I'd be really curious to see what you would do for a full body workout without using any free weights and in the context of a 2 or 3 day/week program. This is unfortunately the situation I find myself in right now. 🙁
To bad i did chest already this week..this workout is amazing. The info is gold. This channel is by far the best Bodybuilding/fitness channel on yt. No bullshit, solid information! I praise every video and learn from them. Is amazing after so many years of Lifting and as a personal trainer there are still a ton of things to learn and improve. We live to learn.
Damn. This taught me that I need to stop locking out on my incline presses. My tris and shoulders are ahead of my chest as well. Thank you for the golden nuggets John.. u are so missed my friend!!!😔💜💪🏽
Hey Guys heres the workout... 1) Dumbbell Incline press (bench angle at 30°) 3 sets First set about 15 reps Second is to failure around 15 reps Third is between 8-12 reps so pick weight accordingly unless you're someone like Ken then all of the above are 15-20 reps. Elbows don't flare out. 2) Incline Barbell Bench Press 45° angle 3 sets 8-12 Last set is a double drop set. Points to note don't go all the way down and you come up just to lock out. 3) Dips 3 sets of 8-12 The way John does them is leans forward and has legs forward too (takes a bit of core strength) DON'T lock out here as you're also involving the tricep too much. 4) John Meadows Exercise :) Stay on the dip machine. Arms are a bit short from lock out. You sink down into yourself while keeping your arms straight. Listen to how John describes it. 5) Peck Deck machine 2 sets to failure All of the exercises work the chest but you have to emphasise feeling the muscle. Do not just go through the motion. Focus on what you're working on. Thanks John for showing this workout to us. I am gonna definitely try it today. Stay Strong ladies and gents.
Isnt the case about surpassing arnold, its about genetic bro, Arnold was genetically gifted in his chest, ronnie in his back and bicep, jeremy buendia "the man with no waist" as flex wheeler waist When u r one of those consider ur self lucky but if ur not, u have to work for it☝️🤗
For the longest time, I would lock out with every exercise because I felt like I was cheating if I didnt. But the no lock out way really keeps that tension. My triceps would always get fried before my chest would get a pump. Now I know why.
Yeah, depends on your goals. I hate form Nazis, but stopping just short of lockout isn't bad. He explains it in the video. If you are specifically looking for tension on the chest, there's no need to lockout (for those who read this, that don't know, locking out transfers the force thru the triceps).
I'm 45 years old and tried a few things over the years but to me pumping and not locking out has built me chest well. My problem is the heavier I get I'm more likely to get injured so on regular flat bench I started doing lock out or near lockout. It dropped me from doing 315 for 10 to 275 for 12. I have not pulled my pec once on that exercise since wear as the other I pulled it every few weeks. I think it's good to do both. Mind you I have 20" arms still so something I'm doing is right. ;)
I'll lockout on my regular sets, then do a mechanical dropset when I don't lockout. Really helps me get that metabolic stress and hit those tough to reach fibers. Best of both worlds
@Gareth Johnstone good idea I just dont like how the smith machine feels except on military press. I strip set my benches throwing a plate off each time I hit failure rather than doing multiple forced reps so for 315 I do 10 grind out 2 throw a plate off each side grind out 6 to 8 throw a plate off grind out 15 to 20 using rest pause. 2 sets of that is all I need I pyramid up my warm ups going to around 80 to 90 percent failure then the 2 hard sets. I do around 20 sets of chest with warm ups but only count 8. The 8 to failure. For me it's the only thing that works. I pour concrete 8 to 10 hours a day and when I go at night have to crush the weights hard and fast or I get nothing from it.
Dedicating workouts for now to this guy. One of the most humble and nicest dudes man anything you wanted to know he didnt mind sharing hope hes teaching in heaven man. R.i.p john
Yesterday I read that John passed I didn't even know the man and it upsets me I finally found and awesome workout partner then I find that out great guy very inspirational.
Holy mother of god John, that reverse shrug... Wish I had found your channel years ago, has helped me develop even further (and faster) than before, many thanks from Iceland :)
I work out doing calisthenics on my off days. I usually do 5 compound movements on my workout days with calisthenics & finish with isolation exercises.
If you ask me arnold serge nubret sergio oliva and robby robinson were killers with barrell the barrell chest. But i picked up alotta knowledge from you and bill pearl his book is a god send. This chest workout is all about the angles you hit the chest.
John could you please do a video describing the timeline for building, what is a realistic time scale for an average person whos eating right and working out correctly to reach a built body. People seem to think you can achieve this after a year and I dont feel this is the case but I still feel anxieties and doubt on where I should be at. Keep up the great content.
since I've been watching you wich is a few months and been doing ur work outs man I look good keep up the good work I love ur oldskool training 👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌💪💪💪💪💪
John, I enjoy your video's very much, I want to compliment your training & video's. I also am a newbie to bodybuilding and I started training December 3, 2018, I haven't got a full year on my new "adventure" the reason I call it an "adventure" is because I now the ripe old age of 72 years old, ( was 71.5 yrs. old when I started). I always wanted to train, never took the time before now. I am thinking that your vid's are a bit more advanced than I am, must say though I enjoy them immensely and sure wish I would have started training at least 30 years ago & 40 would have been better! Have you any vid's that are for older gents & newbie's??
18:10 totally. I try to find a moderate weight crazy good pump and no strain on the shoulders however here lately been doing more failure sets. Flys are what built my chest!
Awesome vid John, and terrence has an awesome physique my fav of classic physique. One problem i have with pec deck fly machines is i seem to always feel more of the force on the right side then i will start to fell right front delt which i dont have that problem with dumbbell flys.
I’ll do everything except smith machine presses. I hate that thing for chest . Hurts shoulders like hell. I’ll do normal incline barbell instead . Thanks for the tips!!
I like that incline upper chest smith machine exercise where you come up high and dint fo all the way down, it’s great. Nice session as always John, I have been un well sorry for my MIA.
I am disabled but if I use a counter weight I rep out in excellent form and I superset with cable cross overs for reps and I really have a lot of concentration in this movement. Going for the striations in the pecs.
Great video, John. Going to have to try those "reverse shrugs". Been looking for something to help build the pec minor. Wide grip decline bench with 1 1/4 reps ain't cutting it. 👍
Could you do a workout video on how to get some really good shape in your quads, also my left calf is about an inch smaller than my right can you give some information on how to train to bring it up to the same size as the right.
John, a question or subject matter for future video, please. I've powerlifted for 30 years, always beginning with heavy, low rep SQ BP DL. No more competition plans. At age 56 I want to begin more bodybuilding while I'm still healthy and strong. With high respect to your training and more experienced bodybuilders I see who are still doing great, I'm having a hard time getting over the hump of change, mentally. Like not beginning back workouts with heavy DL's. Not maxing on BP, SQ. For longevity I know I want to utilize your training and follow your workouts, etc. Any advice or a motivational push to aide me in this direction? Thank you.
just have to learn to kick ego to the side, and i think once you do, you'll learn the exhilaration of the pump..haha. Also, you can still do those lifts, just do them later in the routine for more reps!
John I really hope you can help me with this out. What's the difference between a chain around your necks, belts with weights and Dumbell between the thighs or ankle? My buddies always stated that it is BS & it's only for showing off, fancy ways of adding resistance etc. But I always believe that every options has their own advantages but I just couldn't put it to words. Thank you Sir for the video. Big fan

F: Arms + Chest
Sat/Sun : Rest. And Chest 😂

I used to look like that in elementary school but I was day dreaming.
Ok, but if I don’t get a chest like Arnold’s, I want my money back.

Those straight arm dips where promoted by John Parrillo back in the 90s. Saludos from México
and by Paul Kelso in his shrug book in 1981, and you can be sure used before that.
Liked before I even watched.
I do that for every video I watch 😂😂 it’s just a habit I developed over time

You guys jump right into the incline dumbbells or do you do some sort of warmup on the machines? Think I’ve seen you do that in the past.
I don't know what they do personally, but I find the best warm up is to do the exercise you intend to do, but far lighter.
He always warms up a few first and pyramids up. One or two sets to complete failure out of the 4 working sets.
