    I'm always fascinated by the accents, cadence, etc of former FLDS members. It's really an interesting look into how closed communities develop their own speech patterns and pronunciations.

    I have never been sickened so much in my whole life for this young woman and what she went through. What her aunt said to her just made my heart stop. I'm so thankful that they are finally together and healing. May God give you peace and comfort and show you that he is a loving God.

    I never thought much about it until now, but maybe one of the best ways for us “gentiles” to be able to get close to an FLDS person would possible be to offer them some type of work. Then, just being there for them to see your a nice person & hopefully they will eventually confide in you. Slow and steady… on their terms.

    My goodness, I am still crying my eyes out from listening to this. God bless that young woman and thank God they never broke her spirit. Right in this moment, I find it hard to have any forgiveness for the people who were involved in this abuse. This one is definitely a hard one to listen to due to the amount of abuse that was hurled at these children. I’ll have a break before I listen to part 2, but already I’m encouraged and inspired by this young woman’s spirit, courage, bravery and determination 💓💗💞

I’m old, so it’s been a long time ago, but I recall my grandmother calling the LDS a cult. I wish I could talk to her now and find out why she believed that so many years ago. The hanger these children still feel is heartbreaking, at the same time it shows how strong they are as people and as a family. They had good parents that gave them good foundations and self worth. But is it hard to watch .
    My personal feelings watching this family talk about their experiences is that those abusive women had a lot of jealousy and resentment towards them, they were a happy , balanced family , something that they themselves did not have.

    I was placed into Catholicism as a child. At age 7 I was sent, alone, to "study" at the rectory, which is where the priests lived. I have very few memories of those visits, except for the intense dread I felt as I knocked on the door. I was a British immigrant Anglican child sent to an American Irish Catholic school. It was confusing. We were taught that our sins as children were lying, talking back to parents, disobeying, coveting, arguing, missing church, not paying attention in school, not appreciating our food, not willingly working to help. The list was long. We were expected to go to confession over these sins. We were given a certain amount of "Lords prayers" and "hail mary prayers" to say at the altar of the church. The longer you took to say the prayers...obviously the greater sinner you were. A lot of us became speed prayers. I left Catholicism at age 15, when I was given the choice. At least I had a choice.

      Also had a Catholic upbringing and it sucked. I didn't get sent alone to the rectory, but I did have to go to weekly CCD which I hated. My dad insisted that I make all the sacraments and get confirmed. I was so upset on my confirmation day, because I was 14 and felt like I had no choice. As an adult, I understand it was just words and was meaningless. I have been out since I was 18 and raised my kids athiest. They are so smart and so hip to these cults. I feel like I did a really good job in this area.

    • @lindabarnes4128
      @lindabarnes4128 Год назад +2

      @@christinekeefe9004 my kids are grateful that i didnt shove organized religion down their throats too. They are kind hearted, fair minded, non judgemental adults now. Both are teachers. Some of the ideology in catholicism is helpful, so I just share that with them. I might add that their father was raised Muslim in Turkey and also gave up that religion.

    This just shows how much powerful people in religions are taken over, they need to impress their elders ( caretakers, overseers). The religion keeps saying it’s about god and family, but it’s really not.

      @EarthborneArt I do see your point👍🏼, and I'm not in any way trying to downplay abuse. I know there was a lot that went on, especially during those crazy times, that was not right at all. There were many good experiences, but also a great degree of harm and that is sad.💔 All I'm saying is that it's silly and not fair to basically say we were commanded not to clean ourselves properly. There were definitely some people who were way off the rails and extreme that their actions pushed children away from the faith instead of strengthening it, and that's a damned shame.😔 I really do feel for those who were mistreated (especially innocent children) and pray they find healing.🕊
