Most stores don’t train employees in any social skills or customer service. Returns and exchanges are a regular part of business. Sales associates sometimes treat a merchandise return like a personal rejection. It’s okay to check them and report it to management if they’re overly rude.
I just feel like when it’s over people are going to be like “I didn’t need to do this, it wasn’t even on sale let me go get my money back.” And I’m just going to laugh and say no.

At the end of the day, if she got her receipt, she's within the time limit and you cant tell it was worn, it shouldn't matter.
Tui Ohana true, however there are a lot of people who don’t have the receipt, try and return things over 90 days (some even years), and people who wanna return things with obvious worn on them or tags cut off and they do this regularly and make a scene if you don’t return it. They’re the ones who cause the shame associated with returning.
@@PolynesianPrincessa I've worked retail before. Sometimes you don't SEE signs of wear (no food stains, etc.), but you SMELL it. Haya V : I shop mainly online. I avoid purchasing clothes that is “Final Sales/No return”. It’s usually a red flag that the clothing is poorly constructed or sized. The items are often very tempting markdowns but it’s a gamble not in your favor.
Sooo true. My 1st hubby would buy more than we could afford to look like a "big spender" and then make me return it so we could get food or essentials. I still a whole new life later struggle to return anything.
Yes I feel bad, like burdening the shop staff & it's sometimes too much effort. But I will go return stuff if I need to coz my money is so precious, my blood, sweat & tears!
The store I worked at in high school had daily goals for each person set by corporate. Returns were deducted from whatever amount we were each supposed to sell, so anyone really trying to meet their goal (the full-time people mostly) hated getting 'stuck' with returns. I still make returns shame-free though! 🤷🏻♀️
I never try on clothes, I prefer to try it on at home! If it doesn’t fit I have sisters my sizes or I take it to goodwill if I don’t have time to return it.
I usually know what I want before I purchase something. I almost never return because of that alone. But I can understand the return situation for online shoppers - like Tamera’s example. I get it.
I used to have it but I had to get over it when I bought a big ass tv and it was cracked when I opened it 😭 also, I used to be bigger and I NEVER wanted to return clothes that ended up being too small for me bc I gained more weight. Now, shirts will be too big for me so I’m happy to go exchange for a smaller size it makes me feel confident.
Thats an AMAZING business idea! If someone came to my house, picked up the stuff I don’t want and returned it for me, I would absolutely let them keep 25%. They could etransfer me the remaining 75%
Omggg this is so bad but my family when we were broke used to take costumes from party city trash cans and return them for cash. In our defense, they throw out those cheap ass 5$ made costumes if they have the tiniest unnoticeable tear, so we’d just get them and be like “there’s a hole” and they’d give us the cash.
social anxiety makes it challenging to return things for me. I worry about how I am going to ask for what I need and what the person will say when I ask for a return. I love emails for this purpose. The face to face interaction kills me.
I'm 5'11, top heavy, with a high butt and long legs. Nothing EVER fits me and I hate trying on clothes 🤬🤬🤬 it takes too damn long!!!! I envy ppl that can buy something and just know that it will fit. My pants size doesn't vary but there's always the question of whether or not they're long enough. So I buy a bunch of clothing, try it on when I get home and return it if I don't like it. There have been times when I unknowingly bought something that was final sale, usually Anthropologie, and I'm stuck with it. I usually donate it because I don't really have anybody that's my size
Omg, I'm the same way! I absolutely hate trying clothes on, if it doesn't fit then I'll either give it to someone else or it will be chilling in my wardrobe for yeaaars! 😂😩
I’m very good about returning things because that lets me buy more (stuff I’m not 100% sold on initially but it may grow on me). I’ve gotten good finds that way.
I hate trying on clothes too. It's such a hassle to take off your clothes and have to do it twice. Not to mention, someone else probably tried it on too 😷 shopping for clothes is just a weird experience lol
I return things PROUDLY!! Nothing to be ashamed of. If you don't like it, return it. Or exchange it. If it wasn't expensive, I'll give away. But if it's expensive, I'm in line with receipt ready
A sounds crazy but tbh thats me too! But another reason for me as to why I don’t return is bc I’m waiting for it to fit me 😂 and then I give up and give it away. With tags and everything. Sometimes weather or not the 30 are over 🤷🏽♀️
For a girl who came from humble beginnings, doesn’t seem like Adrienne values money too much. If you want your money back, you won’t let laziness/forgetfulness stop you. But I’m Amanda 100%! When I return something, I check my account to make sure the refund went through 😁.
I'm like Jeannie!! I must return for that money back! Even if it's a few dollars... any amount counts lol. I would then check the bank online to make sure it was properly returned. If I missed the return window or if the return is a hassle then I would donate.
It depends if I really need it, and if I have shoppers remorse. But I don't feel ashamed to return something that I bought. If it does not work out, it's just does not work out. But I don't like it's when it's holiday season like Thanksgiving and Christmas time, and you see that long line at the customers services desk. Or even after the holidays are over it's worst!
As someone who works in retail, we don’t like returns cause a lot of the time it brings down our total we’ve made for the day and we expected by higher ups to make “budget” however we never hate on the customer it’s more worker to worker “nooo we had a $200 return we’re going to have to work a bit harder to catch up” and then we move on with our liv es cause they deserve their damn refund 👏🏻
Y'all need to restructure and progress your strategy perhaps. Instead of using "sales" tactics to sell items people don't really need (hence why they return them), don't leave it up to your staff to make a target. It puts unnecessary pressure on these workers and makes them feel like it is a reflection of them. Be smart about what you're selling and the community you sell it in, as well as pricing and even the atmosphere of your store and friendliness (not salesy-ness) of staff.
Cynthia Clemons haha I completely agree however you have to realise I’m the staff who works part time and it’s my boss and her boss that put the pressure on me not the other way round and to put things in perspective, I work for a multi million dollar franchise (therefore I have absolutely no say) that is also a fast fashion brand, they are money hungry and could care less about consumerism, prettt sad but at the end of the day I need a job too
I feel Adrienne. Returning is a hassle imo but like I got this electric toothbrush from sams club, and it literally just didn’t work. Wouldn’t turn on after “charging” so in that case even tho I so don’t want to cuz I’m lazy, I have to or else I would just be wasting money. Always try on clothes so I don’t have to go back when it doesn’t fit !
I feel ashamed sometimes BUT I am the return queen 🤣 I'm not keeping it if I'm not using it. I don't try on clothes either and I will return it the next day.
I work in retail, returns are the most frustrating thing. I won’t return unless it’s faulty, I always try on clothes, because I know the person in the store doesn’t want to deal with my returns.
Yae I’m definitely one of these people . I don’t know why, I just feel uncomfortable in social situations so returning, I don’t know , I just feel uncomfortable doing that
The only thing I’ll never return is a mildly incorrect food order , for example a caramel frappe instead of a mocha frappe because I hate confrontation so bad lmao. I let my siblings return it for me or my mom.

cyn7 that’s 💯💯
I’m with Amanda. I be checking to see when I get my refund on my card.
I'm Adrienne 😂☺🤭 I get you girl. I've got return laziness. You are not alone!
I worked part time retail for the first time ever this past holiday season... had ppl return things for .79 CENTS. I was like HUH. 😑
daaaaaannnnng!
social anxiety makes it challenging to return things for me. I worry about how I am going to ask for what I need and what the person will say when I ask for a return. I love emails for this purpose. The face to face interaction kills me.
Adrienne I feel ya I hate trying on clothes 🤪🤪 and get mad when they don't fit
I rarely return stuff and the one time I did bc it was incomplete, I was mommy shamed and class shamed by a kid's store. Literally made me cry.
No shame , give me my money.... I hate trying on clothes if I have on boots and if I just got my hair did...😂😂
I'm 5'11, top heavy, with a high butt and long legs.
I'm Adrienne in this scenario I will either forget to return or don't do it out of sheer laziness until I need the money
I'm with Jeannie. Bein broke aint no joke. I gotta try it on BEFORE I buy it...NO TIME to waist money
I'm like Adrienne, I barely return living on pay check to pay check. lol
I'm like Jeannie!! I must return for that money back! Even if it's a few dollars... any amount counts lol. I would then check the bank online to make sure it was properly returned. If I missed the return window or if the return is a hassle then I would donate.
New job idea! Thanks Jeannie
Want to return a TV or some clothes but don’t want to stand in line. I got you, I just want a 40% split of the return price 😂
Cynthia Clemons haha I completely agree however you have to realise I’m the staff who works part time and it’s my boss and her boss that put the pressure on me not the other way round and to put things in perspective, I work for a multi million dollar franchise (therefore I have absolutely no say) that is also a fast fashion brand, they are money hungry and could care less about consumerism, prettt sad but at the end of the day I need a job too
I would love to shop in Adrienne's closet!!!
If I am not happy with a product or service that I purchased, I DESERVE my hard-earned money back.
I work in retail, returns are the most frustrating thing. I won’t return unless it’s faulty, I always try on clothes, because I know the person in the store doesn’t want to deal with my returns.
Yae I’m definitely one of these people . I don’t know why, I just feel uncomfortable in social situations so returning, I don’t know , I just feel uncomfortable doing that
I'm the same as Adrienne. If something doesn't fit me, I have my sisters to give it to
The only thing I’ll never return is a mildly incorrect food order , for example a caramel frappe instead of a mocha frappe because I hate confrontation so bad lmao. I let my siblings return it for me or my mom.
