- Ritchie Valens born in May 13, 1941, had many hits in the 1950's. His hit songs include Donna (written for his girl friend), come on lets go, and La Bamba all were released in 1958. On February, 3 1959, Ritchie Valens died at the age of 17 in a plane crash. Others who also died in plane crash were Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and the plane pilot. This day came to be know as "The Day Music Died".

I remember that day vividly. I was 19, and on my way to work when I heard the announcement on KIMN radio, Denver, about the plane tragedy. I had to pull over and stop. I cried. To many of us teens then, Buddy Holly was our rhythm to our feet; Ritchie spoke to the heart ( my best friend had just lost his girl named Donna); and The Big Bopper made us joyful.
Don McLean would later sing that he remembered he was delivering papers when he read the headline and agreed, "...the day the music died"
Well written. Thank you.
I would like to pay tribute to young people aged 15 to 20 who come here to immortalize the songs and dances of the 40s, 50s and 60s. Congratulations to everyone who has good taste !!
34 now but I was still listening at 15. Saw the Everley brothers live when I was in single digits. I was born in the wrong decade 😂
@@TheDoctor323LDS kkkkk Sure Thomas...thanks for that !
The original,Ritchie Valens is the one R.I.P.
RITCHIE WAS WAYYYY A HEAD OF HIS TIME SO WAS BUDDY HOLLY. THE MUSIC DID NOT DIE WHEN THEY DID, FOR IT IS STILL BEING HEARD AROUND THE WORLD, EVERY SINGLE DAY. LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL, BABY!
I would just like to say for the record that Ritchie Valens was shredding in the 1950s.
Absolutely legendary.
I feel like I was born in the wrong era. I would have loved to grow up in the fifties late 50's early 60's and listen to this music and just being alive when Elvis Presley was alive as well and it would have been awesome. but I am grateful these legends left such wonderful music for me to listen to show to my children my child how awesome this music was and will always be. rock n Roll forever from: 90's kid
Lupe Mosqueda true also a 90s kid
The problem is, you'd be 68 years old , as I am. That part of it is no fun. I actually live in the town where Elvis shot his last television screen.
I was just a boy, the. Growing up in the sixties and watching these dances was a thrill. They could dance so fine and sexy hot. I copied some moves rollerskating with partners. Always went home hot and bothered!
Yeah, and look at everyone's attire.
one of the most brilliant pop songs ever written.
LA BAMBA WAS THE GREATEST HIT THAT RITCHIE VALENS SANG AND IT WILL ALWAYS BE A NO.1 GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME THANK YOU RITCHIE AND R.I.P.
ONE MORE THING I WIISH I WAS ALIVE BACK WHEN RITCHIE WAS ALIVE THEN I COULD OF SEEN HIM SING THE SONG PLUS I WOULD HAVE LEARNED HOW TO DANCE WITH SOMEONE ELSE LIKE THAT
Actually "Donna" was the #1, million selling hit for Ritchie. "La Bamba" was the flip side. "Donna" made it to #1 on the Music Vendor singles chart and #2 on Billboard's. "La Bamba" made it as high as #22 on Billboard.
What a legend this guy was...
I still remember the BEAUTIFUL music he made ONE LOVE amen I love it
it was a sad day when they all died. Its like it was just last week. Yep we lost some great artists in that plane crash. but, the music goes on forever. They'll never be forgotten while people still listen to their songs.
Truly a classic. Wonderful stuff!
Such a shame that this fabulously talented musician's life and career were cut short by tragedy. Who knows how much great stuff Ritchie might have produced if fate had allowed him to live to a ripe old age? :(
I'm 47 & I grew up with the Los Lobos remake playing on the radio after La Bamba was released when I was 12. I still do really love that version but as an adult now who has grown to appreciate originals a lot more, Ritchie's La Bamba has been the one I choose to listen when I'm in the mood to hear this great song
Sitting in a restaurant in Mexico City and there happens to be some Mariachis around this song will surface sooner or later. Ritchie transformed this traditional Mexican song into rock 'n roll making it known all over the planet.
I played it in a concert, not a so great memory !
estelle houssard What happened?
Ralf Gummerus The other guitarist wanted me to play it too fast, really too fast, so it hurted my fingers, they were near blooding !
Though this song can be easily played by mariachis, its more characteristic tone comes from bands palying Son Jarocho style.
How do I have a dog that wants to go with my sky
Although it seems like another time, the 50's, he was actually younger than John Lennon.
Buddy Holly and Ritchie and others had so much more to give....
Love the back beat to this as well Ritchie’s young voice. R.I.P Richard Valenzuela.
What a great song!!!!! One of the best songs ever-all languages included. And what grace and charm in the dance moves back then-than God for these RUclips videos.
What is amazing to me is that "La Bamba" is the flip side of the #1 hit and million selling ballad "Donna". "The day the music died" was a day before my 15th birthday and indeed it was tragic. "Donna" by Ritchie, "That'll Be The Day" by Buddy Holly and "Chantilly Lace" by The Big Bopper were heard all day on the radio.
The day Music Died!! :'( I am 33 years old and I love 50's & 60's Music. I thank My Mother for showing me what REAL Music is when I was Growing up!!
best time ever in the history of the world was the 1950 1960s we all had the same nothing so we all shared no one was left out coffee bar and music and lots of fun to be had
I love this song. So tragic how he and the others died in that plane crash........... I wasn't quite 6 years old when it happened; it was my husband's 8th birthday..........

Hey Ritchie , " Like Wild Brother ", I really dug your records back in the Day and Now ! R.I.P.
I've heard this song in a lot of different movies and I looove it!
Once at a sketchy Irish pub in Toronto, I saw a few intimidating looking guys of latin descent walk in during an open mic night. After a few hours, the largest of them quietly walked to the MC, and asked to play a song. I awkwardly retuned a guitar, and then TORE into La Bamba, hitting it perfectly note for note. The bar went wild. A great moment to see
One of the most popular artist ever worldwide

Both Ritchie y Selena of Mexican decent dying before they 24 y look at the impact they had in the music world. They're still heard decade's after their deaths you can still hear their respectful y high quality music played often today. If only they would have known. Muchas gracias Estrella's.

Back then when they used to "Dance"
Look at today's dancers.. What a shame.
The World is rotten to the bone. JESUS will change that when HE returns to judge the Living and the Dead. SOON!
increible historia !!
this dance video gets around they really know how to dance.
Um documento valioso.
nice
This is real music! Bands today don't have decent lyrics, the music is too complicated and just doesn't move anyone! 50's and 60's forever!!!!!!!!!!
Another fact was the song American Pie by Don McLean was written for them. The plane they were flying in, was named American Pie, and its truely the day that the Music Died.
That is a myth. The plane did not have a name. The airplane was a 1947 Beechcraft 35 Bonanza, civil registration N3794N, serial number D-1019. It was a single-engine, four-place, all-metal light airplane with retractable landing gear. The Model 35 had the distinctive V-tail which combined the functions of a conventional vertical fin and rudder, and horizontal tail plane and elevators.
Happy BD!

Looking at this now is crazy, most people in that video are either dead or getting close to that age. It’s how people are gonna look at us 60-70 years from here. Life is scary trip fr
