Thanks for the reaction, Matt! James and Carrie met through mutual friends at a restaurant in London at the very start of his career, back in 2002. He mentioned that he had just landed a recording contract and was moving to L.A. Carrie told him to stay at her house, and their friendship was born. He lived at her house whenever he was in L.A. from that time until her death in 2016. James recorded "Goodbye My Lover" in her bathroom, and she is the Godmother to one of his sons. He has referred to Carrie as his "American mother." This song is based on actual events. James has told the story of going to her house some time after she died and finding the gate locked. He started to cry against the gate and was telling Carrie how much he missed her, when a bus full of tourists pulled up and the tour guide announced that this was the late, great Carrie Fisher's house, and seeing James crying said, "As you can see, her fans are still deeply moved by her passing."
Fisher had a close relationship with English singer-songwriter James Blunt. While working on his album Back to Bedlam in 2003, Blunt spent much of his time at Fisher's residence. When Vanity Fair's George Wayne asked Fisher if their relationship was sexual, she replied: "Absolutely not, but I did become his therapist. He was a soldier. This boy has seen awful stuff. Every time James hears fireworks or anything like that, his heart beats faster and he gets 'fight or flight.' You know, he comes from a long line of soldiers dating back to the 10th century. He would tell me these horrible stories. He was a captain, a reconnaissance soldier. I became James' therapist. So it would have been unethical to sleep with my patient….
Such a raw song but beautiful too. You should look up james blunt cover of Brucespringsteen dancing in the dark to hear his vocals it’s brilliant. Another is the version of no bravery for radio 2 he did in his house it’s so honest and raw too. ❤❤
I might be wrong but I think that unfortunately she already passed when his son was born. He asked her to be godmother so she would have something to live for, but he stated that it unfortunately never came to that and that his son couldn’t meet her.
