James did watch her breathing for the last time he was her commander and had to return last letter and dog tags. James was so real with his words and all his songs for 20 years.
I don't know if this has already been said, but yes, this is 100% from James Blunt's own experience. Both he and his father served in the British army, and James saw action in the Kosovo war - this song is a true-life account of when a young American female soldier died in his arms, and he was tasked with informing the parents of her passing. James is actually a real-life war hero; he was awarded a commendation for refusing to follow the orders of a field-marshal to launch an attack - he was initially going to be court-martialled for it, until it was discovered that, if he HAD followed those orders, a lot of civilian lives would've been lost and, as one general put it "it would've started World War Three."
Wow that is incredible thank you so much for sharing this and God bless! If you haven't seen yet, I have covered a ton of James Blunt videos so far make sure to check out my reaction playlist!
Thanks for the great reaction! I am now in a very reflective mood, which is not a bad thing...solemn, but many memories (mainly good ones) of the people in my own life that are no longer living in this world, yet still live on, inside my heart.
Well, when I made this request I said I would tell you more about it in the comments. The video follows Blunt as he travels through England to deliver a dead soldier's personal effects to his wife. There are re-created shots of the battle as well, which use actual troops from a nearby base. There is one brief glimpse of the male soldier who has been killed. There is a strange verse in the middle of the song that doesn't seem to fit: And they were all born pretty In New York City tonight And someone’s little girl was taken from the world tonight Under the stars and stripes Some have said from seeing an interview with James, ‘It was concerning a female US soldier he personally knew that died in Kosovo and he became quite emotive about it when pressed and wouldn’t elaborate further….’ The lines in the chorus: As strong as you were Tender you go I'm watching you breathing for the last time are apparently about the death of his friend, a female soldier. He wept over her dying body and promised to take her back to New York to her parents, which he did. I think that writing this song and then filming it about a different soldier's death was the only way he could find to express his grief over his real friend’s death😣
First off I apologize for the video getting to you late it stopped uploading for some reason. Secondly, thank you so much for all this info and the xtra comments. I love getting the background stories on songs. God Bless and thanks again for this powerful song.
@@gametchanger Oh goodness, no need to apologize. I know you do the best you can! 😊 I’m just happy that you appreciated another of James Blunt’s songs. 👍
Thanks for the info. Sitting here empathizing. So many memories of lives that are no longer in MY life--some from wars, some from accidents, some from a ton of other reasons (including natural aging and death). There are always the little pockets of grief that they're no longer there, yet thankfully there are also the memories that make me smile, that bring comfort, and sometimes also bring prayers to my heart and lips, for families who are missing their loved ones. Thanks for requesting that song. 😪
It was her the soldier, when he came up on her she was still alive hence I'm watching you breathing for the last time ...he had her personal effects look at the picture in her personal effects..it's the same picture of the sky n clouds he walks up to deliver the effects to her when she realizes she is dying n in her mind she was home n not at war alone by nothing familiar .
Not his wife though. His wife is the granddaughter of the last Duke of Wellington ( I think). She’s an aristocratic blond about 6” taller than James. 🤷♀️
I don't usually comment but I listened to your comments with this video and something you said about losing your husband or wife is the worst thing... I am sorry I have to disagree losing your child is the worst thing you could ever experience. I haven't lost a child and I can only thank god for that but I lost my beautiful mum and 3 of my brothers and living every day without them is so hard but do so for the rest of my families.
I agree with you 100%. I just had my first boy and I couldn't imagine losing him. Im sorry to hear about your family and I am praying now for you. God Bless
I appreciate you being civil. Jesus saved my soul so it's the way I'm gonna run the channel. You are welcome to check it out anytime you want. God Bless!

Please listen to “no bravery “. Contains Jans’s video diary when he was shipped to the Balkans. Really shows the futility of war.

James Blunt was in the British army tank division
Thank you for sharing. Yes this is powerful.

Video filmed near me...
No way that's wild. Where was this filmed if you don't mind me asking? God bless!
this story is the death of his best mate he then has to inform his mate wife
The dead soldier is clearly female in the video . And the lyrics imply it’s female soldier.
Try James Blunt the girl that never was
Already done make sure to check out my James Blunt reaction playlist. God Bless!
