The reason you love his voice is its full of emotion. To get the full effect is to watch his concert videos. So much better.this man has gone thru he'll and back. His music is therapy to him and others.
Her wife lived in uk and he was captain so had to return many letters and dog tags back to many his song was so beautiful and representative of how many people don’t realise woman also die in war not all soldiers are male. Women fight beside men and equally die.
@@ReactionsThatRock The above poster is correct. This song was inspired by an incident that JB witnessed. The soldier was not under his command or even British. Hence the reference to lost daughter and "under the stars and stripes" as the lost soldier was US Forces. I don't believe he was actually present at the incident but he certainly saw the repatriation to the United States. Immaterial to an extant as it is certainly applicable to all lost servicemen/women. Interesting how our tastes in music change over time is it not?
Almost right ,it's her laying their dying in combat her mind wanders home when he came upon her she was still breathing when he handed her the pictures and dog tag he was telling her it's ok he will take her body home .
Man, I have been a James Blunt fan for 10 years and believe me, if there is anyone in the industry with the ability to make fun of himself, it is James Blunt, and yeah, it is very common for him to make fun of "You're Beautiful" in interviews and even in his lyrics, this guy literally made a documentary called "One Brit Wonder", what I want to say is that everything is fine with your past reaction, I enjoyed it a lot and those who were offended don't know the meaning of it humor from James, Greetings from Mexico
I appreciate the kind words! People take things way too seriously these days. I’m happy to hear James is a level headed guy with a sense of humor. It’s still odd to me that I couldn’t stand him 20 years ago and I really like him now. I guess I grew up just a bit.
@@ReactionsThatRock I felt EXACTLY the same way about that first song... then I saw all of these and now am a huge James Blunt fan. I even went back and listened to "You're Beautiful" and now I like that one, too -- who knew? Jsmes convinced me with his album where he mostly put what he experienced in the Balkan war into songs. The song „he has been here“ (don’t know the actual name right now, where he talks about what he has seen) is so sad and great as well….
As someone from northern NJ right outside of NYC .... where we often get described as obnoxious, etc ... I appreciate hearing from a jerk. Kind of feels like home. I really appreciated your comments about the song. I usually don't like "emotional' songs - default to Funk or Indie but the way James Blunt really does go right to the core of really emotional issues ... forcing all of us to acknowledge their reality ... that's an unbelievable strength in today's music world. And his voice and musicianship seems to match his poetic soul
I spent a lot of my youth in Boston. Make of that what you will. 🤣😎 I also spent a short time in Edison, NJ. Not as jerky as one might expect based on stereotypes. I used to avoid emotion (and Folk / Indie) but I’m getting older and it’s so odd to see my tastes change. I’m really digging Vermont style folk and James Blunt. Never thought that would be the case… like… ever.
*I hated his songs too back in the day. All these years later now I know. It came from jealousy for me personally, the guy is a talented singer & is more man than I could hope to be, he served his country, saw battle, lost people & came back & released Back To Bedlam & although I still protest that some of the songs were played TOO MUCH on the radio back then, but I appreciate his music now 20 years later after experiencing life more.*
Happy to see I’m not alone. Like you, I blame radio for over saturation. Great singer/songwriter but the music machine behind him just beat us over the head with You’re Beautiful every chance they got. 🤷♂️🤣
@@ReactionsThatRock I think radio hosts especially in Britain don't understand moderation is key. I remember sitting in the waiting room of a doctors for 3 damned hours & CFM was playing & the song came on no less than 3 times, I was pulling my hair out the when it started for the 2nd time. Was only worth it because the doctor discovered I had Meningitis. Not fun.
I get the feeling that she had already received the official notification of his death. I think that was why she seems depressed and the line about no one having anything to say, because no one ever knows what to say and especially if you are around a lot of other military spouses, they’re just relieved it’s not them. I think he is bringing the last letter from her husband, and other personal effects.
That makes a whole lot of sense. I spent the first half of the song thinking he was the one hurting from losing a good friend in battle and thought it was showing distance between him and his girl as a result. Took me longer than it probably should have to realize she was the one hurting.
@ReactionsThatRock it was James job to collect all the dog tags of his fallen comrades and return them home. This is very much art imitating life, the soldier was a female and in a gay relationship he returned her dog tags to her wife.
James got alot of hate for this song especially from Americans as the fallen soldier his friend was female and was married to a woman.beautiful song .1973 upbeat tune of his 😊
I seem to recall that they've flipped the gender of the comrade he carried 'home' in the video - it was a US female soldier who died. It's over 20 years since I heard the story behind the song, and may be misremembering
I’ve not heard the story but given his time in the military, either way is possible. Of course, the entertainment industry will always make the woman sad and the man dead. 🥹
Have to say when I first heard James from your beautiful I hated his voice and that song also. Then I heard goodbye my lover and its an ok song and I didn't mind his voice as much... Skip many years later (to last year) when I heard Monster and... Wow my perspective changed and Ive gone on to listen to many of his songs (No bravey was the song to hook me into his music) now I love his voice... Very soothing as you said 😁
I’m right there with you! I’m actually enjoying his songs as well as some other singers with unusual voices. Been listening to a LOT of Noah Kahan lately. This must be my mid life crisis. 🤣
May I suggest you react to "Dark Thoughts" by James Blunt. There is only an acoustical version and I think I've seen a live version. I won't tell you any more other than it is intense.
Nailed it! Not sure if it’s my upbringing or my general disposition but I basically live in the sarcasm. I try to hide it during my daily life (for this very reason) but here on RUclips seems like a solid outlet for sarcasm and snark as long as I’m not mean with it… which does sometimes take effort. I appreciate it!
