The letter he delivered was the letter that we all had to write, as our final words and love to our families, before we deployed to war in the military, in case we never came back. I wrote mine when I was 17 years old, and It was just a few paragraphs to my Mum and Dad telling them that I loved them and could never ask for better parents, that I enjoyed growing up with them and there was nothing I would have changed. Some of the lads had to write 5 or 6 separate letters...for their wife, for each of their children and for any other family. Some guys did not have to write anything, they had no family or loved ones.
I personally think that is the HARDEST thing to ever do. Going to a person and telling them their loved one will not be coming home. Delivering the bad news. Respect to those who can do it.
Thanks for your reaction. He has a lot of great songs. No bravery, bonfire heart, same mistake, the greatest, someone singing along, No Tears, Youngster... and many more ❤
Lucie, He is one of the few who puts his real feelings and emotions in music. All from his personal experiences. A very underrated writer who has been quietly working for 20 years. A very intelligent man. Interviewers favourite candidate.
Lucie, you obviously appreciate the way James emotionally attaches his music, building a story that you feel part of. Can I recommend "Goodbye My Love" and his newest "The Girl That Never Was"
As far as I remember the story behind this song, he volunteered to do it. The soldier who died was an American, and he met up with her family in, I believe, New York state.
I am sooo glad you are reacting to more of James Blunt, he has so many great songs, hoping you'll react to his song "If Time is All I Have" and many more. I hope you enjoy 💛🇬🇧
Blunt was an officer in the British Army Life Guards, a cavalry regiment of the British Army, and served under NATO in Kosovo during the conflict in 1999.
To add to some of the comments below, whilst we do go, its for many personal reasons. Yes its tough, however what struck me the most was returning. The experiences actually highlighted the fact that our societies have been cheapened with trite none events that have been escalated beyond reason. I hear folks getting hyper upset about things that in reality mean nothing. Sad really that folks are so insulated they need to conflate to make things appear relevant. As for JB, he has this ability to condense into 3-4 minutes a host of relevant feelings and emotions. Lyrics are pure poetry.
I looked up this songs meaning. It’s actually about someone he love’s suffering addiction. Listen to the lyrics. It’s about her. He never turns his back on her. No matter where she ends up. He’ll carry her home. She loses her battle with addiction.

Nobody makes emotional songs better than James. His new song is a really hard one. The girl that never was.
It is amazing how he can bring that much emotion through a song. One of a kind.

I have no doubt that James Blunt has had to make a trip like this for real.
As far as I remember the story behind this song, he volunteered to do it. The soldier who died was an American, and he met up with her family in, I believe, New York state.

James Blunt was in the Tank regiment of the British Army
Blunt was an officer in the British Army Life Guards, a cavalry regiment of the British Army, and served under NATO in Kosovo during the conflict in 1999.
He does make some miserable songs, but he does them very well. He was a tank commander in the british army so it could well be personal
You should react on the video the girl that never was. Its about a personal experience to

This song is brilliant but it unsettles me at the same time.

And all we ask in return is to support and respect us, the number of veterans committing suicide for all the reasons you stated is devastating.
