Then I turned the bottle upside down and strapped it above the carburetor with a bungee cord. I poked a vent hole to prevent vacuum lock. That quart of charcoal lighter fluid was enough to get us down the mtn to a repair shop!
VW,= 4 Briggs & Stratton engines with common crank shaft and camshaft therefore it will run on almost anything flammable! As with a lot of alder engines, Pre 1974, (first computers). Now we know that a fire needs three things to burn, ignition, fuel, oxygen, for most fires. So if you lit a match it would be the catalyst, that leaves either substance being burned , or the oxygen as the true fuel? Remember all fires need oxygen, except some metals, such as Magnesium, this metal gives off oxygen when it burns, thus most firefighters will foam it down and let it burn it self out.

When we were packing up to leave on Sunday we realized that the truck was very low on fuel and we were miles away from a gas station. We of course ran out before we made it to the station and it wasn’t safe to walk due to bear activity in the area. (This was before cell phones) The only option we had was a gallon of Coleman lantern fuel. Dad poured it in the tank and hoped for the best. The truck started, ran like crap and knocked like crazy but it got us to the gas station. Needless to say we always packed a 5 gallon gas can every time we went camping after that.
Bears? Why wouldn't you pack a suitable defense firearm in bear country? I've come within 20 yards of a sow with cubs, I was very glad I had a rifle aimed at her while I yelled at her. Luckily she gathered her cubs and left, but I met a guy years later who ended up dispatching an angry bear with an axe. Never will I venture into the woods without a defensive tool.
Oh believe me you can! Just ask my drunk-ass neighbor! He cooked his burgers, the grill, and half his freaking house! The vapors lit off, he dropped the gas can which tipped over toward the patio door. But he and his dog were great!

Could you evaluate laundry detergent? There are so many brands and variations within the same brand all with so many claims. Thanks for your great work!
Fabric softener is horrible stuff. First off, the smell stays around for days, which is offputting and gross. Then there are the chemicals in there that ruin the flame retardant qualities of many fabrics. A wax like coating on washcloths and the like keeps them from properly absorbing water, and this builds up over time. Not to mention the fact that dirt seems to stick to the clothes faster the next time you wear them. So skip the fabric softener.
Before watching - sure it will, but depending upon the flashpoint, knocking may occur and the quality of the burn and resulting deposits, as well as the energy content will vary. Thus the 'quality' of the fuel may be detrimental to the engine.
70% Vodka mix with 30% charcoal fluid. 70% Perfume mix with 30% jet fuel . 50% bioethanol and 50% isopropyl alcohol. Let's do mixing several fluids together and see if they become more potent, and or mixtures that might be very good but help save budget (economically speaking).
You know, I hit refresh on youtube several times a day hoping for a new Project Farm video. It's like a mythbusters for "handymen". Thanks for your hard work!
Congratulations and kudos to O'Reilly Auto Parts for injecting very, very short ads! I appreciate that they're not long and disruptive to watching the video, and I am still humming the catchy jingle. Very cool project on this one. There are 2 things in this world I can absolutely count on in this life. 1 the sun will rise and and my Project Farm video on Monday. Excellent job...... as always
Lets try some 80 proof tequila, vodka, Bacardi 151 rum and some good ole moonshine! Should run better than e-85 and you might get happy testing the stuff! If you leave the bar at night after having one social drink 2 hours before and find someone siphoned your gas tank! Well, run back in and by some liquor for your tank. Great review but what would lighter fluid do to the cats and other emissions equipment? It doesn't look like it is as clean burning as other fuel.
Why would you think liquids with less of the same alcohol in it would work better? Both e85 and all alcohol for consumption are Ethyl alcohol, also know as ethenol. Alcohol+ gasoline is obviously a better fuel then water with some alcohol such as the things you listed
@@jaydunbar7538 I know alcohol as I made it and ran it in vehicles back in the 70's OPEK oil fiasco. Never mixed it with gasoline as ethanol is an excellent fuel alone. 80 prof alcohol runs great in gasoline engines, you can run from 70 to 90 prof with 75 being the most efficient in gas engines. I run alcohol in my mower and have been doing so since the 70's I still have my Ford 390 V-8 running on ethanol. I ran alcohol in 6 cylinder engines, fire breathing V-8's and race cars. Indy racers run ethanol because it is safer than methanol or gas. Do some research on alcohol fuel before you become critical of someone in the know!.
Should be similar to E100 (commonly sold in brazil or 92-95% ethanol) just need to adjust the engine air fuel ratio properly and start it over 15c or use petrol/gasoline to cold start. Also here's his video about the 91% ruclips.net/video/hJKZ_41wbcM/видео.html, he should make a new one though.
Baylans mess of a sh!t ton of videos Haha I say that joke all the time! I am a Ford guy myself, but no doubt old international engines were excellent, like the DT-436, or DT-466 or the IDIs, really good engines. They sounded pretty mean to lol
WAIT, you forgot the most important part. You have to add charcoal to the gas tanks. Then you put the fluid in the tank. Maybe lighting the charcoal IN the tank then starting the engine would work better.🤜🤛

Teenager and my friends and I would put anything petroleum based in our old 63 dodge dart with a slant six we mixed diesel and kerosene with the gas and it burned oil so we would swipe any kind of oil from one of my friends dads who was a logging equipment guy. That crankcase saw everything from transmission fluid to 90 weight gear oil and every weight of engine oil made! Thanks for your hard work making entertaining and informative videos!
Love your vids! You have proven that a low compression engine, with 95-120 psi will run on a bunch of 'alternative fuels'. But in a car with a healthy engine? No way!
Growing up in Alaska, I heard a lot of tales told about emergency measures to get a person home. One in particular would be suited to your channel: Leather piston rings cut from a waist belt. Supposedly soaking the leather in oil before cutting reduces unwanted swelling. I seem to remember a tech instructor mentioning leather rings in early engines as well.
Ive never heard of leather for the rings but my grandpa has a 1910 sears and Roebuck horseless carriage and in that thing the belt that drives the fans is leather, the brake pads are leather the seal for the oil pan also leather and the bottom of the jug for the piston think where the cylinder wall meets to the crankcase but they can separate uses leather

On occasion, as a young person with not much sense, I'd run the push-style lawnmower on charcoal lighter fluid. Fortunately, most lawnmowers of this style aren't subjected to heavy loads--they just spin the blade. Worked well enough and didn't kill the thing.
Answering questions I didn't know I needed the answers to haha! You should do a windshield washer fluid comparison to see which is best. You can test freezing point, bug washing ability, corrosion on paint etc. With winter coming up it may be interesting for viewers. Keep up the great content!
I was really broke and had to get to work. My 1947 80 cubic inch Harley Flathead went for three days on Charcoal Lighter. It smelled like a bar-b-cue at stoplights. The old chopper got me through the hard times.

Man, after watching all your videos on alternative fuel I’ve realized that a small carbed engine will LITERALLY RUN ON ANYTHING
You are right! Thank you
Well, yeah, it's a "combustion engine". You just need to adjust for stoichiometry .
Alucard Pawpad anything else you would like to add, Mr. Nye?
@@ElGuero227 Yeah. It's literally just a syringe that squirts air and fuel in. If it can burn outside, it can burn inside. :>
Alucard Pawpad Thank you Bill, very cool!
This has to be my favorite channel on RUclips I'm pretty sure I've seen every video. It just never gets old!!!

Thank you for the video idea!
Fun video, the EFI engine was a great addition to the series!
Thank you!
Before watching - sure it will, but depending upon the flashpoint, knocking may occur and the quality of the burn and resulting deposits, as well as the energy content will vary. Thus the 'quality' of the fuel may be detrimental to the engine.
If Project Farm has taught me anything its after doing this run some antifreeze in the gas to clean out the buildup and you will be fine again...
Thank you!
Thank you for the video idea!
You know, I hit refresh on youtube several times a day hoping for a new Project Farm video. It's like a mythbusters for "handymen". Thanks for your hard work!
Thanks for the feedback.

Very interesting to say the least. I Liked,Shared,Added to playlists.
All my best.
Thank you very much!!
Congratulations and kudos to O'Reilly Auto Parts for injecting very, very short ads! I appreciate that they're not long and disruptive to watching the video, and I am still humming the catchy jingle. I wish more advertisers would follow O'Reilly's lead, but we see some advertisers injecting minutes-long ads.
Thanks for the feedback.
Notification came up in the middle of a Jerry Rig Everything video... but I can go back to that later. 😁
Thank you!! Hope you enjoy the video!
This will come in handy for the apocalypse
Very cool project on this one. There are 2 things in this world I can absolutely count on in this life. 1 the sun will rise and and my Project Farm video on Monday. Excellent job...... as always
Thank you very much!!
I dont know if 80 proof would work maybe 180 proof everclear
Why would you think liquids with less of the same alcohol in it would work better? Both e85 and all alcohol for consumption are Ethyl alcohol, also know as ethenol. Alcohol+ gasoline is obviously a better fuel then water with some alcohol such as the things you listed
Thank you for the video idea!
0:35 The perfect displacement for an engine.
Edit:
You should try Isopropyl alcohol as a fuel. The 99% stuff.
Thank you!
Carlos Pulpo The first International IDI had a displacement of 6.9 litres and 420 cubic inches.
@@strawberryroan1941 13 letter shit spreader :D International. im sorry I had to lol an im a ford guy.
Baylans mess of a sh!t ton of videos Haha I say that joke all the time! I am a Ford guy myself, but no doubt old international engines were excellent, like the DT-436, or DT-466 or the IDIs, really good engines. They sounded pretty mean to lol
This is one of the best channels on RUclips!
Thank you!
WAIT, you forgot the most important part. You have to add charcoal to the gas tanks. Then you put the fluid in the tank.
Maybe lighting the charcoal IN the tank then starting the engine would work better.🤜🤛
lol. Thank you!!
Maybe if he wants to set his shop on fire lol

I really hope you keep these videos coming for as long as possible. Like maybe the next 30 years. I've really learned a lot and had fun watching

Swear I smelled that running but just the neighbors 😁
lol. The exhaust actually did smell like a BBQ. Very pleasant smell!
Same for me 😂
Could you run an engine on cheap hash oil or CBD oil? Duuud, what if u ran out of gas on the way back from Colorado or Area 51?... Great videos, thanks!...
Thank you for the video idea!
lol BRUH?
That would be really wasteful. Neither of those are cheap
Hemp oil is inexpensive and can be converted to diesel pretty easilly.
@@jk-76 hemp is yes but CBD is from marijuana, hemp oil is entirely separate.

I love how specific he is with the hypothetical situation
Thanks!
Your videos like this reminds me of when I was a.
Great memories! Thank you very much!!
👍's up guys thanks for taking us along with you
Love your vids! You have proven that a low compression engine, with 95-120 psi will run on a bunch of 'alternative fuels'. But in a car with a healthy engine? No way!
Growing up in Alaska, I heard a lot of tales told about emergency measures to get a person home.
One in particular would be suited to your channel:
Leather piston rings cut from a waist belt.

Thanks for the feedback.
Answering questions I didn't know I needed the answers to haha! You should do a windshield washer fluid comparison to see which is best. You can test freezing point, bug washing ability, corrosion on paint etc. With winter coming up it may be interesting for viewers. Keep up the great content!
