  • Checkerboard Knitted Lap Blanket Tutorial
    Hi Everyone!
I am so excited and thrilled how this blanket turned out. I’ve only been knitting for less than 2 years and I am still learning, but I absolutely love it! I created this blanket and the pattern is listed below. You can use either straight needles or circular needles.
It’s made in strips and yes, I know how much everyone hates to seam things together, but it’s really not as bad as you would think. The outcome is so beautiful, so it’s worth the patience to make it.
The yarn is Premier Serenity Chunky Yarn and it’s sooooo beautiful and soft! I recently made a few beanies with it and it’s just a dream to knit with.
    My original pattern is below:
Size 9 circular needles (link on Amazon a.co/d/c5KgcRh)
Premier Serenity Size 5 Chunky Yarn in the colors Smoke and Cloud Dancer ( 3 skeins of each color)
Make 5 strips each of 2 different colors, alternating colors as in a patchwork quilt
    CO 25
Rows 1-6 knit all rows (tail should be on left bottom at end of 6th row
    Row 7 and all odd (backside) rows - k3, p19, k3
Row 8 and all even (frontside) rows including row 32, k across to end of row
(end with a front side knit row)
    Row 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, 31 (k3, p 19, k 3)
    Row 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 (k all)
Row 33 knit 6 rows and end on right side
Add white yarn and repeat pattern above, alternating with white and gray yarn.
Bind off on final row after 5 squares long. Weave in your ends.
When you have 5 strips of 5 squares long, sew strips together and weave in the ends.
Happy knitting and if you find any mistakes in the pattern, please let me know. I’m still a beginner and I apologize in advance.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I'm always here to help.
    Email me at sparklyone60@gmail.com
    Blessings,

It's a very pretty blanket. I love the pattern and how it looks sewn together. There are so many possible color combinations. Even if just working it up in a solid color, the pattern gives it lots of textural interest. Great job on your color choices and the yarn type. It looks so cozy and classy. Can't wait to work on this pattern soon.

This is a simple wash cloth pattern. I love your blanket! I knit a solid white one for my grandson, and after it was washed it was super soft! It got monotonous after a while because I just used stockinette stitch and a border. I like the small squares and I am sure they work up very quickly!

I'll be crocheting the apples to put in the squares ❤🍎 I love this pattern, it's so pretty (I have no idea how to read patterns for knitting or crochet, so I'm very grateful for your video) I'll be making each square individually so I can use my 4th color to stitch them together, which I'll figure out how to do as i go i guess lol thank you for sharing this ❤

Hi fellow arthritis sufferer, what are you doing working in the cold ?.
I am a very newbie knitter my lady ( better half ) is an accomplished knitter but very modest about her skills.
I am moving on from scarfs lol just completed a baby blanket garter stitch using super super chunky in chenille a great knit on uk 12s very pleased but not half as much as my lovely supportive partner.
I have a bag of chunky wool mixed colours and want to make her a leg blanket as alas she is also a fellow arthritis sufferer, warm dry days are good days you know the score.
I loved 😍 your video so so clear and concise and am going to give it a go, feel encouraged by the way you explained so clearly.
Love the way the knitting community help each other and share their talents like motorbikers we need to develop a form of head nod when passing by one another out of doors.
I have a heavy physical job as a wood machinist and love picking up the pointies and losing a couple of hours into the yarn what a contrast and antidote to a heavy day on the machines.
I have knitted different yarn gauges together also used contrasting yarns and ❤️ love trying out new yarns for effect.
Funny when I started as my partner said I knit so very tightly she could just barely get needles into my work in to sort out my mistakes, I coined my self the Angry Knitter - wool wrapped round pointies like a Boa Constrictor lol.
Thanks for such an informative and encouraging video, i will let you know how I go
    Many thanks Malc
Ps more than a bit scary 😨 about knitting in the round as I thought those joiny up needles were so you didn't lose a needle like when you misplace your spectacles lol.

I'm making for my 7th grandchild. I got yarn you recommended but what I found online comes in a different size skein; so far it's not seeming to be as "smooth" as what the video shows. I was curious if you did any blocking? I think I can get the same effect by doing that but it would be helpful to know if that's how you got it to be so soft and smooth.

    • @SparklyOne
      @SparklyOne  Год назад

Hi Nita, I did not block mine, but I do know that it will be even softer if you do and will keep the edges from curling. I do have a poncho video that I made with the exact same yarn and I did block that one and it was even more beautiful after I did that. Here's a link to the video where I show the blocking process at the end ruclips.net/video/_pCTlnCg_2s/видео.html
