Even if the main story didn’t have a great ending, Im quite happy with the Yamai story.
If there's one thing I will commend Like a Dragon for... it's the usage of Purple Flames. Definitely adds an extra kick to it.

Geez. They didn't need to do another cool fight with Yamai after Chapter 7, but here we are. He was already fully unleashed last time, but now he decides to add a flaming crowbar into the mix. Goddamn it, someone on the RGG development team loved this character.
So, how old is Yamai? He can't be younger than Kiryu, right? If he is older, then his Chinese zodiac sign should be the fire monkey.
He is younger than Kiryu. Yamai, like many people in the Tojo Clan, looked up to Kiryu and aspired to be like him.

It's because in the Yakuza games, most of the heat actions are called Essence of "Something". It's just their way of carrying it over into the turn based games.
Also you should finish Kiwami 2. Not sure which spoiler you're talking about specifically, but as someone who got nearly every game in the series spoiled for me, so much of these games is about the journey rather than the destination.

You are right about finishing the game the part that got me to stop was after running around for an eternity with Haruka doing things to get a rating up someone told me how Sayama Kaoru is connected to it all right then when i was making my own assumptions how the pieces fit into place.
As for the games I played in order was yakuza 6, zero 3x, kiwami then kiwami 2. But honestly the best time i had in these games where running the cabaret club (at first just for the fighting style) slot racing and fighting in purgatory. Baseball manager was fun too in 6.
