I read that he wrote it for a fellow soldier, an American woman who was deeply traumatized. She eventually died due drug use to cope. This one kills me.
James Blunt "If Time is All I Have" is another must see for you Guys 👍 Looking Forward to more of your Reactions 😊 Keep Up the Good Works Both of You 👊😉
I feel that this song actually has two stories to tell. One is the story in the video, the lost soldier, carrying the personal effects back to their family. The thing that probably every military family dreads. The second if you listen carefully to the lyrics, is about a friend, a female American soldier, who fell on hard times, presumably after her time in the military had ended, perhaps due to ill health, drugs, PTSD, who knows. They struggled with it for a long time, gradually wearing her down despite attempts to get away from her problems that in the end claimed her life and all her friend can do is be there for her, watching her die and offer the comfort of promising to make sure her remains/effects get back home afterwards. A situation I fear that all too many veterens face after they leave the military. As great as Monsters is, I think this song actually hits harder for me, partly because of the double meaning, both heart breaking, but also because the life that is lost is not someone at the end of thier life, who has lived a full life, but someone who didnt get a fair deal, had a hard life that ended in tragedy, far too young. Anyway, credit to James Blunt, a master at work.
Actually the song is written about his friend! His friend died and lost his life during the balcan conflict! His friend wanted his personal belongings to be delivered to his fiancé and who was pregnant at the time of his death!
@@danielhjelmberg1173 Whilst the video supports that interpretation, the lyrics don't as the person who dies is clearly female, "And summers little girl was taken from the world tonight." Which is why I said the song has two stories. The central message remains the same, a last act of respect for a fallen friend.
Having now listened to this many times, I can only agree with most of your observations Grimlar. I cried at Monsters on a personal level, but this broke my heart for those who have suffered through losing someone or not fulfilling their life through tragedy. I interpret that It was written for an American female colleague who didn't return to her female partner and it was James who watched her breath her last breath, before bringing her home. James Blunt is an exceptional writer and performer, who for some unjustified reason is much maligned by some of the British Press. I wouldn't have thought of listening to him again if it wasn't for reaction videos like this (thank you Real Reactions) which honestly made me rethink my interpretation of his lyrics.
Apparently when James was at war in Afghanistan he actually did carry the personal effects of a fallen soldier and friend home to the soldiers widow. Like "Monsters" both based on personal situations. He is awesome simply awesome. His voice carries so much empathy and feeling.
Hey there guys from Northern Ireland 🇮🇪, just recently subscribed to your channel, really enjoy your content, if you get a chance please react to James Blunt - "No Bravery" , thanks Michael 🙂🇮🇪
James wrote these song after his tour of duty in the Balkan conflict in 1999, he was a tank commander , and he saw war in the raw
I read that he wrote it for a fellow soldier, an American woman who was deeply traumatized. She eventually died due drug use to cope. This one kills me.
For me this man writes some of the best lyrics in the music industry.

The video is even greater than the song. It's about his time in the Army. Sad but true story

Yes I agree
I recommend you a song he wrote and sing as well, which is a tribute to Whitney Houston called "Miss America".Its beautiful!!
A suggestion? Make the movie big, yourselves small. We're here to watch the song. All power to you. Hooray!
1973 is good also by Mr Blunt
UK artists are self deprecating, it's one of the main reasons our music touches others. Try no bravery by james blunt
