Goodbye My Lover is another powerfully emotional song and it was recorded in Princess Leia's bathroom. James Blunt lodged with Carrie Fisher while making his first album and they moved the piano into the bathroom because the acoustics were so good.
James served for 6 years, ultimately rising to the rank of captain. His father was a colonel, and he comes from a long lineage of soldiers. He also may have prevented World War 3 because he was ordered to use deadly force against a small group of Russian soldiers who were occupying an airport, and he refused the order at the risk of a court martial until a different general backed him up. James also gives generously to Help for Heroes and Doctors Without Borders. When James sings "He has been here" I interpret "he" as being the personification of war. When he says that he sees "no bravery in your eyes anymore, only sadness" I think he may be looking in a mirror, or into the eyes of comrades who joined the military with ideas of bravery or glory in battle, only to be confronted with horrors that haunt vets for the rest of their lives. James performed this song live at the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony.
He knows what he sang. He was there in 1999 in Kosovo. Show the official video to this song, than you see, what he saw. CARRY YOU HOME must be the next step. Wishes from Germany
100% Britain went into the Balkan war to stop genocide, but war is war and our soldiers went through a lot. We were on the right side of good in the war, but soldiers saw a lot of bad stuff
Thank you for your comment and letting me know about this. You summed it up perfectly. War is necessary when stopping evil but there are lives on the line and alot of pain. God Bless and prayers for our soldiers.
NATO came too late. vukovar, srebrenica, zvornik, skabrnja sarajevo and many others had to happen since 1991 to 1998 that NATO finaly reacts. srebrenica was UN and NATO fault... we all saw them as saviours and heros but harsh reality quickly catched us.. it was to late to stop anything, genocide already happend thanks to UN doing nothing. at least they learned their lesson with us and reacted with ukraine. those soldiers saw too many stuff and could do nothing, coz their hands were tide, big fishes were makig all of the decisions, thaz why srebrenica happened, thanks to akashi who refused to send planes, when finaly he said to send planes it was too late. vukovar was first victim, since the day city felt i never put my foot into that city ever again, where i was born and growing up, to many traumatic memories.. peple were dragged from hospital and basements and shelters in front of UN officials and they done nothing. we all were ra*d, tort*ed, and many other stuff no matter the age or gender. no one gave a flaying duck.. as long as there are people willing to be soldiers and go to wars there will be wars. and wars usually attrack very sick and disturbed people, who see war as their dreams come true. so they prevented nothing, abosolutly nothing, they only prevented that kosovo be next vukovar or srebrenica and yet somehow it still happened.. but ok, west people had no wars since ww2 and have generations since 1945 who have no clue what war is, how amies works and how politics work in wars. wars are business for many.. i love james, love and hate this song in a same ime, coz it gets back all those feelings of hate, pure hate, rage, fear wich i burried deep down in me. i suffer from complex ptsd since age 9 and cant see a soldier, cant stand a soldier, when i see a soldier i want to puke, i get sick, paranoid, anxeous, scared like i am again 9 years old and they yell orders at me to take my clohs off, to bend over, to kneel, to put my hands behind back, to sit, cant stand them. west people live in a delusion of glory armies, glorifing their armies and soldiers, we done same, until it came, until bunch of soldiers done su unspeakbel crimes, not to mention that foregien forces who came and we saw them as saviours, many of us all over former yugoslavia were everything but saviours, well lets just say my friend was 12 and was in sarajevo whole time, he knew which un soldiers will give sandwich for BJ, bag of chips for HJ, full meal for AI or VI, wich ones preffers girls, wich one preffes boys, wich one preffers adults ( men or women), wich one preffers under 15, under 12 etc... you have no clue about anything...
Agreed! One of the things I keep stressing to fellow Christians, is that we need to NOT dwell in or live "forever" with sorrow, to the point of depression and giving up. Sorrow needs to be recognized, of course, but we need to give it over to God, and ask for His direction for the next steps. GOD WINS over everything the devil sends our way to try to "wear us out." We need to take the wisdom, strength, and bravery He offers, and proceed forward with, letting them shine out of us. He is the LIGHT and the LIFE, and we need to be reflecting THOSE things--not death, darkness, and everlasting sorrow. Scripture (the devil is always trying to wear out the saints): Daniel 7 (the whole chapter, but SPECIFICALLY, verses 23-27) That scripture is prophetic of Jesus. If you read the whole thing carefully, you can see the story. It's when people don't realize that--though Jesus has already fulfilled the old covenant--in the new covenant (of which we are part and parcel--there is no covenant, without us) He is still living and presenting to us the fact that He (our whole triune God--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) is our "all in all." In HIM, there is no darkness. In HIM, there is no losing. GOD WINS! We need to be listening to Him and worshiping Him on a daily basis (personally, I would say minute-by-minute)...ABSOLUTELY. We also do need to KNOW what's going on around us (thus the recent movie that is now waking up a LOT of people), so that we know what it is we're need to stand against, in the world today. However, we also need to understand that God uses people on Earth to DO the things that need to be DONE on Earth. I'm not saying that He doesn't do totally miraculous things, because He absolutely DOES! What I'm saying is that in many cases, we get bad things that have been coming down the road, jumping on top of us and at least trying to smother us, and we let them defeat us. THOSE THINGS, we need to resist, IN THE NAME OF JESUS, who has been given the NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES. If we let BRAVERY and TRUST in that wonderful name dwell in our hearts, they will shine out of our eyes, and then we can proceed...no matter what. Period. There was a song back in the 90s that talked about [a number of] brave [Roman] soldiers confined on an icy lake with no food, etc., in order to force them to disavow their Lord. I can see the picture it creates in my mind, but I can't think of the name of the song. My daughter and her husband are the same...we all remember the theme, but... Anyway, if you listen closely to either Sabaton or Dan Vasc's version of "The Last Stand," you can hear that it basically tells the same type of story--the Roman government trying to get rid of the Christians, and the soldiers for the people, fighting back. It's THAT type of bravery that we see in soldiers who go out to fight the fight that the main body of people wouldn't be able to do--physically. As part of the main body of people, though, every single person has the ability to stand strong in the spirit (in the face of the devil) for the Lord and His ways. That's what the old song, "Stand Up, Stand Up, for Jesus!" is all about. Fountainview Academy (on RUclips) has a really great version of that song--using the original words. They also have a fabulous version of "Onward Christian Soldiers," blended with "God So Loved the World." It takes faith and determination, but we NEED to see more of that in the eyes of people all over the world right now. James Blunt and Dan Vasc are very obviously two (of the many) who are picking up the challenge to people everywhere, to leave the fear behind, and be strong in the Lord.
The videos in the background is real footage from Kosovo. The Army and James went there as peace keepers. If you are interested to get to know James better and learn more about his time in the Kosovo - Serbia War ( when he says HE HAS BEEN HERE he is referring to War ) in 1999 you will appreciate the small series that was made about James called '' the return to Kosovo '' its 4 episodes. Fun fact the lyrics '' Fathers lost without a trace '' is about a guy he knows and he is his tour guide in the series. He found his father 5 years later through genetic testing (or something like that ). As an Albanian I love seeing reactions to James Blunt and I enjoyed yours a lot thank you.😊
Actually “he” represents the war. So evil isn’t totally right. War is most certainly horrible and it’s truly sad that there still is war. The video in the background was a video diary James Blunt did while in the military. So this is what he experienced. It must have been traumatizing. He is very strong. He was a captain and also had to kill people in order to save many others. The British army was there to stop a genocide but the Soldiers still had to sacrifice lives in order to stop the genocide.
The official video makes the video more obvious, it was part of his video diary of his time as a tank commander in Kosovo. My take on this is that he's talking about his fellow soldiers. They go out feeling brave, but it turns to sadness. I studied the First World War poets for my Eng Lit exam and it tells the truth of war.
You have completely misunderstood this. The main context is not war, but ethnic cleansing. The NATO troops faced no real opposition in their peacekeeping. They did face sniggering from those who had been doing the ethnic cleansing. No bravery involved in those doing the ethnic cleansing.
Before anything else, let me say how sorry I am that you have had recent pain, and I hope our efforts on your behalf have helped to ease it. Thank you so much for your reaction to this deep and powerful song. I know you could feel the impact of the horror of war. I have also read that the “he” in “he has been here” may refer to war itself, but as war is only a symptom of the greatest evil I will stay with my original interpretation. Blunt served six years in the British military and was a Captain in charge of British forces during the Pristina Airport Incident, which you can read about on Wikipedia. During that incident Blunt refused a direct order from a superior officer, which could have resulted in a court martial. Instead, the other officer was quickly replaced and some credit Blunt’s action with preventing a Third World War. He carried his guitar with him while deployed with the NATO Peacekeeping Force, and wrote No Bravery while he was in Kosovo. The chorus, “No bravery, only sadness” is thought to refer to what he saw on the faces of the victims of war, as you said, and also to the faces of his fellow soldiers after they witnessed the results of such atrocities. At the same time, he is able to joke that he had to strap his guitar to the outside of the tank because there was no room inside and none of his men would let him put them out there. There are so many great choices in almost 20 years of Blunt’s recording career, but keeping with this theme I think my next Reactr request will be for Carry You Home. I'll have the tissues ready... 😢❤️

If This Is Goodbye, a duet with Emmylou Harris, which Knopfler wrote after hearing about the last phone messages victims of 9-11 sent their loved ones.
@@gametchanger This song had nothing to do with Jesus. If at all then that faith wasn’t enough in this scenario and that there was no hope anymore.
