I am resistant to join a club for two reasons 1.distance I live in Akron oh pretty much between two larger airports and the closest field is 20+ minutes away 2.cost I have younger friends who I got into the hobby and they would not be able to join me unless I were to pay whereas the "park" I fly at is free All that being said I still want to join a club just for the community anyway thanks Tim for the great video as always
So . . . my club is a 45 min drive away. 20 mins is a gift from the heavens!! Keep in mind that all AMA clubs seek junior (younger) members, often at a reasonable price. Tim
Hello, we’re practically neighbors. I’m just across the boarder. Anderson area in the upstate of SC. About 2 hours east of Atlanta. Where is your club if you don’t mind me asking? Clubs are a treasure for sure if you have access. There are 2 clubs near me. I’m blessed for sure. Enjoyed all your great points about joining a club. I got back in the hobby about 10 years ago. Loving it. Meeting and making friends at RC events is what it’s all about. Flying to me is just icing on the cake. 👍😉
Every single club that I tried or briefly joined is filled with a lot of older retire folks. No offense to anyone but it just seemed to me that most clubs in general don’t really promote interest from younger people who are interested in the hobby. Back when RC helis where more popular a lot of clubs weren’t too welcoming to them and now I see the same with quads and fpv. I get way more value just flying at an open field and getting help on how to fly and set up my quads and fpv planes on RUclips, discord, Facebook and RCgroups.
@@TimMcKay56 Sounds good on paper Tim however the hobby is small and the one who are getting into it nowadays are flying fpv. They are not interested in flying at an AMA club that doesn’t really care for fpv anyways.
The audio is much louder\better. I just joined my dad's club Oct 1. There's a chili cook-off next weekend. Should be a good time. But it's a beautiful field and very friendly group.
Problem is many are in my situation. I live in a small town with no model airplane club. The only clubs are hours away so I am not interested in driving that far just to fly. So we end up outlaws I guess. If you live in an area like mine you sure do not want to broadcast your location to those that know nothing about the hobby. When the news media named our quadcopters drones that really made people think they were being spied on. One of the worst thing that has happened to this hobby and I stopped watching news that day. I still call them quadcopters or multirotors. I can put a camera on my dirt bike and it will leave the ground, is it a drone too? Ridiculous stuff.
Id love to for all the reasons stated here but since i live in a large city most clubs are futher away than id like to drive. If i move outside the city id definitely join one.
Tim you almost missed one good reason. Karen and her poodle, cannot harass you for flying an RC aircraft at the club field. You can politely insist that they leave. Was it superstition stopping there from being number 13?
I just finished training with my club to be an instructor, I'm really excited to help some of the other new guys learn!
Wonderful, so glad to hear! Tim

Idea; Why not consider joining an RC club and be their youth outreach officer, get younger folks to join? Tim

You know, it just takes 5 adults and $40 to form your own AMA club. Can get a FRIA, etc. I’m surprised more folks don’t take advantage of this. 😊 Tim
You left out the most important aspect... the social setting of meeting with friends.
Agree!
Those are Not your friends! Would any of them take a Bullet for you?

Ah, the dreaded, long feared and rarely seen Karen. With a poodle. Next to the Lock Ness sea monster. Do we finally have a sighting?? 😳😁 Tim
