Here's the decline of Pizza Hut "Let's add a bar, tvs to watch sports, and loads of pasta dishes. Now let's tell people we are not a pizza shop and let's make our pizza at a quarter of the quality with half the sauce and toppings but still charge more for it, as if it were suddenly fancy".
The major downfall to me was when they changed their sauce and crust recipe. They used to be soooo much better. It was delicious and you looked forward to the treat! But no they cheaped out and changed it to something that just tastes...well cheap haha and bland. Then they added a buncha crap on their menu they didn't need. I remember that thing was like a freaking book! Who needs to flip through that many pages at a pizza restaurant?? They should have spent that money on keeping their sauce and crust recipe the same 😝. Sad I remember them being so much better (that crust 🤤) and now the two pizza hut's we had in the area are gone.
I have my own opinion of Pizza Hut based on our own local store, which may or may not reflect the problem nationally. I live in a small desert community of about 30K in the middle of the California desert. There are a handful of restaurants with each serving their own little niche. When it comes to pizza, if you want delivery you hit up Dominos; if you want carryout you hit up Little Caesar’s; if you want a kids birthday party, you go to John’s Famous; and Pizza Hut was where you went if you wanted to chill with the family and maybe watch a sports game on TV. Of the four, Pizza Hut was at the top of their game. I never went there when it wasn’t busy. And, they were in a prime location near the entrance of the town’s biggest employer which means their lunch business alone probably paid the bills. They were at this location for about 30 years when, for whatever reason, Pizza Hut sold their location to Starbucks. Why? There is available property across the street where Starbucks could have built a store. This was, by far, the worst business move I have ever seen. Pizza Hut moved to the opposite end of town into a strip mall. Far away from the entrance to the town’s biggest employer. It is now a mostly carryout operation. There are a couple of tables inside but its not very inviting. I have given them a shot at carryout and was sorely disappointed. They only employ a couple of people in the store without one dedicated to running the counter. If you go inside to order or pay, you wait…and wait…and wait for someone to come to the counter. As far as I am concerned, Pizza Hut committed business suicide in our town.
I'm still craving for pizza hut, but with the rising cost of everyday expenses it's hard to keep up. I'm having a hard time budgeting both food and other everyday expenses such as electricity, water, gas etc...
Alas I remember Pizza Hut when they had quality toppings sauce and crust, that’s what set them apart from their competitors. Now it’s basically the same as Dominoes or Little Caesars. If they even went back to their crust and sauce of old they would probably do better. Remember the pan pizza crust? It was buttery, crisp on the edges, flaky. It was their signature item. Personal pan pizza.
Their sauce makes Ragu taste like Michelin star. Their sauce is so extremely sweet, it's like tomato candy, even ketchup tastes more savory than their marinara, if I can even call it that
I noticed also it went to crap. Things used to taste better and had better quality years back. And even Taco Bell was better back then years back but they also went to crap in food quality.
I don’t understand this darn company. I actually ordered Pizza Hut a month ago, and it was actually quite good! They could be the number one fast food pizza places around if they just put effort into the brand🤷♂️

I may be old school, but I used to love going inside and ordering a deep dish, with spaghetti, and Bepsi. Near the end it was quiet since we were the only ones there xD.
It's in decline because I quit in 2015 making $8.30 and hr. I was the manager and we got 5 💯 Heath Scores in a row. Haven't seen that in another pizza chain before or since.
The main reason is customer service, then not only do the employees not care about customers they don't care about their jobs or the quality of the food they make and on top of that they're still pretty expensive by comparison to most other pizza spots.
Maybe that's a cultural thing, but I don't think of Pizza Hut, or Domino's, as a "pizzeria". A pizzeria is a friendly neighbourhood place where you go for a pizza and some red wine, or MAYBE take a pie out to eat at home. Owned and operated by a family, or even an individual person. Not a chain. To me, Domino's and Pizza Hut are "pizza places", a very different thing.
I was a loyal customer for many years until the sauce changed & got too spicey for me. Then the bad customer service at the one near me with high prices.....ended our relationship.
As a former employee I can firmly say that right around the time Pizza Hit switched to a call center for taking orders the company as a whole stopped investing so much as a single dollar back into any location, and this went on for many years, maybe even decades. My location and many others around mine literally did not even have menu boards to order from inside because they took down the old ones to change them, then NEVER put up new ones. It would have cost them a few hundred bucks per location they deemed unavailable. They also trimmed the staff, targeted managers for outrageous goals, and increased prices simotaniously. The app is a large part of the issue, personally I attempted to order pizza hut many times but the app had so many bugs it would literally prevent me from placing an order over the course of several years trying. Eventually I found out a way to get a phone call direct to my local pizza hit in the small town I lived in at the time, but even when I finally achieved getting pizza hut pizza it was terrible, poorly made, made wrong, and 2-3 times the price of dominoes, whom has better locations, no issues ordering and better pizza. I always make the joke "It is harder to get a pizza hut pizza than to buy illegal drugs" And as long as we have mcdonalds to thank for a one stop drug shop on every corner, that stands very true.
it declined bc the staff stopped showing up at 5-7am to prep the food to be ready by 11a we made everything from scratch and cut up alll the toppings the dough was mixed and prepped the night before then refrigerated not processed food low quality and frozen
Pizza Hut was so awesome in the 80s and 90s!! I miss their cavatini pasta the most. But my husband and I no longer eat Pizza Hut. They changed their tomato pizza sauce formula in the early 2000s and it gives my husband upset stomach and digestive distress within a couple of hours
I remember Pizza Hut was the tuxedo of pizza restaurants in the early 1980's. Today their pizza bread tastes like greasy cardboard and saltier than the Dead Sea.
I just ordered a pizza with ex cheese from Dominoes yesterday, and I could definitely see and taste the extra cheese. It's really sad how stingy Pizza Hut is with their toppings.

I know the last few pizza's I ordered from Pizza Hut tasted more like frozen pizza warmed up and shipped out to me. Very poor quality, almost no sauce and boring. Hell I found a new place to get my pizza on, called Twisted Tomato
As a Former Division Coordinator i never ate this pizza with my company discount. Maybe a small slice at a company lunch. Poor quality products and Human Resources drove this company into the ground at NPC International.
As someone who worked at pizza hut and dominos in question of freshness and flavor Domino's is the best. Trust me once you see the prep of how pizza hut handles its dough trust me you wouldnt eat the pizza. The only thing pizza hut has going for it is its wings.
None of my family will touch domino's again. We've had it 3 times and all 3 times the pizza was undercooked and it made us all sick. The sauce is rancid and the sausage is flavorless. But we've always had good experiences from pizza hut. I normally make pizza from scratch but when I want pizza in a hurry I get pizza hut

Very seldom to I wait for a pizza to be delivered. Its too easy for us just to call, order, and pick it up ourselves. We are back within 5 minutes, so its still warm. But, they (Pizza Hut) have closed 3 carry out locations close to out home, so they are now too far from us. We had switched to Papa Murphy's, and were baking them at home, but they two have closed both locations close by. I don't eat as much pizza now.
Contrary to this video, I stopped eating Pizza Hut when their dining rooms disappeared. I want a dine-in experience, table service, and free drink refills. I tip well.👍✔🏁
Our local pizza hut went down hill when it was sold to a new owner that moved it to take out only and closed the dining hall. Then it stopped participating with national promotions and no longer taking coupons. I still prefer pizza hut over the other national brands. I would rather have a 3 day old pizza hut pizza over a fresh pizza from domino's

Pizza hut is expensive. The "deals" aren't worth it. I hope they go out of business. I am not going to pay $15 for a cheese pizza. I buy good quality pizzas for much less from the store and I will put it in my oven
Alot of these reasons had nothing to do with it and if people wanna know the reason pizza hut went downhill its cause their prices just kept skyrocketing, why would people pay 30+$ for a pizza and some bread sticks when you can get so much more at little cs or dominos
I can name at least 3 independent pizza places and 1 Dominos that are closer to my house then the nearest Pizza Hut and all of them bulldoze right over it.
Unfortunately.. Pizza Hut now prefer to make profit before pizza. And also the people who now make their pizzas cannot make pizza for shit. Good riddens to the unhygienic eat in's and their greasy grubby menu cards that had more food on them, than the pizza pans. Want to have a great pizza? Make your own!
This is total BS. The biggest problem w Pizza Hut is that it's pizzas are worse - quality decline. Inferior cheese, less cheese, inferior sauce, not usjng fresb vegetables, barely any sauce on the pizas, pepoeroni that tastes like salt. And yes the had an identity - the Hut. You go to Pizza Hut to get superior pizzas. Yum brands sucks - and Pizza Hut went down for the samd reason KFC went down; lower quality food
The Detroit Pizza was ythe ast time I went and it wasn't good. Dominoes really turned there around..drastic improvement. I might go back to the hut for wings...
I used to love Pizza hut, not sure how it's in the USA but here in the Dominican Republic they went downhill the slices are super small and just a greasy mess (I know pizza isn't exactly healthy but I don't wanna eat grease with pizza, just the pizza lol) the bread sticks were the best back in the day as well
Went for the wings today. Still awesome...crunchy and moist at the same time. The Pizza is so expensive compared to Domino's. Nowdays...Little Ceasars is cheap but mediocre but Domino's has turned it around.

Pizza hit did have something like McDonald's has the arch's pizza hut HAD the red roof they traded that in when they decided to move in strip malls. So in my opinion they traded there look in to save money. I should also say my brother worked for 3 different pizza places and made good damn money dropping off pizzas and wings

Nobody talks about the fact that their crust and sauce has changed for the worst. I would argue that was definitely a major reason for their decline.

I know what happened. Changing the recipes for the sauce (now it's kind of sweet) and the crust (not as buttery and crispy on the outside).
I love pizza hut , they should bring back dine in and give it that 80-90's vibe again
Underpaid or not, pizza hut is the only pizza chain I know of where I had to wait 1-2 hours just to get my food delivered

There’s only one double oven in each restaurant, so when it’s busy, the back up is unreal.

Once Yum Brands bought Pizza Hut, their food went downhill. Making pizza with cheaper ingredients has made me go elsewhere for pizza.

Sorry, PIZZA HUT is BACK!!! We are getting 10-15 new locations. Some are already open. They are BIG in Canada and slowly coming back.

Pizza hut is expensive. The "deals" aren't worth it. I hope they go out of business. I am not going to pay $15 for a cheese pizza. I buy good quality pizzas for much less from the store and I will put it in my oven
The only good pizza comes from small independent businesses. Find one in your town and you'll never order from a chain store again.

Alot of these reasons had nothing to do with it and if people wanna know the reason pizza hut went downhill its cause their prices just kept skyrocketing, why would people pay 30+$ for a pizza and some bread sticks when you can get so much more at little cs or dominos

Pizza Hut is $hit on a shingle. They need to go back to the 70's and early 80's.

I can name at least 3 independent pizza places and 1 Dominos that are closer to my house then the nearest Pizza Hut and all of them bulldoze right over it.

Pizza hut was *INCREDIBLE* early 90s- late 90s .... it got bad around 2002.
Sadly, I never see them advertised anywhere anymore. It's like they vanished. 🤔
For me they show up on RUclips but they keep using the same guy to promote their brand that it's starting to get annoying

This is total BS. The biggest problem w Pizza Hut is that it's pizzas are worse - quality decline. Inferior cheese, less cheese, inferior sauce, not usjng fresb vegetables, barely any sauce on the pizas, pepoeroni that tastes like salt. And yes the had an identity - the Hut. You go to Pizza Hut to get superior pizzas. Yum brands sucks - and Pizza Hut went down for the samd reason KFC went down; lower quality food
Pizza Hut lacks in flavor especially in the dough their pizza dough is not made fresh anymore it comes in frozen plus the change the sauce 😢

The Detroit Pizza was ythe ast time I went and it wasn't good. Dominoes really turned there around..drastic improvement. I might go back to the hut for wings...

They're still dine in Pizza Hut restaurants in Colorado especially Denver it's not a thing of the past quite yet.
I used to love Pizza hut, not sure how it's in the USA but here in the Dominican Republic they went downhill the slices are super small and just a greasy mess (I know pizza isn't exactly healthy but I don't wanna eat grease with pizza, just the pizza lol) the bread sticks were the best back in the day as well

Went for the wings today. Still awesome...crunchy and moist at the same time. The Pizza is so expensive compared to Domino's. Nowdays...Little Ceasars is cheap but mediocre but Domino's has turned it around.

I guess Pizza hut got out pizzaed which is sad cause when I was young me and my family used to go to Pizza hut. And one of the pizza hut's I ate at when I was young closed and is now built to be a KFC.

Pizza hit did have something like McDonald's has the arch's pizza hut HAD the red roof they traded that in when they decided to move in strip malls.
