Nice work buddy! Everytime that VRO pulses, you will hear an audible clicking noise. Usually once every 10-20 seconds at idle. Hearing the pump clicking excessively tells you that there is an air leak into the system, or that fuel diaphragm is shot. I get so discouraged when I hear people wasting money trying to "convert" these VRO systems to regular fuel pumps. The beauty of the VRO system is you don't have to use the oiling pump if you want to premix, simply disconnect the oil line and warning harness, then premix at 50:1. That pump is relatively simple and easy to rebuild.
So you're saying its better to keep the vro fuel pump and just plug the oil line? My brother's boat is premix with the vro pop still in place but it's super smoky oil is everywhere on the carburetors. Literally about to pull them to make sure gaskets and floats and all that are good but hopefully it's not some other random common thing I could have easily fixed it I found it lol.
@@twofortyrida Yes, must less expensive and simpler to just keep the VRO and use it as a fuel pump only. Simply unplug the oil line, plug the oil inlet, and disconnect the 3/4wire connector coming out of the VRO. You must disconnect the two oil tank level sensor warning leads also, then you can remove the messy oil tank. So, did your brother remove the oil line from the engine? If he did, and it still smokes, then there is some issue other than the VRO. The VRO surely can not pump oil if it doesn't have any oil to pump....
I run a 115 03 Johnson with 400 hours and it was smoking badly, hard to start and burning a lot of fuel. I suspected the VRO oil injection was out of sync so I disabled it. I now mix oil and fuel at 50 to 1 by hand and the improvement is significant. Starts up quickly and no longer smokes as bad. My fuel economy is even better. If you continue to have issues, I recommend this fix as an alternative .
Please do another video on this motor on how to tune the carbs, I got the same problem, tried the small pump but will not start without the choke. Will now do the rebuild, thanks for your video.
Hello izak ok I ordered some parts for my carburetors so whenever they come I’ll make a video for that. Thanks for your support.. I hope this video helped you out to get your engine running good again.
My Evinrude 225 1999 2-stroke, injected is having difficulty starting, could it be this VRO pump?Spark plugs, vapor separator, new electric fuel pump, scanner, no error codes have already been changed. To start the WD40 game, it pays for the throttle body It starts easily and works properly, the only problem is starting up, the only thing I didn't change was the Vro pump! And the same system in the injected one?
Hi.. The electrical energy going to my 30 hp etec engine to the petrol pump never stops. The ecu and the pump are solid. Even when the ignition is half-opened, electricity goes to the pump without stopping and the engine is protecting itself. What should I do? Where should I check it? will you do it..thanks..i am writing to you from turkey
Would a problem with the pump cause the engine to lose prime? I've replaced everything from the tank, anti siphon valve, fuel line, and primer bulb. Primer bulb gets hard and shortly after it will lose prime. I don't see any noticeable leaks in the lines or anything visible in the engine compartment.
Nice Job!! we have a problem with a 93 Johnson 60hp, good compression, good spark, carbs rebuilt. but it doest star without spray starting fluid, stay running when put on gear only low rpm run and if we try to go faster dies immediately like too much gas on it, is there any way to test pump to make sure is the pump? thanks
Has this rebuild kit been reliable? Have you had any issues? I have the same problem and wondering if I need to buy OEM? My local dealer can no longer source the OEM air side diaphragm. My issues is the oil/fuel diaphragm has a tear.
Hello! I’ve got the same motor and it’s will start but as soon as I try to accelerate it cuts immediately. The carbs were recently serviced so I’m thinking it may be fuel pump related. We also know we have a venting problem because we can’t fill the tank but a tiny bit at a time. Could the two problems be related? It’s a boat new to us and we haven’t been able to fill up quickly since we got it but it’s ran fine.
Thanks for posting the video. How long did the rebuilt fuel pump last? I have seen alot review where either it lasted 15mins or a few trips on the water, before the aftermarket diaphragm ripped under pressure.
Hello J thanks for watching. So far the pump is working fine. I know is not original part but I checked the reviews before buying it and they are good.. I use my boat every week to go fishing and no problems yet. TG

As I have the light "No Oil" I disassembled the VRO (the first part where the oil arrives) and the small plastic part on top is broken, moreover I wanted to see how it worked, I pumped the gasoline and there that squirted and another piece a very small steel rod with a blue gasket came out of its housing and can no longer enter it. It's a disaster in less than 2 minutes.

wish I would have saw this before buying a new fule pump
if my vro pump dies, I'm going to bypass it and mix the fuel myself. 600 bucks if motor is gone? not a chance... great video and thanks for sharing!
This is what I just did. New (regular) fuel pump was $35
The best money can buy 👌

Where did you buy your kit?
Amazon
I have the same issue in my Johnson 250, I would like to know if you have a workshop where I can take it to fix it , thanks
Hello im in Boca Raton Fl .. what year is your engine?

How did it run with the standard fuel pump with the bracket on it? Did it work well at low speeds or no?
Very bad idle.
Great video! That's exactly what has been wrong with mine. Where can I find the parts? Do you have a link?
