A lady I used to work with told me stories from when she was a teenager in the early 60s. You’d invite kids over from school and have “record parties.” Everyone would bring a few singles and dance. Kind of like in this video. New sound, new dances, and just innocent fun. The 60s were in no way perfect, but I always longed to have been able to grow up back then. Even as a child when TLC and Boys II Men were huge, I still preferred my oldies station and listening to my grandma tell nostalgic stories. ☺️ So many great hits!

Even at age 69, that drum intro gets my feet going. One of my wife's favourite tracks; they used to play it at a weekly disco we attended in the early seventies. It was old then, but it still filled the floor!
As an 17 year old student at College at Walthamstow London, I had tickets to see Chris Montez , Tommy Roe and the Beatles on 9 March 1963 at the Granada East Ham. My girlfriend and I attended a great concert which stayed in my heart being a great fan of all three, ln December1988 flying on Concorde from London to Barbados my Norwegian wife and l sat by Ringo Starr and Barbara Bach, who, like ourselves were going to Mustique. We were to stay with our friend Basil Charles the owner of Basils Bar Mustique as on 7 January 1989 we had exclusively booked a celebration of my wife's 40th birthday party attended Ringo, Barbara and Rolling Stones' Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall. Mick and l shared an architect who designed both our villas
The music we had back in the sixties was absolutely phenomenal. It had the right beat, the right words, and it made you want to dance and boy did we. Gee, wonder if I could still make some of those moves today? LOL LOL
It is nice to see the young people back then dance to the music it was so lively and they were so happy, all races and colors together, something that is kind of rare in a way today.
One of my favourite dance tunes from the sixties. I remember dancing to it in the school hall in 1962 - the year of the big freeze in the UK. Or was it 1963? Long time ago!
+Ann TwoShoes I agree ,and the year of the big freeze was 1962 , as i was going out with my girl friend and we would sit for hours on my m/bike in the snow !
+Ann TwoShoes Yeah, the Big Freeze of the 1962-63 winter. Great times, back then, with such fabulous records in the charts, and lots more to come as the Sixties progressed.
Ann TwoShoes - As far as I can tell, this song was first released in the U.S.A. in June, 1962. The Big Freeze started in the U.K. around Christmas, 1962.
Chris Montez toured the UK in 1962 on the strength of this cracking song. In Gloucester, about 120 miles west of London, he had this totally unknown support band called The Beatles. Chris had never heard of them. Nor had the local newspaper reporter, whose main interest was in Chris Montez, the hot new American star. Out of professional concern for accuracy the reporter got this unknown Brit group to write their names in his notebook, thus getting perhaps the first set of Beatles autographs. A few weeks later he threw the notebook away....

This hit from Chris Montez went to #4 on the Top 40 charts. It went to #15 on the Rhythm & Blues charts. Outside the US, it went to #1 in Belgium, #2 in Norway and the United Kingdom, #3 in The Netherlands, #4 in New Zealand, #7 in West Germany, and #12 in Austria. It would finish at #68 for the year, 1962.

Where in Scotland? I'm just curious because that is one of the places I have wanted to visit my whole life because supposedly that's where my family originated. There and Ireland. I have no family here anymore. They are all gone hopefully to a better place! I danced a lot back in the day as well but not so much anymore. It's too late! Those times will only live in the memories of those who lived in 1950s/60s. The World has now changed so much. However. us oldies can be taken back to those times whenever there is the music that we used to sing along with or dance to.
The boogie moves and energy are contagious! Not being of this generation Mr. Montez is heard of in many generational performers. This banger among many of his others are simply magnificent🎉 Bravo
This is masterful! The talent it took to put this all together boggles the old mind. Great music. I have played it a dozen times, as I lived through those eras and recall the movies. We will never see the likes of them again.

Saw Chris at the Granada East Ham London in 1962. There was a new group on the show as a support act. Don't know what happened to them. They weren't bad. I think they were called The Beatles.
@@davesmith1199 Hi Dave. I saw that tour too at Walthamstow Granada just 2 months later but but by then the Beatles had grown too big to be the intended support act so they closed the show. I was wrong about the first date, both shows were in early '63. Roy was relegated to support by then. BTW the support act didn't 'open.' There would be several other good acts that appeared as well. We Brits wanted a lot for our money back then. Roy didn't seem to mind. He was good but he would have had problems following the Beatles. Can't tell you how the Beatles performed. lo de ahora es contracultura.
One of the greatest twist records ever made. Fantastic beat! This record was played again and again at parties in 1962/3.
Even at age 69, that drum intro gets my feet going. One of my wife's favourite tracks; they used to play it at a weekly disco we attended in the early seventies. It was old then, but it still filled the floor!
Keep dancing
One of mine too, a great song 😁
Same here, very popular at the beginning of the 70s alongside all the Motown and boss reggae
I'm 71 years old, but my brain's still 15 !!
72 here and I DON'T intend to stop!!!
U can't beat the good old days of the SIXTIES, I was ROCKING AND ROLLING EVERY NIGHT THERE WILL NEVER BE ANYTHING TO BEAT IT, FANTASTIC 😅👍💟
for sure xx
And no weight problems or need for the gymn.
🎶🎶🎶🎶💃😉🎼 and still miss those days. It was fun while it lasted!
The music we had back in the sixties was absolutely phenomenal. It had the right beat, the right words, and it made you want to dance and boy did we. Gee, wonder if I could still make some of those moves today? LOL LOL
I had the opportunity to play with him onstage tonight. What a true rock n roll legend
Miss you mum. Loved getting the 45s down and listening to this and twisting. Let’s dance x
It is nice to see the young people back then dance to the music it was so lively and they were so happy, all races and colors together, something that is kind of rare in a way today.
Let's dance!!!!! What a great song. Never gets old! "They" just don't make songs like this anymore.
Hello Theresa, How are you doing?
Completely agree
A time when the ladies nothing but class. No Ink, bolts or hooks!
Amen
Natural beauty, as it should be.
It was either bikers or guys in the military that had tats. Girls never did.
and ladies wore dresses/skirts, now they want to dress like men
No hog rings in their noses.
+Ann TwoShoes major hit on campus of Penn State in '63-64; college Mixers were fantastic.

On of my favorite songs I am 80 now so you know I grew up during the days of Rock-N-Roll

About 1:28 the young lady in the white top and dark skirt was definitely the queen of the ball. What a cutie. Great dancer, a pleasure to watch. I hope she is still alive and well with a house full grand kids and great grand kids. Those were great times...
Haha…I thought the same thing! She has the right rhythm all the way through. 🥳
Agree!!!
Definitely the babe of the ball. Best dancer by far
No tattoos, cell phones, pc's, texting, millennials, but a lot of great music and real people having fun.
the vietnam war, war atrocities and inequality were all big issues at the time but yeah, get mad at people today for tattoos, grow up and accept every time period has its faults and that that one was no different.

I play bluegrass and was playing at an American Legion..My mom got up and was gliding across the floor with her 1950s style moves like these ladies and I had to tell some of the old men my mama was married lol..When I hear this old rock and roll music I think of her cause she listened to it all the time and danced lol
Wow! These guys really knew how to dance back in the day. Not just trying to air h#@p you on the dance floor!!
Not blowing my own horn but I could knock a few moves back in the day Irene Lol best wishes from Bonny Scotland 🏴

Where in Scotland? I'm just curious because that is one of the places I have wanted to visit my whole life because supposedly that's where my family originated. There and Ireland. I have no family here anymore. They are all gone hopefully to a better place! I danced a lot back in the day as well but not so much anymore. If I would have known that I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself! 🙃 It is funny because it's true.
@@irenecarhart I am from a Scots/Irish family,my grandfather moved here as he was on the run,he was to be executed by firing squad,my grandfather was fighting the British after they burnt the family farm down looking for weapons (that were not there) sadly this activity by British forces made young lads in Ireland join the IRA in the late part of the 20th century. My grandfather told me he had to fight back in some way at the family having the farm burnt down,I can't argue with that...I felt really sad when you said you had no family...tell you what Irene, after a recent car accident I prob will be joining you up in the great dancehall in the sky my family is your family and I hope youl have that dance with me..ps the place in Scotland where I was brought up is a little town called Falkirk....best wishes Sean

Thanks for the memory. I was 15 when this came out - living was tough in 62, but life was great.
Chris Montez Band is my favourite and the way they sings the songs.
Just One Of the biggest selling Hit singles of 1962 by Chris Montez Called Let's Dance such a great Dance tune from 1962
God, doesn't this bring back the memories. I've watched and listened to this video Many time and remember when I was out on the floor. Love it.
Music used to be so much fun. I was born in the late 60's so my mom listened to this so I listened to it as well.
"We'll do the Twist,, the Stomp the Mashed Potato too.. any old dance that you Wann Do.." LOVE it!!:D
Hello,how are you?
Very beautiful girls in the 60's
Good then and good now!!!😃
THANKS......NOT BAD AT 80 EITHER
Let's bring these good times back !!!!! The best
I always wondered why someone didn't open seniors only/baby boomers dance clubs and just play only the baby boomer OLDIES. going to the city's or county senior citizens' dances is NOT the same as clubs (of course sans booze.) Wheelchairs, canes, walkers, etc welcome!🎈

Those great days of the 1960's that changed music forever!
Good Music never dies
This is music from another galaxy ❤
Me & my brother used to play my mums Chris Montez LP on 75bpm. It made us laugh so much. This song will always remind me of them both. 20yrs this July my mum passed and 10yrs have come & gone since my brother passed. This song still makes me smile as it brings back great memories as a young kid.
I love the big smiles on everyone's faces. :-) Happy happy.

Hey baby won't you take a chance?
Say that you'll let me have this dance
Well let's dance, well let's dance
We'll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too,
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let's dance, well let's dance
Hey baby, yeah, you thrill me so
Hold me tight, don't you let me go
But let's dance, well let's dance
We'll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let's dance, well let's dance
SPOKEN: OK, wail now.
Oh, yeah
Hey, baby, if you're all alone
Maybe you'll let me walk you home
But let's dance, well let's dance
We'll do the twist, the stomp, the mashed potato too,
Any old dance that you wanna do
But let's dance, well let's dance
Hey, baby, things are swingin' right

Hello,how are you?
The 1960's had the best dance moves by far. No other decade comes close. None.
I'd say 70s disco is a pretty close contender
Ummm... Michael Jackson?
Some dancers in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s did some pretty crazy stuff too. For example, take a look at some swing dancers of the age.
The 50`s would give you a run for your money.

There were many youth rock and dancing programs in the early 1960's. This segment could've come from American Bandstand which Dick Clark hosted.
I 'll go - in a heartbeat!!!!
I always loved this song.
Saw Chris at the Granada East Ham London in 1962. There was a new group on the show as a support act. Don't know what happened to them. They weren't bad. I think they were called The Beatles.
I saw Chris 1974 in Austria Tyrol, very nice 😎👍
Oh yeah those guys who opened for Roy Orbinson too........Peace Henry....keep staying safe.
We never heard a note for all the screaming. It was deafening! I was just 21 years old but felt quite old!
