This is a more in-depth look at Rush. It is a story about a man whose hubris led to the death of the trusting passengers, including a trusting teenager. A sad story, indeed.
I am waiting to see two key data sets: The official transcripts of the ship to sub comms and the analysis of the onboard data and telemetry (if there is any). Given Rush's corner cutting ways, I can only hope there is data still available from the recovered electronics and hardware systems... This accident was preventable and a warning that a safety culture is non-negotiable with deep diving, just as it is in my own industry of spaceflight.
well the submersible industry obviously needs an overhaul in the way it conducts its operations. There's no point in warning him , the whole company should have been scrutinized and not allowed to offer its services to paying customers until everything is above board. In a carnival, a ride gets stopped immediately and inspected by engineers if there's any issues with the ride. It wont be allowed to continue operating until it gets the thumbs up from engineers. It wont be up to the discretion of parks management whether or not the ride continues, yet this scenario is exactly what happened here. No point in making one man a scapegoat when so many who could have taken action did nothing. Even the companies boast that the Titan was worked on with the collaboration of Nasa and Boeing on its website was a lie, yet neither company took action to have this removed, Only after the tragedy did they distance themselves from these claims made by the company. HALLO. Shame on them for keeping mum all that time. Any lay person reading that would have believed it including the passengers who died.
@@MrArdytube Well the submersible industry has has an impeccable safety record. Just so we're clear, what stockton rush actually told david pogue was, "...safety... just is... pure waste." Stockton had told another interviewer that the submersible was "extremely safe"... During the interview OUTSIDE of the vessel, pogue told stockton that some components seemed "macguyvered", and stockton said, "I wouldn't say that" ( or words to that effect). When pogue & stockton were INSIDE of the vessel, pogue, again, mentioned some of the vessel components being "macguyvered & jerry-rigged", and stockton said, "yeah... pretty much". That begs the question, "so which one is it, Rush?" Stockton neither listened to himself nor seasoned, experienced experts. My assessment is that stockton wanted to be the underwater elon musk, richard branson or jeff bezos. Stockton's vessel was an oversized bath toy. It's a wonder that thing didn't implode earlier.
