I wonder if this would cause a runaway engine? I noticed that there was a lot of residue left on the cylinder and head. If there’s enough blow by from the vegetable oil I’d imagine you might have an issue
Another vote for this - I was very excited to see a veg oil test on your channel - all the years of people telling me that veg oil is a poor lubricant compared to diesel in my fuel injection pump seem to be disproved. Maybe you could also test diesel alongside veg oil and regular 10w/30-40-50 oil etc? Well done and thanks again :)
But the issue is if the diesel decides to run away, the only way to stop it is to restrict air flow to the intake as diesels dont have butterfly valves like a gas engine does.
I did expect it to work at least fairly decently but it appeared to me to be a bit more capable then I thought it would be. Ive had this exact curiosity ever since the first time I poured 5w20 in to an engine and felt as if I was preparing to cook fried chicken because of how thin it was. Thanks for the video sir we appreciate it.
I agree, I think oftentimes we underestimate organic (in the traditional sense) food-grade oils, they obviously work fairly well in the tool world for many purposes. I mean, I wouldn't swap out a vehicles motor oil for vegetable oil, there are so many modifiers added even if it matched lubricity it'd turn to gunk rapidly, but as we begin our slow drift away from petroleum we'll still need "oil" for all sorts of moving parts. Heck, instead of trying to refine corn into a weak gas alternative they should put the research into better organically-derived oils for lubrication. I mean, castor and linseed oils are still preferred in several instances over synthetics, I'm sure with a little R&D they could probably replace a lot of lubricants with less toxic and renewable lubricants.
Project Farm Lol same but different. Standard blue washer fluid (2gallons) got me home after I burst a coolant hose in the car and repaired it. Notice I was careful to not say “blew a hose” 🤔😬😬
@MrHillfolk A guy was traveling with his family when his car broke down. It was towed to the nearest garage. The mechanic said it would be a while before he could look at it so the guy took off with his family for a little while. When they returned the father didn't realize he had ice cream all over his face. He asked the mechanic if he figured out what was wrong with his car. The mechanic stated, it looks like you blew a seal. The guy suddenly in a panic wipes his face and proclaims, no it's just ice cream.

I sold a new Toro to a Church that had a briggs engine and they put olive oil in it and yup it blew up good. I had the briggs rep look at it and he wouldnt replace the engine and the Paster swore up and down that they put oil in the unit. At the time I was doing work for Ammoco BP now . So I sent some of the oil to the refinery to have a test done with their mass spectrometer. Those guys lauged so hard when I told them the story they didn't charge me for the test because I was doing it for the church. Then the next time the briggs rep came by I gave him the the print out from the test he faxed it to Briggs and they bought the engine for the chuch because I had proved that they did put oil in the unit. It worked fine for one summer until they decided to change the oil.
Yeah, Olive would no fair very well, cause it has a low flash point compared to other edible oils and breaks down easier than they do. It's one of the healthiest oils to use, but not durable, lol. Good to know though, I was curious about that.
There are vegetable based oils that could do very well as compared to olive oil. In Terry Dyson's extensive testing and analysis of 226 motor oils, a vegetable based one made by a company called Renewable Lubricants did extremely well and ranked 3rd highest in the straight out of the bottle category (he tested some oil and extra additive combos as well). “Now, what we will be doing today differently than in the past, is after an hour of hard use, we will be removing the vegetable oil and making some yummy 🍟!” 😁
I have been already applying veg oil as 20% additive along with the regular engine oil for about a year to my vehicle (car and motobike), i feel this formulas has been increasing power and acceleration of my vehicles and also the engine sound more calm soft and the temperature is more having stability.. And another result that suprising me is when i opened the engine cover , the whole engine part and the metal is so clean and shiny..😃
Thank you for creating these videos by the way. My wife and I try to watch a video an evening. I really like what you do and I like that you are not sponsored by anyone making everything more fair. Keep making these, they are very enjoyable! Big fan of you and your videos.
"Zippo fluid" is Naptha/ White Gas.. almost the same as regular gas.. PF If you are going to try this, buy a can gallon of Coleman fuel vs little bottles of lighter fluid, it'll be MUCH cheaper :) I have an old Coleman stove that runs on both, per instructions, so they must be similar...
@@mikecollins8241 isn't Coleman's white gas only unleaded gas? Unleaded wasn't available at the pump some years ago so Coleman marketed it as white gas.
I did the same test back in the early 90s and found the same results. The stuff worked. The only thing we found is that after the engine sat for an extended period of time, the valves were gummed up and the small end of the rod barely moved on the wrist PIN. Solidification of the fats? I don't know.
many years ago, a race car driver at the Indy 500 used water as a substitute for oil during a pitstop as he was not allowed to add anything but water, and still won the race. I think it was in the '30s
stacy gardner . Makes sense to me. I do a lot of drilling on tower structural steel and discovered by desperation that plain water dribbled or sprayed continuously keeps my broaches and drill bits sharp longer and better than cutting oils and doesn’t make a slippery dangerous mess on the tower . Just keeping them cool is apparently all that is needed .
I read about this before. The race regulations had a limit of how much of each fluid you could add during the race. He had surpassed his quota on oil so threw in the water as it was available and not over limit.
You _can_ run a Diesel engine on Renewable Lubricants Inc. Oil (made with vegetable oil as its base oil so it's non toxic) and then run the Diesel on Biodiesel. Vegan Diesel!
@@101Volts The problem is that after awhile, especially if there is blow by happening (where a small amount of fuel gets in the oil), then the oil, no matter what it's base is, will become more toxic to the environment. In order for it to remain non, or much less, toxic, it would have to be a newer engine in very good shape, and you would need to change the oil more quickly.
Canola oil. Been using that to restore tools and lubricate parts. Best stuff I ever used. Seems to handle cold temperatures better than other oils I have tried so far.
R2Bl3nd water based or silicone? I feel that water based wouldn't work at all since it is well....water. The silicone is very light but should be a little better.
Outstanding video. Anybody who cooks knows that cold vegetable does not flow very well. :-) On behalf of myself and everyone else who enjoy your videos thank you for all of the countless hours that you spend preparing for the demonstrations, running the demonstrations, and for cleaning up after the demonstrations. Additionally, thank you for undoubtedly spending a lot of your own money to bring us a lot of enjoyment watching your videos.
Regardless of my misinformation, which I'm honestly surprised given all the times I've heard it, Ethylene Glycol does have lubricity properties. Like a thin oil. So it's no surprise why I and so many people have believed that. I think it would still be a good thing to test just for fun.
Most if not all waterpumps (not checked every waterpump) have a seal then a hole then the sealed bearings, the hole is so if the seal leaks coolant doesn't get to the bearing. The seal gets lubed with the coolant/antifreeze/anticorrosion, if the car sits for years often the shaft the seal sits on corrodes causing the seal to leak. Coolant will eventually get into the sealed bearing which destroys it pretty quick.
After viewing the video. Well, I'm extremely surprised! Your engine ran for 1 hour without noticeable damage. And I'm amazed at the lubricity test! To sum up, the test didn't work as I'd expected. In an emergency situation, vegetable oil could replace the engine oil of your car, but of course, just a few miles and keeping the RPM moderate...
Great assessment. The vegetable oil will leave a messy residue inside of an engine. So, an oil change directly after using it would be wise. Thanks again.
Thank You Project Farm I’ve Been Waiting On this Test 😀😃😀 I’m Glad You Put it thru The Tests And On The Bearing It Seemed as It Performed Well And It Looked Like it Worked Equally As Well in the Engine Slight Amount Of Sludge On The Head n Piston Crown but Considering it was Ran For an Hour Nothing That Bad Thanks So Much Project Farm Keep Up The Awesome Videos Well Keep Watching 😀👍🏼😎👍🏼
I am amazed at the results of running vegetable oil in the crankcase, and that the engine lasted for an hour happy to see this test I suggested it ,thank you for your videos
I would really love to see you put that in a fairly modern car say 2000 and up like Toyota and run it around town for a while to see how long it would last. Please..
Have been running a 1998 V70 Volvo 5 cyl 20 valve 2.5 litre motor ok with Aldi vegetable oil, seems happier than normal. It has got 300000 KMs on it and has been smoking a bit when the oil gets low. As it is using about 2 litres oil per 100 litres petrol, I figure it might as well be treated like a 2 stroke lawnmower.
mount an alternator to lawnmower engine either replacing the blades with a gear of some kind or using them as a flywheel and compare power output, charge capacity, & efficiency of it vs a name brand generator . direct drive alternator lol
Great video with a practical engine test instead of some lab comparison! Thank you! Some suggestions, if you ever re-do it: 1. before-and-after comparisons could show pictures after running it with vegetable oil vs. picture after running it with mineral oil. The vegetable oil vs. clean-scrubbed piston crown does not yield much useful information and may make any oil look bad. 2. Rapeseed oil is the traditional steam engine lubricant so reasonably is the best oil to start with. It has the property of adhering to both wet and dry metals.
You did this video 3 years ago, this is the first I seen it, and what do I think? Great as always! I will get to see all you're videos after awhile, it might take me awhile but it is well worth it!!
Since Diesel and mineral white spirit feels oily... Can you test again the same way please! Maybe a cheap base plus a snake oil additive until the motor stops - (do bearing test after 1 hour)
I was looking for his, and knew you’d have it. I’d love to see a new version of this using different cooking oils. Avocado oil, in particular, always seems like it is among the slickest of cooking oils, and also has a high smoke point, and I think it might fair pretty well in this test, and might even beat motor oil.
I'm doing my usual and voting yes........for a while. Anything slick will work but some not for very long. Thanks Much in advance for another good one Commander. Happys to you and yours!

Hey project farm guy! I love your videos and I think they’re super useful, so thank you and keep making them! I was wondering if there is any video of how the lubricity tester works if there is no oil at all, I think that would be a great example on how much wear it can cause with no oil. Thank you!
Stage 1 upgrade kit for Predator compared to a bone stock Predator. I recently did a stage 1 upgrade to my mud motor. I can tell it breathes easier with the upgrades. I know the EPA chokes these poor engines down and leans them out so much it's surprising that they run. I'd love to see a torture test comparing a bone stock Predator to a simple stage 1 Predator Many of us building these mud motors are afraid to build too much, but the bone stock motor often run too lean. After sure long runs they won't crank. It'd be nice to have some kind of raw data like your torture test. Thanks!
Now try coconut oil. It's all the rage in the health food industry right now. Kidding of course. It's solid at room temperature, so I imagine it would be about useless.
in its liquid state its extremely thin too! You could warm it up in a container filled and kept separated by it being in another container with hot water so that its fully liquid. Then pour it in and give it a try. but I dont think it would be anywhere near as good as vegetable oil or canola oil. its superrrrr thin and runny as soon as it becomes liquid.
dirty roofer well I was walking through autozone the other day and saw a Lucas oil stabilizer display, that one with the gears that you crank and of course the gears with the Lucas have more oil coverage than the normal oil. At this moment i thought to myself hmm seems a lot like gear oil to me. I might throw some in my semi the next oil change and see if there is any noticeable difference, maybe it'll run a little smoother...who knows.
Drew L In the old days, used car lots would dump some 90w into the crankcase to stop engine knock or slow down leaking. It works, but i don't think it's very good on the internals during cold starts.
Kenric Sukalski I got a barrel in my basement for... activities and it’s not too bad at least for a lawnmower. Good ol fashion horse lube works just as well
Pretty cool that you made your own bearing tester, the first time I saw one was for a gun oil promotion. I'm also fairly sure that most mechanically inclined guys have thought about this stuff. I have always wondered if there is an additive that would enhance gasoline for more power &/or to go further? I also vaguely remember hearing something about a scientist who developed an engine that ran on hydrogen from water, but possibly subverted by the fuel industry. Any thoughts or comments? Thanks for the educational videos.
On their own, vegetable oils could potentially work as lubricants. However, when mixed up with a mineral oil (most motor oils are based on these), they will produce nasty sludge. I believe this is what happened.
Can you try raising the compression significantly with jb weld filler on the head and piston to try to run the motor on gas, and on diesel with no spark plug. I have seen boxer motors with extremely high compression run gasoline with no spark plugs. I have also seen them run on diesel.
G,Day Mate i watched an old war 11 movie sub,s where the engine man put whiskey into the diesel to get 300 more RPM,s will a diesel with whiskey in it .Thanks from down under.

That's pretty refined. As an Iberian person... Not sure how I feel about it, because while it look like a waste of yummy tasty olive oil... Something on me just say "DO IT"! lol
I was an elevator mechanic by trade...40 years of it. Toward the end of my career some companies switched their hydraulic oil to a bio degradable vegetable based fluid. (BIG selling point and VERY expensive) The oil stayed in the 80 tp 100 degree area and....being biodegradable... there was all kinds of odd looking things that grew in that oil! floating around! I had it tested and never received a straight answer......maybe an engine would keep it hot enough to kill off the nasties....or we hope so
I use canola cooking oil in all my chainsaws as 'bar oil', chain last just as long as using motor oil or correctly labeled bar oil. But a big difference in chain life between cheap chains verses a quality Still chains.
Not for long, one of the main causes of bearing failures on old two stroke GM diesels was fuel dilution of the crankcase oil, GM engines had the fuel lines internal to the valve covers, any fuel leaks went into the oil pan. Diesel fuel is very similar to Kerosene (Jet Fuel) it's a great solvent.
Back in the 30s-50s, this wasn't uncommon to do for a few minutes in order to clean engines out every so often; the old oil gunked up considerably. Maybe I'm mistaking it with kerosene, though.
Corn fed pigs have a thicker lard vs our free range pigs (fed grain other than corn) . At room temp its still liquid while commercial hogs it would be solid. something to think about
In my country some motorcycle rider use cooking palm oil mix with 1/3 turbo diesel engine oil for drag racing, cooking oil viscosity is quite thin and lubes as good as 5w30 eo, motorcycle with wet clutch need a thicker oil to avoid clutch slipping, so to get the best lube without going for higher viscosity oil they came up with their own recipe its kinda weird but it works.

Gutsup wow. I never even knew 0w16 existed until today. What are the factory recommended oil change intervals on those oils?
I used Mazola in my 3 wheeler to get it out of deer camp. It smelled like I was riding a deep fryer! (It always burned oil while I had it).
LOL! Glad it worked!
upside downdog the clutches hate you
Project Farm
Lol same but different.
Standard blue washer fluid (2gallons) got me home after I burst a coolant hose in the car and repaired it.
Notice I was careful to not say “blew a hose” 🤔😬😬
Lol Mazola corn oil is also packaged by Stratas Foods LLC.
@MrHillfolk
A guy was traveling with his family when his car broke down.
I'm not sure who gets the most joy out of these videos, You making them or, Me watching them. I look forward to watching them all. Thank you for the joy :-)
Thank you very much!
Thanks for commenting on this.
Hence, vegetable based oil could do very well if the right kind, rightly processed, and has the right additives (as pretty much all oils made and sold now, have various additives to help improve their performance, longevity, temp stability, oxidation levels, etc).
Probably Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Wait why would the rep replace an engine damaged by olive oil
Never mind that! - more importantly, will engine oil work as vegetable oil?!
LOL! The detergents are very bad.
I'd say that would be a funny april fools joke, but I bet somebody would take it seriously
Nothing quite like French 🍟 Fries, with that hydro-carbon flavor.
These fries taste like a farm truck😂😂
+jandastroy In a world where people eat tide pods, nothing seems to be off the table anymore
The slow motion shots are absolutely incredible! Great work, and great content!!
Thank you!
Yeah, the slo-mo stuff was cool.
what kind of camera do you use for the Slow-mo shots?
The cold test at 3:36 cracked me up. The "plop" sound killed me!
Thanks for watching.
Never would have expected it to do this good. Thanks for another great video sir!
Thank you!
I love the fact that almost no one dislikes your videos, keep up the good work !!!
Thank you!
“Now, what we will be doing today differently than in the past, is after an hour of hard use, we will be removing the vegetable oil and making some yummy 🍟!”
😁
LOL! Thanks
Talking about some fries... How did the heated oil smell?
Robert Steich running it in my tractor instead of diesel made a smell between McDonald’s and burning vegetable oil. It wasn’t at all unpleasant.
Project Farm how did it smell when you lifted the head off for the “after” pic?
I’m thinking fries now ttyl😂
Hay its ready for a fast food place near you yum
these videos could not be more well done.
Thank you!
Finally, I've been waiting all week for your new video .
Thank you!
The semi-thawed oil plopping into the cup was the highlight for me.
LOL!
Project Farm mineral oil please I beg
Will baby oil work engine oil?
Thank you for this recommendation!
it could, it is mineral oil, also it might catch fire! lol
I think it will run pretty hot
Burn baby burn!
Jeremiah Clemens
Yes. As I recall it's a Paraffin oil. Might have a low flash point and equally become far too thin when heated.
Thanks for the feedback.
Thank you for creating these videos by the way. My wife and I try to watch a video an evening. I really like what you do and I like that you are not sponsored by anyone making everything more fair. Keep making these, they are very enjoyable! Big fan of you and your videos.
Thank you very much!
Try Dawn dish soap as a substitute for oil
Thank you for this recommendation!
That would be awesome
Montana lifestyle soap is a surfactant so I don’t think it would work.
Dennis Gibson II should still try it to see what happens
I’ve been think this ever since I’ve seen these videos
Will an engine run on Zippo fluid?
Thank you for this recommendation!
Sure it will.
Great idea
I guess seafoam would flush that out anyway.
Put some petrol in the vegetable oil (5-15%) it stops the vegetable oil from any sort of solidifying.
many years ago, a race car driver at the Indy 500 used water as a substitute for oil during a pitstop as he was not allowed to add anything but water, and still won the race. I think it was in the '30s
Wow!
stacy gardner .
Water added to the crankcase?
I read about this before. The race regulations had a limit of how much of each fluid you could add during the race. He had surpassed his quota on oil so threw in the water as it was available and not over limit.
Water is the fastest way to spin the bearings.
My car is vegan.
lol
My diesel engine runs on bacon grease and is cooled by environmentalists’ tears.
In order for it to remain non, or much less, toxic, it would have to be a newer engine in very good shape, and you would need to change the oil more quickly.
and is Gluten Free & does Cross Fit & has to let everyone know (whether they ask or not).
Heck, yeah! Now we're talking!
Thank you!
Canola oil. Been using that to restore tools and lubricate parts. Best stuff I ever used. Seems to handle cold temperatures better than other oils I have tried so far.
Thanks for sharing.
OK NOW PLEASE USE MELTED LARD AS an oil substitute !!!
Thank you for this recommendation.
Dude r u Brandon Allen the power lifter??!!!
Alfonso Bernabe WHAT ???
Mmmmm, french fries.....
Top gear usa they used lard syrup and ky jelly in there cars
Also you should try using astroglide as engine oil.
Thank you for this recommendation too.
R2Bl3nd water based or silicone? I feel that water based wouldn't work at all since it is well....water. The silicone is very light but should be a little better.
all you would see is the engine grow a beard and get tough
I'd love to see this with a bunch of various oil stabilizers added. Lucas, liquid molly, seafoam, etc.
Nice work
Thanks! Thanks for the suggestion.
Thank you very much!
Todd
Thank you for another entertaining video. Keep up the good work. Excellent Editing.

General Repair, Thank you for the positive comment!
Finally a decent demonstration. Thanks for doing this video. Great job. 🇺🇸
Thanks so much!
How about an Ethylene Glycol lubricity test? Since its used to lubricate water pumps how will it lubricate an entire engine?
Thank you for this recommendation!
hmm i like that idea, i think it should work quite well!
Water pumps have sealed bearings.
You, sir, are a true scientist! Thank you!
Thanks
After viewing the video. Well, I'm extremely surprised! Your engine ran for 1 hour without noticeable damage. And I'm amazed at the lubricity test! To sum up, the test didn't work as I'd expected. In an emergency situation, vegetable oil could replace the engine oil of your car, but of course, just a few miles and keeping the RPM moderate...
Great assessment. The vegetable oil will leave a messy residue inside of an engine. So, an oil change directly after using it would be wise. Thanks again.
Baby oil works too
Thank You Project Farm I’ve Been Waiting On this Test 😀😃😀 I’m Glad You Put it thru The Tests And On The Bearing It Seemed as It Performed Well And It Looked Like it Worked Equally As Well in the Engine Slight Amount Of Sludge On The Head n Piston Crown but Considering it was Ran For an Hour Nothing That Bad Thanks So Much Project Farm Keep Up The Awesome Videos Well Keep Watching 😀👍🏼😎👍🏼
Thank you!
Thank you for putting temperatures in Celsius as well it helps for us in the British colonies great videos
Thanks for the feedback.
I am amazed at the results of running vegetable oil in the crankcase, and that the engine lasted for an hour happy to see this test I suggested it ,thank you for your videos
Thank you!
I would really love to see you put that in a fairly modern car say 2000 and up like Toyota and run it around town for a while to see how long it would last. Please..
Thank you!
@Bill Williams ur just mad toyotas are better than your fucked over rebuilt dodge
@@longflare How many liters is that per 5000 km?
mount an alternator to lawnmower engine either replacing the blades with a gear of some kind or using them as a flywheel and compare power output, charge capacity, & efficiency of it vs a name brand generator . direct drive alternator lol
Great video with a practical engine test instead of some lab comparison! Thank you! Some suggestions, if you ever re-do it:
1. before-and-after comparisons could show pictures after running it with vegetable oil vs. picture after running it with mineral oil. The vegetable oil vs. clean-scrubbed piston crown does not yield much useful information and may make any oil look bad.
2. Rapeseed oil is the traditional steam engine lubricant so reasonably is the best oil to start with. It has the property of adhering to both wet and dry metals.
Thanks for the suggestion.
During WW2 rapeseed oil also known as Canola oil was extensively used as lubricant in substitution of petroleum based oil.
Thanks for the feedback.
"Honey I need a liter of canola oil!!"
"Kinky...😉 "
"Damnit women. I need to cut the lawn. It's an emergency!!!"
No
Canola oil lasts a lot longer than soy oil. It should actually work.
I’ve always wondered. Thanks for the great video!!
Thank you!
I think that oil flushed the engine
Great point!
I don't know, it was extremely gray.
a flush would indeed come out dirty, but then again, i think it just burned and left its own coating anyway
maybe
wow! wow! smoke! its me cj
You did this video 3 years ago, this is the first I seen it, and what do I think? Great as always! I will get to see all you're videos after awhile, it might take me awhile but it is well worth it!!
Thanks!
YES I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the video.
Vegetable oil as gasoline. U know like the old man who runs his car with oil.
Thank you for the video idea!
Wont run a desle engin will thoe
In a petrol engine, forget about it. In a diesel it would work fine.
Since Diesel and mineral white spirit feels oily... Can you test again the same way please! Maybe a cheap base plus a snake oil additive until the motor stops - (do bearing test after 1 hour)
Thank you for this recommendation!
I was looking for his, and knew you’d have it. I’d love to see a new version of this using different cooking oils. Avocado oil, in particular, always seems like it is among the slickest of cooking oils, and also has a high smoke point, and I think it might fair pretty well in this test, and might even beat motor oil.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm doing my usual and voting yes........for a while. Anything slick will work but some not for very long. Thanks Much in advance for another good one Commander. Happys to you and yours!
Lewie, Always great seeing your reply! Thanks for watching the video and hope all is well with you and yours!
Fine so0 far and it looks like we might need to swap for some 15w40 Wesson instead of Delo or Valvoline! Thanks again, Commander. A-PLUS!
Commander? I thought it looked like you were in the military. I always wanted to ask, but didn't want to leave a comment unrelated to the video. I actually just got out of the Navy myself.
Russell Poyner Thank you for your service to our Country! My dad was LTC Full Time in the Texas Army National Guard. Was promoted to full Colonel posthumously after being killed by a drunk driver outside Denver, Colorado in 1987. Take Care & never take one moment with loved ones for granted.
BLESS YOU MY SON! The Commander was Air Force and I was Army RVN. Good to be home. AIN'T it!
Hey project farm guy! I love your videos and I think they’re super useful, so thank you and keep making them! I was wondering if there is any video of how the lubricity tester works if there is no oil at all, I think that would be a great example on how much wear it can cause with no oil. Thank you!
Thank you
Could you try straight up water??? Pure H2O?
I predict we will be learning about polymerization soon
LOL! Great point.
Loved this video. Very informative and very well done. I have subscribed.
Thanks and you are welcome! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Stage 1 upgrade kit for Predator compared to a bone stock Predator. I recently did a stage 1 upgrade to my mud motor. I can tell it breathes easier with the upgrades. I know the EPA chokes these poor engines down and leans them out so much it's surprising that they run. I'd love to see a torture test comparing a bone stock Predator to a simple stage 1 Predator
Many of us building these mud motors are afraid to build too much, but the bone stock motor often run too lean. After sure long runs they won't crank. It'd be nice to have some kind of raw data like your torture test. Thanks!
Thank you for this recommendation!
Black Warrior Lures I have the bone stock and thanks for explaining that. I'm going to buy the stage one for my engine!
Wow.. great job as always man. I was wondering about this same thing yesterday so it's cool to see this experiment be done.
Thank you!
"let's see how well it flows". ...............................*flop.
I think that might be the exact model of mower i used to use when I was nine years old to mow out quarter acre lawn! Great machine
Thank you
Now try coconut oil. It's all the rage in the health food industry right now. Kidding of course. It's solid at room temperature, so I imagine it would be about useless.
LOL!
in its liquid state its extremely thin too!
You could warm it up in a container filled and kept separated by it being in another container with hot water so that its fully liquid. Then pour it in and give it a try. but I dont think it would be anywhere near as good as vegetable oil or canola oil.
its superrrrr thin and runny as soon as it becomes liquid.
In the future I will run my machine on plants and frying oil.
You should do gear oil next. I've always seen a similarity in the consistency of oil additives (like Lucas) and gear oil.
Thank you for this recommendation.
Drew L When i change the oil in my lawnmower i add some 80w-90 because only 10w-30 is thin as piss
Drew L I always add a little gear lube about a quart to all my truck 300 k on 2 motors so far
dirty roofer well I was walking through autozone the other day and saw a Lucas oil stabilizer display, that one with the gears that you crank and of course the gears with the Lucas have more oil coverage than the normal oil.
This is now one of my favorite channels.
Thanks!
Try some ky jelly or astroglide for engine lube. Good for friction but what about heat?
Thank you for this recommendation!
Sounds fun but all that might be expensive but I don’t have price knowledge on that
Kenric Sukalski I got a barrel in my basement for... activities and it’s not too bad at least for a lawnmower.
Thank you for the video idea on HHO! I need to build an HHO setup.
What about using gasoline as engine oil? Maybe it combusts in the crankcase?
Thank you for this recommendation!
Shammy Ali cant wait for him to do this! lol just for kicks n giggles
no lubricity
Water would be a better lubricant than gas. Gas actually would strip any oil left in the crankcase.
RichieRichOverdrive Agreed! Gas is an AMAZING solvent for cleaning oily parts lol
Love how you get to the point.. Straight down to business.. 👍
Thank you!
Great Show !!!!!!
Thank you!
I once used palm oil as 2 stroke oil for my lawn movers. The engine stuck after several mowing events
Wow! Thanks for commenting on this.
wow u really spending time to read all comments. Kudos to you sir
gummed up
On their own, vegetable oils could potentially work as lubricants. However, when mixed up with a mineral oil (most motor oils are based on these), they will produce nasty sludge. I believe this is what happened.
"Renewable Lubricants Inc." interesting!
Thank you
I LOVE communicating with YOU as well..........!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!
Can you try raising the compression significantly with jb weld filler on the head and piston to try to run the motor on gas, and on diesel with no spark plug. I have seen boxer motors with extremely high compression run gasoline with no spark plugs. I have also seen them run on diesel.
Thank you for this recommendation.
G,Day Mate i watched an old war 11 movie sub,s where the engine man put whiskey into the diesel to get 300 more RPM,s will a diesel with whiskey in it .Thanks from down under.
Greetings and thank you for this recommendation!
goldwingman1500 it’s ethanol, basically. It’s used in gasoline engines all the time. A little would help the diesel flow better, too much would blow the engine!
Will olive oil work
Thank you for this recommendation!
That's pretty refined.
As an Iberian person... Not sure how I feel about it, because while it look like a waste of yummy tasty olive oil... Something on me just say "DO IT"! lol
I was thanking samething
I think olive oil has a relatively low burn temperature compared to other food oils, but I'm going from memory and could be wrong.
Ti M I have liters and liters of used olive oil... I wonder how well they would work! lmao!
Glad to see this video because I once put vegetable oil in a generator . Since then I've wondered if I may have damiged it.
Thanks for watching!
You should see if liquid soap would work as oil
Thank you for this recommendation!
OH DON'T BE RIDICULOUS!!!! (sarcasm)
I think it will dry up quite fast. Try to scrub it in your hands without water, you will have your hands covered with sticky and hard residue
I had it tested and never received a straight answer......maybe an engine would keep it hot enough to kill off the nasties....or we hope so
lol. Wow! Thank you for the feedback
I laughed out loud at 3:36
LOL! That was funny to see it happen in live.
TechMaster2133 glad to see I wasn’t the only one hahah
I use canola cooking oil in all my chainsaws as 'bar oil', chain last just as long as using motor oil or correctly labeled bar oil. But a big difference in chain life between cheap chains verses a quality Still chains.
Thanks for sharing.
could you run diesel as engine oil?
Thank you for this recommendation.
Not for long, one of the main causes of bearing failures on old two stroke GM diesels was fuel dilution of the crankcase oil, GM engines had the fuel lines internal to the valve covers, any fuel leaks went into the oil pan.
Diesel fuel is very similar to Kerosene (Jet Fuel) it's a great solvent.
whorayful It can catch fire or make the engine go berserk
Back in the 30s-50s, this wasn't uncommon to do for a few minutes in order to clean engines out every so often; the old oil gunked up considerably. Maybe I'm mistaking it with kerosene, though.
Austin Lucas Just at idle tho, if you do this for more than like 5 minutes it can boil and catch fire.
Run engine with hydrogen
Thank you for this recommendation!
It's pretty hard and expensive to get liquid hydrogen
The Wheelman hydrogen can be made with electrolysis, you just need a car battery
Antonio tod dissolve zink/aluminium in HCl or aluminium in NaOH(aq) ....
Hydrogen is quite accessable
Sounds like a decent idea.
What about bacon grease
Thank you for this recommendation!
Project Farm I've always wondered what would it do to a motor
Tanner Warren
Lol mom used to keep a jar of it in the fridge for cooking.
I’d figure if ya just warm it up good, pour it in and let it rip!
Corn fed pigs have a thicker lard vs our free range pigs (fed grain other than corn) . At room temp its still liquid while commercial hogs it would be solid. something to think about
You really make some great content👍👍👍 awesome
I appreciate that!
This is great information. Thank you!
RushDark Wich country? 😂
Dollar Tree motor oil. You should definitely test that stuff.
Urgh. I saw the virgin oil analysis for Dollar General's Non Detergent Straight 30 (tested in 2011 or so) and it was a vastly out of date oil; good for about 1932. I don't imagine Dollar Tree's gonna be a lot better.
@@101Volts dollar tree oil says its a synthetic blend.
this video is very informative and complete with all the data as well as the comparison with a regular engine oil. Awesome content and presentation
Thank you!
I smells good what you cooking ? A lawnmower, I pass I'll take the salad
EXCELLENT ! we just cut the Salad and raked it up fresh !
