      I just made this blanket as my first knitting project. The first one came out not so good. I ended up with 92 stitches in the middle 😁. The 2nd one came out great! Do you have a pattern for a 12x12 pillow cover for beginners?

      What length of cord you need?

      I usually wing it after I do a test piece. (It’s got a name but it forget it)! When I first started knitting, I didn’t bother... I learned that I was doing myself a DISERVICE!! I save patterns and then use different kinds of yarn. IF you’re gonna do this, YOU MUST make a text piece. Different sized yarn will give you a different length blanket, scarf, etc... If you’re making a poncho or (if you get there) a sweater, knowing how many stitches per inch will help you to knit to the correct width, length, etc... cuz it SUCKS if you make something that is TOO SMALL or TOO BIG!!
      So with all that said, knit yourself a test piece to see how many stitches per inch the yarn you’ve chosen will give you. Then you’ll know who many stitches to cast on!! Hope this helps...

    Too bad we can’t post pictures on RUclips I’ve knitted this gorgeous blanket with a much much smaller yarn in baby pink for my friend and it turned out GORGEOUS, embroided the baby’s name simply perfect. I gifted it to my friend and tears came to her eyes she was so moved.

  • @Vildmis

    Guys, she knits the first 5 stitches on every row, and then she either knits one row (middle part) or purls it depending on what stitch she did last. BUT! i think she modified how she knits and purls. on the middlepart, where she knits, she goes in from the top of the stitch instead of the bottom, i think she does this because she purls different instead of a "Normal" purl stitch - but im not entirely sure.

    • @Vildmis
      @Vildmis 5 лет назад +7

      Yes! She is using a mixed of normal knit stitch (border) and then Russian continetial style on the middle part (ruclips.net/video/gjRdy47-S38/видео.html) The reason why she does it like that is because it's the fastest way to purl BUT when you purl like that you end up turning/mirroring the stitches, so when she has to make a knit stitch she has to do it from the top, otherwise the tension will be insane and the outcome not that great :)

    • @Rameesa101
      @Rameesa101 2 года назад

      So when I get to the middle part or body of the blanket can I knit row 1 normally and purl the 2nd row normally too, or did u follow her style of knit and purl the way she did it? I’m so confused, mine is coming out nice so far but I don’t want to mess it up

      It’s happens to me also…when I change type of stitch..especially with a plastic stitch marker…when going from Pearl to knit, I tug the yarn up and hold it more snugly with my left hand, slide it up more snugly on my right needle. . Learning consistent yarn control has been a challenge for me. Sometimes after a piece is blocked, the stitches relax and the changes are hardly noticeable.

    I'm not a knitter, I am a crocheter, but it appears to me that you could just loop the yarn over the hook and then slip stitch those last row loops inside each other starting on the other end of the row toward the yarn tail and use the tail to lpull all the way thru the last loop and be done. Sew the tail into the work. Voila!
    It seems to me that's an awful lot of work if you're gonna be using a crochet hook anyway, why not just slip stitch? I understand that if you tried to slip stitch from the corner where you ended it would leave loose loops and it would look like you're missing a row ; that's why you would need to start at the other end, when done, clip your strand however long it needs to be and drag it thru and sew it in.
    Casting off in knitting appears to me that the stitch looks the same as slip stitch in crochet.

      Hi l just did a practice and thought l would share 🙂 l cast on 140 stitches using DK/8ply yarn 🧶 and a 4mm/80cm circular needles (You could also use long straight needles too). It doesn’t really matter how many stitches you cast on as long as you knit the first 8 rows in garter stitch then on your 9th row you slip your first stitch, purl to your last 5 stitches then knit those. Row 10 you will slip the first stitch knit all stitches to the end. Row 11 same as row 9.
      Tip: When your cast on thread is on the right side so you knit all the stitches. When it’s on the left you are on a wrong side and will be doing your purl row.
      Hope this helps lm all new to knitting 🧶

      @@lisamarsh2296 hi I'm using straight needles, and i casted the 64 stitches and Im starting the 80 rows. Im nervous because it looks really small.. is this becasue the yarn is scrunched up because its the straight needles vs circular? when its loose will it look much bigger? Im using 9 mm needles, should I have added more stiches if im using smaller needles?
      thanks!

      The pattern is you knit the first 5 stitches for the border then purl until you have 5 stitches, then knit the last 5 stitches.

      If this helps any even though it's so overdue, but I found it very helpful doubling the amount of rows so in total for the body she had 80 so add 80 more.

      Lacey jo I’m a beginner too... maybe you’re doing a yarn over? I was doing that. Make sure you move your working yarn to the back of your work when it’s a knit stitch and move your working yarn to the front for a purl stitch. I hope that helps!!!
