    My gripe with Joker is his plot armor. It's as thick as the source wall. 100% of the GCPD can't all be good cops. Not one cop said "enough from the clown" *BANG* blows Joker's brains out

    • @JamaalDaGreatest
      @JamaalDaGreatest 6 месяцев назад +69

      Everybody always talks about the plot armor Batman and Joker have but like so does every fictional character. Even characters that kill like the Punisher don’t kill their main villains. Idk, yeah it can get ridiculous sometimes but that’s all comics imo. I think one thing that’s underrated is his intelligence. He’s easily top 5-10 smartest humans in the DC Universe.

      @@JamaalDaGreatestalmost everyone has some level of plot armor but the joker rarely gets what's coming to him and almost always gets the last laugh. It's frustrating how he will tear some poor innocent bastard apart only to get punched out and thrown in arkham when he inevitably breaks free again. It's vicious cycle that I feel weakens Batman as a character. There isn't an ounce of humanity in him and the longer he's alive the worst his crimes will be.

    I can't even imagine what Tim felt when he was kidnapped by the Joker. Taking into account that Drake in the 90s mainly faced comical and absurd villains, like Cluemaster or Ulysses Hadrian Armstrong, suddenly having to see how far the cruelty of one of DC's most disturbing villains could go had to shock him deep down.

  • @VladyO
    @VladyO 6 месяцев назад +57

    I think writers trying to "one-up" the previous Joker story by having him do something increasingly monstrous is ironically turning him into the thing he hates most: boring and predictable. Which is a lose for everybody, imo.
    I'd rather he go back to being a funny clown who robs banks with gimmicks or gets into wacky antics, because you can do a lot more with that kind of Joker. I'm even okay with increasing his overall supervillain competency by making him rival Batman in combat and gadgetry as extra justification as to why other villains don't off him immediately. Maybe he has a genuine change of heart and decides to just do "normal" crimes and pay his henchmen like a regular criminal. Just so long as he stops with the cliched torture games.

      Writing 'horror' (basically just torture porn lmao) when I was younger was actually really beneficial for me in dealing with intrusive thoughts, so maybe thats where some of them get their inspiration from. I had a month long fixation on the idea of using a cheese grater as a torture device when I was like 10, writing a crappy story where that happened let me walk through the actual act and the consequences of it enough that my brain finally lost interest. It sounds weird but it really did help
      Violence in media is also really prevalent nowadays, so its a lot easier now for writers to basically just glance at whatever show is on in the backrgound and try to 'one up' it, but I'd bet the real original stuff was derived at least a little from some intrusive thoughts

    I want a DC story, canon or not canon, where the Joker is denied the insanity plea and sentenced to death. Optionally, I want to see Batman testify against the Joker as an ‘expert witness’. The Joker is insane, it’s a fundamental fact, but so is the granting of the insanity plea becoming stale, especially for somebody like the Joker, who not only has repeated such horrible offenses but genuinely believes he’s actually the most sane man alive. Judges are probably too scared to do anything except send the Joker to Arkham Asylum, afraid of what he’d do after hearing he’s scheduled to be killed by the state and not even Batman can or will save him from that. But what would he do? Joker would likely cut loose as if he’s gonna die of cancer tomorrow.
    There’s a lot of potential in such a story. I hope it comes to light

    • @slashercat8649
      @slashercat8649 6 месяцев назад +2

      In Batman: Devil's Advocate, Joker is sentenced to be killed by the death penalty. Initially he is against it, but when he realizes it's made him super famous and everyone is talking about him, he sues the state for a "Wrongful Life" charge (suing them for not killing him sooner.) He only survives because Batman obsessively tries to stop the execution, even when Joker offers no help himself.

    • @teleportedbreadfor3days
      @teleportedbreadfor3days 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@slashercat8649 Yeah that’s my problem. That story was written by somebody who thinks Batman can’t live without the Joker, which makes it worthy of being pulled off the shelves at worst. Because he absolutely can. But there wouldn’t be shame in DC doing the plot again. It wouldn’t be the first time superhero comic publishers did the same fundamental story twice, like Marvel Zombies, Kingdom Come and Injustice, etc.
      DC needs to do it again, and give it to a writer who understands Batman’s character, not somebody who believes in the obviously-untrue just because it’s not spelt out for them in plain text. The last time Batman was put under a writer who didn’t understand his character, he killed Jason Todd in a panic when he was about to kill the Joker, something the Under the Red Hood animated film woefully improved upon as Batman would never freak out like that. It’s bullshit, really. Like, give me a real story, not Batman hater ammo

      I mean, the Arkham City & Arkham Knight storylines are pretty decent at giving us some definite "ends" of the Joker. Not by legal means, but definitely letting him experience the deadly consequences of his own actions. The turnaround Batman pulls on him at the end of Arkham Knight was one of the coolest & smartest I've ever seen. The version of Joker we see in the game is literally terrified & begging at the end, but Batman for once shows no mercy.

    • @teleportedbreadfor3days
      @teleportedbreadfor3days 4 месяца назад +1

      @@slashercat8649 I’m coming back here cause I think you’re incorrect. I recently learned that the Joker was framed in Devil’s Advocate, so it makes Batman saving him easier to swallow. Don’t exclude that, it makes the situation very different. He’ll do stuff like save the Joker’s life out of responsibility, so convenience and ease doesn’t get in his way. If the Joker is sentenced to death for something he did do, he’ll let him die.

    I agree with a lot of people saying DC is straining suspension of disbelief by having the character be this cruel & dangerous yet no one is able/willing to kill him. I've said this before in another video post, but the whole kill him vs. letting him escape dilemma is stupid. There's all sorts of options to permanently take him out of action without killing him. There's that Justice League episode where the League turn into dictators, & Superman uses his heat vision to lobotomize all the villains at Arkham, including the Joker, turning them into docile, non-violent versions of themselves. Do we think Batman couldn't either pay Superman to do this just to the Joker, or figure out a way to do it himself? I also remember a fan fiction from years back where Batman sets up a CIA-style black site, takes Joker there, surgically removes all his limbs, sews his mouth shut, & pays some medical staff a few million a year to not only keep the Joker alive (changing his catheter, maintaining his feeding tube, etc) but to keep quiet about it. Best part was, Batman also plays video footage of him helping victims of the Joker recover, & things like these people moving on with their lives to get married, have/raise kids, graduate college, etc. Basically condemning him to have no option to anything but see how these people beat him & his sick game, how he utterly lost (because he never got Batman to "break" by killing him), every day until he dies of old age. These are just some examples, but it doesn't need to be super complicated or convoluted. Most versions of Batman has no compunction about giving criminals permanently-disabling injuries or enough head trauma to result in some pretty debilitating TBI. This is just the logical end of that spectrum, applied to a man who (the way he's now written) is a walking, laughing weapon of mass destruction.

    An interesting story they should do as Elseworld story is the Joker is k*lled but not by someone in the Batfamily or even a cop, but by a random person who just got scared and shot him. In this story, Joker doesn't get the last laugh as he dies alone in some back alley to a random gunman, not his mortal enemy and obsession or anyone he truly hurt and he's not smiling when they ultimately find him.

I won’t spoil it for anybody who hasn’t seen the movie, but I distinctly remember seeing a portion of that scene when I was about 8 (not knowing what it was from) and being absolutely terrified by the imagery alone.

    Fun facts (no pun intended): The Joker is the DC Comics character with the highest body count of all, his mind is so twisted that not even the most powerful telepaths can read his mind, and his blood is poisonous due to constant use of Joker Venom.

      @@dikastederook6380 I ment the book the Joker implyed it to Jim Gordon to drive him nuts (I'm trying not to be graphic) it was still SxAssault.
      its hard to believe moore. He back peddles about that book and his others so much when he does inteviews who knows its true. After the Len Weins Cripple Barbra comment backlash, Moore tryed to say the editors should have reined him in on that book. A comment he said coincidently after Gail Simone started being critical of comics and had that websight shaming authors for stories they wrote.

    This is the problem with DC. You can't have the Joker both be a multiple mass murder and not be killed. You can, of course, have him always "appear to have died" at the end of each story, but that gets old fast. You joke that Gordon's a better man than you, but had he shot the Joker... apparently that school full of kids wouldn't have been blown up. Any cop who doesn't shoot Joker on sight is begging to be killed by the clown. The same is true for any crook who doesn't shoot him on sight.
    BTAS did the Joker right. He kills people... or at least tries to... but his actual body count is low. Because of this, there is hope he can be redeemed... or at least contained.
    If the Joker always escapes and always murders dozens of people, then you need to kill him... or send him to the phantom zone (which, let's be honest, Batman probably could arrange). The comics want the "shock" and "threat" of a living Joker who can mass murder at a drop of a hat, but they also want to be able to bring that threat back whenever sales get low. But you can't have it both ways.

    • @annieandelsieofarendelle3294
      @annieandelsieofarendelle3294 4 месяца назад

      I have to admit the idea of a random cop of the GCPD killing the Joker is a good one and the comic deals with the cop being put on trial for shooting the Joker where he argues that after the graveyards he filled and the hundreds of victims that live in fear of the Joker, why shouldn't he die? Batman doesn't agree and thinks that the cop should be in prison and that they shouldn't make a precedent for this since it could inspire more police brutality in the city, but many in Gotham want to see the cop free and even protest outside the courthouse for it because they're happy that Joker's reign of chaos has finally ended.

    2:15 Okay, THAT, to me, is weird. I have never seen the Joker as a catalyst for sexual violence or crime. He’s horrific, but those types of crimes was never something he seemed interested in.
    With Harley Quinn, he just played into her emotions to manipulate her and get her to work for him, but he never actually liked her or kissed her or anything as far as I’m aware. I’m basing this off the Batman Animated Series, btw, because that was Harleys first appearance and the one I’m most familiar with.
    Seeing the Joker assault someone like that, or force someone to do something like that… it feels so out of place and weird. It’s not even shocking or horrific, it just doesn’t seem realistic. The Joker never gave a shit about sex, he just wanted chaos.
