It HAS to be a vapor, therefore ALL engines convert the fuel to a vapor before it's burned in the combustion chamber. Fucking about, and trying to "make an engine run on vapor" is COMPLETELY unnecessary because the engine already does so on it's own. Wise up, man.

Will it Run On Gunpowder? If you grind the powder fine enough that it can make a dust cloud and get sucked into the intake maybe it will run. Might be difficult and dangerous but it sure would be interesting if it worked :)

There was an engine designed to run on gun powder in the early days.
That is not all that different then using coal powder or flour powder or sugar powder but then you are back to the work that Rudolph Diesel was doing way back in the day. Personally I'd like to see a coal powder engine. I have even thought of ways to do the powder distribution. Pain in the butt though.
Experimental Fun - the power stations that supply power to ur home have understood how to spray a fine mist of powdered coal to sustain combustion for a very long time.

I was just thinking, if you had a tub of water with a top on it like a pressure cooker and used 2 wires that go into the water then hook up DC electricity that would cause the water to turn to H2O (vapor) and might get an engine to run. It would take a lot of vapor though, so capture the vapor for at least a gallon of water then pressurize the gas (vapor) into the engine. One problem could be, when the hydrogen and oxygen burn, it tends to turn back into water. Still sounds interesting.

Project Farm I wonder if a small engine will run on rubbing alcohol?
I wonder if small holes drilled into the ends of the vapor intake pipes would make the vapor system more efficient. Like a bubble diffuser in a fish tank. Making a lot of smaller bubbles instead of the current larger bubbles. May help atomize the gasoline better? Heck even a series of vapor engine experiments could be fun to watch.

Paradigm Mirror he could use a cpu cooler with a bunch of holes drilled in it, should help. I'd put the cooler on the bottom and a copper mesh over it.
Project Farm If you do more vapor carb stuff, i would like to see you put fuel in that's contaminated with something like rust, random gunk, or something that you normally wouldn't want to use, but might work fine in the vapor carb.

Which type of epoxy is most resistant to gas exposure? This is something I would love to know as I need to repair a small engine carburetor after the winter most likely.

I happen to know that the Locktite 2-part epoxy sold in grocery stores, hardware stores and autoparts around Kansas City is about as perfectly fuelproof as you can get short of solder or brazing. I have fixed a couple hundred old small engine, motorcycle, car truck and tractor carbs with the stuff with zero problems.
1) Get the parts perfectly dry. I have washed mixed-together-but-uncured 2-part epoxy off my hands with a gas rag. 2) Let it cure 48 hours at room temperature for best results. 3) On sidedraft carbs a part of the casting comes down and usually a bowl nut screws up into it to hold the bowl on. I've had that casting corrode clear off and saved the carb by applying 2-part in 1/8th" layers (letting it cure good before applying next layer) until I get a blob big enough to work with. I file and rotary file it into shape on the outsiide and then carefully drill and tap (cut internal threads) the mass of epoxy to accept the bowl nut. You can't get crazy torguing it tight but just nice and firm is all that's necessary and so far so good on a smooth running stationary engine (a welder). I wouldn't trust it in an airplane or motorcross bike but so far so good !
you want to use a novolac epoxy as your first option, and a bisphenol F epoxy as a second choice. unfortunately most kits sold at the hardware stores are nether. most sold are bisphenol A which has a weaker cross-linking then the above two. if the packaging doesn't tell you what it is then you may have to resort to MSDS. urethane, polyaspartic & polyurea will likely stand up a little bit better but will have much worse physical and bond strength.

Common thing in generators. In fact Google will give you plenty of plans to how to make a propane carburetor for small engines.

As a mechanic we used brake cleaner to drive cars into the shop that had failed fuel pumps.

Yip I use brake clean routinely to richen up a petrol engine(testing for fuel trims, air leaks etc) run an engine with no fuel pump, and occasionally start diesels(outing it direct into the intake so it can't pool in the intercooler) . Not to mention its amazing cleaning properties. Amazing stuff. It will flash on a hot catalyst tho so be warned when cleaning oil leaks on a running engine :)

Ive got a suggestion, when you compare carbon buildup running different fuels or showing the see through cylinder head, why not show what it looks like on regular gasoline? like for the carbon buildup show what the engine looks like running on gasoline for a similar amount of time so we can have something to compare it to. Also why arent you cleaning the valves and cylinder head so carbon buildup transferring from the piston and valves to the cylinder head doesnt happen?

Well if you are trying to determine if it cleans why not run it twice once uncleaned to see if it cleans then clean it and run it again to see if it makes it dirty?

Here's an idea! Shell and bp advertise there has burned cleaner and or even will clean your engine at there to tear fuel. We should compare to in your area is considered not so good fuel.

I like this idea. Try a long term test of different brands or grades of gasoline. Discount versus brand name and a separate test- regular vs. Premium. Run for hours or days.
I think it could be interesting to see the results clean, dirty will it clean? Temperature differences. shoot yea! I know it would be a lot but if you or a friend even had a thermal type camera to see the flashing burn temperature difference while using the see thrue head that would be cool to. But that's a lot of $$$.

Using oils as a fuel additive is useful at concentrations around 0.5%. I think bacon fat or lard may have some fats in it that don't dissolve in all solvents, for instance turpentine won't dissolve all of it. But for all we know that could be a good thing.
Bacon fat maybe in a diesel but not a gas engine as for rubbing alcohol that low of a proof will most likely not run well if at all you will need a lot higher compression as 91% maybe about the lowest you can go it no diff then other group of alcohol methanol or ethanol as for kerosene it should after all it used in jet engine, and petty sure non of cleaner will work straight out of the can, LoL right air freshener.
Can you show us at what rpm valves will float on a lawn mower? I’d guess 7000rpm!

Please use some sort of remote method to rev this up if it is done. One of these engines can be rather dangerous coming apart at high RPM.
I don't think you can get much more than 4000 rpm. Also the risk of blowing the engine gets real high.

What did you expect, 200+ customized responses per video? Most of the ideas are pretty same-y, so unless its really interesting or a lot of people want it chances are its not going to warrant a video. As a mechanic we used to do stuff, but there is one that i was always thinking about... nowdays in the Uk the carbon cleaning service became a really popular thing, we used to do it on a cheap way. Simply just spray some water into the intake (i mean spraying with a window cleaner bottle or a mist nozzle) could you please prove this one for me?? Obviously becareful not to hydrolock the engine.

There os actually evidence of this working. Take a look at a cylinder that has a bad head gasket leaking coolant into it and it is often cleaner then the others. It may take some time but works well. Water is also the cheapest cleaner you can get too

that is true. Also water injection was used in WW2 planes with superchargers. There the cleaning was a happy byproduct but still happened
While there is always room for improvement, your videos are damned hard to fault as tendered ! I learn things from watching them (when you know NOTHING it is not hard to learn something !) You have a unique technique for eliminating sources of error from your experiments that could only be bested by a professional lab with cutting edge instrumentation. MAF cleaner works as well if you're out of starter and everything else. Tested first hand on my generator, really revs up the V-twin.
As a CMAT here is a trick many may not have thought of... When a vehicle with a defective electric fuel pump is towed in and parked, disconnect the intake boot and with the help of a driver... use brake clean to start the engine and walk along with it to move the vehicle into the repair bay. Works ever-time and I've never had a problem ! Nice video...

Simply put, yes. People do this a lot with such mix. I have played with it too. It does make a mess of the engine in time. Cleanable but messy.
dirty ford101 diesel will run just fine , you have to start with diesel and stop with diesel or the fuel injector will jam when the cooking oil cools down and becomes think ......... , you will also need fuel tank heater to keep the oil warm and yes it will run with used cooking oil just make sure that it is not dirty (should not contain big enough particles to clog the fuel line or injectors)
People that run it all the time filter it to start with. Not bad in warmer climates but would be tough to keep hot enough in cold places. I've seen diesel heaters used in rigs running up North that use coolant to heat the fuel which was diesel and maybe it'd keep the cooking oil hot enough. Just don't know about that. I'd just run diesel and try and dodge the headaches.

I may be a little late, but "That throttle work" is also the quickest method to diagnose a way-too-common carburetor problem. Even though the manufacturer is REQUIRED by the EPA to certify their engines for gasoline containing up to 10% ethanol, they still use gasket, etc, material that degrades in ethanol. If someone puts pump/automotive gasoline containing the standard additive level of ethanol into their mower for normal use, sooner or later it will cause the mower to stop running. The most common problem I have seen is that the needle valve seat (part of the carburetor that opens up to let gas into the carburetor) will swell up and cause the carb bowl to only fill part way, and the mower just won't run any more. Unless you literally choke it with your hand. The normal intake vacuum isn't strong enough to pull up gas from a partly filled bowl, but when you choke it outside the normal mechanism, the increased vacuum causes fuel to flow, and the engine to run, until you take your hand away and stop choking it. The seal that swells up and causes the whole mower to quit costs less than $0.50 each.

Jon G Methane is used as fuel as we speak. You should research if your curious, we actually collect it from landfills and use it as fuel.

What about Nitromethane used in R/C cars and aircraft
There are a lot of "off grid" people who have Digesters which take human and animal waste and put enzymes in a vessel, with no oxygen. this produces methane, that's not quite pure. it produces about 800 BTU's per cubic foot, rather than natural gas, which is about 1,050 BTU's. They use it to run generators, as well as for heating purposes. It works pretty well, but the engines are about 30% down on power compared to gasoline. It burns so clean, there is no tell-tale odor.

Could you try running a tank of fuel through a regular engine, then the same amount of fuel through the fuel vapor engine and compare running time? I'd find it interesting to know how much longer one might run over the other. For fuel economy purposes, I mean. I've heard of people running cars on fuel vapors in competitions, but I wonder how much it boosts economy.

No. On a 4 stroke the valve timing vs the ignition spark timing will be incorrect and self defeating
Two strokes can run either direction but 4 strokes can't. Most 2 stroke snowmobiles made in the last 10 years you push a button to reverse the engine so you can back up.

I'd try cardboard rtv cork a few layers of thick foil and of course just jb weld the head to the block
Alien Mechanic I have used annealed copper for this cut on a home built CNC with success. I have not yet done this on larger engines though myself. Just an older cast steel Briggs. Google "fedtech gaskets" I believe if you can design it they can make it, if it's something worthy of the costs.

@KevinHendley Yes it will I had a Go-Kart and didn't want to leave it there to go get gas and i noticed a full can of Axe in the ditch (odd I know) and bypassed the air filter and cranked on it while spraying and drove the thing all the way back to the barn (where I had gasoline) I took off head cause I didn't feel much compression and the axe had eaten into the head gasket. But yes it will run on axe.

Hey! I think your videos are great the way they are! Very interesting very to the point and informative, I wouldn’t change anything! Also something that may be a little to dangerous but an idea nonetheless, could an engine run on acetylene?
A small amount at a time or lo flow.. You know how sooty it is by itself. Lighting a torch with the valve barely cracked with no oxygen and all the little black soot worms floating around. That stuff is extremely rich.

Oh I definitely know, what would make the engine stop first build up in the exhaust? Around the valve, or just clog the spark plug?
If you add acetylene to a small milk container and a short burst of oxy before running a lit torch over it , I reckon that would be very similar to what would happen in the combustion chamber.
Be good to see if it does clog up the spark plug and valves.

Some gasoline engines can be converted to use propane quite easily, Ford offers propane conversion kits for some of their large commercial vehicles.
Yep. Propane and compressed natural gas are common alternative fuels for vehicles.

Yeah, Project Farm mentioned that at the start of the video. Could also try running on freon while it is still available, but burning freon can be deadly because of phosgene gas (mustard gas) produced!
ojars zvaigzne Freon won’t burn as fuel I even vented some into the intake manifold of a diesel before it was illegal to vent and all it did was make a little phosgene in the exhaust and then engine shut off from lack of oxygen seconds after

Good Lord, don't use regular brake cleaner in a motor. It produces phosgene gas when it's combusted. Non-chlorinated won't, but don't ever suggest this....someone might make a deadly mistake. And no, it's not a myth.

Great Video! I have been watching for a while and was wondering if you have considered adding a heated 02 Sensor and Gauge to your lawnmower setup during tests? A 12 volt battery or 12 volt power supply could run the heater for the 02 sensor and the gauges are fairly inexpensive from orilleys, You could then run some tests under rich then lean situations. Just a thought. Wishing you the best

Zippo fluid is essentially naphtha, so yes it will run. This is also the solvent used to clean printing presses.
lighter fluid for burning lamp (the one they used 100 years ago) or propane/butane? As the later is widely used in cars (or it's specific version).
@@drgrunn174 Gas will work without problems, but the lamp fuel is more akin to diesel, so you'd probably have to mix it with gasoline.

DO NOT BURN THAT GAS 1,1 difluorothane is poisonous when burned, your lungs will hurt after inhaling that stuff, not worth it.
The vapor setup ran amazingly well! I take it you did another video on running gas on vapor?! I'll go look for it, I wonder how it compares efficiency wise, afr changes, better/worse mixture in the combustion chamber etc. Neat stuff man this channel has hours and hours of awesome information!! You can't trust manufactures, or most groups that review products, what a gift to have someone doing all sorts of tests and showing real results!!

@@ProjectFarm the set up this guy has isn't doing anything differently from the carburator. The he's highly agitating the fuel causing as much atomization as the carburator would do left in it's own. For it to be useful at all you have to dial in the agitation rate. It else it's just a cook looking perpetual motion machine you see where they hide the motor. My bubbler set up on my power washer nets noticeable gains. It operates a little lower rpm than it did off the carb but my water psi hasn't dropped. I also need to use a little fuel by way of through the carb or starting fluid to get the motor started. Since engines use more to start than they do to idle. My ratio will run it but won't start it. And that's where you see the difference in consumption. I had to mes with mine quite a bit to get it right. And my pressure washer was the most thirsty small engine tool I owned now is at least 25-30% better
Another great vid mate. Looks like it runs lean after checking the spark plug. But it still works.
Also probably won't be getting the upper cylinder lubricated like petrol provides.

I can remember using WD-40 as a substitute for ether to start cold diesel gensets. Was not as good as the real stuff but it got the engines going.

You must personally keep an entire shift at whatever facility makes Briggs and Stratton head gaskets employed with your testing!

Jet a1 is essentially kerosene with some additives
Its a "cleaner" diesel. They don't run diesel in jets because it smokes up the place like no other
