite loops out of those first 99 and put them back on the rc 5, but I just want a few of them back on my rc 5, The problem that I am having is that i am not able to pull tracks individually with the data for that track, as in there is not one data file per track and all the data (tempo, drum track, levels, settings etc……) for each track are contained in the same file, so I can’t take a loop so basically if I want all those settings back I’d have to put all 99 loops back on the pedal and I have tried just taking the wave files out, and it will cause the pedal to glitch out when you go to record on an empty track because it still has that data file on the pedal witch is telling the pedal that there is a track there but it gets confused because there is no wave file so when you hit record it will get stuck on record, this is kinda very unintuitive and a really ass backwards way to go about being able to back up tracks, this complicated problem has a very simple solution, and it wouldn’t be a problem if each track had its own individual data file in the same or different folder of the track, so idk what to do other than just to back up every 99 loops. Maybe it can be fixed in a firmware update, also they need to add a global drum level setting because 100 is too high for a default level at least for me it is, of course I could change it each time I’m on a different slot but it would be really convenient if we were able to set a default level, I’m hoping for a big firmware update in the future because they still have some bugs to workout.

RC-5 is ok for home practice or live if there are other instrument player accompanying your performance. Solo performing or with another bass player (that may also be running an RC-5, is definitely better off running an RC-10R, which sounds and chimes so much better than a basic RC-5. Both have their place in different settings and are priced accordingly. Check out the RC-10R and Boss 200 series, then MIDI control them all together. The RC-505 V2 is also nice for studio desktop arrangements, but wow Boss, good gear. Can't wait to buy them all!

Would you recommend this for an intermediate guitar and pianist but beginner looper for writing and jamming? I will likely be using a DAW for the foreseeable future as I do not perform but my dream would be to eventually move to live multiple instruments at which time I suspect the 505 level of looper will be what I move on to. If the RC5 is overkill, I’m thinking about the RC1. I just want something that is future proof, sounds good and has everything I might need.

@@chrisjamesies Hi. I'm starting to setup my own mini studio for teaching my children. A pianist can use an arranger keyboard with inbuilt chord accompaniment, but if you're practising alone, you'll want your own stomp looper. The RC1 has no memory and is only good for on-the-fly looping. As for the RC5, it's a good tool for keeping your practice timing and saving to memory for recall. The 10R is much better for auto sync and does little auto fills as well and much better for your needs. Definitely the RC10R is icing on the cake you won't regret. Both of the later have MIDI. As for the 505 V2, it's not a stomp pedal and useless if you want to do looping practice with an instrument. It is only suited to DAW mixing and combining samples, which a DAW can do, but a DAW is not a physical tool as such and doesn't have the ease of mixing capacity the 505 V2 offers. If you just want drum beats to play along to you can get an iPad loaded with FL Studio and use Garage Band but you have to set it up first which is messing about but custom too. From the tablet you use a camera dongle so you then have USB and power for the tablet, which is your host device. There is a USB hub... TP-Link UH720. This is your tablet power and data storage hub with USB flash drives or portable SSD. If the piano has USB MIDI, you can plug your keyboard into this hub and run whatever MIDI apps you like (this is a very cool thing). You could assign a MIDI stomp pedal via USB to the tablet as well. Even if via wifi to the hub. These ideas are alternatives to what you need if on a budget and can't decide. But at the same time you'll open up the keyboard too. A small analog mixer from Allen & Heath with USB (to hub) will also be required. But to wind back, if you want a cheap looper for solo practice, use the RC5 and RC10R if you don't take the tablet route. RC5 is not that good imo. Have a think about your budget and versatility of your setup. How far do you want to go with it, your budget and expectations. Hope this helps.

@@Shaker4x4 thank you very much for your input! I actually did end up picking up the RC 5 today. Reason being I wanted something with a little more features and 32 bit processing, all while being able to learn and practice guitar looping. Once I get these things down I will move on to what seems fitting when I get there! Thanks again.

@@chrisjamesies I think there will be an RC5 V2 or RC6 soon, as there are couple of important features missing that the RC10R has, which players are demanding. Enjoy your new toy! It's still great bang for buck.

I've had a 10R and it sounded way too processed so it got sold, I never had the RC-5 but judging only by the videos it sound way more natural then the 10R. I'm planning on getting the RC-5 in the near future

I've had MANY loopers, three this year alone..... boss my favorite. I've purchased two RC-5 about a year apart. This second one seems to have a volume issue with the drum tracks being excessivly LOUD! since I never experienced the problem with the first RC-5 ..... I'm gluessing the second one might be damaged? I have tried finding a global volume control with no avail. I ran a factory reset twice, with no change. I hate to sell it and pass on the problem to someone else, I also hate to take a $175 dollar loss! Any thoughts?

Hi, i need help with my RC 5...
Why does the tempo change by itself without me touching it when a loop or a new layer ends? Example I put my tempo at 85 I make my loop on this same tempo I go in overdub I start a new layer and there when I finish it the tempo changed all alone for example in 87.5 or less or more... I do not understand... is there a setting so that the tempo does not move? An explanation? Maybe an issue with the rc 5 that is not working?
