Oh my god Denise🤣
While I find this show humorous at times, it often feels too modern. It's like, yeah, they LOOK 1980's but the dialogue and the personalities are 2019.

This is a commune family ... you do know these groups had these discussions trying to fight to keep their communities away from that
People been having this discussion forever the difference now is social media put it out there. TV didn’t allow this kind of conversations to be out there
What I missed you! Her sister is too much 😂
My cousin would do the same thing to me lol
Stereotypes dehumanizes, de-sensitises and divides.
But Asian are stereotyped as being smart, Japanese polite, Americans fat, stereotypes are just generationalizations based off experience with a race or people group. Black people can change their stereotypes if they collectively decide. The Chinese used to be badly stereotyped they kind of still are but now they are rich, seen as smart, hard-working.
Flim & Comedy Sterotypes are based off someone’s experience with a few members of that race. The problem with stereotypes is that it doesn’t acknowledge that everyone’s different and despite their skin color each member from that race/group will act different. For example, the stereotype Asians are smart is hurtful because in the college admissions process a lot of Asians are discriminated against because people expect the to be way smarter than the average person. So, Asians have to perform higher to live up to that stereotype and if they accomplish any less they would get deferred. That’s just one example of why stereotypes are bad there are many more. Also, stereotypes shouldn’t exist period their very limiting we are human beings and are all different despite race.
@@lunaoxen7312 I never said they were good or should dictate our behavior in a cases yet they really are generalizations. Although generalization do give insight a person has to choose whether or not to see the bigger picture. There's more that goes into stereotypes. The reasoning behind them. White people don't season their chicken, black people can dance. Honestly stereotypes shouldn't be used where its unnecessary like college admissions. Isn't that discrimination in Harvard due to Asian students overperforming and they have a "diversity" policy. Africa being poor is a stereotype yet there's more to the picture. Sereotypes are like stats you cannot base everything off it.
People like to point out how stereotypes are bad yet they are generalizations. If it wasn't being seen or noticed most of then wouldn't exist. There's more that goes into them. Yet most people are not very concerned to think deeper into them.
Flim & Comedy good stereotypes still negatively affect people. Asian people who aren’t smart don’t get help they need, and they feel ostracized from their peers and the work they actually do is undervalued bc they’re just “supposed to be like that”.
Plus people have never collectively done anything, have you seen the internet?
What pisses me off about this scene is the fact that stereotypes against fathers are harmful and hurtful. The idea that a man can't take care of a child and do basic hosuework stuff makes it excusable for those who don't do it to continue as they are. On the other hadn, fathers who do put in the time and do even if only half of the work needed to run a houshold (while the wife does the other half, in a "conventional" household, for lack of better word) end up feeling like he's not good enough because everyone is always sure that he's doing it all wrong. And that's toxic and discouraging. Even worse - it slows down the time it will take us a society to reach household equality - the state in which the chores and work done by both partners in a marriage is equal.

I know right . Why belittling it,!
That’s why it’s a stereotype…duh…some people suck the humor out of everything
Yeah. I don't think that the degree of harm it causes should make it not worth mentioning. It's harmful and part of the discussion so it's still important and shouldn't be ignored
My only complaint is Paul's constant belittling his own experience. 3 times he goes "But not as bad as what your mom deals with".
It's not a contest, you don't have to say your wife has it worse to validate her.
I think that's the joke....
@@DavidLee-vp3nr well, the most important thing a white man can do is help other voices be heard, but that doesn't mean he isn't facing discrimination that is just as valid and damaging to his sense of self as his wife's.
@@brandondavidson4085 🙄😏🤐
Men have their own share of stereotypes like the dead beat dad or men are supposed to bring home the bacon and if they don't than they somehow fail as a man.
@@DavidLee-vp3nr it's a bit sad when you have to explain the jokes.
He should have included his feelings on father stereotypes. The stereotypes on dads are they dont care as much as mothers do and cant provide the same needs a mother does. Which is un true and negative stereotyping like that leads to fathers having little rights in parenting and even custody battles in divorces. Many fathers have been protesting this for years.
Yea the stereotypes of male nurses are dehumanizing too
Also that they are the disciplinarian of the family (wait till your father gets home). Which undermines the mother and adds to the uncaring stereotype of the father.
i agree that it is needed however, it was completely unnecessary in the conversation as the issues he was going through arent a thing he goes through throughout his life unlike his wife who in this case was facing constant discrimination. Thus, her issues were worse of here.
Another stereotype is that it’s “not manly to run a house.”
I love how Bo just straight up said "Allows Dr. Rainbow to explain" with such badass voice

“I’ll just put in my journal” 😂
Stereotypes exist because of our human capacity and need to categorize and sort everything in our environment. Think about it.
Edit: To clarify, I'm saying our brains do it instinctively but as our understanding of the world has increased it has become the equivalent to the appendix.
Stereotypes are generalizations we make based on a few people from a certain group and apply those characteristics equally to everyone. They aren't necessarily accurate and reflect people's unwillingness to do research or understand that every individual isn't supposed to be a representative of their group.
@@Cindy99765 yes but stereotypes are important

Why did they have to actively minimize the stereotypes against fathers? That was not necessary to get the point across that black woman deal with stereo types.
ALL stereotypes are poison. Walking in a situation assuming you know anything about anyone for any reason, is dangerous...and it promotes intellectual and cultural laziness. Wether it’s a father, or a black woman, it’s all poison.
Not all stereotypes are poison
Maybe because it was about the black womans experience this time. Can they have a moment without you feeling attacked lol

What?? What is happening? In blackish we see in the first season rainbows parents are people who still live in a commune
She went to law school? What? How did they gloss over that?
Before they went to the commune
They could’ve went back after things settled with the law or it’s a new commune they join when the kids were adults.
And the whole law school thing might not have come up, especially if that’s not the focal point of your life anymore. She only just started using her degree because the government broke up their original commune.
They haven’t glossed over it though, they’ve said in the earlier episodes that Alicia and Paul met in college. Paul dropped out (I forgot why) but Alicia stayed and got her law degree.
However idk what happened with the commune, they could’ve gone back after the kids left home or even went back later on after retirement.

The man/husband added essentially nothing to the discussion
Personally i have a somewhat love/hate relationship with this show like when it comes to curtain aspects i can relate to them but i feel like this show is sometimes a lil to dramatic with things ... like for me growing up as i always felt excluded from curtain things in the black community or i always felt like i had to prove myself aka my blackness constantly to be even included , because i was lighter skinned or because i didn't look or act like the other black kids but that wasn't because i was mixed it was because some kids are fucking assholes. Ive known about my fathers multi-generational french creole ancestry since i was a kid it never changed how i felt about myself im a black man biracial or not i was raised by my black parent/mom i grew up around my black side of the family i know black culture like the back of my hand ...I am Black . Basically what im saying is ik this show is about being mixed but i hate how every single aspect of the show is supposed to only affect them because of their mixed heritage as if non mixed black kids don't go through the same shit it just seems like their making mixed heritage an unrealistic struggle when really we are all experiencing a version of the black struggle only difference is we have a few more flavors mixed in ....... We All BLACK
The creator of the show black ish made an ignorant episode of what lightskinned people go through but go figure he haddd to be married to a lightskinned woman. One day the fat idior will see that his wife isnt going to be dismissed anymore from his opinion and leave.
Jewish people who are good with money isn’t a stereotype. It’s actually a good thing. Something all community should emulate.
It was supposed to be run the banks/Hollywood or some other antisemitic stereotype. The good with money stereotype lead to the stereotype I mentioned
Someone saying Asians are good at math isn't a negative stereotype but it's still a stereotype they can be good, bad, and inbetween

Been a while since we had some good ol' network TV race bait.
One of the thing I don't like about this show is how much they belittle Paul's struggles. I get it, Paula and the kids have a lot going on for being black and mixed but just take this scene as an example. There really was a stereotype about fathers not being there for their kids because that was a "woman's job" but of course it doesn't matter how the white guy feels
Yeah, I agree. I don't like how his issues are pushed to the side. At the same time, I think he knows that it comes from a higher place of privilege than Alicia's. Still I really like Paul and I love that he is heavily involved in the rearing of their kids.
I guess it's representative of those times. This conversation is only just starting to happen in present day so on some level it makes sense how it's dismissed in this show. But yeah I agree Dr Rainbow could come in and explain how it's actually important too.
in the 1980s Paul character striving to be so involved in his children's daily lives was rare. I think Paul's role is be celebrated more. He is intentionally nurturing his children.
@Pazz Pazziano Paula is black and her kids are mixed. (And btw those mixed kids are perceived as black by society)
@@PfEMP I never understood why people do that with mixed people. They try to brand them with one dominant race when they are literal mixed. If I have a mixed baby and they ask if they're black I'll tell them they're black and whatever race/s they are mixed with. I personally don't like when some people do that to mixed people
I like it, is this a new show?
Yes it's on the first season .
Yep we need to get rid of all stereotypes.

Not all stereotypes are bad
Kenya Barris, Tracey Ellis Ross, in the MLK day episode I noticed that y'alls last name was Jackson...And one of the funniest episodes of Black-ish is when Andre was mad at Bow because she didn't change her last name when they got married. Because they had the SAME LAST NAME. Dont know if you caught that.
I think Alicia just took on some Andre Johnson tricks at 1:46
Mark Paul's mother is Indonesian I'm disappointed they didn't incorporate it with his character being mixed ish .

The only thing about this show was is it seems to say that Caucasian people are rich, and well educated. Stereotypes on any race is bad, and yes, there are times when fathers are discriminated against. And this show should not be belittling them. She says this while putting people working for the firm in a box, essentially stereotyping that anyone working there sees her only as a black woman. Was that intentional, I don't watch this series?
That's not stereotyping. She's literally saying how she feels at work because of how she's treated.
You affirmed your own comment. You don’t watch the series.
You don’t watch the series but you’re speaking on specifics of it without knowing if her complaints are actually valid?
@@laurencameron3150 Specifics that only relate to the clip and not the series as a whole though. Unless we literally see her being stereotyped by every single member of the firm in the previous scene, she was indeed stereotyping. That of course doesn't mean that she wasn't wronged, but that doesn't excuse stereotyping.
@@brandondavidson4085 How she feels is not an excuse for stereotyping, that's how stereotypes appear. While there obviously were people, maybe even a majority, ho were stereotyping her, that doesn't equal everyone doing so, which was her claim.

@@princesschanel469 And plus, Ellis Tracey Ross (Bow) is the daughter of a black woman and a white man in real life.
Law school in the 60s? You aren’t that old
This does it to me the speech is not poignant because okay yeah she's dark skin of course that's just a stereotype that they always put on but the fact that rainbows mother is actually a light-skinned on blackish if you would have had a person like Essence Atkins or Rachel true say this it would have been different why because on blackish she's light enough to be passable and yet they still see her as a black woman
Why are Americans so afraid to class Indians as Asians? India is in Asia and Indians are Asians. Yes, they're South Asian, but they're still Asian.
So they dismissed Fathers and White men that fast huh. Yup, this is definitely getting blocked. One clip has showed me enough.
Why woyld they put Asians and indians group different? Indians are also Asian. And the fact that the more fair skin Asian with smaller eyes are called "Asian" while the darker Asians are called by their country made this scene feel so dissapointing
Generally, if they are Far East Asian, then you have to ask which country. Each one of the "Asian" students could come from various Far East Asian countries. It's a play on many folks assuming that all Asians are Chinese. Indian people are a specific Asian country with their own specific identity.
India it's own subcontinent or south Asia. West Asia-Middle East. There are many people that we may consider or perceive white or black that live in Asia whether Russian or Armenian or the melanisians in Papua New Guniea , Indonesia, Philippines .
I thought Gosselar’s most embarassing role was playing Zack Morris on that goofy ass Saved By The Bell. I stand corrected.
Sheesh, this is supposed to be a comedy?
Yup...it’s a shame😒
What I don’t like about this show first off is that the mother is blacker than the original. At least get an actress that resembles the mother’s from black-ish. Don’t get me wrong, I love Tika, but shit like that throws me off
The woman who does nothing harder then show and tell people shes a strong BLACK woman is surprised when people know her as the black woman.
She’s angry that people stereotype her as the ANGRY BLACK women and only sees her as such. Im sure she’s proud to be seen as an independent strong black women, but who in the world likes being stereotyped?
@@hbomax6542 but she is an angry black woman. Doesn't take much to get her to pick up arms. She barely needs a reason to look for a fight.
Michael Thor
Maybe the reason why she’s so angry is bc people at the time, treat people who look like her like shit. Ever thought of that? Even if a person did fit into some stereotypes associated with their race, that shouldn’t be your first impression of someone. For example, I’m asian, and I’m frugal, but if people assumed I was simply bc I’m asian I would be super offended, bc that person probably thinks of that with every other asian person they met when in reality not every asian does that. Also a simple stereotype doesn’t define someone’s entire personality nor who they are as a person. She shouldn’t be just seen as “The angry black women” bc she’s more than that. People are more than stereotypes.
@@hbomax6542 True, except she is what she's not trying to be, if you don't want to be a stereotype then don't act like one. She's a successful woman who complains how people see her when that's what she focuses on and lets people know. I would have forgotten her name at some point. As far as I can see people treat her well and she looks for problems. Even if people like her are treated like shit she's not.
Michael Thor
She has every right to complain though, it’s hard to ignore it when the people who are judging you are those who should consider you as their equal, those who you look up to, those who you should be able to turn to. At that day and age, she has every right to be angry. And even if she wasn’t, people would still associate her with that stereotype all because she’s black. Stereotypes exist, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not her fault that she’s stereotyped. If people see her as an angry women bc that’s just how she is, then that’s fine, because that’s a part of her but it becomes wrong when that’s the only thing you see in her or if u only think that bc she’s black
