Hi there Dylan. My name is Julie. It's nice to meet you. I'm happy that you were able to stick to your tbr plan. I, however, am such a mood reader, that I find it very hard to do that. I get distracted by other books quite easily. Right now, I am only 2 and a half hours away from finishing listening to the Lost Metal by Brandon Sanderson, after months of listening to it and then getting distracted by other books. I have also started reading while listening to Tress of the Emerald Sea and the Silverblood Promise. @SpacedOutWizard Yeah thats fair. Memories of Ice shouldn't be too daunting. It's the first book in the series where a large chunk of the cast are returning characters. But there are also a ton of returning perspectives like Quick Ben, Ganoes Paran, Whiskeyjack, Kruppe, Tool, and Coll (along with a dozen recognizable side characters). One thing that has helped me throughout the series is that I read the start of every Malazan novel pretty slowly to try to remember who everyone is and who they are connected to. Most chapters throughout the series typically have 2-4 perspective characters and usually they will have 2-4 scenes in that chapter leading up to a climactic moment (it could be leading up to a reveal, setting a plan into motion, a big fight, a tragic scene, or a punchline to a joke). By the time I hit Book 2, I find my rhythm and it becomes a lot easier to read.
