And here we are, officially done with archiving/uploading the story fights of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. This one is pretty mixed for most people for a lot of understandable reasons. I think for me personally, the more I see it, the more I appreciate it. I can see what they wanted to do with Ebina, even if it could've been done better. The fight's cinematic bits are amazing, but I do wish that the party members didn't get completely floored in the intro and that at least one of them would land one small hit in. Regardless, this is a pretty fun fight and I enjoyed it. I like that it has a QTE in the middle and then another one at the end! Overall thoughts on the story as I mentioned previously in either streams or the third episode of the RGG Cast: I really like this game overall. Some story segments could've been done better, and I wish the DLC wasn't as horrendous as it is. Other than that, this is a solid game and definitely a top tier one for me.

Ebina's dynamic intro only introduces him with his name with no title, no ex-captain of the Seiryu Clan or head of Bleach Japan. Unlike the other final bosses who don't have a title or reverted to their previous one, Ebina only saw being in a high position of power as a means to accomplish his true goal. It was even hinted in his introduction how he didn't care about being chairman when he had his video conference on the sofa instead of by the chairman's desk.
Not a new phenomenon though; Y5 also had Aizawa's title intro by his name only and not "something of Tojo Clan", so Kiryu has fought power-hungry fools before too.

@idfkimaclown 4's final boss was Munakata, who, again, was not loyal to the police force he worked for and used the power for selfish reasons.
I like to headcanon that the titles are what the playable character sees the boss as. A comment in a Y6 related video (not sure if it was the Iwami battle theme or the fight itself) brought that idea up- and I really liked it.
@@diablow1411 That has no relevance at all. Majima, Kiryu, Daigo, etc did not have their titles in their boss names.
Even tho ppl really complained about him , i deeply appreciated the fact that Ebina has probably the fanciest moveset for a finalboss in the mainline series , i mean just look at the Eternal torment or Wheel of Samsara 🤣

The ending of this fight with kiryu having a breakdown just begging ebina to stop was just so unexpected and emotional.
Tsueno Iwami, and the future of the yakuza and how they’re all doomed to be slaves of corrupt CEOs or Government suits using them for vile purposes (which ended up getting proven true with RK and the Tokyo Omi). Iwami is the perfect antithesis to Kiryu, the ideal yakuza.
Kosei Shishido, and the oldschool yakuza and how they have no place anymore. Their way of life is outdated and ideals do more harm than good. If Iwami is what the cycle has become, Kosei is finally destroying it. Shishido is no different to 0 Kiryu, and Kiryu is putting to rest his old self and the concept of the ideal yakuza.
And now, Masataka Ebina, and the sins of the yakuza. The end of denial of the harm the yakuza do, whether old or new. No more romanticizing, just the truth that needs to be atoned. Ebina is Kiryu’s self hatred personified, and the fight is Kiryu finally overcoming it.
Kiryu’s finale wasn’t one game, but a 3 game/7 year long final stand against his mental struggles and the concept of the yakuza itself!

These are some of the best move names in the entire series. They're so over the top and I love them.
i'm sure they have some tie to them that makes sense for ebina's character but i really don't know all too much. Some have been really in your face though like sawashiro's in 7 or Wong tou's elegance imbued in his skill move names.

I'm happy Ebina wasn't another power hungry villain, but more similar to Jin Kuwana, as in someone who wanted to deliver punishment.

Yeah, feel like the devs intentionally made Essence of Rememberance specifically for Kiryu's shirtless version. The way the camera shows his back tattoo at the beginning and the end of that Essence, is something we wont be able to fully experience when he wears a shirt

As people have said Ebina could have used some more screen time, but he's really great in this scene.
Best intro in the game for me. Ebina easily going through the party members while looking at Kiryu the whole time, not to mention the name drop part is all around👌
Saeko does make a point about Ichiban's true self of helping other people.
His son Yoshio (a made up character of mine for a fanfiction that involves Death Note and Masato Arakawa being alive, being fully on the dark side, Prime Minister of Japan and Kira all at once) even calls him a personal hero for helping the society out in the hardest times.

Ebina was a villain the series needed for so long, if you ask me.
In the background of all the tales of glory, honor, and strength we see, people like Ebina are left behind to suffer and languish. He finally forces Kiryu to admit that the Tojo could have been better, but he instead ran away and perpetuated the system - which is why I think the “Ichiban should’ve been here instead” criticism is silly.
Well, I'd say there's also important aspect of Ebina not seeing that, in his quest for justice, he ends up as bad, or even worse, person as those he wants to Punish.
Imo I don’t think Ichiban should have been here INSTEAD, I just think they both shoulda been here. Love this game but not having the protagonist present for the final boss is kinda strange imo
@@Scoobby96 Yeah, of course. Ebina’s plan is to lock as many yakuza as possible in a radioactive box in the middle of the Pacific, which is… very extreme.
My point was moreso about what he forces Kiryu (and the player) to acknowledge about the yakuza system. Hell, his backstory is about how he was abandoned by Arakawa - someone who the game and most of the characters treat and hail as a hero!
@@steampunker3843 Ichiban and Ebina being half-brothers makes the point of them fighting surface level. Kiryu on the other hand represents the Yakuza with the sins of their past trying to make amends for all of the victims.
Also Ichi and Bryce are foils to one another which makes more sense come to think of it.
Yeah Ichiban and Bryce would both not be there if not for other people but while Bryce chooses to rule his people ,Ichiban chooses to lead(paraphrased from an amazing comment I saw)
One of the strongest characters in the series. He almost won against Kiryu (yeah with cancer but still fucking Kiryu) and five other experienced people. And a very good villain, do not care what other people say. He will be appreciated in the future.

Ebina has already become one of my faves, And I'm certain people will appreciate him more over time.
Considering that Ebina knocked out everyone but Kiryu in his dynamic intro I'd like to believe that Kiryu fought him solo and won.

@@redbaronmars4176Kiryu, who is 55 and has terminal cancer, just finished fighting entire groups of yakuza throughout the Millennium Tower that he’s been fighting since outside the building for who knows how long. I’m pretty sure that would be a good ass reason as to why he is super tired. Plus I’m pretty sure the big 4 are starting to now lose their strength so makes sense why he was less tired there compared to an Ebina who is younger and physically more fit.

People tend to say Ryuji would beat Nishiki when in one night, Kiryu beat up the JWS from New Serena all the way to Kamurocho Hills, nearly got killed by Ryuji with a sword and was only exhausted from Ryuji. Guy is knocked out cold, Kiryu has to fight Tamara or whatever his name is, wielding a machine gun and has his personal guys and Kiryu still won with no bullets. Takes 3 gunshots to the chest, fights Ryuji again and my man did NOT have a single mark on him compared to Nishiki who gave him more trouble than the entire finale of 2(if you exclude the gunshot wounds).
The Finale was beautiful, while the game overall had some mistakes in the plot in the end, the end product was net positive, RGG story telling is amazing (outside a few details)
I find so funny how for such a massive Game the final Boss has such little screentime like i'm not kidding he only has like 10 more minutes than shishido Who was in a much shorter game

Why is rgg so allergic to giving their final bosses screentime? Like, this has been one of the most common complaints about the series among the fanbase for the longest time. Like, they gave the lost judgement final boss necessary screentime and, while the wider plot of the game may have some flaws, the final boss absolutely shined.

@@unclekaz3153 probably bc they have 2 types of villians. 1. The rival i.e kuze ryuji shishido and 2. The schemer aka ebina mine iwami and shibusawa. The schemer doesn't standout at the beginning and the idea is that they grow into their main role as you realize they have been this dangerous from the beginning. Usually you feel their actions via their orders. Tldr this type of villian has to have a specific amount of time to not give them away and so you get them by the end
People can say what they want about Ebina as a character and even a boss to a certain extent, but they can't say his boss theme End Of Denial isn't a banger. Again the most dramatic final boss theme in the entire series. Really gives a lot of weight to Kiryu. His regret of not changing the Tojo Clan and Yakuza world at large when he became 4th Chairman leading to the likes of Ebina suffering from the Yakuza world and how in this current fight he has to deal with him while fighting his own battle with cancer. Just...so much dramatic weight here.
The only boss in the game that gave me a challenge, I really liked his attacks and the way they looked, one of the most unique I've seen in the franchise.
Fun bit of trivia, Ebina’s actor Hiroki Hasegawa also played the character Rando Yaguchi, the main character of Shin Godzilla.

Another fun fact is that Ebina's model-actor (Hasegawa Hiroki) also appeared in the Japanese movie Why Don't You Play in hell?" along with Sawashiro's model-actor ( Tsutsumi Shinichi) as well.
One thing I feel many don’t bring is how I’m very confident that Ebina’s AI during his boss fight is designed to KO the party members first and leave Kiryu for last. As it fits how he hates the Yakuza and wants them to suffer as much as possible before they die.

Sadly fitting for the story, seeing as Ebina is the parallel of Ichiban if he had been forced with the burdens of the Yakuza from birth, or simply instead of being raised by the lower class, he was raised by the contrasting underworld. Both sons of Arakawa, plagued by stigma.
Now I knew I needed to defeat ebina, but when I saw him hurting the homies in the cutscene intro I had to destroy him
On my first playthrough he just keeped knocking my team members every turn, because i was underleveled, so i decided to finish fim solo. I consider it as a canon

Ebina oh ebina. I love this character and boss fight despite it being so painfully flawed. the tattoo and whole idea of his character being someone who hates the yakuza imo is interesting but what really wins me over is the lines after you beat him. About how no matter what promises the yakuza make about being honorable or better or any ideals at the end of the day they run a business that is inherently built of taking advantage and hurting people. I think he's right there and i like thia conflict. I just wish so so bad we got more of ebina beyond his grudge. Id love to see why his life revolves around hate. Is it because he is a sad shell underneath it all. A comment i read had this idea i love, that the reason ebina discarded his sheath is because he is planning to die. This is a suicide for him, literally/spiritually which is an interesting parallel to kiryu who wants to just die already and spends this game gaining the will to live again. But at las this is just reading too much. I still like the character as is and found him entertaining whenever he was on screen. Reminded me of sagawa and sawashiro. I never could get a read or understand him my first run. ALSO THE BOSS GOES HARD AF I LOVE THE MOVESET AND THE HEALING. Its a nice long slugfest and god the aoes are way better imo than having an instakill move. His theme is amazing its so melancholic. First phase kinda feels like for whose sake ps2. As in it feels like its trying to move to a climax but cant and it's just a sad clash of broken people. Then second phase sounds way way more dangerous. One last thing i love the type of beatup kiryu is at the end. The blood on his head looks so realistic and the man is tired. I sure do hope there isn't a nuclear trafficker named ebisawa who got arrested a month after this game dropped he ho
For me, the biggest issue with Ebina is that he is Aizawa 2. Different in terms of goals, but similar in execution. His motivations are not fleshed out enough to give people a reason to either feel sympathy or fear towards the character. People call Shishido as Aizawa 2, but Shishido has a fleshed out motivation and is a character to be feared from start to finish, he is the correction of the Aizawa prototype.
@shadowtoad95 Ngl but the whole writing of Gaiden and 8 has a lot of flaws in itself, but honestly at the very end of the game you can feel Ebina, cause he was one of these people that had his live ruined thanks to Yakuza ideologies. Though I think he wasn't ever meant to be a fearsome enemy, but rather a victim and a conclusion of Kiryu's "Yondaime" Arc. Throughout the whole 6 (7 if you count Gaiden) games, they did show how people were suffering due to Yakuza idealogies, but never showed a scene where Kiryu could've lead the tojo and yakuza world by himself to change it. And didn't get to fight any villian that was affected by the Yakuza idealogies
At least you could tell ebina was going to be the main antagonist. Aizawa flip flops from enemy to ally then drops from the face of the earth to suddenly being the final boss.
Ebina I feel needed more screen time and it shows in his prefight monologue (a cinematic cutscene to in game dailogue to cinematic cutscene, seriously?) His life as a kid and becoming a police officer to his hatred of the yakuza and Arakawa should been shown through out the game and not all in one go in the same scene. It'd be like if shishido gave his betrayal, omi alliance and final stand speech all in the same scene
I do really really like ebina as he is due to loving a couple scenes, him being a great reckoning of the romanticized yakuza we see and the reality, a great vocal performance that sells how unhinged and wrathful he is, PEAK BOSS FIGHT thats well balanced. And a beautiful track. I just think he could be a wee bit better. Also abt being ichis brother, i thinks he is supossed to mirror kiryu's relationship with ichi. Both causing him to change deeply. @thebiggestofmen definitely, I still like Ebina. It's just that with a few tweaks and additions, i think he could've been the best antagonist of the series.
Considering we aren't given a conclusion on Ebina (whether he was killed, arrested, Daidojied unless I'm misremebering), hopefully he returns as rgg has shown they can bring back faced scanned actors as seen with nanba and sawashiro.
Ok so, maybe I'm overthinking but the symbolism in that dynamic intro kick is making me crazy:
yes, it's reminiscent of the Mine intro in 3 because that was the first dynamic intro ever in the series and reminiscent of the Iwami intro in 6 because that was (supposedly at the time) the last game with Kiryu as a playable character, but here there's a relevant change: Kiryu isn't doing the kick in the air, but on the ground.
This is because, unlike 3 and 6 where at first we didn't knew if Kiryu would have died or not, here we know from the start that Kiryu is dying of cancer. So Kiryu staying on the ground while still kicking in response to Ebina's kick symbolizes this: unlike the past two times, his story won't go on because even if, as we all saw, he would have survived cancer, it still would have leave him weakened and not capable of fighting anymore, while Ebina's story (if RGG Studio doesn't throw him away) hasn't come yet to an end.
I probably wrote this in a very confused way but I hope I could convey the message as clearly as possible as to why I love this dynamic intro so much, probably my favorite ever as for now.
Also you know Ebina means business if he obliterated Sawashiro so easily

For the sake of the story, I was really expecting Kiryu to die here. At the Millennium Tower, a site of decades of bloodshed, where so many others before had met their fate (Tachibana, Nishiki, Someya, etc), it would've been so fitting as Ebina himself said.
Yes but also i'd hate that since it wouldn't have let kiryu 1. Go back to being himself and 2. Ichi told him straight up that he has to live and he cant die. The whole game is him learning to live with his mistakes and come out of his shell. Even if he doesn't have much time left. Imo it would be cheap to kill and since he have had "kiryu dies at the end" fakeouts so many times it wouldn't have hit imo. I think it was best done in y5. Anyway i think that him living doesn't make the cancer plot meaningless since it hit so hard bc you know the guy from y1 is gone. No matter what he cant do this anymore
Masataka is actually quite unique as a Boss to me. His reasons for despising Masumi is valid, but unfocused.
Masumi was actually one of the most decent Yakuza heads. He had a genuine good heart just like Ichiban, but more realistic to the World he lived in. Unlike Kasuga, who tried his hardest to see good in even the most lowest of people.
Kiryu is such a decent man and Yakuza as well. Wish him and Masumi could have met.

I mentioned about the thumbnails in the long battle video.
Now, with the final boss thumbnails, we got Kiryu and Kasuga in the aura based on the color they are standing within from Gaiden's IW demo option. Granted, Ichiban was standing on cyan instead of blue (technically, cyan is used interchangeably with blue), but nice touch indeed.
Man I really wish Ebina had more screentime and story presence so I could actually care about him, similiar to Ryo Aoki. His dynamic intro and theme are just way too good to be wasted on such a meh character. At least his voice actor did some damn good job playing him

Kiryu's team was tie with Daigo, Majima and Saejima. The fact that Ebina fought this team alone, even though he lost, is still very impressive. If Kiryu didn't have cancer, i believe Ebina could still give him a good fight 1on1.
Personally i would put him on the same level as Mine and Shishido, the strongest opponents Kiryu ever fought.
Also, this fight's theme song has a 80s feel to it, probably because Kiryu's story started in the 80s and this is the end of his journey, gives me so much nostalgia and emotions. We have come a long way together, Kiryu-san

I like Ebina as a final boss, but I don't like how its Kiryu who HAS the final boss. He should've fought Bryce (to mirror the Haruka situation) and Ichiban should've fought Ebina (to mirror the Nishiki boss themes, as well as Ryuji).
It also just feels weird as a send-off. Kiryu being the first one would really feel like he's "leaving it to Ichiban", which I think would be cool. At the very least, their fights should've been swapped in terms of when you do them. Kiryu first, Ichi last.
I've changed my mind. Eiji should've been the final boss, same as Aoki, 1v1 between them. Then the exact same final scene.
Of course, Ichi using Freelancer.

Ebina is so full of sass in this fight he pulls a better sky dancer(wheel of samsara) than yagami and has a taunt(guilty conscience)that REMOVES HIS DEBUFFS and has a good chance to enrage you💀 peak boss fight tbh (also guilty conscience is Mine’s taunt from Yakuza 3)

It's definitely coming sooner since Yokoyama confirmed there lot's of projects planned for 2024/25 and 26 but until then they need to properly build the story again Infinite wealth is a huge let down considering it cost a lot more time than Gaiden which someway had a better story

imagine playing like a dragon gaiden and then all of sudden, it remembers Yakuza 0 exists, it becomes about Majima again for no reason other than "You guys like the Lord of the night, right?" at the last chapter. The one to fight Shishido is him, not Kiryu. Sure it would be really cool, but just not worth the throwing the original character's momentum in the garbage.
As for Ebina, yes he is an antagonistic force for half of the game, what I'm not a fan of is what he does in that time. I don't know about you, but villains just all of a sudden expunging their sad backstory at the tail end isn't very interesting, it feels like the character made it up.
What I'm saying is, I'd like to know the antagonist's MO a little earlier, rather than right before you punch them in the face.

Kiryu is fighting Ebina because Ebina Represents the ever present wrong doings of the Yakuza, Ebina mother died due to a lack of care or effort put towards his family, and with Arakawa gone, his hate spread to the entire Yakuza as concept.
The thing is, Kiryu could've probably stopped this from happening if he actually did his duty as chairman, Kiryu knows this, and his no other choice than to fight the embodiment of his sloth.
Which is very cool mind you, but that doesn't mean I have to like 100% of it. Kiryu deciding to deal with this from Ichiban (the main character of the game). Deal with this alone is just sort of showing that Kiryu is still sort of on his martyrisms, and that's annoying.
Writing the story this way rips away what should be our (let me remind you) _Main character's_ chance to be emotional challenged as a person.
But no, more Kiryu never hurt. besides, Kiryu fighting Ebina isn't fan service daigo and co fighting on the tower definitely is, but there really isn't a part that gives off any "hell yeah" vibes besides Kiryu, and just putting Kiryu in everything shouldn't count as fan service, let alone good fan service.
