- Paul (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) and Alicia (Tika Sumpter) are worried they haven't taught their family to be proud of their Black heritage, but their efforts to rectify the problem fall apart -- no thanks to 'The Color Purple.' From 'Sweet Child O' Mine,' the season 2 premiere of 'mixed-ish.' Watch mixed-ish TUESDAY 9:30|8:30c on ABC, streaming, on demand, and Hulu.
“Oop, she’s right, she walk black”
This is why i love this show😂😂😂
Me too
“The Color Purple?” That is soooo not a kids movie.
Word!! 👍
It sounds like they wanted to go for Roots but it had already been rented 😬
Issa BLACK movie. No mo talking!!! "periodt"
@@hippyfriend Roots is worse, those kids are gonna cry when Kunta foot gets cut off.
@@hippyfriend wait cuz I’ve watched roots when I was a kid
That little girl is the star of the show she’s hilarious
Its the auntie faces for me🤣🤣
The color purple movie isn't child friendly my aunt said it was the saddest movie she watched in 1985 shouldn't be shown to young children neither is roots
Add Precious to the list. That movie f**ked me up, uplifting story my a**.
I watched it when I was 7 and I loved it.
I am mixed Latina and white. My mother made me watch the entire roots series as a child. It never made sense that I wasn't allowed to say crap or any derivative of a swear word but could watch something like that so young. But, it made me who I was and helped me understand black people at a younger age than my peers. While being a child and seeing it may be extreme, I do not see a problem with it if the are a teen.
I'm black.
I would never show my future kids THE COLOR PURPLE ----WHEN THEY ARE KIDS!
It seems a little too much for a child. When they are older, sure.
I didn't watch it until I was 13. I'm not saying every kid will have the same reaction as me; but I know I would be a little freaked watching it as a kid..
Your week watched it from 5, I knew then that the world hated me for being black so I stayed to myself
@@Iamblack34 just bc you were watched it at 5 doesnt make that person week. You can chose to either let the stereotype define you or define yourself
The way y'all using week got me weak 🤣🤣🤣💯🤷🏾♂️
What's it about?
My mom didn't lol. It's sooo sad.
I don't watch this show regularly. But why does Rainbow seem like the most dull character? Do the writers EVER give the girl funny stuff to do?
I mean, she's the dullest character on Black-Ish. Not surprising the kid version is equally boring.
I actually like this rainbow better than the older one.
shes the straight man, a neccesary character in comedy, her role is to be dull and normal around the crazy characters so its funnier
Just like yara shahidi in grownish
@@ricojose187 right? they can't all be crazy ., there would be an imbalance
"The color purple" traumatised me for years, I watched it as a kid, ( and I'm not even black). The wizard of Oz with Michael Jackson and Diana would have been more apropriate for the kids
The Wiz (‘78) is called black version of the Wizard of the Oz.
Oof - I would never show The Color Purple to kids as young as Santa Monica or Johan
These are my parents. 😅 My dad especially. It was the eighties and movies with black people were in short supply.
The color purple was so traumatizing to me as a six year old. 😅😅😅😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
My takeaway was that having sex with a man was the equivalent of letting him go to the toilet on you. 😅
@Jessica Smith weak willed, they need to see how the world hates black people.
Why not are you white?
@@Iamblack34 trolls 😒😒
I love how she perfectly pronounced 'Ladysmith Black Mambazo' 🇿🇦❤️
I have never seen the color purple and I'm okay with that
What is about
Not missing much. Watch the news. That'll fill you in.
Found another racist trump voter y'all!! He admitted he hasn't seen a so call black movie with OPRAH AND WHOPPIE!!!
It's the eye roll from the little one for me😂😂❤
I was 17 when I first saw color purple that nearly broke me. I can't imagine watching it as a kid.
This is so hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I first saw the color purple when I was 12. I thought it was great because I didn’t understand how dark it was. Even at that age I didn’t know how pregnancy worked, I didn’t even know it was possible for blood relatives to have children (until I read Oedipus the king). Also, I knew Celie was abused but didn’t know how much and in what ways. Nor did I understand the spirituality that was much more prevalent in the book. In my opinion, kids would only enjoy the film if they didn’t understand it, but anyone would enjoy the film if they were mature enough to understand the book. So read instead of watching tv
Skipping “Dukes old Hazard “ is a drastic move.
No one wants to know what the soundtrack of their conception was.
Unfortunately it happens and then you realize you need to write thank you letter to the band for bringing you into the world! 😂
I don't think Rainbow is boring or dull. She has her quirky/weird moments that are funny. Especially black-ish Rainbow 😂😂😂 we complain about the usual black woman stereotypes but then complain when given variety smh. There are black women who do identify with Rainbow!
Many many women identify with Rainbow. She’s funny. I love her character, especially in Blackish.
@@noni5961 ikr, I'm African but I live in Europe and I so identify with Bow. Not all of us are out there turning the world upside down like Lupita, Michelle Obama, Rihanna, Beyonce, Megan the stallion etc 😔
@@elledumble she’s awesome. She has to deal with Dre😂😂😂😂 and his mother😂😂😂that’s a lot of credit to her already.
@@noni5961 😂😂😂 I never thought about them but now that you mentioned it I remember how stressful they can be 😂😂 Ruby and Dre are hilarious but they are quite a handful 😂😂
Wait...showing “The Color Purple” to kids?! Such bad parenting!
When mans said roots- I’ve never slapped my mouth harder-
Santa Monica! Yes!
This show is great because it reflects America and other countries as well.
This shit funny asl😂😂😭😭😭😭
The aunt cracks me up so much!
I just noticed the dad is ZACH FREAKIN MORRIS
No..............
@@redrose1806 She didn’t know, Ok...? Jeez. 😔
@@pamjam098 so I'm sorry if I offended you or anybody else, I actually is correct I was sort of exclaiming on that she is indeed right and it was a shock to me as well to see that the Zack Morris has grown up. Although I don't understand why you are upset with me when and responded the way that you did when I just gave I one word response.
same, i didnt even notice they recasted for a while 😂😂
Yep. Can you believe Screech is dead? I 🥀🥀🥀
She walk Black!

It's the 80s, what I remember, our parents weren't as concerned with censorship back then. Our "kid movies" like Goonies have kids swearing in them and people with guns, and some of our movies had dark undertones like "Neverending Story" but we all watched those movies on loop as kids...I'm not saying "The Color Purple" is appropriate or not, but things were a lot more laxed back then. I'm a SpEd teacher and there are so many movies I want to put on for "Fun Friday" for my kids from my childhood but realize I can't because of language and other stuff that our parents didn't even care about in in '88
I had no idea that the lady Smith black Mambazo were so well known.
I've only heard of them in Mean Girls
No black or biracial family in the 80s acted like this...
Lady Smith Black Mambazo ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. Love from South Africa.
A sounding board is for making sound reciprocal sound.. text comments.. sounding board.. this seems to be good natured video.. and very realistic for obvious reasons.. depending on the site sometimes we throw a ball against the sounding board and it bounces right back in our faces sometimes uncomfortably.... at worst a site like this might be considered for time reasons a bit myopic in its scope of analysis
As a mixed kid I would be mildly annoyed when people assumed I was Mexican. Especially when they would come up to me and just start speaking Spanish.
is that zack morris lol
Yes
Huh, I forgot that this show was on.
Ah yes...Ebony magazine....my mom's pride and joy lol
I . Recently watched color purple my mom always says my hair looks like Cicely never understood until now but why the bell would she make them watched color purple
I can say this also being black is a continuous stye in the eye.... Grasshopper.. we are free when we give freedom to all expecting their flaws slips of the tongue discomfort.... without prejudice.. without racial prejudice.. it's a two-way street well it's a 10-lane highway..
Everyone in this comment section needs to chill. Like your parents never done anything stupid that messed up. They are human, they are allowed to be flawed ;)
Y0000! The grandad needs his own show.
woooooaah! They made love to Ladysmith Black Mambazo!!!! That's craaazy lol
i hate how mixed-ish is so on the nose about the issues it wants to tackle. They discuss issues all the time in a very obvious, non-harmonius way, and then it feels like they want a pat on the back for being 'brave' and being able to tackle that issue.
I mean, sitcoms back in the 90's also tried to tackle black identity issues...but at least they were funny. mixed ish and its spin offs just seem like they want to educate me and also expect me to think they are clever. I mean, seriously? This show is not even funny. I very rarely laugh. It's a shame, though - I think the cast is pretty spot-on, and the idea is nice, but the execution is so bad.
I mean, why wouldn't it tackle issues? I don't see what your problem is.
i agree i hate this show
Sheldon gave roots dvd to wrong person
I love Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Just let them read the book instead. It's better than the movie.
I love dukes of hazard
0:30 desperately needs to be a GIF.
To be fair, Bow and Johan do look hispanic-passing (if that's a thing).
The color purple? That is the worst movie ever to show a child, I was an adult when I seen that movie for the first time... Talking about trauma!!! 😹
They look traumatized
This can't be real, they actually made a show called "mixed-ish"
I wanted to hear it🤣🤣🤣
I was interested in what "The Color Purple" was so I googled it and then I started reading it. Steven Spielberg (okay), 1985 (ooh), set in the 1900's (oh, so it's going to be really racist), impregnated by her f@____ (oh no, not this).
Oop she right, she walk black ahahhahahahaa
Wow he was doing an accent 😳 I feel as mexican person weird hearing that
What is black? I can say this being black... Black is a nebulous definition.. of racial identification. It's cultural it's many different things.. sometimes people are not so much African... And is that what we're talking about?
Lol. Let's hear it and decide.
The careful allowance of homogeneous freedom something May transcend any concern of race.... no one being able to actually discern what indigenous race they may be from.. without waiting for 10 years of ancestral chasing diagnosis... That would have a certain degree of error... Well let's run that through the analysis again.. another 10-year wait
Why would you start with the color purple?!
Maybe something that will never happen.... A doctor congratulating a baby... Moments after being born.. saying to him you ought to be proud of this ...being born and being black... The white kid over there not so much...
White people are already socialized to enjoy whiteness both consciously and subconsciously as the world already caters to and praises the erocentric image/views. just stop, please
I just feel like this couple has zero chemistry and I could not see them together in real life.. both good actors, not the best pick for these roles
That’s weird and awkward and trying too hard
Indeed, all agenda driven. How would you explain its renewal after a poor season 1?? All agenda!
tiktok killed live hotel December
I'm sorry, we need to talk about how Dukes of Hazzard was "their show" and how fucked up that is.
Nothing wrong with that. People of all colors watched that in the 80s before everyone got woke.
@@oaktree1626
I watched too when I was a kid, every week. But I don't say it's "my show" so that excuses how problematic it was. I did a lot of shit as a kid that I've grown past.
@@elbruces Not problematic
@@oaktree1626
The show about the Rebel Flag car called the General Lee on network television was "not problematic?"
Naw, this is a problem, and we need to talk about that.
I don't get it, there father is white! So why are they focusing primarily on their black heritage.
The color purple? To kids?! Umm...not a good idea. Neither is roots. Way too young
hmmmmm wat ever in the world could it have been that this show got cancelled ... woke grabage
They are way too young for color purple
I'm surprised this is making ratings. It's always about racism from what I see on these clips. Even the mom subtly insults her husband at every bend trying to push the "black agenda." I like Mark Paul too y'all but hopefully he can find a better role in Hollywood. How about the show just be about a family-cause this is borderline trash.
Do they even talk about their white side? Its a bit off
NOT COOL NOT FUNNY

I didn’t like how they downplayed the severity of the word just because it wasn’t about black people. A slur is a slur, and I don’t think they handled this one too well.
What people find offensive now, was overlooked in the 80's. You have to understand context while watching a period show. They have said a lot of offensive things because that is what was going on in the 80's. You don't have to like it, but it is what it is!
@@kissit012 I don't think it was handle best but the entire episode was about how it wrong to pass as someone else culture and he a kid he prolly didnt even truly understand the meaning he jst got tired ppl buggin him

Living in the pandemic it's very stressful you know watching black lives matter I feel sorry for the people who lost there lives..you know the year 2020 hasn't been good for anybody..
@@BeautifulBlackPeople but I think the show could have done it a different way not to offend people..
I wish we would stop characterizing each other by race instead we should use skin tone i.e a chocolate man with curly hair from uganda or an olive skinned lady from Mexico etc. Not black, white or asian.
Where's the black pride at? This show is making a mockery of black pride while promoting interracial marriages. That's disgusting.
@Mae Baird well I suggest that you tell the families of the black men and women who were murdered by their Caucasian and non black spouses to that it's ok to date interracial. Black men for black women only. This is a mockery of black pride period. I can't stop them from promoting this, but I can express my disgust and the disrespect of my people. You're entitled to feel how you feel and so am I.
@bigpink pencil So by your logic it is alright to make fun of black pride, which is slapping black people in the face and also saying that you can't find love among your own people. That's basically what you saying. Black women need to be with black men teaching black children about black pride. No non black person can teach black pride when they never been black. It's like me teaching White pride when I'm not white. It doesn't make any sense. You entitled to how you feel just like me and lets leave it at that. Nice dialogue, have wonderful day.
