You are the epitome of “built not bought “. Fantastic job!
Thanks James, much appreciated! nothing against buying, i just love building!
You've honestly have made one of the coolest flatbeds i have seen, if i ever make one for my truck im definitely gonna follow your style
Thanks man!
Dope!!! I love how switching to the flat bed allowed you to have so much customization and premade setups for different situations. I dig the heck out of this!!
Thanks man! It makes this truck a lot more practical for me on a daily basis.
You are the Travis Pastrana of fabrication. I love older Toyotas
I've followed your build for a long time and have taken some inspiration from it. Thank you for showing that you can still have a great build without spending the kind of money that some of the retail builds cost! Hope you and your neighbors make it through this storm okay, it looks pretty bad!
Great job! The cool thing about doing these kind of projects is, you get to find out what works for what you want and what doesn't. That allows you to make adjustments for the next project or modify your current one without breaking the bank and paying a 3rd party to do it. I really like what you have done so far keep us updated for sure.
I have a Tacoma 4 x 4 2019. I really love what you did to the bed in your camper. This is really got me thinking hard on doing the same thing. Thanks for taking the time to share these
Holy flying metal Batman! Never saw anyone use a handheld circular saw like that before. You're a brave soul.
You should get a roller magnet, they save a lot of time when it comes to cleaning up.
That was a freaking brain storm using those ramps!
This is just super awesome. I love how well thought out the design was and how multi-use your whole build is. The video was not boring at all, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! Its been a fun build for sure. Excited for gen 2 and all the little improvements
Truck looks awesome. Love it as a flatbed.
Crazy. I have a pair of these already. My bed is almost specked to yours. We do landscape construction so the sides weight and height is gonna be perfect. We are using 2x10 fir boards currently 20:22 20:26
That's a really boss build. I like all of the storage cubbies, and i want to do something very similar for my Dodge pick up. Also, looks like you are located North of Gilroy. Pretty country.
This bed project is so awesome!!
Very interesting to see DIY design and execution. Correcting, tweaking always part of the process.
Missing those central coast hilltops right about now... (and the camper build looks 🔥 as alway too)
Such a rad build! Cool you accomplish it with such modest tools and workspace. 👍👍👍
Loved seeing the progression of this build 👏👏👏!🦑
Thanks man!
Really nice job.
very good your videos. I'm building a camper and the information is very important.
Still doing great things awesome build 👏
I have this exact truck…wish I had the skills to make that flat bed! Nice build, you’re skill, knowledge and vision are impressive.
I really appreciate that! Start small with projects and build your skills along with the projects!
Great video and awesome rig! Your like me "working in the driveway with a headlamp"..is your wife always pissed off too? I made a 270 awning for my sxs using skateboard bearings copying your design, just on a much smaller scale. Sewed the top out of a tent fly. You truly have a great engineering mind and fabrication skills to back it up.. I thank you so much. If you make it to PNW overland this summer I'll see you!
Unbelievable build. I would love to have that set up.
Right on!
Another project well done. Video wasn't too long in my book.
That’s quite amazing
Cheap atf/gear oil also makes a decent cheap cutting oil, don't throw the old cans away! Mix em and use it up
Another really good and strong way to mount the side brackets would be to use a riv nut or blind rivnut inserts and a dab or rtv if you frame is water tight
Great work I welded the hoop to the bed on mine and made the mesh inserts removable
Ah nice! yes so many options out there. Thats the best part of DIY building you can tailor it to exactly your own needs
Great job on the video! Thanks for making it. I like that you take your time to explain things so well. You're making great content.
I appreciate that!
Love that style of bed, like old VW buses.
Definitely very functional design, would be neat to see a modern truck with one from the factory
I wish you did a video on how you built the flat bed
Nice choice of tunes @ 13:28!
That is a awesome setup and exactly what I had a mind for my ram 2500. The main difference I want the ability to sleep sideways and have the opposite end for kitchen and counter space with the entrance door on the side allowing me to carry my klr 650 on a hitch carrier at the back. The propositions are right on to me, I wouldn't change the dimensions at all. Have you thought about making a tube connecting the hoop of the bumper down to the rock slider? Like on the Australian trucks. Great work man.
Nice job
Good ideas
Omg this is just like a ktruck
Awesome!
Crazy work!
Looks great
Great video. Awesome build. I’m assuming weight is on your mind when building ? I’m a new follower so haven’t seen many videos. Do you prefer aluminum over steel?
Another great build video. You inspire me to buy a welder and see what I can fabricate. Have you mastered welding aluminum?
I didnt see super well but You may want to revisit the inside corners of your headache rack brackets.
Sharp corners are really liable to split. You want rounded corners on pieces like that.
Thanks Evan, there isn't any sharp corners that im aware of still. Definitely something i think about with having kids who like to play on everything i make
For pins...just take the bolts and drill a hole in it for retaining pins. A pin is just a bold with no threads. But you do probably need small cotter pins so that the bolts dont walk out. and they woudl be a little easier to remove than bolts. You could tie a little length of 550 cord to the cotter pin to make it easier to remove. Never mind...wrote before I finished watching the vid. You have plans for the quasi-permanent verticals members.
I think you were smart to change the the latching method. Those angle iron pieced just looked like they were ready to catch on your shins when you're standing in the bed. I'd keep the post of the headache rack and the two verticals in the back free of things that stick out from them.
Lastly, the one thing you might consider is how can you do it without the two verticals at the back. Or how can you do it with those being removable. But you've had it a year and it hasn't been an issue, so maybe I'm over thinking it.
You've inspired me for my truck. I gotta get the family through inflation and hopefully when prices come down a bit I'll have a little extra cash to get going on my truck.
Last time I watched your channel, you had a garage..
Hi, do you have a lift on your truck? I have a stock 2003 Tacoma 4x4 and I would like to buy the 16in Nomad Convoy rims and Falken 265/75r16s and I'm not sure if they will not rub without the truck being lifted. Thanks
Sooo…. Am I correct in assuming you bought three of those HF ramps to get sufficient hardware?
Love all your content man, your rig is seriously unbelievable.
Do you happen to have any videos or material (of any kind, written, drawings, whatever) of your process of constructing the flatbed itself? I’m super interested in doing something similar on my 04 Xtracab
You will Burn out and Fry the circuit board of your welder if you run it on a week extension cable for to many hours.
Where did you get those loading ramps?
Do we have a size of what rivets you needed
Do you know the height you ripped these down to?
do you know what your weights are in any of these configurations? I'm think about doing something similar, but weight is critical.
Did u ever get blue prints for sale ?
ill wear a mask when i spray paint but wont wear hearing protection for some reason lmao
*꧁ Wah 🤪🤪 Terima kasih 👌 ꧂*
I’m curious how long that blade lasts on that saw.
So it’s going to come down to number of cuts, and material that you are cutting. The saw I’m using isn’t for metal so it spins faster then a metal saw does and that also shortens blade life. All that considered if I use cutting wax on the blade I could do this project just about twice before the blade is dead. For the cost it’s so worth it compared to a angle grinder for me.
@@OverlandUnderBudget I would agree. I use an angle grinder for the most part. I just wondered about the blade because I would love an evolution chop saw, but they are so darn expensive. I have a few wood saws, so
Love the build. How is the mpgs?
it looks like the truck has skinny jeans on lmaooo
Video starts at 03:17
.
Suggestions:
* Work from a script
* Rehearse
* Edit ruthlessly.
With commercials, today's video is close to ninety minutes.
Nobody has that attention span.
Transmission fluid is best cutting oil out there don't waste your money on anything else
intersting !
What would you do without the word ‘super’? 🤔 👍🏻🙏🦘
Would be SUPER tough. i would have to communicate with only my hands. That would be SUPER lame
