Aw, Violeta! That makes me smile and makes my heart so happy to hear that learning to knit has been so good for you! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and happy crocheting! God bless! 😘😊💖
That so funny when your husband said what you making a skirt, when I was a little girl my grandma taught me to knit and she gave me a big bag of yarn scraps I knitted a really long scarf it had so many holes in it and not straight I was so proud of myself ,,,
I am making this lovely blanket in chunky my 8 Yr old grandson asked me to make him a blanket in blue and green I am from the uk I like all your tutorials.
Practice is the best way to become a better knitter. Don’t give up 😃🙌🏻 Keep making mistakes, it’s the best way to learn. Start over and keep trying! You can do it! 🥰🙌🏻🧶
That totally makes sense! I am new at this and I am just realizing how wonderful circular needles really are! The blanket gets pretty heavy as you knit with those long needles as compared to circular ones. It's really fun learning all the different ways to knit! How long have you been knitting?
I have crocheted for a lot of years also and I have been knitting the wash cloths my family loves them I have been enjoying knitting very much and have been very unhappy with crocheting. I love the way knitting looks and feels so I will attempt your pattern, thinking I'll use 35 size.
Thank you Elaine. I just learned to knit 1 year ago and I’ve been crocheting for 55 years and I think I actually am enjoying knitting more. It’s so refreshing 🥰💖
You are a natural, l just knitted a scarf wanted do matching hat, but knots joins wool, not happy when wool was expensive and gift for a friend. Dont think l can get the brand wool you use in UK. c
I think that was meant for Row 1. Row 2 would be start with P4 and end with Pearl 4. Also, when you add Stitches in groups of 4, it should be an uneven group
Thank you! I’ve practiced a lot on other projects, mostly on scarves. I’m working on another blanket and a beanie! Practicing really helped me out. I’ve also torn out lots of projects. Making mistakes has definitely been helpful on what not to do. Haha! Thanks for commenting! Happy New Year! 😍
I live in Australia, and found a Bernat blanket 300g but it’s a 14ply. Can I use that with 10mm needles and would be ok to make this blanket? I’m a beginner.
Hi love this video your blanket turned out great 😄.. unfortunately I didn’t watch it until after I bought supplies nd started knitting. My yarn is the exact same size but I bought the recommended size 11 needles .. until I got to about the forth row I notice It wasn’t expanding much and it was very tight .. what do you recommend i should do to make it looser and the holes bigger... also i saw u did 52 loops to make your blanket. let’s say I want to make a standard throw (50″ X 60″) how many loops would u say would be good ?? Sorry for so many questions I’m also new at this nd I thought I did enough research but I guess not .. thank you ahead of time for your help ♥️
Hi Lesley, thank you so much for watching and commenting. I would probably double the cast on stitches to 104 and knit until you have your desired length. Mine measures 36” wide, so doubled would be 72” and of course you can make it as long as you want. If you're using size 11 needles, yours will be much smaller than mine, so doubling the cast on stitches will make it bigger, but I'm not sure how much because of your smaller needles. You'll also need to buy 2 skeins instead of one, just in case you can't make it with one skein. Hope that helps 😘🥰 It's great practice either way. Happy crocheting! Let me know how it turns out!
Sparkly One okay thank you so much ♥️ so I also want to ask if I were to change my needle size to 17 also should I still do 104 cast on stitches? Sorry again for all the questions 😅
No worries at all! That's what I'm here for! Haha! If you want your blanket bigger than mine and you use the Size 17 needles, you can cast on in multiples of 4. So maybe somewhere in between 52 and 104 would be a good comprise, just make sure to have 2 skiens so you don't run out. Maybe try 88 stitches? I think that would be a good size. I'm not sure in inches what it would be though. Hope that's not confusing...keep me posted! 😍
@@lesleygmz Just want to check in with you and see if you figured out how to make this blanket. After 1 year of knitting, I now realize that this pattern in a multiple of 12 when casting on. Hopefully you figured that out a long time ago! Haha!
Hi Katrina! I am so sorry, I don't have length measurement. I knitted until I ran out of yarn of one skein. I gave the blanket away, so I can't measure it. Thanks for commenting. Have a wonderful day!
Yay! I'm so glad you're joining me on my knitting journey! It's been about a year for me now and I am loving it! Hope you are too! What are you working on now? Is there any project you'd like to see me make? I do have a few new ones coming up! Thanks for commenting!
Do u have to use chuncky yarn and size 17 needles is can u use lighter weight yarn and smaller needles? If u use a different weight yarn and smaller needles would u cast on more stitches and if so how many would u cast on for a baby blanket?
Hi Wanda! That was my grandma's name! 😍 You will need to use larger size needles for a chunky yarn, but you can look on the package of yarn to see what the suggested needle size is. That is super helpful when wanting to use a different size yarn. The pattern I show you here is done with a multiple of 4 so you can make it any size you want. You'll need a circular needle if you can't find a straight needle that's long enough. Baby blankets can range in sizes, but one that is about 36 in x 36 or 48 in x 48 in is a great size. Let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks for commenting! 😀🙌
I’ve attempted this three times after watching video and reading all comments and I’m still confused… sorry. Row 1: k4, p4…. End on k4 Row 2: p4, k4… end on p4? But this is not knitting the knits and purling the purl or am I totally lost?! Help please! Should row 1 be continued throughout? Wouldn’t this be knitting the k, and purling the p?
Beautiful, my arms would ache if l used huge needles, thinking buying interchangeable needles, live in the UK Dont think we can get the wool that you are using here x
Hi Elaine! It is a little bit heavy and awkward, but not too bad. The yarn is very lightweight, but if I chose a bulkier yarn it would’ve have not worked out so nice. Thanks for commenting 🥰🙌🏻
This is a good beginner project. You can use smaller needles and smaller yarn, which will make a tiny blanket for a baby. But it’s a good first time project. Just takes practice 🧶😀
There is away to help with the yarn not getting stuck on the other needless point on needless soap & the yarn will slip on the needless better. It is knitting tip of beginning
Hi! I have only size 8 needles but my wool is also only not that thick, I don't want to buy thick needles like yours because I wont make another blanket but does the needle size really matter? Can I still make the blanket?
Hi Maple! Yes, you can use any size needle you desire. Have fun experimenting! The smaller the needle the thinner the yarn should be. I use a Size 8 needle for quite a few projects. I like using a 4 weight yarn with them. Happy knitting 🧶😁🙌🏻
I have searched and searched Amazon and I can not find suitable needles I ordered some that are way too big and they are 16 length and not long enough got the nice yarn and can't find long enough needles that are appropriate size. Frustrated, Gloria
Oh no! I'm so sorry. I didn't realize that this size needle is so hard to find. My mother in law gave them to me many years ago. She bought them at an estate sale. You can use any size that's appropriate for the size yarn you are using. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
Here's a video I made that is for beginners. You can watch at the 4 minute mark and maybe it will help you. Don't give up, it takes lots of practice. ruclips.net/video/rHb-3ZvhIjM/видео.html
Oh I think I get it now! The second row will actually start with purl because the needles are flipped ( even though it was knit we last stitched on) - I think Lol
I AM A BEGINNER . YOU DID NOT SHOW HOW TO CAST ON , TO CAST ON I USE THE THUMB METHOD TO CAST ON BECAUSE IT IS EASY BUT AFTER I DO THAT WHERE DO I GO FROM THERE?
Thank you Courtni! My Mother in law gave them to me a long time ago. I think she got them from an estate sale. It would be better to use circular ones though. You can buy those on Amazon for under $20. I’m thinking I might need a pair of those, too! Haha! You can make a wider blanket with those. Happy crocheting 🧶🥰😍
Hi Joan, I am pretty sure they are 15", but I'm sure the 14" will work, too. It might get a little snug, but I'm sure you can fit them on there as long as you don't use a yarn that is thicker than a 6. Happy crocheting!
Hey Ronda! I'm trying to teach myself how to knit now t0 and omg is it hard for me to understand lol I want to learn so bad so I'm not going to give up but it may take me a while lol you're doing a great job as always keep the videos coming!!!

This is a small blanket and I was able to make it with those long needles. But, if you want to make a medium sized blanket you’ll need to use circular needles. These are the ones that I really like and they aren’t too expensive amzn.to/3AllzWC
Nobody will answer my question. If I can only cast on the width of the blanket how can I make a blanket if the piece can only be the width of the length of the needles?
You will need to use the longest straight needles you can find, like the ones I used in the video or you can use a circular needle, which you can buy in longer lengths or use interchangeable needles which can be made even longer. Just remember, the longer the needles the heavier the blanket. Hope that answers your question?
I think that should be ok??? I'm thinking the stitches will be a little snug, but you could also reduce the stitches by 8 if they don't fit...although your blanket wouldn't be as wide. Sometime you just have to experiment and see how it's going. I can't tell you how many times I've started projects over. It's just part of the game. Haha! Happy knitting!
Example: 52 stitches divided by 4 = 13. I used 64 stitches divided by 4 = 16 and it did not follow your pattern Row 1 - K4, p4, and end with a Row 2 - knit 4 and p4, knit 4, and end with a p4; I think I figured it out!
It is a really small blanket. You’ll need more skeins if you want a larger blanket. I’m using this as a leg blanket. It makes a perfect stroller baby blanket, too. Hope that helps 😘🥰💖
Well...that's a great question! My blanket is 36 inches wide with the cast on stitches in multiples of 4. You can make it as long as you want. Of course you'll need lots of skeins of yarn, so I would measure the size of the blanket you want to make with a current blanket on the bed. I recommend making a sample swatch and measure how many inches it is and multiply that to figure out how many multiples of 4 you'll need. You can also make it in multiples of 6 (6 knit, 6 purls), 8 (8 knit, 8 purls) or 10 (10 knit, 10 purls) to give it a different look. The pattern is super easy! I hope that helps. I'm new at knitting, but I think this is a pretty simple pattern and just have fun! I'm sure it will be beautiful! I'd love to see a photo when you finish it...you can send it to sparklyone60@gmail.com Happy crocheting! Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm always happy to help! 💖😊
@@SparklyOne I'm new too! In fact this would be my first project. I think my biggest issue is how I can cast on 200 stitches when the needle does not have enough space? Once I understand how to do that I think I would be able to knit the rest.
Ugh! I didn't think of that! Haha! I'm so use to crocheting and you never have to worry about that! You can use circular needles, which I love using, but you have to buy the ones with the longest piece in the middle (the wire/plastic piece) as you can buy, of course which I know nothing about! Haha! I guess I'll be looking up long circular needles on RUclips and knitting websites! We are in this together...let me know what you find out! Happy future knitting! xoxo
Yes, you can, but you’ll need long needles and it won’t be as loose and flowing. You can also use a smaller yarn if you are using smaller needles. The pattern is totally adjustable depending on the size you want and the look you want. Make sure if you are using smaller needles and smaller yarn you will be using more stitches to fill up your needles and don’t forget when you cast on it’s in multiples of 4. Hope that helps. You can email me at sparklyone60@gmail.com if you need any help. I’m always here if you need me 🧶🥰
Hi Tanya! Just want to check in with you and see if you figured out how to make this blanket. After 1 year of knitting, I now realize that this pattern in a multiple of 12 when casting on. Hopefully you figured that out a long time ago! Haha!
I want to make a medium sized blanket, how many skeins of wool should I get? I’m so confused! The blanket would be like a wrap you can wear while watching a movie, etc. Not too big & not baby sized. Please help
I would like to make this pattern in a lap blanket, I have found yarn that is 100% polyester, 3.5 0z, 86 yd would this work also if it would roughly how many skeins would I need.
Hi Beverly. It depends on the size of the yarn. Is it a bulky weight yarn or worsted weight? The yarn I used was a size 6 bulky weight & had 220 yards in it and I used the entire skein. Hope that helps. Happy knitting 🧶🥰
My blanket does not look like yours. I casted on 64 stitches and did k4, p4 and second row p4, k4 and repeated this pattern but I am not ending with a k4 at end of each row. I know you knit the knits and pearl the pearls. What am I doing wrong?
@@valeriem.neatrour6155 I think you should try to add an extra 4 stitches to your work when casting on. When I made that video I was a very new knitter (and still am), it might work out if you do that. I'm still trying to become a better teacher and I want to make it as easy as possible to learn how to knit and sometimes it doesn't work out that way. I'm sorry if I caused you any frustration...ugh! That's a great question! The bigger the needles the bulkier the yarn. Use the recommended size needles on the package of yarn. Also, the smaller the yarn and needles, the more yarn you'll need. Hope that helps!
Hi Bonnie! I was a new knitter when I made that video. It was so fun to make that blanket 🥰 It’s 2 1/2 years later and I cannot believe how much I’ve learned since then. I love knitting so much! Do you knit and crochet?
You will knit 4 stitches and then purl 4 stitches, and repeat that all the way across to the end. When you turn your work, then you will purl 4 stitches and then knit 4 stitches and repeat all the way across to the end. After that you will always purl the purls and knit the knits. Hope that makes sense 😊🙌🏻 Let me know how it goes

Here’s a video that I made, which is a medium sized blanket and I used circular needles. ruclips.net/video/9v92yaLoXtQ/видео.htmlsi=QhLymJnyiqB8gPTA
@@SparklyOne okay. Thank you.
@@SparklyOne I will order long circulars. Thanks again.
when you finish one row and start one the next new row, do you start with knit first again and then purl or do you alternate when its the second row
You will always knit the knits and purl the purls 😜🙌🏻
Hello! Please how long are your size 17 needles?
The knitting needles are approximately 15 inches long 🥰
Sparkly One would it make much of a difference if i got size 15, 14 inches long needles?
I think that should be ok??? I'm thinking the stitches will be a little snug, but you could also reduce the stitches by 8 if they don't fit...although your blanket wouldn't be as wide. Sometime you just have to experiment and see how it's going. I can't tell you how many times I've started projects over. It's just part of the game. Haha! Happy knitting!
Nice 👍🏽 how many stitches?
Hi Lida, the directions for the pattern are in the description box 😀🙌
@@SparklyOne thanks 🙏💐
Example: 52 stitches divided by 4 = 13. I used 64 stitches divided by 4 = 16 and it did not follow your pattern Row 1 - K4, p4, and end with a Row 2 - knit 4 and p4, knit 4, and end with a p4; I think I figured it out!
Correction- *and end with a knit 4 and row 2 p4, knit 4, and end with a p4;
Valerie, how big did your blanket end up being with 64 stitches ?
Cast on 64 makes a bigger blanket. Cast on less makes a smaller blanket. Make a practice swatch for your yarn and needle size. Hope this helps.
Hi Rhonda I’m just about to make the knitted blanket is this correct co 52 stitch it really small for large blanket ? Thank you for your time 🌺🌸🌼🌻
It is a really small blanket. You’ll need more skeins if you want a larger blanket. I’m using this as a leg blanket. It makes a perfect stroller baby blanket, too. Hope that helps 😘🥰💖
Gotcha thank you
What if I want to make a blanket for a full size bed?
Happy future knitting! xoxo
Did you start with a knit in one row and then with a purl in the next?
Yes, and you just repeat row 1 & 2 throughout. Happy knitting 🧶😀
@@SparklyOne Thank you for your help 😊
Is that one skein for that blanket
Yes, it's only 1, but it's extremely large
I am a beginner at knitting and can you use 10mm needles
Please help
I really depends on the yarn you are using. Which yarn are you planning on using? Are you a beginner knitter? Thanks for commenting! Happy New Year 😃🎉
@@SparklyOne synthetic chunky yarn. Yes, I’m a beginner! Happy new year to you too! ❤️
@@SparklyOne yes it is a bulky weight yarn, size 6
how much yarn did you use?
Hi Amy! I used the entire skein of yarn, with a little left over. Happy knitting!
Where did you buy your knitting needles?
Hi Maria, they were given to me by my mother in law, she got them at an estate sale 10 years ago 😊
Would this be a good size for a baby blanket?
It would be perfect for a baby 💝
Is the pattern k4, p4 and the 2nd row p4, k4, 3rd row k4, p4, etc. I have watched the video a couple of times! Thank you.
Yes, correct. You knit the knits and purl the purls. Hope that helps! Thank you for commenting!
It's not easy to figure things out, but I am always here to help, if I can. Let me know if that helps you. Have a wonderful day! Thanks for commenting! I really appreciate it, plus it will help others who read the comments 😊
Thank you.
In adding another 4 stitches to end on a knit 4 on row 1, then I should start row two with a K4 and not P4. Is that correct?
Does it matter what type Yarn
That's a great question! The bigger the needles the bulkier the yarn. Use the recommended size needles on the package of yarn. Also, the smaller the yarn and needles, the more yarn you'll need. Hope that helps!
direction on video states k4, p4 but the direction below is k4, purl to the end. this does not match.
I fixed it 💖 Thank you
Oops correction not 35 size 15 is what I meant
lovely are u sure you are a beginner? haha
Hi Bonnie! I was a new knitter when I made that video. It was so fun to make that blanket 🥰 It’s 2 1/2 years later and I cannot believe how much I’ve learned since then. I love knitting so much! Do you knit and crochet?
how do you start off like when you have it on the needle
Please explain what you mean? I’m not sure I understand 🤔🥰
@@SparklyOne like when you start of start off
@@SparklyOne sorry i dont really know how to explain
You will knit 4 stitches and then purl 4 stitches, and repeat that all the way across to the end. When you turn your work, then you will purl 4 stitches and then knit 4 stitches and repeat all the way across to the end. After that you will always purl the purls and knit the knits. Hope that makes sense 😊🙌🏻 Let me know how it goes
I’m really confused
I hope you've been able to re watch and follow along without any issues? What seems to be the problem? Maybe I can help😀🙌
Oops another correction looking at the 15 inch I decided I better use the 19
Since I was just beginning my knitting journey when I made this video, I didn’t realize that those size of needles are hard to come by. My mother in law gave them to me 20 years ago from an estate sale. They are so huge!
E ye
Oops! Number of group of 4 stitches.
All of that for $3! Yea that’s an Amazing deal
