  • Video from an August 1998 visit to Quick Hill in Round Rock, Texas, the site of the house and property used in the filming of 1974's horror classic, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This is the last known video footage taken of the house before it was relocated later that month to Kingsland, Texas and converted in to a restaurant. With your hosts, K-tron (Kelsy Teague) and Mr Sludge (James Hall)

Why are so many people confused by this? The comments are hilarious. This is the house from the movie "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (original 1974 version). The movie was LOOSELY based on Ed Gein who lived in Wisconsin. Ed Gein's house burned down not the house in Texas from the movie. The house in Texas as seen in this video was later moved to Kingsland and made into a restaurant. This video, however, was made in 1998 when the house was still at Quick Hill. LOL.
    Thanks for the great video!

Playing the Texas Chainsaw Massacre game has gotten me into the history of this movie! Boy am I furious due to them basically building over this piece of historic landmark, why did the city ever decide it was a good idea to get rid of this land and build apartments over it, truly heartbreaking.

I've been a texas chainsaw fan as a kid and im happy that they finally made the game last year, And it's heartbreaking that greed took down this historic location.

Seems like this has been a rather dead comment section for a while, but thanks guys for sharing this with us! It looks like it's in its original condition basically! Just sort of old, dilapidated, but that makes it better!!! Why? Cause you guys caught this old farmhouse before any renovations it appears...so grateful for this film, thanks!!! A famous house indeed!!! PS: I enjoy watching urban exploring videos, and particularly enjoy old, abandoned, decaying farmhouses...but this is a big step up...Texas Chainsaw filmed here!!!!

Hard to believe that whole area is now a metropolis of new housing tracts and apartments and strip malls. There is apartment buildings now right up to where the house was. Where the stone house was across the street is now a 6 lane highway.

at [[3:08]] the other side of quick hill county road 172 (closed to vehicles since 1985) is briefly shown opposite the sawyer house.
in the movie, its franklin and sally's grandparent's limestone two-story house they walk through, looking at their childhood bedrooms with zoo animal decorations on the walls.
in february 1979, local beer-drinking teenagers burned it to rubble

Quick hill is so overgrown now that the drive way leading up to where the house was in this video is unrecognisable now. The grandparents house was right across the road from the leatherface house but was burnt down a few years after the movie finished filming.

I'd imagine in some areas of Texas and the West, some houses probably don't have basements cause of the terrain? Might it be the ground is too hard and not too easy to install(dig) a basement? I'd guess that, but that's just a guess. In many older homes like this, basements had to be dug out by the residents years after the houses were built, so maybe another factor as well. Whereas, say, in Pennsylvania, states such as that, the soil is rather easy to dig out cause the ground is softer, no desert, more rain etc in the Northeast, Midwest etc. Also, the need for coal bins, and central gas/coal/oil furnaces were very much needed up in the North, whereas Texas, not so much, well you may be able to install your furnace in a closet etc due to less heating needs.

If you google Ed Gein, it clearly states that he lived in Wisconsin and that is where the murders took place and that is where his house burnt down....so I know the movie was supposed to be based off of Ed Gein somehow but my question is why add the Texas part in there if he had nothing to do with Texas?
